What Is The Best Martial Art for Self Defense? • Martial Arts Journey - Duration: 11:04.

What is the best Self Defense Martial Art

Many people start martial arts wanting to learn self defense.

As one starts a practice, there may be some scepticism in a new practitioner weather the

taught techniques actually work for self defense, yet various martial arts have developed elaborate

justifications to convince a practitioner that their practice is effective, such as:

"You need to train this martial art for many years to make it work for self defense",

or "When the time comes, your skills will naturally come into action".

Unfortunately these justifications are mainly based on false beliefs passed on from generation

to generation.

Having all these myths and lies in martial arts, it is difficult not only for a beginner

to realize what techniques and training methods actually help a person learn applicable self

defense, but we also often times see people investing decades and hundreds of hours training

in a certain practice, learning elaborate, complex techniques and traditions, only eventually

to learn that they never actually learned real self defense.

Hi, my name is Rokas, and for these reasons in this Martial Arts Journey video, we will

be taking a look at what really makes a martial art effective for self defense.

When we think about self defense, most people first think of self defense techniques.

Often times in their imagination they resemble some stylized kung fu movements, which were

once seen in an action movie.

These complex movements can be learned by training the same elaborate technique for

hundreds of times with full attention and focus.

Yet in reality, when a person is faced with potential violence, our brain goes into the

fight-or-flight response, which in turn releases a surge of adrenaline.

It is important to understand, that when we have a high level of adrenaline in our system,

our mind and body do not function as usual.

While adrenaline brings more energy to our muscles to raise the capacity of our ability

to defend ourselves physically, some other effects of include: tunnel vision, when you

only see what is in front of you and not what is around you.

A sensation of your mind wandering or floating, making it hard to concentrate.

Decreased coordination and difficulty to think clearly.

All these factors have a dramatic, negative effect on our ability to perform complex motor

skills, on which many martial arts techniques are based on.

While we may be able to perform them with ease in our training environment - when faced

with actual danger, there is a great possibility that all of our complex movements which we

learned will not come up in the moment of an adrenaline surge and our body will not

respond as we had planned in our training, making us incapable to defend, especially

by using the techniques we invested in.

That is not to say that complex motor skills will not work at all in a real self defense

situation, but if your chosen martial art relies heavily on them, that may be one of

the first signs of caution when questioning your martial arts effectiveness for self defense.

Some complex motor skills may work though, yet whether they will depends not only on

the techniques themselves, but also on the training method.

Many martial arts offer a safe training environment.

And of course, it would make no sense to intentionally hurt each other and come out injured all the

time.

Yet by wanting to make the practitioner feel good about himself, the training and also

to give an impression that the presented martial art works, many schools and styles are base

themselves on a cooperative training method, where both practitioners know exactly what

the other practitioner will do, and help each other along the way to play out the choreographed

scenario.

In other words there is a very specific attack that the person who plays the role of the

attacker will perform, while the defender, knowing exactly how he will be attacked, has

to perform the technique designed against this particular movement.

As the attacker starts the attack, he usually also knows what movement the defender will

do, and he also knows how to exactly responds to this movement, offering no resistance whatsoever

and either by falling down from a throw or allowing the defender to land a punch (which

is normally not actually landed, but stopped from a fair distance).

This cooperative play, while may look effective at first, has many important issues.

First of all, an actual attacker will not be concerned to play a cooperative role and

will often times responds very differently than a friendly, choreographed attacker will

during training.

In reality, live resistance will be offered, which will dramatically change how the techniques

will be applied.

An actual attacker will not stop after a single attack, he will not wait for a technique to

be applied and most importantly, he will not want the technique to be done onto him.

For a person who has never experienced a live resisting opponent, the difference will be

so drastic, that almost all of the techniques learned with a cooperative partner will be

rendered useless.

Even punching and hitting is different when you really apply a punch, rather than stop

it in front of the person and if punching is trained without any contact whatsoever,

this difference may cause another noticeable gap when the time comes to actually apply

it.

As Tony Blauer from SPEAR self defense system says: "If you are not hitting the target

when you strike, you are not practicing striking, you are practicing missing".

It is of utmost importance to train with a live, resisting opponent during training to

get used to this type of pressure and to learn to apply our techniques under more realistic

conditions, with a person who is not willing for us to do our technique on him and with

real contact to actually know not only how striking feels, but how it feels to get punched

as well.

If we haven't experienced the latter, if we experience our first strike only in a real

situation, the experience of the strike may cause so much unfamiliar stress to the system,

that it will be too preoccupied to understand what is happening, instead of defending further.

No wonder a famous phrase says: "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face".

It is a myth all together that learning to do techniques only with a cooperative partner,

when faced with a resisting opponent will transfer naturally, and it is a myth which

should not be believed by any means.

Now this is a moment, where it is also important to come back to complex motor skills.

While complex techniques which are trained with a live resisting opponent may very well

come into action when faced with a real attacker, many martial arts teach hundreds of different

techniques, often times each one as a unique, different response, to each different attack.

Knowledge of all these different techniques burden the mind with the need to remember

them all and to activate each one under a specific attack.

A real attacker will often times attack in unexpected ways and if we will be trying to

apply a specific technique, to a specific attack, also adding the conditions of adrenaline,

we will be left frozen and unable to perform all the various learned complex motions, as

our brain and body will be struggling to find the right, untested under pressure technique,

under unusual and strenuous circumstances.

This flaw comes out very quickly when live resistance is offered, even in training.

There are already a number of recorded cases where a combat sports practitioner, who is

used to live resistance faces a practitioner used to various complex movements, and little

live resistance.

The combat sports practitioner in these cases has always a huge advantage, and while the

opposite side would oftentimes argue that: "this is just sports.

It's not reality.", in truth, live resistance is live resistance nonetheless, and if a person

is not able to deal with it at least to a fair degree under coordinated circumstances

in sparring, he should be very cautious about expecting it to work when facing a person

with real intention to hurt him.

While the mentioned points are essential in understanding the difference in what works

in learning self defense and what doesn't, there is still one more key component which

is of utmost importance, when wanting to learn realistic self defense, and that is the element

of personal safety and self defense related theory.

Many martial arts school promote themselves as teaching self defense, yet what they mainly

teach is actually just techniques.

The subject of self defense is much more wide than just the physical aspect.

It is important to understand, that if we are attacked physically, that probably implies

that we've done many mistakes prior to this moment, such as not being aware of our surroundings,

taking a more dangerous route, not noticing a potential attacker, failing in a muggers

interview, choosing the wrong clothes and other various details.

Actual self defense as well is not just about defeating the attacker, which many martial

arts focus on.

The goal of self defense is to survive, which may lead to a very different strategy such

as running away or finding a creative solution to prevent the attack, such as breaking a

window to bring attention and to cause the attacker to run away, whilst not wanting to

be caught.

All of this and much more is not something that occurs naturally and even running away

effectively should be properly discussed or even practiced.

Unfortunately many martial arts schools, as mentioned before, while claim to teach self

defense, teach only the physical response to a certain attack and fail to address this

essential part, which arguably makes up for more than half of what self defense is about.

Some martial arts inherently offer more of the mentioned positive aspects such as live

resistance based training and addressing not only the physical, but also the mental aspect

of self defense, yet it also heavily depends on the school and instructor himself and not

only the martial art of how everything will be taught, thus to pick out one single martial

art and to say it is absolutely the best for self defense is dangerous.

It is also important to note, that there are certain systems which do not identify themselves

as martial arts, but present themselves as a direct self defense practice, yet even then

this practice may still easily fall under the same false beliefs of what is actual self

defense.

That is why, on a great level, it is the responsibility of the student himself to choose a martial

art or practice which teaches self defense properly, by having a critical mind and inquiring

prior to practicing what real self defense consists of.

And on the other hand, it is also responsibility of the instructor and school to keep questioning

whether their presented material is what will be actually useful if someone is attacked,

and that they are not presenting something which is simply believed to be true, because

it was passed down from one martial arts instructor to another.

There is no harm ir learning or teaching a martial art just for the aspect of physical

conditioning and personal development, yet this line should be clearly drawn and explained

to any student that comes to practice in such a school.

I hope this video has offered more clarity in what to look for when searching for an

effective self defense system or martial art.

If you want more knowledge about this subject, many of the thoughts presented in the video

were inspired by Tony Blauer's SPEAR self defense system, the teachings of Brazilian

Jiu Jitsu, MMA and self defense coach Matt Thornton and self defense expert Bruno Orozco.

मल्टीबैग्गेर - What is value investing ? Example of multibagger (Hindi) - Duration: 8:01.

Hello investors, my name is Sagar and in this video we will talk about value investing

But I would like to share a personal story first

When I finished my med school , I told some of my friends about my decision to invest in the stock market

Their first response was that it's a place where people gamble and don't invest there as you will not gain anything as nobody knows how the stock price moves

In this video, I will try to explain that there is a process behind this madness

In short term, yes the price fluctuates a lot thanks to the traders but in long term you will see that earnings matter

So let me ask you something . If this was gambling , do you think you would see so many billionaires such as Warren Buffet , Jeff Bezos , Rakesh Jhunjhunwala ?

Did they make that money by gambling? Because Mark Zuckerberg owns only one stock which is his own. The same with Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates

But they did make big amounts of money from the stock market. If you check the billionaires list, you won't see any gambler in that list.

That's because that is gambling and nobody can become a billionaire just by luck.

But in this video , I will show you that there is a process behind the stock market and there is a reason why the stock goes up.

Let's take 2 examples. Havells is a very famous company. When i was reading their annual report, I read they went public 25 years ago.

They were increasing their profits at 30% every year and if you would invested in the stock, you would have got 30% returns CAGR.

So you can see there is a direct relationship with the earnings and the stock price. In short term , there will be fluctuations but in the long term, it would work out well.

Another example is Piramal enterprises. Which is a very good company. If you would have invested in the company , it was increasing their profits by more than 25%

Their stock also gave returns of more than 25% CAGR

What I'm trying to say is that if you can understand the earnings of the company, then you will know the value of the company and how much it will earn in future

So the meaning of value investing is to understand the value of any company and the only way to do that is to understand their earnings

So let's take another example so I can prove my point. Let's say we have a shop where we sell bananas.

And our workers report to us every year and they tell us that our sales have been growing at a rate of 30 - 40 %.

So we get excited at first as those are great numbers but when we ask for our profit numbers

they will tell us that you didn't make any money . In fact , you actually lost money. You loss was 10 crores.

That basically means nothing is coming in our pocket and as a matter of fact there is money leaving our pockets. Now you might be asking how did that happen ?

There is something similar happening in the stock market. You will see many people investing in growth stocks

The revenues are growing between 30 - 40% . I won't take names.

The problem with this growth is that many times there is nothing coming in our pockets if we were owners of this company. So is it worth it ?

I'm not saying these are bad companies or you shouldn't invest. From a value investing perspective

These companies don't have positive earnings . So if you do decide to invest, wait until they are profitable.

Let some money come in your pocket first if you were an owner. If you invest now, it means that you think maybe the company will be profitable

You can't be sure because they aren't profitable yet

So you are investing based on hope and expectations. Do you think that is the best decision ?

So let's say we have our company which doesn't make money and then we have another company which is profitable

and yet we decide to invest in ours compared to the other one. Do you think that's the best decision ?

So when you're analysing growth stocks , please keep in mind their earnings and if they are profitable. If not , that is not a value investing stock.

because if you don't know the earnings , how will you know the value of the stock ?

Now the problem is , do we need to know the exact value of a stock ? if yes, that requires to much time.

The answer is really simple. You don't need to know the exact value of a stock.

Let's take an example. If you give a big stone and I ask you is this heavy or not. Do you really need to know is it's weight is 200 kg 220 kg or 240 kg ?

So as you can see you don't need to know the weight. You know it's heavy. Something similar happens in stocks.

You don't need to know the exact value of a stock but you do need to know if the stock is cheap or not.

If it's cheap then you can buy it. If not, then don't buy it. As simple as that.

Let's talk about a real life example where you could've made 400 %in less than 3 years with value investing.

It's not a small secret stock. Many people knew this company.

The name of the company is Bombay Burmah Trading. They had many investments in their portfolio.

One was Bombay dyeing where they had more than 14 % of investment.

The second investment was in Britannia, which was around 50%. So you could've bet indirectly in Britannia with this company.

So if you would have checked what was the Britannia investment worth ? You would know it was around 30 000 crores.

This company had a market cap of 3 000 crores. Now do you need to calculate the value of the company ?

No , because you already know their market cap is 3000 crores and their investment in Britannia is worth 30 000 crores. Now it's bit more.

So you were getting the stock at an 80 - 90 % discount . It could have given you more than 400 % in just a couple of years.

And we didn't even include the investment of Bombay Dyeing as that was a small part.

This is the types of investments you should be looking for. Where you don't need to calculate exact value of any company.

You just needed to see the market cap of Bombay Burmah Trading and their investment in Britannia and you would have made 400% returns.

There are more ways to value a company but in this video I wanted to show the easiest one.

So, if you want to see which sectors am I investing in or which stocks am I reading about, feel free to follow me on Twitter as I'm very active there.

If you did like this video, then please click the like button, comment and share this video with your friends so I can share more investment strategies.

Who were real thugs of Hindostan? Real story of British vs Thugs | Tree Pie - Duration: 5:11.

If you're new then subscribe to my channel and hit the bell icon so you do not miss any

video by treepie again.

Hi guys welcome back to my channel.

I'm treepie.

So, amir khan, amitabh bacchan and katrina kaif starrer thugs of hindostan's trailer

is out and it is amazing.

This movie is making some news for its eerie similarities to pirates of the Caribbean.

Often used as slang the term thug has indian origin and a deep history attached to it,

which i will reveal in this video further but first, let us see who were the real thugs

of hindostan.

Thugs "a murderous cult tribe" who will make the current crop of criminals look like

amateurs.

They numbered 10,000 and they killed 30,000 a year!

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the Thuggee cult was responsible for approximately

two million deaths.

Why did they do that?

They tried to cover their crimes claiming that the Hindu Goddess Kali Bhowanee is happy

and more so in proportion to the blood that is shed".

I will cover that aspect of history subsequently.

Meet Thug Behram from British era India!!

Played by Amitabh Bacchan as Khudabaksh.

Sleeman's writings caught the imagination of the British reader.

At a time of evangelical missions in India, 'thugs' became an appropriate symbol of the

'darkness and strangeness' of the East, that was in dire need to be 'controlled'.

The history of thug becomes a mystery, and unknowability of the truth in the face of

no physical-historical remains of thuggee, adds to our fascination.

Thug was name of a Jati in India which used to live in forest.

They were big hurdle for British in colonization of India as they used to fight against British

who wanted to destroy their forest, hence they were vilified and killed by British.

"The British themselves committed many horrible acts while justifying them by compiling what

is known as atrocity literature to depict the savagery of Indians.

For example: The Criminal Tribes Act was passed in 1871

and made it lawful to perform genocide against a list of Indian tribes who were deemed to

be 'criminals', including every member of these tribes right from birth.

Many tribes were condemned not because they were 'criminal' , but because they were fighting

against the British destruction of their jungles and other habitats.

Thugs, who claim their inception from the sweat of goddess Kali.

When goddess Kali was fighting with the demon king Raktbij, every time a drop of Raktbij's

blood fell on the land it created another clone of Raktbij.

Kali then created two humans with her sweat, armed with a piece of cloth each to strangle

the clones while she spread her tongue over the earth to avoid any other drop landing

on the land and devoured them.

She also asked them to kill all the humans who were not of their tribe, while she went

on the rage ridden killing spree.

Lord Shiva had to intervene to placate her, he lay in her path.

Their version of the story.

However, a lot of the captured Thugs were Muslims and Sikhs as well, exemplary display

of Unity in diversity.

In 1935, William Henry Sleeman, a Civil servant and an army officer was put in charge of the

Jubbulpore district, where he saw the menace of the Thugs and made it a personal objective

to eradicate Thugee and stop the murders.

Behram Jamadar, played by Amtabh Bachhan as Khudabaksh, leader of the cult assassins,

who operated near Jabalpur from 1780s till 1840, was a ruthless killer who, upon being

arrested agreed to recall 931 murders that he was responsible for out of which he himself

strangled 125 victims by his yellow rumal.

One of the Thugs Syed Amir Ali, payed by AMir Khan as Firangi, who turned informant told

about the whereabouts of his Thug brethren and showed the mass graves to the police.

It was normal for a captured Thug to turn informant as they believed that it was a wish

of Goddess Kali and that they were not doing their duties(of killing people) diligently.

Behram reigned for more than half of a century but captured in 1940 and hanged by a mango

tree in Jabalpur.

Death of Behram marked the end of the cult of Thugee.

So, it still remains to be seen how the thugs of hindostan will do justice to reality or

will it just play with the superficial fascination of the fiction.

Ford's Friend Who Was Allegedly at Party Issues Statement on FBI Investigation - Duration: 4:12.

A statement from the attorney representing a friend of Christine Blasey Ford's indicated

once again that she has no recollection of the event that Ford testified to in the Senate

on Thursday.

Ford claimed that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and attempted

to rape her at a party 36 years ago.

That accusation put Kavanaugh's confirmation vote on hold until the FBI can further investigate

her claims.

Thus far, the only evidence that Ford has brought in the case is her own testimony.

All of the individuals who she claimed attended the party with her and Kavanaugh deny any

knowledge of the event taking place.

One of those people is Ford's close friend Leland Keyser.

Last week, Keyser said in a statement from her attorney, on penalty of a felony, that

she didn't attend such a partyand didn't even know Kavanaugh.

"Simply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever

being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford," attorney

Howard Walsh III said.

Walsh spoke out again Saturday, saying that Keyser doesn't have any helpful information.

In a letter sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee, he said, "Ms. Keyser asked that I communicate

to the committee her willingness to cooperate fully with the FBI's supplemental investigation

of Dr. Christine Ford's allegation against Judge Brett Kavanaugh."

Walsh went on to stipulate that "as my client as already made clear, she does not know Judge

Kavanaugh and has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was

present, with, or without, Dr. Ford."

Keyser does, however, believe Ford, she said.

Notably Ms. Keyser does not refute Dr. Ford's account, and she has already told the press

that she believes Dr. Ford's account," Walsh said.

Her belief in her friend didn't keep Keyser from conveying that "the simple and unchangeable

truth is that she is unable to corroborate it because she has no recollection of the

incident in question."

Ms. Keyser asked that I communicate to the Committee her willingness to cooperate fully

with the FBI's supplemental investigation of Dr. Christine Ford's allegations against

Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

However, as my client has already made clear, she does not know Judge Kavanaugh and has

no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without,

Dr. Ford.

Notably, Ms. Keyser does not refute Dr. Ford's account, and she has already told the press

that she believes Dr. Ford's account.

However, the simple and unchangeable truth is that she is unable to corroborate it because

she has no recollection of the incident in question.

Nonetheless, she looks forward to being of any assistance she can.

BREAKING: letter to Committee from atty for the female Dr. Ford says was at the 1982 party

(Leland Keyser) Keyser's statement came in response to the

decision by the Senate, which was backed by President Donald Trump, to ask the FBI to

further investigate the allegations against Kavanaugh.

The president's stamp of approval on the controversial supplemental investigation came

with some limitations.

I've ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh's

file," Trump said in a statement.

"As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in

less than one week."

Statement from President "I've ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental

investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh's file.

As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less

than one week."

However, many Republicans view the way this accusation has been handled by Democrats to

be little more than a stalling technique in hopes of postponing the vote until after the

midterm elections.

During Thursday's questioning, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, one of the Republicans

on the Senate Judiciary Committee, called out his colleagues for what he called the

"charade" and for victimizing both Ford and Kavanaugh.

An earlier version of this article accidentally referred to Ms. Leland Keyser as "he"

and, in one instance from her lawyer's transcribed statement, as "Mr. Keyser."

We corrected these mistakes within a few minutes of their being pointed out by a reader, but

failed to issue a correction in accordance with our own Ethics and Editorial Standards.

We apologize to Ms. Keyser and our readers for these errors.

Breaking News - 'What is he doing coming out there?' Hoddle questions Lloris' keeping - Duration: 1:45.

Hugo Lloris was wrong to come out of his goal ahead of Barcelona's opener on Wednesday night, according to Glenn Hoddle

Lloris sprinted towards the right side of his area to close down Jordi Alba. The Spanish full back was able to easily cut the ball back for Philippe Coutinho who finished into an open net in the Champions League match against Tottenham at Wembley

It left Hoddle, who was commentating on the game for BT Sport, baffled as to why Lloris made the decision to close down Alba

The Sportsmail columnist said: 'It's a wonderful ball and [Kieran] Trippier gets caught with his back to the play

'But Lloris, what is he doing coming out there? Absolutely I don't know why he's come out

He's committed himself as goalkeeper, Alba cuts it back to Coutinho and what a finish that is because he's still got a lot to do there

'But Lloris, my word, why he's engaging and coming out and getting drawn towards the ball I do not know

' Lloris was playing in his first match since injuring his thigh in Tottenham's 3-0 victory over Manchester United

SDA 1 - what life in stone age was like (using themes) - Duration: 6:33.

hey guys today we're going to talk about what life in the Stone Age was like

using the themes of history I want this video to show what evidence suggests

about how Stone Age people lived but before we get any further and I want to

explain how all the information I'm about to provide to you was found

through answering the question "how do we know about the Stone Age?" as you probably

know Stone Age people did not have written language so there are very few

artifacts from that time we have to rely on other types of evidence to know what

life in the Stone Age was one type of evidence that we rely on is

archaeological evidence such as fossils tools carvings and cave paintings they

help us understand how Stone Age people lived and another type of evidence that

we use is based off of modern hunter-gatherer societies since there

are still some people in the world who live in the Stone Age lifestyle examples

include the Aboriginal people in Australia the Khoisan people of southern

Africa and the Awa tribe of the Amazon in South America these people have kept

some of the traditions and customs of the Stone Age so we can make guesses

about what life was like thousands of years ago by learning from them

now that that's out of the way we can now actually talk about what life in the

Stone Age was like using themes the first thing that we're going to talk

about is economics when I say economics you might think of

economy as jobs and money but these are modern concepts for most of human

history money did not exist the economy is all the things people do with the

resources they have Stone Age people were nomadic hunter-gatherers their food

was what they could gather or kill what they could gather were resources such as

fruits which by the way these are so freakin cute

I found a Gif it's so oddly satisfying... oh and eggs look at this dude and honey

and last but not least killed small animals which by the way I feel so

guilty for these are so cute

next up we have the theme of political now we don't know how people in the Stone Age made

decisions Stone Age bands did not have governments like today but

we think that they may choose one of the young strong man to be the leader or the

chief who can make decisions for everyone

the chief probably consulted the elders because of their wisdom and experience

one of the most important elders is the shaman or the witch doctor who could

communicate with the spirits we are now onto the theme of culture we have found

a lot of artwork made by early humans including cave paintings and carvings

they made paint by grinding up minerals of various colors

historians guess that people painted paintings to worship or to record

important events evidence also suggests that Stone Age people were animistic

which means they believed that there were spirits in the nature they respect

the spirits in animals trees rocks water and they thought that those spirits

caused things that they couldn't explain

and the last thing we're going to talk about today is society in a Stone Age

society people lived in small groups or band of about 10 and 12 adults and their children

men and woman did different work

men and boys did the hunting while woman and girls gathered food

in a Stone Age tribe there was no idea of rich and poor there was no "help me I'm poor" like this woman

or "I'm rich" like this woman people share food and resources communally

that's it hope you enjoyed watching the video and learned something out of it

thanks for watching and not clicking off right away when I started

Gisele Bundchen Reveals She Cried When She Was Forced To Walk A Fashion Show Topless - Daily News - Duration: 3:31.

Gisele Bundchen released her tell-all memoir 'Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life' on Oct

2, and in it, she wrote about some terrifying career moments, including the first time she walked topless on a runway

Gisele Bundchen, 38, shared a very intimate and heartbreaking moment in her new book, Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, which was released on Oct

2, when she revealed that she almost ran away from walking the runway that helped her break into a successful modeling career after realizing she had to go topless

The Brazilian beauty explained that her modeling career was almost over when the opportunity to walk the 1998 Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer show came up, but she "began to cry" and considered "running away" after learning the details about the lack of clothing

Fortunately, Gisele was saved by a makeup artist who saw the panic on her face and offered a solution

"As soon as Val, the makeup artist, saw the situation, she said she would paint a top on me using white makeup," Gisele wrote in her book

"Val told me how beautiful it looked and said that the runway was so dark nobody would know

If Val hadn't shown up then, I seriously doubt I could have walked the runway."    In addition to writing about the pivotal modeling moment, Gisele expressed her feelings about who she felt she was back then

The now mom-of-two said she "couldn't believe" that she was given the opportunity of the international McQueen show because she was a teenager (she was 18 at the time) who spoke "limited English" and was having no luck with her auditions

For that show, however, she beat out thousands of other beautiful women who lined up in the streets to audition for a spot

When she was picked, she explained that she was given three "looks" that she would be wearing and was fitted right away

The runway required her to walk in rain which hid the tears she had beforehand. "No one could tell what was rain and what was tears," she said

Gisele's anxious and depressing moment at the McQueen show was actually derived from deeper issues that she had for a long time before that

"I was a good girl," she continued to write. "I was a tomboy. I was someone whose big breasts had embarrassed her since she'd hit puberty

I was a girl gripped by the fear that my family would feel so embarrassed they would never to me again

I was terrified." Luckily, her family didn't see the pics of the show when they came out since the availability of the internet was very limited in the late 1990s, and her walk was extremely successful

"It turned out that walking in Alexander McQueen's show was the beginning of my international career," she admitted
