(rock music)
- Okay, the name, No Huddle Life.
It's just perfect for me. (chuckles)
But I find that too many people,
when I say, oh yeah, I got this YouTube thing,
it's called No Huddle Life, and they go, oh.
So I get it.
If you're not an American football aficionado,
you can definitely miss the meaning behind it.
This episode is all about trying
to start making it easier on people so they know
what the hell I was talking about in the first place.
Sometimes it takes a wake-up call to remind you
that it's time to live, so I'm making up for lost time,
throwing myself headfirst into a bucket list
of outdoor adventures.
And with the help of our guest experts,
hopefully providing you with some inspiration
to go for it yourself.
I'm Bill Rooney, this is the No Huddle Life.
(funky music)
Oh, by the way, we're...
We're in Florida.
This is where the idea for the show started.
I'm here with my friend, Steven, who's been so helpful
to me in getting this going.
Okay, what is No Huddle?
Literally it came from American football, I think sometime,
maybe it's been around since the '60s, even,
but there was this style,
more particularly in the fourth quarter of the game,
when you're trying to either catch up on being behind
or some people just did it,
and it's called the no-huddle offense.
It just means get out and go for it, kick butt,
kick some ass, throw caution to the wind.
But that's the deal.
You'll see many teams use this,
and they actually don't huddle.
Huddle means they go back in that circle
and they plan.
They plan the plays and they have time to talk,
well, I don't think they talk about it,
but they give signals and this and that.
But in the no-huddle,
in the no-huddle offense,
they've already got that plan, and they just go for it
and can be very, very effective in winning the game.
So that's the literal definition of no-huddle.
Okay, now, I had spent decades
working my ass off,
flat out forgetting that I had this body here
and not treating it as well as I should, probably,
well, certainly.
And so the no-huddle thing was like,
what if I start a YouTube channel?
Completely random, crazy idea for me.
I got no experience on this side of the camera.
Quite a bit on the other, but no experience this way.
What if I did that?
I have this huge bucket list of things I wanna do,
and they're almost all outdoor adventure.
Okay, I read this book called Younger Next Year.
It's by Chris Crowley.
Highly recommended.
His whole philosophy, or it's not philosophy,
there's some science behind it,
that you can actually be functionally younger
if you really vigorously exercise.
His thing is six days a week.
And one of the things he says to do is to challenge yourself
and throw yourself into situations
where you've got to really, really pick up your game.
Like if you've never skied, book a week
and take some lessons and learn how to do it.
You go out and do these things,
kayak, mountain climb, wall climb, white water rapids.
But I had this list of things
that I just would never, ever have gotten done
in my life if I hadn't went,
hmm, but what if it's my job?
So the thing between that is like,
it has the personal thing of like, super fun,
which, that's one thing I've learned in my life,
usually working for others that were doing
exactly what they should be doing,
is work is fun.
And you can do it pretty much endlessly if it's not work.
It's just fun, it's play.
So that was my whole concept here,
was to create this show, No Huddle Life,
to get out and just really go for it.
Live life to its fullest.
Be challenged, try new things.
Use that body, get active.
And try to inspire 'em,
but also, it wasn't really enough
just for me to go do this stuff.
I also wanted to help provide some know-how,
which most of these things I can't really,
other than hiking I'm pretty good at,
but most all the other things I'm brand-new at,
and usually I stumble a lot when I first start these things,
but partially that's to show
that if I can do it, anybody can do it.
But anyway, I almost always have a guest expert.
Some are big league, they're champions,
and it's amazing how many people wanna help.
Guys get in ruts, they sit on the couch,
they need some inspiration.
It resonates with everybody, and it really, ultimately,
is for health and also wellbeing
to do this stuff.
All of that, in addition to the lifestyle,
I just think the whole thing
about how we used to live our life is gonna change,
and my generation, at least the people
that will be part of our community and our group,
they don't wanna think like they did before.
No one wants to identify as aging, right?
Age, that's a state of mind.
So that's what this group is all about.
It's adventure.
It's not just exercise.
It's pushing yourself, reinventing yourself, basically,
at this age, whatever that is for you, too.
And I'm gonna break all the YouTube rules right now.
You're supposed to only tell people to do one thing.
I'm gonna break that right now,
'cause not only do I want comments,
if you haven't, please subscribe.
This little video is really meant for the community,
and that's my friends and family
and all the early subscribers.
And if you're just watching and haven't subscribed,
please subscribe.
A, you get notified, B, it helps us out.
We're growing this group,
and as your numbers get bigger,
you get more clout with YouTube,
and you could be a big help on that.
I appreciate you subscribing,
and not only am I gonna ask you two things,
I'm gonna ask you three things,
and that is please share the channel.
If you like the show and you get what we're about
and you support it, I sure hope you do,
please share it with somebody that might also like that.
I guess I've got this little catchphrase,
that's another YouTube thing, but I like this one,
which is, okay, on to the next adventure.
