vote against the budget due to not having read the entire - comma - 32 page

document he has slammed his peers for voting on the document without

A U.S. intelligence gathering plane is shot down over Laos,
becoming one of the first American casualties
of the conflict in Southeast Asia.
The objective of the C-47 Skytrain
was to locate a concealed airfield
by determining the frequencies used by Soviet pilots.
Her crew of eight lifted off from the Laotian capital
and headed north toward Communist held areas,
when they were lit up by artillery fire.
Only Army Major Lawrence R. Bailey would survive,
becoming a prisoner of war for 17 months.
In a press conference that same day,
President John F. Kennedy stressed the importance
of defending Laos's freedom, to remain unified and neutral,
rather than fall in to the hands of Communism
as the Soviet backed guerrilla fighters wanted.
He urged constructive negotiation
among the nations concerned,
including the leadership of Laos.
His hope for peace in the small country was not to be.

I`m Carl Azuz and I spy some awesome! It`s Friday. We`re happy to have you watching as
CNN 10 wraps up another week
of news.
Today`s down the middle coverage starts with a look new tariffs which are like taxes that
the U.S. is placing on certain imports. We`ve talked about
the Trump administration`s previous tariffs on steel, aluminum, solar panels and washing
machines. The new ones that U.S. President Donald Trump
is putting in place are on about $50 billion worth of imported goods from China.
It`s a sort of punishment on China for what the U.S.
says are unfair trade practices that never should have been allowed by previous American
leaders.
President Trump says he thinks of China as a friend, but that the trade deficit that
the U.S. has with China, the fact that America imports far
more goods from China than it exports to China is unacceptable.

DONALD TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: It is the largest deficit of any country in
the history of our world. It`s out of control.

AZUZ: Some economists are afraid this could start a trade war, when countries increase
restrictions on another`s products and prices rise. And
the U.S. stock market dropped yesterday significantly, partially because some investors were concerned
that would happen. The Trump administration
says the new tariffs would only have a small effect on Americans but an expert on international
trade says Americans will end up having to pay more
for every day items, and a Chinese government official says a trade war does no good to
anyone, that there is no winner.
The tariffs won`t take effect immediately. It will probably be more than a month before
they`re in place.
Next story today, the Toyota Motor Company says it`s temporarily stopping its test of
self driving cars. The Boston Department of Transportation has
asked autonomous car companies to pause testing there and the Uber transportation company
says it`s stopped self-driving cars throughout the
U.S. and Canada.
This all follows an incident that happened on Sunday in Tempe, Arizona. That night, a
self-driving Uber SUV hit and killed a pedestrian. The
victim was walking her bicycle across a road when she was struck by an autonomous Volvo.
Police say the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk and that there`s also no indication
that the self driving vehicle slow down beforehand. It was
travelling at about 40 miles per hour.
Uber says it`s fully cooperating with the police investigation and that the company`s
hearts go out to the victim`s family.
This isn`t the first crash of a self-driving car, but it is believed to be the first time
someone was killed by a fully autonomous vehicle. The SUV
did have a test-driver inside, a person there as a safeguard, but the car was in self-driving
mode when the crash occurred. Police say there were no
signs that the test driver was impaired in any way after the collusion.
The state of Arizona doesn`t get a lot of rain. It`s a popular place for self-driving
car tests. Arizona`s governor updated an executive order
earlier this month before the crash that allows self-driving cars to use state roads without
a test driver.

As their name suggests, Antarctica`s Dry Valleys have extremely low humidity and almost no
snow or ice to cover them.

AZUZ: An international campaign has been launched to create a massive sanctuary, a protective
area in the oceans around Antarctica. But that
would make fishing there illegal. And that`s part of the reason why efforts like this have
failed in years past.
According to the environmental group Greenpeace, the international fishing industry has been
using these waters to catch krill. These animals are
like tiny shrimp. They`re an important food source for the animals around Antarctica.
The krill are also important to people as they can be used in
oils, supplements and pet food.
We don`t know yet whether the international community will agree to establish a new sanctuary
but we did get a close-up view of Antarctica.

ARWA DAMON, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): It`s an ethereal world that we wake up to
our first morning in the Antarctic. That sort of harsh yet
captivating mystical beauty, with penguins swimming and jumping in the waters, right
around our ship, the Arctic Sunrise.
(on camera): It`s so beautiful and quiet, you almost don`t even want to speak above
a whisper. And there is two whales right there. This is
absolutely unbelievable.
See them?
(voice-over): And as if the morning couldn`t get more striking, we are in the first week
of a month-long leg of a Greenpeace expedition that started
in January, a campaign to build the case for the creation of the world`s largest ocean
sanctuary in the Antarctic, which is a vital carbon sink.
And that`s what we`ve come to learn more about, the Antarctic`s potential to act as a buffer
to climate change. We started off in Punta Arenas in
Chile before hitting the Drake Passage, notorious for its huge swells and rough waters.
(on camera): It`s day four and we`re crossing through the Drake Passage. And we`re lucky
because by the Drake Passage`s standards, these are
actually really calm waters.
(voice-over): For many of the Greenpeace team on board and us, this is a first.
(on camera): Yes. I think those are seals.
(voice-over): Before we head to shore, all equipment and clothing needs to be carefully
cleaned.
(on camera): It`s quite interesting because, when you look at it from the outside in, it
feels like it`s this very harsh and robust environment. And
yet it`s incredibly sensitive.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It`s really sensitive, especially for the non-native species.
DAMON (voice-over): And we are off, heading toward Yankee Harbor.
(on camera): Oh, it`s so weird to be on land again.
Look at the seals!
(voice-over): This tiny island, like the rest of the massive land mass in the Antarctic,
is designated for scientific exploration and protected under
the Antarctic Treaty.
But that treaty does not extend to the Antarctic`s waters, hence Greenpeace`s mission. Even this
region`s most humorous of animals have
their role in nature`s equilibrium.
(on camera): What does that mean?
I don`t know what that means.
(voice-over): Marine biologist and Greenpeace campaigner, Thilo Maack (ph), has been looking
at the intricate links between these waters, its
wildlife and the fundamental role they play in Earth`s carbon cycle.
(on camera): If you look over there, they are trying to jump up on the ice. That is
hilarious.
THILO MAACK, MARINE BIOLOGIST AND GREENPEACE CAMPAIGNER: Yes, they are really cute, that`s
true. Yes, it`s -- the Antarctic is a cooling chamber
that mitigates the effects of climate change. And what happens here is having an effect
on the climate of the planet.
The ocean currents are driven by the cold waters of the Antarctic.
DAMON (voice-over): And the wildlife is central to driving carbon-rich biomass to the depths
of the dense, cold ocean waters, where it is then
stored for millennia if it`s left undisturbed.
There are still many unknowns and the more scientists uncover, the more questions arise.
But there is no doubt about the harmony here, one whose
preservation is potentially linked to our very existence.

AZUZ: We`re sending you into the weekend with a sling shot. It`s a thrill ride. And the
Florida State soccer player on the left looks a lot more
thrilled about it than the Florida State soccer player on the right. Maybe Megan Connolly
was unhappy to be here at first, but that`s nothing compared
to how unhappy she was when the ride launched. Her reaction which is nothing short of sheer
terror is why this video was shared all over social
media.
Predicting how people would react to a slingshot in the dark, to Megan, maybe this seemed more
like an un-amusement park ride. But after getting
roped in to something that likely stretched her concept of fun, at least she wasn`t held
in suspense. Thankfully afterward, she was able to bounce
back.

Former US President Barack Obama meets high achieving wāhine Māori - Duration: 2:22.

former US President Barack Obama met today
with a group of high achieving Maori women.
And as some of those women shared with Irena Smith,
it was an encounter with a man who is inspirational,
humble and had a genuine interest in Maori people.
These women are still buzzing.
This day is like no other for these Maori women.
They spent one hour with Barack Obama at his hotel
before he left today.
Kiri Nathan handed him some gifts, something she says was very special.
They say a great outcome was that he is open to having
a future relationship.
A day not to be forgotten,
Obama now makes his way to Australia.

China to retaliate against new U.S. tariffs, stoking fear of trade war - Duration: 2:13.
The Trump administration announced a host of new tariffs on goods from China.
The decision follows a seven-month investigation into what Washington calls Beijing's theft
of intellectual property, an issue that's long stood in the way of the two country's
trade relations.
The Asian giant vowed to formulate a resolute response.
Park Hee-jun zooms in on what could be a prelude to a trade war.
U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to impose tariffs on up to 60 billion U.S. dollars worth
of Chinese goods... has stoked fears of a trade war between the world's two biggest
economies.
According to Trump, China is responsible for the loss of thousands of American jobs and
a U.S. trade deficit worth hundreds of billions.
"But we have a trade deficit, depending on the way you calculate it, of 504 billion dollars.
Now some people would say it's really 375 billion dollars.
Many different ways of looking at it but any way you look at it, it is the largest deficit
of any country in the history of our world.
It's out of control."
But the administration said it's a retaliatory move against what it calls China's use of
pressure and intimidation to steal U.S. intellectual property.
In addition to the tariffs, the Trump administration also plans to restrict new Chinese investment
in America and take action against China at the World Trade Organization for what it calls
unfair trade practices.
China, in response, said it's ready to retailate.
The Chinese embassy in Washington, vowed to "fight to the end" in any trade war with
the United States.
Beijing's Commerce Ministry also announced in a statement that it plans to slap a 15-percent
tarriff on 120 categories of American agricultural and steel goods, and take legal action against
the U.S. at the WTO.
The prospect of a global trade war sent stock markets reeling.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell almost 3 percent after the announcement,... and fears
were even more evident in Asian markets, where in Hong Kong the Hang Seng fell as much as
3.7 percent and Japan's Nikkei by about 3.9 percent.

S. Korean Pres. Moon receives state welcome from Vietnamese pres. S. Korea-Vietnam summit underway - Duration: 2:45.
President Moon Jae-in has kicked off his second day in Vietnam - the first leg of his seven
day, two nation tour.
The South Korean leader is expected to meet with the Southeast Asian nation's key leaders
today.
Our chief Blue House correspondent Moon Connyoung is traveling with the president.
She joins us live from Hanoi.
Connyoung, what can you tell us about the president's state visit to Vietnam thus far?
It is day two of the South Korean president's three-day state visit to Vietnam, but as we
landed here in Hanoi in the afternoon yesterday today is actually the first full day President
Moon has in this Southeast Asian country.
Mr. Moon began his day by paying homage at the mausoleum of the first president of the
Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh... a revolutionary Communist leader and the principal
force behind the Vietnamese struggle against French colonial rule after World War II.
President Moon and First Lady Kim Jung-sook then moved to the presidential palace of Vietnam
where South Korea's first couple received a state welcome from Vietnamese President
Tran dai Quang.
The South Korean leader received a full welcome ceremony with military band and gun salutes.
The two leaders are sitting down for a bilateral summit, as we speak.
President Moon and his Vietnamese counterpart were expected to discuss bringing their bilateral
relationship to a whole new level.
Following the one-on-one, they will also hold an expanded summit with their key aides in
presence and hold a joint press conference where they are expected to unveil a joint
declaration for future-oriented relationship between the two countries.
What's on his agenda for the rest of the day?
Well, Mark.
I can tell you... he has a full day ahead of him.
The South Korean leader will also meet with top Vietnamese officials including the General
Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Prime Minister as well as the Chairwoman
of Vietnam's National Assembly.
But President Moon will spend most of his late afternoon meeting businessmen from both
South Korea and Vietnam and encouraging more active business and trade relations between
the two.
Another interesting agenda on the South Korean president's itinerary: he's expected to play
career counselor to South Koreans seeking jobs in Vietnam.
That, the presidential office says, to encourage more young South Korean jobseekers to tap
into Vietnamese employment market.

We will invest in our common future.
We can put our financial woes behind us if we put proper management in place and take
corrective measures.
The State Treasurer's job has two tasks: overseeing our pension funds, and issuing bonds.
I am an expert at both.
Before starting my own business in Shelton 20 years ago, creating dozens of jobs here
in CT, I was CFO of billion dollar businesses, managing finances on a scale larger, even,
than our State's.
I have directly overseen massive pension funds and have issued one of the largest bond offerings
in history.
That's what our Treasurer does.
No other candidate for Treasurer even has a professional financial qualification.
Politics as usual will not cut it this time around.
We need to elect the most experienced, skilled person for the job.
I have those skills.
I also have a plan.
My proposals include: restructuring pension plans, replacing high-cost obligations, and
improving return on pension funds assets through better asset allocation, and better selection
of investment managers.
These are specific proposals that will address the budget deficit created by 50 years of
unfunded pension liabilities.
They will stabilize the State's finances, eliminating future deficits, and accelerate
new business creation.
In these difficult times we should be clear: our next State Treasurer must have the skills
needed for the job on Day 1.
This Office cannot be a stepping stone of ambition to higher office.
I am running for one reason: to help our State.
I am asking for your support to help restore a climate of fiscal calm in Connecticut that
will put our State on a path to recovery.

U.S. trusts S. Korea in talks for N.K. summit: U.S. State Department - Duration: 1:25.
Washington is willing and ready to hold a summit with North Korea in May.
Following the announcement, the U.S. State Department spokesperson confirmed preparations
are being made for the historic event.
Kim Mok-yeon shares with us her remarks.
North Korea is yet to release an official announcement on U.S. President Trump accepting
the regime's offer to hold a summit, leading to mounting speculation regarding Pyongyang's
plan.
Despite the lack of an official response, the U.S. State Department said it is still
pushing through with preparations for a possible summit between U.S. President Trump and North
Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Washington's conviction that such summit will take place is based on the trust it has on
Seoul, according to State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert.
She referred to South Korea as the "best interlocutor" on North Korea issues, stressing that the
U.S. trusts its allies and partners.
Earlier this month, President Moon Jae-in's chief national security adviser Chung Eui-yong
delivered North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's message to the White House, which said that
the North is committed to denuclearization, and is willing to hold talks on the issue
with the U.S. president.
Meanwhile, regarding President Moon's remarks that a three-way meeting with Pyongyang and
Washington could be possible, Nauert said that although there are no such plans currently,
the U.S. is in close consultation with South Korea and Japan regarding such possibility.
