Audeze LCD-2 Classic - Is it better than the LCD-2? (Danish, subtitled) - Duration: 5:28.

Welcome. Today we'll be talking about headphones, one of my favorite product categories...

.. headphones.

Specifically we'll take a look at these..

the..

LCD-2 Classic from Audeze.

This is the current version of the Audeze LCD-2.

I use the word 'current', as since it was launched back in 2010..

.. there's been a few significant changes to this model.

Most changes were smaller tweaks like making..

.. these connectors in plastic instead of wood.

But the biggest revision was back in 2014 (or '15, who knows?)...

.. when Audeze implemented the Fazor Elements in the LCD-2.

Inside the cup of the LCD-2, there's a very thin diaphragm..

.. that covers almost all of this.

On each side of the diaphragm are magnets..

.. and on top of the magnets there's the Fazor Elements.

The Fazor Elements help to improve resolution and definition..

.. especially in the upper register.

Because Audeze went back to the original 2010 LCD-2 design..

.. this also lacks the Fazor Elements.

And it's audible. It affects the audio..

.. not in a massive way, but once in a while it just lacks a bit of soundstage.

On poorly mastered or extremly complex recordings, this might even be a good thing..

.. because it's not quite as analytical as the LCD-2.

Design and construction differs quite a bit when comparing the LCD-2's.

LCD-2 has wooden cups and LCD-2 Classic's are made from..

.. crystal infused nylon.

It's basically just a type of plastic but it feels extremely solid and at first look..

.. I thought it might've been some type of aluminum material.

One other thing is the headband.

The headband on the LCD-2 is one single construction with a leather clad metal band.

On the LCD-2 Classic it's quite different.

Here we have a metal band that braces the entire construction and a separate head band the rests on top of your head.

It does make it quite a bit more comfortable compared to the LCD-2 when used over longer periods of time.

I had the pleasure of auditioning these two headphones over 3-4 hours yesterday..

.. using a wide range of music, both in terms of genres and quality.

Uhm..

My experience is that..

.. the LCD-2 is an extremely good headphone.

It just isn't as good as the LCD-2.

It just lacks a bit of definition. It's hard to put a number on it..

.. but I would say that it's lacking 4-5% in resolution and transparency in the upper register and the upper mid-range.

This has to be attributed to the lack of Fazor Elements in this headphone.

In many ways however, the LCD-2 Classic is a more forgiving headphone.

Poorly produced or dynamically compressed tracks..

.. are not quite harsh on the LCD-2 Classic as compared to the LCD-2.

These two headphones are very much alike...

.. and if I was to purchase either one today..

.. I probably would've gone with the LCD-2 Classic.

One is the construction of the head band.

As I mentioned earlier, this is quite a bit more comfortable than the old design..

.. which is of course attributable to the constrution..

.. that separates the bracing part of the head band..

.. and the perforated leather part.

The other reason is quite obvious.

The LCD-2 is 10.000 DKK..

.. and the LCD-2 Classic is 6.500 DKK.

So there's a significant amount of money saved..

.. and you still get, let's say, 95% of the performance.

Another thing you won't be getting with..

.. the purchase of the LCD-2 Classic is large travel case.

For me personally, that doesn't make a difference.

I won't be traveling anywhere with my LCD-2's.

We have the LCD-2 Classic on demo at the store, and you're more than welcome to come and by and have a listen.

If you have a headphone amplifier you want to bring..

.. that's of course also an option.

If you don't, we'll make sure that we get you set up with the right equipment..

.. for listening under the best possible conditions.

We also carry other Audeze models like the EL-8 and Sine-series..

.. the iSine 10 and 20 and we have the LCD-MX4 high-end model.

It's about 5 times as expensive as the LCD-2 Classic but it's also in a whole other league.
