Hello, everyone!

My name is Alyona and I play the violin.

How many hours a day should a musician practise?

Every musician asks this question, everybody is interested in it, but there is no a definite

answer.I personally know a musician who practises for 8 hours a day and has achieved nothing.

I also know some very skilled musicians who practise for approximately 3 hours a day.Having

said that, we can come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter how many hours a day we

practise.

What matters is how we practise.

What is the point of practising for 8 hours a day if you achieve much less than those

who practise for only three?

People come to your performances not to find out how many hours you practise this is of

interest to nobody they merely come to listen to the music you play.

The key idea is to optimise and organise your practice time.

It's extremely important.

First of all, make a list of the tasks you have to complete during your practice session.

For instance, the first thing you should do is warm up by playing scales, etudes arpeggios,

and so on, depending on the instrument you play.

Devoting 15 or 20 minutes to this warm-up should be enough.

Don't spend hours warming up, as it takes too much energy.

You're simply warming up, and 20 minutes is enough.

Then begin working on your problems.

Don't waste time practising what you already play well.

You must find your problems and then work on them until you can play them well.

This is absolutely crucial.You should set clear, visible and achievable tasks that you

have to complete.What is really important is taking a break while you are practising.

If you have three or four hours, I would highly recommend dividing your time up into several

periods.

For example, you should spend 45 minutes practising and then 15 minutes resting.

It's desirable to let your mind clear.

Your brain can only concentrate on something for roughly 45 minutes before getting tired.When

45 minutes have passed, you should ask yourself what you have accomplished: what has changed?

It's crucial to see the results of your work because a lot of people waste their time practising

for nothing.

They just enjoy playing the pieces they have already learnt and that they already know.

Your aim should be to practise what you don't yet know.

You should be able to demonstrate the results of your practising to yourself.

If you cannot, you have simply wasted your time.

It would have been much better if you had had a nap.

If you get tired while practising and cannot concentrate on what you are doing, or you

feel distracted, take a break.

There is no point in continuing to practise while in such a state.

Practising in this way is simply wasting your time.

Okay.

You have had a break.

Your mind is clear.

Continue practicing.

Set your tasks for the next 45 minutes, and so on.

Normally, musicians cannot practise this way for more than three or four hours.

However, if you can practise in this manner for 8 hours, you must be a genius or you have

super powers.

So the big thing I see with the ABA therapy is

getting the maximum amount of hours

you can use and utilize

whether it's spread out or you have

some longer days, some shorter days.

You as parents and the BCBA and the Behavioral Therapists

come up with what's going to work for

each individual child.

It's been so easy to have this person

because they're going to help your kid

and once you see even just the small little

achievements and the results of having that person

in your house for so long for so many hours in the day

you think, "Great, can you come over more because

you're doing amazing work, I want you to

come over to my house after his nap time

so we can keep working on this."

I equate it to the same as if you're

trying to learn a new language.

If you're trying to learn Spanish

and you spend an hour a day reading

well great, then you've got some experience

on it a little bit.

But if you spend four or five hours a day

reading, studying, practicing language

then you are going to develop and

be fluent in that much, much quicker

because you've spent the time with that.

You know, will an hour a day work?

Yes. But it's going to take a lot, lot longer.

The main reason why having her here

for five hours a day is so crucial is because

sometimes half of those hours is just

sitting there waiting for him to

get over his meltdown,

to actually do what she's asking him to do.

So if she was only here for two hours

it just really puts a huge break on

any kind of goals that you have.
