Today the Search Engine Google is showing a Doodle for Charles Michèle de l'Epée.

Google is celebrating philanthropic educator Charles-Michel de l'Épée's 306th Birthday

in a few countries with a doodle.

The Abbé Charles-Michel de l'Épée was born on 24th November 1712.

He was a philanthropic educator of 18th-century France who has become known as the "Father

of the Deaf".

He was born to a wealthy family in Versailles, the seat of political power in what was then

the most powerful kingdom of Europe.

He studied to be a Catholic priest but was denied ordination as a result of his refusal

to denounce Jansenism, a popular French heresy of the time.

He then studied law but, soon after joining the Bar, was finally ordained—only to be

denied a license to officiate.

Épée then turned his attention toward charitable services for the poor, and, on one foray into

the slums of Paris, he had a chance encounter with two young deaf sisters who communicated

using a sign language.

Épée decided to dedicate himself to the education and salvation of the deaf, and,

in 1760, he founded a school.

In line with emerging philosophical thought of the time, Épée came to believe that deaf

people were capable of language and concluded that they should be able to receive the sacraments

and thus avoid going to hell.

He began to develop a system of instruction of the French language and religion.

In the early 1760s, his shelter became the world's first free school for the deaf, open

to the public.

Though Épée's original interest was in religious education, his public advocacy and development

of a kind of "Signed French" enabled deaf people to legally defend themselves in court

for the first time.

Épée died at the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789, and his tomb is in the

Church of Saint Roch in Paris.

Two years after his death, the National Assembly recognized him as a "Benefactor of Humanity"

and declared that deaf people had rights according to the Declaration of the Rights of Man and

of the Citizen.

In 1791, the Institution Nationale des Sourds-Muets à Paris, which Épée had founded, began

to receive government funding.

It was later renamed the Institut St. Jacques and then renamed again to its present name:

Institut National de Jeunes Sourds de Paris.

His methods of education have spread around the world, and the Abbé de l'Épée is seen

today as one of the founding fathers of deaf education.

After Épée's death, he was succeeded by the Abbé Roch-Ambroise Cucurron Sicard, who

became the new head of the school.

Dark Night of the Soul – Answering the Question, "What is the Point of Living?" - Duration: 11:06.

At some point, most of us go through a phenomenon known as the Dark Night of the Soul.

Although we try to run from it, it is still there.

Although we try to cover it up and smother it, it is still there.

Although we try to put on a happy smiley face and pretend it away, it is still there.

While some of us seek repose in religious thought, others of us seek respite in spiritual

philosophy, and still a small portion of us seek reprieve with professional psychologists.

But the Dark Night of the Soul is not the same as depression, which is usually characterized

by 'chemical imbalances', destructive mental patterns and/or excessive self-concern,

and comes as a result of loss, mental illness, physical illness, abuse, genetics, and so

on.

Although depression shares many of its characteristics with the experience of having a Dark Night

of the Soul, it can often be treated and sometimes cured with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT),

mindfulness practices, lifestyle changes, medications, and so forth.

But having a Dark Night of the Soul is a much different experience because it is primarily

a spiritual and existential form of crises that can't be treated with therapy or psychiatry.

Therefore, those of us going through the Dark Night often feel an increasing sense of hopelessness,

unease and despair as we discover that no one can save us but ourselves.

Inevitably, this makes us feel even more alone, frustrated and confused about the world and

about ourselves.

I am intensely aware of what it is like to experience complete psychological and spiritual

desolation and although the feeling seems endless, there is a light at the end of the

tunnel if you just know where to look.

In this article, we will explore one of the major questions that eternally haunts us during

the Dark Night of the Soul: "What is the point of living?"

What is the Dark Night of the Soul?

The concept of having a Dark Night of the Soul has existed for a long time, and spans

back to the 16th century when poet and Catholic mystic Saint John of the Cross wrote a poem

entitled, "La noche oscura del alma" (The Dark Night of the Soul).

Said Saint John:

If a man wishes to be sure of the road he's traveling on, then he must close his eyes

and travel in the dark.

Traditionally, the Dark Night of the Soul refers to the experience of losing touch with

God/Creator, and being plunged into the abyss of godless emptiness.

The modern understanding of having a Dark Night of the Soul however, is not exclusively

a religious one, but can often mean losing all meaning in life, feeling out-of-touch

with the Divine, feeling betrayed or forsaken by Life and having no solid or stable ground

to stand on.

Some of the heaviest questions we ask during this period include for example, "Why am

I alive at all?"

"Why do good people suffer?"

"What is truth?"

"Is there a god or afterlife?" and "What is the point of living?"

This last question we will now explore.

What is the Point of Living?

Such a question weighs down on us like led, oppressing us constantly when we experience

the Dark Night of the Soul.

Each day we might obsessively search for an answer, but find to our greatest dismay that

the answers to such a question are as expansive as the waves on the ocean.

Some people tell us, "the point is to serve God," others tell us, "the point is to

make a difference," and others tell us, "there is no point: you make your own meaning."

These are only three of hundreds, even thousands of possible answers.

What the hell are we supposed to do?

Who is right, who is wrong … if there really is any "right" or "wrong" answer?

We walk down one path and immediately become dissatisfied, disillusioned and repelled by

what we discover.

Then we walk down another path and history repeats itself again and again until we realize

with horror, "Every path of meaning is meaningless to me," and we collapse in grief and despair,

winding up at square one again.

Such a cycle repeats itself over and over again during the Dark Night of the Soul, so

much so that it can become like torment.

I know because I have experienced it.

The strange thing is that although we get to a point of complete desolation, we still

hold a glimmer of hope that pursuing the same path over and over and over again will somehow

bring us a deeply satisfying meaning one day.

We seem to think that the mind is the solution to our problems; that utilizing the mind will

release us from the original prison created by the mind that feels the need to quantify,

measure and define everything.

What most of us fail to do, however, is to question the actual questions we are asking

and pursuing the answers to.

Instead of, What is the point of living? … have you ever tried asking: Why must there be a

point to living?

We will elaborate on this below.

Happiness Isn't This or That, Happiness IS

Earlier today I opened my email and received a poignant message from one of our long-time

readers asking:

I don't understand.

Why am I alive?

Why do I experience life?

I don't know why I am here now.

I don't see the point of living my life.

I don't want anything, not material /physical achievements, not relationships, not entertainment,

nothing.

I don't know what to do with this body, mind, and feelings.

Or maybe I just experience this life too intensely until I am numbed.

But why?

My answer is that although you might feel cursed, you are actually blessed.

It sounds absurd, even insulting, but this is the truth.

Before any true growth or healing can occur, there must be a process of destruction and

complete annihilation of everything you thought would bring you happiness.

Most people experiencing Dark Nights realize this: that nothing makes them happy anymore;

not bodily, not sexual, not emotional, not material, not political, not social, not even

spiritual.

And this is the start of the purification process.

Since birth you have been conditioned to believe that money will make you happy, a sexy/rich

partner will make you happy, a high IQ will make you happy, a big house will make you

happy, a thriving career will make you happy, a perfect life will make you happy.

But this is all a lie, because whenever you pursue happiness, you are immediately losing

touch with the fact that happiness is already here, right now, in this very second, without

you having to do anything or question anything.

Happiness IS.

This sounds like the most ridiculous thing you might have ever heard, and yet deep down

you might sense the truth in it.

If this is the case the first layer of your illusions has been peeled away; what a blessing!

In reality, it is absolutely terrifying to have the ground beneath your feet ripped out

from beneath you, and this is precisely what we experience during the Dark Night of the

Soul.

And yet, this experience is the greatest teacher of all to us because it illuminates what is

fragile, transient, and subject to change, growth and decay.

We are subsequently left with a feeling of great inner emptiness, but within this emptiness

we eventually come to see what can never come, go, change or die, and that is the truth of

who we are: pure, peaceful and blissful conscious essence.

The mind is a product of our evolutionary development: it protects us and structures

our existence, and through it we can experience the beauty of life, but in order to truly

come to any closure during our Dark Nights we must understand that the mind is limited,

narrow and finite – and therefore so is our reasoning.

Why must there be a "point" to living other than the experience of being alive in

all of its fascinating and shocking diversity?

Why must we "pursue" or "find" something rather than simply experiencing each moment

fully and completely in the simplicity of Being?

That is why I say that happiness isn't this or that, happiness IS.

And what exactly are we seeking when we want to answer the question, "What is the point

of living"?

We want a satisfactory answer that will appeal to the mind to GIVE us happiness.

But happiness can't be given because happiness IS.

This might all sound like fancy rhetoric, but I recommend that you let it sink in and

really look into it more.

Ask yourself: Why must there be a point to living?

Why can't I just be here, as I am, already whole and complete, now?

The higher he ascends,

The darker is the wood;

It is the shadowy cloud

That clarified the night,

And so the one who understood

Remains at last unknowing,

All reason now transcended.

This knowledge by unknowing

Is such a soaring force

That scholars argue long

But never leave the ground.

Their reason always fails the source:

To understand unknowing,

All reason now transcended.

Ibrahimovic names the Arsenal great who was key to Man United move - Duration: 5:44.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed that Arsenal great Patrick Vieira played a key role in his move to Manchester United in 2016

Making a big impression during his time in Holland, Italy, Spain and France, many had called for the Swede to seal a move to England to prove that he could do it against the Premier League's best

Finally arriving in the top flight in 2016 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, the 37-year-old proved to be a huge hit during his time at Old Trafford

Scoring a total of 29 goals in 53 games for the Red Devils, Ibrahimovic helped Jose Mourinho's side win the Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League during his first season in England

Speaking to the BBC about his career, the LA Galaxy striker claimed that the Frenchman was key to his move to England having first come across him at the Amsterdam Tournament during Vieira's time with the Gunners

"When I met Patrick for the first time it was in Juventus I knew who he was," the Swede told BBC's Football Daily (via the Mirror )

"I remember we played against Arsenal when I was in Ajax.  "There was this Amsterdam Arena tournament and I remember when we were sitting on the bench, the whole Ajax team, Patrick Vieira was the only player from Arsenal to give their hand to every player when he went past them

"The other ones pass, hello, hello, nothing. But he gave his hand to every player and already I said to myself 'wow, this is something else

This is different.'  "Then I played against him and as a player everybody knows him

"He is the hard guy. He is box-to-box, quality, good mentality and when he came to Juventus he had big influence in my game

To train every day good.  "The way you train is the way you play and he was on me every time

"When you yell at somebody, put pressure on somebody normally the pressure doesn't come back because of different personalities, different characters

"But from him it came back twice and I was not used to that so he was on me all the time

"When I thought I did good he said I did bad. And he was always on me and he triggered my mentality by not being satisfied

"You have to do much more because it is not enough. And he knows what he is talking about

"He won the trophies he won and played with fantastic world class players.  "And so my moment when I should have gone to England, I was talking to different players that I know well, trust and will give me an honest opinion

"And from all of them, everybody said, 'don't do it. It's not good for your career because you put one year - because the [United] contract was one year plus another - and you put your whole career [at risk] because of one season

"If you don't do a good season people will say the rest of what you did before is useless because you didn't make it in England

Especially from the England side.  "They will say 'yes you did it there but you didn't do it here

'  "But that triggered me because that is the challenge I want.  "So I went against everybody that said to me know and said this is exactly what I want to do

"I come to their garden and I will show myself in their garden. I was 35 when everybody thought that I am too old but I came and made the Premier League look old

"That is the nice thing. It took me three months to convince everybody who I was

"That is the challenge I like and I never turned down a challenge."  "The only thing I have to say is the Premier League should be happy I didn't come ten years before I did because it would be a different story

You can read the book with all my numbers.  "Those numbers would have been in the Premier League

No difference. Wherever I went I brought those numbers.  "And I came to the right club in England

United was the club, the shirt I was supposed to shine in and I did it." Keep up to date with the latest news, features and exclusives from football

Days Before Murder, Chris Watts' Wife Was Worried: 'What If He Really Doesn't Love Me Anymore?' - 24 - Duration: 5:52.

Less than a week before her husband of nearly six years strangled her in their home in the pre-dawn darkness, 34-year-old Shan'ann Watts reportedly shared her growing concerns about her spouse with a friend

"He has changed. I don't know who he is," she texted early on Aug. 7 of husband Chris Watts, according to a bevvy of investigative documents released in the case and obtained by local media outlets

Get push notifications with news, features and more. Follow Following You'll get the latest updates on this topic in your browser notifications

The documents include police reports, interview transcripts and other materials related to the investigation of the Watts family murders at Chris' hand, which left Shan'ann, then 15 weeks pregnant, and their daughters dead

The documents, as described by TV stations KCNC, KDVR and KUSA, vividly underline the basic narrative already laid out by authorities: Chris, 33, had grown distant from his family and infatuated with a "new love" until, at last, he could not keep them all in his life — and chose his lover

"He hasn't touched me all week, kissed me, talked to me except for when I'm trying to figure out what is wrong," Shan'ann explained in a text, according to KDVR, adding, "We've never had a problem in our relationship like this

No joke. NEVER. THIS IS TOTAL LEFT FIELD."  "I just want to cry," she wrote.  Her friend tried to soothe her, to no avail

Shan'ann's worries about her marriage had eaten up her confidence in Chris and their bond together

"What if he really doesn't love me anymore?!" she texted at one point, noting later on Aug

7 that "he said we are not compatible anymore! He refused to hug me after he said he will try to 'work' it out! Said he thought another baby would fix his feelings

Said, he refused couples counseling."  Chris, his wife wrote to her friend, "said he's not sitting on no damn couch saying what he just said to me to no stranger

"  Shan'ann was expecting a son to be named Nico. "This baby in my belly deserves his full love," she texted her friend, who had advised her to go through Chris' phone for signs of infidelity

"Only thing I can think of even though I don't think he has it in him is another girl," Shan'ann wrote

Weeks earlier, while she was in North Carolina visiting her family with daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, she wrote to Chris: "l realized during this trip what's missing in our relationship! lt's only one way emotions and feelings

I can't come back like this. I need you to meet me halfway. You don't consider others at all, nor think about others feelings"  But Chris was already involved in an affair: He had become intimate with an unwitting co-worker who believed he was getting a divorce from his wife

Prosecutors have said it was this selfish desire for a "fresh start" that motivated what happened early on Aug

13, after Shan'ann returned from a weekend work trip in Scottsdale, Arizona.  The full picture of that morning altercation may never be known but, according to prosecutors, Chris told them that he and Shan'ann had an "emotional conversation

" Soon thereafter he strangled her with his bare hands. He smothered Bella and Celeste and hid all three bodies at an oil work site

Shan'ann's disappearance almost immediately raised the suspicions of her friends, who involved the police shortly after lunch on Aug

13. Within days, Chris was behind bars.  Though he pleaded guilty earlier this month in an agreement to avoid the death penalty, instead receiving a life sentence, he has never come clean about his crimes — and he may never

"[Shan'ann's family] were of the opinion that he would never be able to give us a full version — just because of who he is — he would never tell us the truth," Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke previously told PEOPLE

Rourke told reporters after Chris' sentencing: "I don't think that there is ever going to be a satisfactory answer for anyone

Embodied Health - #1 What is the true meaning of health ? - Duration: 11:01.

Welcome everybody. I'm Mason Taylor

It's such an honor and a privilege for me to be here with you undergoing this this experience that I've created here for you now

What are we gonna actually be getting up to here now? I've laid out the structure of this course to

Really give you the ability to lay down

the

Fundamentals of health in your life so that we can really get out of this

This I guess we're on like this donkey chase in the carrot kind of business the lion in life and in health

It's been going on for a long time. You know, we've been on this very

Intellectual external pursuit to discover. What health is now

There's a lot of conditioning there from our upbringing

from just from a bunch of things from the culture that we live in and I've designed this course so primarily

What we are going to do is we're going to be going in and making key

distinctions in health

insights bringing awarenesses from within you up to the surface so you can get some context for

Approaching this health journey from a place that's going to be unique to you

Effective for you know more of this like here just take this system

Just take this dogmatic diet and just trust me you're gonna get the results

I'm not about that and I think if you're here listening to this and watching this, you're not about that either

So first of all, we've got to start asking

What is this ambiguous health thing that I'm talking about that everyone's talking about?

You know quite often we we ask this question and we are don't know like it's like having energy and having vitality

I don't know like, you know having hormonal hormonal stuff not not like fluctuating throughout us, you know, sending our emotions flipping

Everyone's got a different answer is what I'm trying to say. I

want to bring forward just through my

observations in you know, I've been walking this health path for a while now and

What I observe is

You know after milk my years like getting into the infinitive the martial art world

Taoist practices through the yogic world as well

I start to see these similarities of the way that these healthy cultures and these cultures who had health practices

ensconced into their daily life and lifestyle

There were some similarities there now

We glorify that in our culture a little bit, you know

A lot of people say we're gonna go back to the way it was back to you know

Like some people I go back to the Paleolithic era

You know back to the way it was when the Taoist were living in the hills. I'm not about going back

I'm about us going forward together possibly drawing on some wisdom from our ancestors. So

The key distinction I'll use the Taoist as a as an example here when they were approaching health

They were in a pure say prevention model

They didn't have this their bodily systems their cellular matrix their hormones

the nervous system out of whack all the time and therefore they didn't have this excessive amount of

Degenerative disease, so it was really not that prevalent at the time

You know, we've where and we live in a culture where we're starting to accept that degenerative diseases cancer

Arthritis stroke heart disease. These are just norms and that's what's gonna be taking us out

It wasn't it wasn't so back then and and for the human for us humans

We we know we kind of know that that's not a normal

way to approach life and especially

Approach aging and then if it brings about this this fear of getting old because we know we're going to come down and start

degenerating and the some of the you know, the joy and the

the vitality and that lust for life might diminish at some point with that so

because these

Daoists had a culture that allowed them to maintain

balance

constantly and consistently

With the way that they approach their health system. I

Bring this into relevance in my life. You know, I grew up doing martial arts with my father Japanese jiu-jitsu

And there was one move in the whole in LA in the dojo is constantly one move is called tai sabaki

And the philosophy in essence of tai sabaki

Was if some pressure or stress gets pushed upon you then you take as little or as many steps as you need

to come back into a place of safety and

balance and

so the way that you would move across the floor and then that would come out into the way that you lived your life and

The way that I live my life is that I will take steps to get into the place of safety and balance

Consistently adapting to my environment to any stresses and it was only then when you find that safety and that balance then do you?

strike out

Only then do you strike out that striking out can be seen as our ability to be creative

Go on an adventure in life

Actually get out there and experience the joys of this world in this unique life that we are each living

from that place of safety and balance

Now a lot of people in our culture and I've been there as well back in the days

My adrenals were absolutely shocked. I had fungus growing out of my arms, and I was just exhausted

I wasn't imbalanced and I did not feel safe in my body did not feel safe. My immune system was not at a point

Where I felt like yeah

You know what?

I can really I can feel that I'm gonna be able to handle any pathogenic onslaught that comes at me

You know now it's different

I'll be talking to you about

immunity and this kind of the practices that can you can

Bring into your life in your own personal culture to have you feel that safety consistently

But when we talk about health in the world West generally this is what people are talking about

they're talking about coming back to a state of feeling safe and

Feeling balanced within their own body and within their own life

now we've kind of normalized this state when we're out of balance and out of safety and then all of a sudden some big

symptom comes up or a disease comes up, you know and

We're like, okay great. That can be a good wake-up call. But generally the way we approach is like IRA

Let's do some practices just slap the bandaid on so that that symptom goes away and then our culture

unfolds like that, and we get the

We're we're not engaged with our health and our lives on a daily basis on a consistent basis

So the roots of those health practices and distinctions and inspirations, they're not in

Bedded into our culture the skills and those insights and that knowing wisdom and that bodily perception

It isn't ensconced into our education system or into the way that generally a lot of us

Have been raised and so we haven't had that opportunity a lot of the time and so I want to stay here

Yes, we are going to be bringing in practices for like the many of you here, you know, possibly, you know

Like there's there's been a health crisis or something to arise up and bang you're up. You know light bulb goes off

I need to do some shit here and actually get myself back on path

Now this of course is going to be designed to bring you back into that place of safety

Bring you back into that place of balance making distinctions there. But however the way that I see health. It isn't just about that

I mean, we're kind of getting back to the that's the foundation so that we can then go out and explore and

potentiate evolve our body and really get on this adventure for life because it

Help doesn't just stop at that point where we're just like don't have a disease or don't have the symptoms anymore

It goes beyond that like the Daoists, you know when they were when they weren't having degenerative diseases and you know

They weren't sick and they weren't tired how they were out in the mountains

exploring looking for herbes

Exploring their inner energetics they were in that you know in that well, I was talking about with the jujitsu, you know

You get safe balance, then you strike out now. We're in that place of striking out exploring being creative consistently and constantly

Because they had that balance in that safety

Now we're going to absolutely get back to that place of laying that foundation

And then everything that we're going to be talking about through nourishing ourselves through the elements

You know through the immunological practices they are then going to flow into that place where?

Beyond just coming back into balance

We're going to be able to use them to really express ourselves, you know

Really evolve ourselves and just see kind of how good it can get

Really? That's kind of what it's all about

get the thing how good it can get seeing how able able and

Capable the foundation of our health can become so that then you know, I like alright. Hang on a second

I've I've like I've innately got this hormonal balance in this energy

I know how to relax my nervous system the vitality. Is there pulsing through me and

This is this is the essence of it

Feeling your body

Feeling that you're safe in your body not needing to rely on

not like an institution coming and telling you what it's like for you to how you're gonna have to heal or

How you're going to have to live because you've got the perception and the knowing of it and that's that's what this course is about

We're gonna return to that place. You know, what is health?

Okay

Let's kind of like return to that place and then health goes beyond that your unique journey your unique body

expressing itself

That's what health is to me

So in these next videos that are coming up

This is the context we're going to be coming up and we're going to be coming from I

Really want you to take some time now to sit down with that distinction

You know feel into and do I feel safe and balanced in my body and just start speculating. We write this down

Where do I do? I not feel safe. Okay, what comes up write that down?

Where do I feel out of balance and that could this can be in your emotions your mental state your physical state and your life?

Your relationships take some time

I take at least 20 minutes and you're we're gonna have some notes there, you know

Just to just to ground this in but take that on and this is going this distinction this inner wisdom

This is going to be really take the the glass ceiling off. What we perceive is possible when it comes to our health
