Dark eyes, burning eyes

Passionate and splendid eyes

How I love you, How I fear you

Truly, I saw you at a sinister hour

Dark eyes, flaming eyes

They implore me into faraway lands

Where love reigns, where peace reigns

Where there is no suffering, where war is forbidden

If I hadn't met you, I wouldn't be suffering so

I would have lived my life smiling

You have ruined me, dark eyes

You have taken my happiness away forever

You have ruined me, dark eyes

You have taken my happiness away forever

WARG -The Horror (Dark Tales 2019) - Duration: 5:15.

Lights turn to black, no ray of light,

Hopes turn to dust, no will to fight,

When all is lost and nothing's right I feel the calling of the wild

Old Ancient Ones, the gate is here My fate, I'm chosen as the seed

and breath free me from my damnation

Rise - I'm the fire Rise - You summoned the fear

Rise - I'm the horror Rise - the ending is near

A nightmare crawls the deepest night

In Dunwich shall the horror arise Worse than the dread within this dream

to realize it's haunting me

The candles burn, no warmth inside, The silence screams, I realize

the path to sanity is lost and there's no answer in the dark

Bound by desire, open the gate by dawn the will to set this free

Lead... by the hands... of pulsing madness

Rise - I'm the fire Rise - You summoned the fear

Rise - I'm the horror Rise - the ending is near

A nightmare crawls the deepest night

In Dunwich shall the horror arise Worse than the dread within this dream

to realize it's haunting me

Cries, in the night... the cattle slaughtered by fear, no disguise... the horror has waken

All-in-One and One-in-All All-in-One and One-in-All

Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate.

Yog-Sothoth is the key and the guardian of the gate.

No, the spawn of the night the hunter inside

The Dunwich horror is the child of the one

Space and time, the elder sign Yog-Sothoth knows and sees all

Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate.

Yog-Sothoth is the key and the guardian of the gate.

Rise - I'm the fire Rise - You summoned the fear

Rise - I'm the horror Rise - the ending is near

A nightmare crawls the deepest night

In Dunwich shall the horror arise Worse than the dread within this dream

to realize it's haunting me

The nightmare ends in moonless night In Dunwich was the horror confined

Strength beyond the lore it has to realize how close it was

The end was near We faced the fear

We closed the gate Shall the seal remain?

The Fermi Paradox: Dark Forest Theory - Duration: 17:55.

We spend a fair amount of time on this channel discussing the Fermi Paradox and a fairly

common request I get is to discuss the Dark Forest Theory, the notion that nearby alien

civilizations remain silent to avoid detection or getting killed, and may attack us for not

being silent.

This concept comes from the novel Dark Forest, the second book in Cxin Liu's Hugo Award

winning trilogy Remembrance of Earth's Past, often called the Three-Body Problem for the

first book.

It essentially looks at the problem from the perspective of Game Theory.

We've bypassed covering it previously for two reasons, first, it's actually fairly

easy to take it apart, we've already covered a more generalized version in episodes like

Sleeping Giants or Hidden Aliens.

Second, Game Theory is itself a bit much to introduce in a single episode, so it would

violate my general rule on this channel of minimal math and having episodes be standalone,

whenever reasonably possible.

Game theory though is really handy for a lot of galactic scale problems because so often

it's used to address problems where the decision makers can't actually communicate

with each other or do much investigation.

That's exactly the sort of problem you get when dealing with decades or centuries of

light lag from interstellar distances.

It's also a very handy approach when you can't say much else about the other parties,

or players, involved beyond that they probably are reasonably rational and have time to choose

the best way of behaving, with which light lag again helps.

It's really hard to predict the behavior of another human who grew up in the same time

and culture as yourself, let alone some alien with a different evolutionary background,

an artificial intelligence or even just a human who might be genetically or cybernetically

altered or augmented.

You can't assume they will be ultra-rational, but you're generally better off working

from that premise than trying to guess in what specific ways they are not, because you

will drown yourself in possibilities.

We can also assume interstellar civilizations all know math, and will assume everyone else

does too.

So it makes it very attractive to use Game Theory and other mathematical approaches to

decision making to guess at behavior.

It is however also very easy to over-simplify problems with game theory and get misled by

the answer.

That's basically what happens with Dark Forest Theory.

The Dark Forest can be viewed as an adaptation of the Prisoner's Dilemma, a classic of

game theory, so we'll review that quickly, then explain the Dark Forest version.

There are a ton of good videos on Game Theory and the Prisoner's Dilemma if you want to

explore that more, SciShow did a good introduction to it a few years back.

If you want a deep exploration, William Spaniel has a whole channel devoted to it, and Jade

from Up and Atom did an episode on the Quantum Prisoner's Dilemma, a fun variation on the

original.

Brilliant, one of the channel's sponsors, also has some great online courses for game

theory, and I'll just refer everyone who really wants to dig into the topic to those.

The basic Prisoner's Dilemma is as follows: Two gang members get arrested on suspicion

of having robbed a store, and both were found with illegal weapons on them, a slam dunk

for two years in prison.

However there's not enough evidence to get them for the robbery.

So the police separate them and offer them both the same offer.

Confess and rat out your partner and we will let you go, no prison time at all, for the

weapon violation or the robbery.

We're making your partner the same offer, and whichever of you confesses first goes

free, the other is going away for 10 years for the robbery.

Each of them can either speak out, and hopefully beat the other guy to the punch and be let

go, or stay quiet, hope the other does too, and each get 2 years, a total of 4, much better

than 10, but worse than 0.

In some versions if both speak they both get 7 years, but the general notion is that it's

in the rational self-interest of each of them to confess, and game theory always revolves

around folks acting in their own rational self-interest.

Unfortunately, as the primary example to introduce folks to Game Theory, using a pair of criminals

with no concern for the other's welfare, it often gives people the impression that

game theory doesn't predict the behavior of rational, self-interested folks but rational,

self-interested sociopaths.

You can just as easily modify it to some case where a husband and wife get abducted and

put in solitary confinement with a saw and a tourniquet and told that they have 30 minutes

to saw their left arm off, and if they don't, they'll be released but their spouse will

be shot, and their spouse is getting the same offer.

Here the reward is different since you presumably value your spouse more than your arm and would

expect them to feel likewise and make the same deduction, and rational self-interest

for most people would be to lose an arm rather than a spouse, I hope.

The Prisoner Dilemma gets used a lot because it's very simple but normally a realistic

game theory case might have several additional options and players, who each get different

rewards, and it can be very handy for things like guessing how various rival or cooperative

groups might act for things like interstellar colonization or space warfare.

There's also a Nash Equilibrium, sometimes more than one, where you pursue a strategy

that insulates you from the effects of the decisions of the others.

A wise choice when you can't know or influence the other players' strategy.

Obviously if those two prisoners could talk they could strike a bargain or coerce each

other or they might be genuine friends, there's at least some implied trust if you're willing

to rob a bank with someone after all.

But this general inability to know what the other person is doing, due to lack of communication

or deep knowledge of them, is very handy over interstellar distances, when you have all

that light lag making it hard to talk or get up to date information about the other player's

motivations and goals.

Even more so when we're discussing possible alien civilizations you've never even met

to realize how different their thinking is.

You know they know math and you know they will assume you know math too, so approaching

them via Game Theory or other mathematical approaches for decision making is better than

just making wild guesses about behavior, a conclusion you'd expect them to draw too.

This is not the flaw in the Dark Forest Theory, one always wants to be careful applying game

theory but it's a better approach than most options.

So, here is the basics of the Dark Forest argument.

We assume that all life wants to survive, regardless of whether or not it will do anything

to survive, they care about their own existence more than other civilizations.

This is debatable as an absolute, you might get exceptions, but in general it's a decent

assumption.

So we have a rational self-interest in survival and assume everybody else does too.

We're mostly good so far but that survival imperative is already a small hole in the

concept, a species might have some suicidal or suicidally brave inclinations and we're

potentially talking about many civilizations, each composed of many diverse groups and individuals.

We'll come back to that later.

Second, if you're new to space travel and haven't met or learned about other civilizations,

you have no way of knowing if they're hostile or not, nor any obvious way to determine or

influence that without making yourself known.

They may want to annihilate you.

This gives us our Prisoner's Dilemma equivalent, two or more species not knowing of each other's

motives or goals do not know if those are hostile or not, but they want to live.

If they stay quiet and hidden, they are exposed to less risk than if they speak up and say

hi.

Furthermore, if they attack any civilization they detect when it first emerges, they can

wipe them out before they pose a possible threat, why gamble on possible peaceful co-existence

that might down the road result in them gaining the edge and trying to wipe you out when you

can just kill them now while you have an overwhelming edge?

This same line of reasoning is often applied to newly woken artificial intelligences attacking

humanity too.

If you can ensure victory and a total wipe out of the potential enemy now, then you should,

since even a fairly remote chance of them attacking you later is still higher than the

zero risk you have by attacking now.

Thus implying the galaxy is full of quiet hiding and genocidal civilizations, or their

potential victims, as anyone who pursues a different strategy gets killed.

We get the Dark Forest name from the following passage in the novel:

"The universe is a dark forest.

Every civilization is an armed hunter stalking through the trees like a ghost, gently pushing

aside branches that block the path and trying to tread without sound.

Even breathing is done with care.

The hunter has to be careful, because everywhere in the forest are stealthy hunters like him.

If he finds another life—another hunter, angel, or a demon, a delicate infant or tottering

old man, a fairy or demigod—there's only one thing he can do: open fire and eliminate

them."

To make things a bit grimmer, Dark Forest assumes humanity is already screwed because

we've made ourselves known by radio broadcasts.

So what's the flaw of this theory?

First of course it does violate non-exclusivity, in a few ways.

As a reminder Non-Exclusivity in our discussions of the Fermi Paradox has to do with any behavior

or condition we can assume applies to all or virtually all the spacefaring alien civilizations.

Knowing basic math and science would be a good example of an Exclusive case, hard to

build rocket ships without math and science, so we'd expect spaceships to be the exclusive

domain of species with math and science.

Alternatively we can't assume every civilization would be capitalist or communist, democratic

or totalitarian or oligarchic, like ice cream or coffee, and so on.

Something like a desire for survival is a good bet for a civilization as a whole, but

can't be extrapolated to perpetual silence since it only takes one person to ignore that

prohibition, and furthermore they'll know of that vulnerability and the virtual impossibility

of enforcing a total silence, and they'll know every other civilization will have considered

the same issue.

You can not guarantee silence over a long time, so why pursue a strategy guaranteed

to fail?

The other aspect is that while we can rarely label advanced civilizations as being exclusive

to a certain behavior, one of the most common behaviors is likely to be a value for cooperation.

By default rational self-interest is only caring about yourself, that's a rare trait

in social critters and one that makes producing an advanced civilization very difficult since

those rely on cooperation and specialization.

It should be fairly normal, when the leaders of some civilization are contemplating new

neighbors in the Dark Forest, for someone to suggest a potential alliance or their value

for trade, because it should be rather abnormal for civilizations to ever develop that don't

engage in such behaviors already.

It's assuming civilizations will see no value for peaceful co-existence and not factor

it into their decision making.

It's also assuming attacking another civilization carries no risks or costs either.

So Dark Forest is already a bit shaky just from all that, but the real flaw is that hiding

is not an option, it wasn't an option even before you sent out your first radio broadcasts,

because all of this logic is based on the assumption that there are intelligent and

potentially homicidal older civilizations able to move around the galaxy and only works

if we assume those older civilizations are utter morons.

This is the big flaw, because if humanity was the first on the galactic stage and had

spaceflight and genocidal intent, it would already be game over for any other potential

civilization that was behind us by more than the time it takes for light to travel from

our world to theirs.

First off, while hiding is a good strategy if you can pull it off, you can't pull it

off, you can't hide your planet backwards in time and if I'm a high tech civilization

with spaceflight and automation, I can get away with building huge megatelescopes or

even just sending probes to do flybys of every single star in the galaxy to find any planet

that might even have a hint of life and I can ram those probes right into the planet

if they pick those signals up.

If a civilization wants to, it can make a probe weighing, saying, 100 tons, equivalent

to a heavily loaded freight vehicle, it can then use pushing lasers to get it up to say

87% of light speed, where it now has a kinetic energy equals to its mass energy.

This what we call a relativistic kill missile, and in this case one which would have about

10^22 joules of damage potential, or the equivalent destructive force of a couple million megaton

nukes, hundreds of times the peak firepower during the Cold War.

I can send that probe toward the habitable zone of a known star and give it just enough

sensors and fuel to pick up any planet as it approaches and course correct to ram it.

I can also have it fragment beforehand to arrive in bits scattered over that planet's

day so the whole surface gets shotgunned.

And of course it's picking up detailed data of the before and after as it does this.

If I make a trillion of these, one for every star in the galaxy with spares for redundancy,

I would have used up 100 trillion tons of mass, 10^17 kilograms, the mass of a single

modestly large asteroid, the kind we have so many of in our solar system that most don't

even have names, just numbers, if even that.

Of course to accelerate them all to that speed would take a lot of juice, 10^34 joules, but

that's less than a year of the Sun's output and you hardly need to rush, a few years won't

make a difference.

In fact you could send them all out at different times and speeds so they all impacted across

the galaxy at about the same moment.

Needless to say you can go bigger if you want and you can also do periodic follow up strikes,

especially since you'll be able to narrow down your targets after that first wave gives

you a very accurate map.

Sterilizing an entire galaxy is possible through any number of methods, many of which don't

even require you to send anybody out to do it.

Of course the better strategy is just to colonize all those worlds instead of ramming them,

since it means if you ever bump into someone else in your weight class you have all those

worlds to supply resources from and to absorb damage, not just one vulnerable home system.

So there's the flaw, your leadership is deciding whether to be silent or not, or attack

anyone they meet or not, and one of your generals or scientists is going to point out that silence

isn't a valid strategy, because you're already visible to anyone who has the capacity

to kill you at the moment.

You can't hide, so instead you should pursue a policy of getting bigger, should a threat

emerge later, and that you should be gathering intel and opening up diplomatic channels because

it has no downsides.

You really have to stretch belief to assume an otherwise peaceful species is going to

go genocidal because you colonized other planets when they have not even told you that they

don't want you to, if they're attacking over something like that or a diplomatic blunder,

and with full escalation to genocide, than that was probably always their intent so there's

no reason to alter your own strategy.

But they probably would have gotten themselves killed off for acting that way, or be worried

about it, since if we're assuming one other advanced civilization is near us, we have

to assume many others are fairly close too and might see what you're doing and disapprove,

since they obviously don't espouse that approach themselves or they'd have carried

it out and you wouldn't be around to do it.

And the keywords there are advanced civilizations, such things should generally not arise without

a modest understanding of cooperation, diplomacy, alliances, reciprocity, deterrence, and so

on, same as we have, since it's hard to build a civilization without those.

And that's a good final point, 'same as we have', because fundamentally if Dark

Forest worked, we should see it in play on Earth, and we don't, I'm not familiar

with any civilization or species that's pursued this sort of strategy in our own forests.

The galaxy may be a dark forest, but it's not very likely there are predators stalking

its shadows, because fundamentally if there were, they'd already have jumped out

and eaten us by now.

Human, Do Not Produce Memes | Dark Souls 2 (part 26) - Duration: 16:23.

Okay

Let's see if I can find this bonfire

Which would be nice

Because I hope there's another bonfire

Between me and a frigging boss fight

"Undead Crypt"

It's interesting how they do

Kind of the opposite of Dark Souls

In that they would-

Oh wonderful, bonfire!

In that they would do the linear part

At the end instead

But...

I mean, they did it on purpose

They knew what they were doing

Just seems an odd choice to me

"Do you wanna chat?"

Um, sure

You can actually add me on Skype

And we can do the same thing

That Jordanix1871 and I were doing

If you're comfortable being live and vocal on the stream

I mean, I don't know if you wanted to add me on Xbox

Well actually, you have me on Xbox, but...

We could chat there

But I find the quality is significantly lower

Oh, Jesus!

Fucking Pursuers

Fuck you guys!

Oh

"Do not produce light"

Heh, creepy

Okay

I... don't really know why, but...

...this dude just hates light

"Dark required ahead"

Are you gonna talk, or are you just gonna...?

(chuckles) Okay

Well I'm curious now

"Guardian of the crypt"

Can you hear yourself on the stream?

Yeah

You're coming in clearer than on Skype, anyway

Ooh

Yep

Sounds good

Oh Jesus Christ

Fucking...

I hate this area

Mhm

Yeah

I don't think you'll come through on the stream

Which is a shame, but...

...that's okay

Mhm

Yeah

I actually have two

I have...

My webcam came with a mic

Which actually picks up the entire room

And that's what Jordanix1871 could hear me talking on

And then I'm using a kind of pro recording mic

Yeah, there we go

Oh, god damn it!

It's funny because the equipment for this stream

Is just kind of randomly built

Out of equipment we already had

Except for the...

...the capture cards

Those I bought specifically

But the mic, and the headsets...

...and the second monitor that I'm using for chat...

...that's all stuff we had lying around

Yeah

Um

I might actually try something in a second here

Whenever I get a quiet moment

I can actually get-

Oh, Jesus Christ

Where the fuck did you come from?

NOPE

You're a very powerful pyromancer!

Not interested!

Yeah

Well I saw and item and went for it, but...

Get the fuck down here

Yeah

When I get a second, I'll actually try...

...I'll see if I can...

...get the Xbox Live chat

To play out of my TV

And that should actually feed back through

Into the stream

Should

I really don't want to just cut everything short here

Jesus Christ

This area is crazy

Oh, and I'm getting invaded

Fantastic

This might actually be an NPC

I don't know

Say that again?

You're cutting out

Yep

Yeah

I actually can't watch my stream and play it

At the same time

Because it uses twice the internet connection

Upload and download

Oh these guys got me in a corner

And they're just fucking feeding it to me

Yeah

I find I get fewer [viewers] because I'm not quite so...

...loud

I get fewer followers watching

I don't know

This is the kind of stream

That I personally prefer to watch, so...

Oh Christ

I see a fog door

But I would really like a bonfire first

Nope, just fell off the edge instead

Okay

So this is where I died last time

That's a... bridge

That hopefully brings me to a bonfire

I'm in here

But I don't know where 'here' is

Okay, here...

...looks like the bonfire I was at before

Which is good

Lord_of_cinder28: I'm like, "Yeah, I built my own PC"

Lord_of_cinder28: "I once put two bricks together and they caught fire"

(chuckling) Yeah

Lord_of_cinder28: Does that count?

Well they say that's pretty much what a PS4 is

Is just two PCs taped together

Lord_of_cinder28: Two overheat bricks

Pretty much

Lord_of_cinder28: I mean, I got an Xbox One

Lord_of_cinder28: My friend likes to...

(indecipherable over game sounds)

Nice!

I probably will not buy an Xbox One

I don't see any titles for it yet that...

...I'm particularly interested in

I doubt I'm gonna get through this door

Jesus Christ

Those fucking knights

Okay

So let's do this right way instead

Lord_of_cinder28: So under the stairs you went down...

(indecipherable under game sounds)

Lord_of_cinder28: ...under there

Lord_of_cinder28: There's a guy and you gotta kill him

Okay

Yeah, those mages are taking me apart

Lord_of_cinder28: There's a guy under the stairs there

Lord_of_cinder28: And you can kill him

Lord_of_cinder28: He'll stop ringing the bell

Lord_of_cinder28: And those mages don't show up

Gotcha

That's funny

Oh, I can hit it too

Wonderful

Lord_of_cinder28: What people will do

Lord_of_cinder28: Is they'll troll people a lot

(laughs)

Lord_of_cinder28: And they'll invade them and just

Lord_of_cinder28: Stand in behind and hit the bell

That's rude as hell

Lord_of_cinder28: That's like a long time ago

Lord_of_cinder28: I would only invade there

Lord_of_cinder28: Start at the bonfire and just sprint and run

Lord_of_cinder28: And just ring the bell

Lord_of_cinder28: So they had to fight... an abundant amount of them

Good for leveling, though

Lord_of_cinder28: It's really good for leveling!

Yeah

Lord_of_cinder28: But they're annoying

Ehh, 900 souls apiece

Alright let's kite some of these knights out

Or something

Lord_of_cinder28: I just hate how every single one of them

Lord_of_cinder28: Shoot pyromancy when they're stabbed

Lord_of_cinder28: When you're like, "Why can he do that and I can't?"

Yeah

Lord_of_cinder28: I'm gonna say, um...

Lord_of_cinder28: The boss after this one in the fog gate

Lord_of_cinder28: Like, you kill the one in the fog gate

Lord_of_cinder28: And an optional boss comes up

Okay

Lord_of_cinder28: Whenever you get to the optional boss

Lord_of_cinder28: Try to kill him

Lord_of_cinder28: Depending on how much Estus you have

Because next time you see him

Lord_of_cinder28: He'll have five times as much attack and defense

Lord_of_cinder28: As much has he has now

Okay

That seems a little odd

Lord_of_cinder28: You really just wanna try your hand

Lord_of_cinder28: At fighting him first off

Yeah, for sure

Lord_of_cinder28: See what you can get

That's good advice

I see my rolling is really doing a lot

(tired sigh)

Yeah

I might end up coming back here

And farming this entire hallway

Until it's gone

Because this is insane

Lord_of_cinder28: Mmm

Lord_of_cinder28: Do you want help with this boss?

Lord_of_cinder28: Or... it seems you're all out of Estus

Yeah, I have none left

But, I dunno

I got Lifegems

I'll give it a shot, anyway

And if I don't beat him this time...

...I imagine I'll come back and just farm this hallway

Until it's done

Because I'm not doing that every time

There's no way I'm gonna do that

Every time I'm gonna fight this boss

Lord_of_cinder28: If you kill the dudes...

(mic cutting in and out)

Lord_of_cinder28: ...between all of them

Yeah

Lord_of_cinder28: This boss...

(mic cutting in and out)

Yeah

I should have Human Effigy'd before I came in

Fuck sakes

(mic cutting in and out)

(mic cutting in and out

He's just taking me apart

Lord_of_cinder28: He's a pretty difficult boss

Lord_of_cinder28: He's technically one of the ending bosses

Lord_of_cinder28: Seeing as after him, there's like...

Lord_of_cinder28: ...four points you *have* to fight a boss

Yeah

Lord_of_cinder28: There's a LOT of optional bosses

Lord_of_cinder28: Like, ah... the Painted World boss?

Yeah

No, he just completely fucking murdered me

Um...

Lord_of_cinder28: So far, let me see, there's like...

Lord_of_cinder28: ...six optional bosses?

Yeah, Lifegems are definitely not the way

To do that fight

And I should have gone in Human Effigy'd

I also went in with a broken weapon, so...

Yeah

He completely fucking took me apart

Lord_of_cinder28: Ooh!

Lord_of_cinder28: There's a weapon you can get...

Lord_of_cinder28: ...from one of the bosses

Lord_of_cinder28: It's kind of like Artorias' sword

Lord_of_cinder28: But the more souls you have on it

Lord_of_cinder28: The more damage it does

Oh, my souls are in that room...

Shit

I'm gonna go get those back, then

INTERESTING

I didn't expect to be able to do that!

Lord_of_cinder28: Actually, one of the DLC's in this

Lord_of_cinder28: Actually added Artorias' sword

Yeah

Lord_of_cinder28: Love that thing

He hits me every time he moves his weapon!

It's like...

...he swings a little slower than what I'm used to

So...

...I'm dodging early every time

Lord_of_cinder28: You can actually parry him

Lord_of_cinder28: Yeah, you can actually parry this entire fight

Lord_of_cinder28: It's kind of funny

(laughs) Okay

That is kind of funny

Lord_of_cinder28: When he's swinging, like

Lord_of_cinder28: A full overhead, gonna-smash-you-in-the-face swing

Lord_of_cinder28: Into a little Buckler

Lord_of_cinder28: Sending shots away

Lord_of_cinder28: And he'll be pulling back, all dramatic

Lord_of_cinder28: Like a cap shooter into a little shield

Yeah

Um, Jordanix1871 actually...

Lord_of_cinder28: Like how strong would you have to be...

...Jordanix1871 recommended that I fight The Pursuer

With parry

And I tried, and he took me apart

For as long as I was trying to parry

And then I just... went back to my way of playing

And I was fine

So I don't think I'll try to parry him

Just because of...

...how much it'll do

If I do that

Lord_of_cinder28: I've only parried The Pursuer...

(indecipherable over game sounds)

Lord_of_cinder28: Oh no!

Yeah

I tried to Human Effigy

But it didn't work

(laughs) Oh fuck!

I can't back away from him at all

If I want to heal, I have to dodge

A couple of his attacks

And then I have to...

...heal while standing right next to him

If you try to get away from him

He's one of those guys that...

...he has an infinite sword reach

So it doesn't matter how far you back away

Lord_of_cinder28: Well, wait until you fight his brother

Lord_of_cinder28: He's regarded as the hardest Dark Souls boss ever

Yeah

Nobody's Home | Dark Souls 2 (part 27) - Duration: 10:43.

Alright, let's get started!

So the first thing I'm gonna do with this stream

Is go to the Undead Crypt and fight Velstadt

I cleared out the hallway...

...just before his fight

So it'll be a little easier to get to him

And got a couple levels out of that

He wiped the floor with me last time

I've only actually tried him twice

It was a long time

And a lot of unnecessary effort

To clear out that hallway

Every boss fight

So...

...I just killed everyone there

Got some new armor, courtesy of Lord_of_cinder28

And if I can actually manage to beat this guy

I'll probably use the souls that I get from him

To level up this armor

Let's see...

Yeah, that looks about right

I'm at level 142 right now

Soul level 1.89mil

So let's give it a shot

Come on, big guy

He's a little slower than what I expect

A Dark Souls boss to be like

I end up rolling too soon

For most of his swings

Which usually...

...means I get hit by almost every one

He's got a nice wind-up on him

And I should have Human Effigy'd before coming in

But I'm dumb and forgetful, so...

Go figure

Yeah, that's me...

...rolling to early again

Okay

I'm not doing nearly as much damage

As I would like to be doing, but...

...I think he's one of the kind of Elite Knight bosses

Where you're expected to...

...not do a ton of damage anyway

I'm not brave enough to try and get

A Human Effigy in

Because the last time I tried that

He cleaned the floor with me

Ahh fuck

Nope

Still doing a little better this fight than...

...the other two times that I tried him

Which are actually on the previous recorded stream

I like to stay at the top of my health, if I can

But he's not making that terribly easy

Geez, he's not even halfway dead yet

Oh fuck

What are you doing?

I don't like that

Stop that!

Are you HEALING!?

What the fuck are you doing!?

Oh SHIT he fucking buffed himself...

(irritated sigh) Ohhh well...

How long will it take to out-wait that, I wonder

WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW!?

Sto-

FUCK

Ohh Jesus Christ

He hits hard now

Yeeaahh

Welp

This time I'll know what he's doing

When he takes a knee

I was expecting a massive, explosive

Area-of-effect attack

Oh geez

Come on, man

I also assume he's gonna knock all these pillars down

Which would actually be nice

Because I don't want to end up

Rolling into one

Fuck

Okay, that's...

Take it easy, now!

Take it easy!

My problem is I try to get

Too many swings in

Yeah, there he goes

Alright

So can I stop this from happening?

Or do I just take a nice chunk out of his health?

Doesn't look like I can stop it...

Fucker

Oh, sweet

NO!

He's got no shortage of health

That's for sure

Okay

If I can only get one swing in

Every time I dodge

Or... get hit in the face twice

I learned that running from him to try to heal

Is a bad idea

Because the reach on that thing is incredible

And he has a ranged attack now

Not so bad if you stay really close to him

But you gotta watch out for when he swings...

...wider than 180°

And he does

(laughs) That was like 360°

And when wanna heal, you wanna try and...

...be right beside him

Alright, come on

Get back in the swing of it

One hit per dodge

That's all I want

And to preferably not get smoked in the face

This is the point when he would ABSOLUTELY love to kill me

(exasperated) That fucking buff still hasn't faded

Rude as hell

Oho, okay

He was winding up for another swing

And now, if I'm not mistaken

I get to fight his brother

[nope, not until the second DLC]

60,000 souls

Is it immediate that I fight him?

Or can I go use these...?

I'm gonna...

I don't know

I was told that I get one chance to fight him

At a normal, sane amount of health

Okay, I'm gonna try it, just because...

...I don't wanna lose this chance

Is that him?

He doesn't even see me

Is that the Fume Knight? No...

I don't know, but I'm taking your shit

Niiice!

"The King's Ring"

Okay

(laughs) Bunch of frigging blood all over the floor

(nervous grunting)

Alright, let's...

Okay

Do you even...

Hello??

Um...

What are you doing?

Are you gonna fight me?

You don't even have a health bar

What the fuck?

He's got a... crown...?

And a big ol' sword

Hey!

Okay

I have a feeling this isn't the guy

That I fight

That's just weird

I took his ring... he didn't really seem to care

Hmm

No reaction whatsoever

That's the weirdest thing

Especially with all these bloodstains all over the floor

Yeah, these guys are...

...fighting something down here

And then they get killed...

This guy, he's ignoring me completely

Ooh maybe if I put the King's Ring on

He'll get super pissed

Let's try that

Because I can't think of anything else

Ring of Binding I need

Ring of Chloranthy I need

[Ring of] Steel Protection I would like

This one I don't need so much

Where is the King's Ring?

There it is

(taunting) I have your ring!

Nothing?

Well that's disappointing

(defeated sigh) Fine

But I can open the King's Gate

I have the King's Key and the King's Ring

Hmm

I'm sure I'm missing something, but...

Whatever, I'll leave it

Fight him at full strength

Whenever I find him

See ya later, buddy

Best of luck with... whatever the hell you're doing

Sup?

I assume he's still not interested it me...?

No

Weird

Alright

I'll run with it

And that's why it's so important to put all the social content you have created into one

place where it's accessible for Google but also for users so they can share it back to

dark social.

And that's why I want to show you in the next 10 minutes how to set up a social content
