U.S. and Cuba enter negotiations for the first time since 1961 - 3/24/1977 - Duration: 0:57.

- Today in military history, 1977,

the United States and Cuba engage in direct negotiations

for the first time since 1961.

During the escalation of the Cold War in the 50s and 60s,

tension between Cuba and the US reached a breaking point.

In 1961, President John F. Kennedy severed

diplomatic relations with communist leader Fidel Castro.

When President Jimmy Carter took office in 1977,

he was prepared to reopen communication with Cuba.

On March 24, 1977, negotiators from both countries,

met to discuss fishing rights.

In the following months, the Cold War enemies

were able to reach common ground,

including the release of prisoners,

and the ease of travel restrictions.

But by 1980, animosity resurged,

and the relationship disintegrated.

It wasn't until 2015 when the formal relationship

was tenuously restored and the embassies

in both countries were reopened.

US destroyer INTERCEPTED by two Chinese warships in 'serious provocation' - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 3:12.

US destroyer INTERCEPTED by two Chinese warships in 'serious provocation'

THE US Navy has been accused of a "serous military provocation" after sailing close

to Chinese-claimed territory "without authorisation".

The USS Mustin, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, has infuriated China by

sailing within 12 nautical miles of an artificial island in the South China Sea.

Two Chinese frigates "took immediate action" and "warned off and dispelled" the USS

Mustin, according to China's defence ministry.

Bristling with Tomahawk missiles, the destroyer sailed past Mischief Reef in the Spratly Islands

while carrying out a "freedom of navigation" mission.

The People's Liberation Army Navy is today holding war drills in the region in an apparent

show of force aimed at intimidating the US.

China has been building military islands and staking claims to territory in the South China

Sea – a highly contested expanse of water.

In a statement, China's defence ministry accused the US of a "serious political and

military provocation against China".

"The Chinese military is firmly opposed to it," the Chinese Ministry of Defence

added.

"China holds indisputable sovereignty over the islands and their surrounding waters in

the South China Sea," Ren Guoqiang, defence ministry spokesman, said on Friday.

"By repeatedly sending military ships into these areas without authorisation, the US

has seriously harmed Chinese sovereignty and security, violated basic rules of international

relations, and harmed regional peace and stability."

The US Navy operation has "damaged the atmosphere of military-to-military relations" between

Washington and Beijing, he added.

US Navy patrols of the South China Sea aimed at contesting China's territorial expansionism

are commonplace despite the of disapproval of the PLP.

Nicole Schwegman, a spokeswoman for the US Pacific Fleet, has confirmed that the USS

Mustin sailed close to Mischief Reef.

"All operations are designed in accordance with international law and demonstrate that

the United States will fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows," she

told CNN.

A bitter territorial feud between China and several southeast Asian countries has given

rise to simmering military tensions in the region in recent years.

In January, China vowed to take "necessary measures" to protect its sovereignty after

a US Navy destroyer sailed near disputed territory claimed by Beijing.

Republican Congresswoman Says "Deep State" Ordered The $31,000 Dining Set To Harm Ben Carson - Duration: 3:59.

Republican representative Claudia Tenney appeared on Talk of The Town recently, where she told

the host of that show that it was in fact the deep state that ordered that $31,000 dining

set for HUD secretary Ben Carson, and they did it because they want to make Ben Carson

and the Trump Administration look wasteful and foolish, and stupid.

What's funny about Claudia Tenney's statement here is that one, it came out after it was

already revealed that it was Ben Carson's wife who ordered this dining set, but two,

the fact that now this whole deep state conspiracy that morons across this country are pushing

has now gotten so out of hand, that Republicans will blame the deep state for anything.

That's their standard talking point now, and that's why I cringe anytime I hear somebody

say the phrase deep state.

Let me go ahead and put it this way.

If I hear you say, 'deep state,' I automatically assume that you have no idea what you're talking

about and you're just making shit up because almost all the time, that's what happens.

People use the deep state as a scapegoat.

You don't actually have to understand the issues.

You don't have to talk about it intelligibly, you just say Deep State and that ends it.

"It's the deep state.

It's the deep state doing this.

It's the deep state."

No, that's what people who aren't very smart do.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and say that Representative Claudia Tenney probably not the brightest

bulb there is.

But the other thing that's interesting about this story, about Ben Carson is the fact that

this guy had to testify this week about the dining set.

Instead of trying to be like, "Yeah, I did it.

I'm sorry.

It's bad."

The wife threw his wife under the bus.

He said, "I checked with her and she had ordered this thing, and I wasn't happy about it."

Dude, not only do people in this country already dislike you because you're wasting tax dollars,

but now you put your marriage in jeopardy by going in front of Congress and saying,

"She did it.

I had nothing to do with it.

It was her.

I wasn't there.

I don't know what a dining set is."

You could of at least done the honorable thing and said, "My wife and I picked it out and

we apologize.

We're sending it back, we're not going to use it."

Instead, you decided to do the cowardly thing and try to blame your wife for what's happening

in your department.

Your wife shouldn't even be making any decisions.

She is not a government official, you moron, but that's besides the point.

The thing is, Republicans across the country are absolutely losing their minds.

They're either throwing their wives under the bus or they're trying to blame every horrible

thing that's happening to their party on the deep state.

Yeah, intelligence agencies in the United States have done some scary, shady, disgusting,

and illegal things, but that doesn't mean that there is a secret cabal of them calling

the shots throughout this country.

If you believe that, I think you seriously need to go seek some kind of help, maybe talk

to some people, because that's just not how it goes.

Intelligence agencies do some gross things, but buying China set for the Secretary of

Housing and Urban Development, just to make them look bad, isn't one

of them.

BREAKING: DEADLY Terror Attack At US Air Force Base – Here's Who's Behind It! - Duration: 4:38.

BREAKING: DEADLY Terror Attack At US Air Force Base – Here's Who's Behind It!

A massive explosion at a US Air Force Base has forced a lockdown order and the deadly

fire was not a coincidence or accident.

Authorities are still investigating at this time but already know who is behind the intentional

blast that has left one dead.

Military bases have become frequent targets of attack over the last year, with many seeming

attempts or strange circumstances thwarted.

However, this time the plan was enacted and it's not over yet.

Police are calling the attack at Travis Air Force Base in Northern California an act of

terrorism.

Here's what we know now from this ambush which employed a particularly concerning tactic.

CBS San Francisco reports:

A driver breached the main security gate at Travis Air Force base Wednesday evening and

then crashed and died when his vehicle exploded into a massive fireball.

Investigators are treating the incident as an act of terrorism.

Law enforcement sources said the vehicle carried propane tanks which the driver deliberately

ignited after crashing through the security gate.

The car drove off the road into a ditch and the driver died in the fire.

The driver has been identified by law enforcement but has not been named, according to CBS News

reporter John Blackstone.

No shots were fired.

The FBI is joining the Air Force in the investigation of the security breach.

In short snapchat video clips posted of the incident on the Air Force Forum Facebook,

the SUV bust into flames as military police raced toward the vehicle.Thankfully, all 7,000

military personnel on the base are safe following the deliberate attack and the only fatality

is the person responsible, which is an interesting twist of karma.

Travis AFB officials explain that the driver managed to gain "unauthorized access"

to the front gate on Wednesday at approximately 7:00 p.m.

"The safety and welfare of our Airmen, their families and our local community is our top

priority," said Col. John Klein, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander.

"I am extremely proud of how our first responders quickly addressed the situation to keep Travis

and the surrounding area out of harm's way.

We are fortunate to have enduring relationships with federal and local law enforcement, and

will continue to work hand-in-hand with them through the investigation process."

"The investigation is ongoing and there are no current known threats to the base or

community," the base said.

" The main gate has reopened and all other facilities are operating as normal."

What's of particular note is that this incident happened on Wednesday yet reports didn't

surface until Friday.

Some outlets, specifically CNN who reported on the attack today explained the situation

far different than others.

They didn't mention that authorities are considering this an act of terrorism at this

time and only referred to the assailant as "the driver" without implying any criminal

activity despite the obvious details of what happened, which they also failed to mention,

perhaps intentionally.

Ignoring the reality of what this only breeds ignorance among people who have a false sense

of safety.

Military bases across America have had a strange series of activities recently.

We reported that these seemed like trial runs for something bigger or to test the strength

of security and exploit loopholes.

With this recent attack taking place today, it seems those concerns are starting to come

to fruition.

Thankfully, we have a president who genuinely loves and respects our military and is constantly

doing all he can to protect them and provide them with what they need.

His reaction to this incident will be far different than his predecessor whose disdain

for our heroes was evident in everything he did.

The world is a dangerous place as it is, but when you add in the constant threat of terrorist

attacks to the mix it only gets worse.

Our brave military men and women are thrust daily into the front lines to fight these

evil terrorists in order to protect the country from ISIS.

Even though many of these terrorists are killed overseas there are some that make their way

into other parts of the world.

BREAKING Trump Unleashes Brutal Surprise On United Nations "We Simply Cannot… - Duration: 33:12.

BREAKING: Trump Unleashes Brutal Surprise On United Nations: "We Simply Cannot…

Another win for the America First crowd!

Under Barack Obama, America was steadily becoming a slave to globalism.

Pacts like the Paris Climate Accord required the U.S. to submit to rules crafted by outsiders.

Every America would be forced to follow rules we had no say in.

The accord was not brought to the America people.

Congress wasn't allowed to vote.

It was tyranny, plain and simple.

But that was only one move by Obama to force globalism onto America.

He pushed the country to agree to ridiculous rules from the U.N.

Again, not rules decided by Congress or the American people.

Rules crafted by bureaucrats from other countries.

Of course, the rules dictated America's policy on immigration.

From CNN:

The United States notified the United Nations that it will no longer take part in the global

compact on migration, saying it undermines the nation's sovereignty.

The US has been a part of the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants since it was formed

last year.

The declaration aims to ensure the rights of migrants, help them resettle and provide

them with access to education and jobs.

It calls for the negotiation of a global compact on migration, which is expected to be adopted

next year.

"While we will continue to engage on a number of fronts at the United Nations," Secretary

of State Rex Tillerson said in a statement Sunday, "in this case, we simply cannot

in good faith support a process that could undermine the sovereign right of the United

States to enforce our immigration laws and secure our borders."

The US supports "international cooperation on migration issues," the statement added,

"but it is the primary responsibility of sovereign states to help ensure that migration

is safe, orderly, and legal."

In explaining its withdrawal Saturday, the US said the pact contains provisions that

are inconsistent with the nation's immigration policies.

While the US is proud of its leadership on migration and refugee issues, the global approach

is not compatible with the nation's sovereignty, according to Nikki Haley, the US ambassador

to the UN.

CNN and other liberal outlets make this seem like a drastic measure.

Keep in mind the "compact" was formed last year.

It was hardly a pillar of the United Nations.

This compact was a scheme to force the United States and other nations to accept refugees

and other migrants.

It would force us to face the crisis Europe is enduring.

Millions of strangers would flood our country, all because George Soros or some other globalist

says so.

Our migrant policy should be decided by our leaders, plain and simple.

Those leaders—members of Congress—answer to the American people.

If we don't like the laws they write, we can vote them out.

We can't do that with members of the U.N.

We might not even know who is writing these rules!

It was necessary to pull the U.S. from this compact.

Our policies must reflect our values and concerns.

We cannot allow rogue nations, corrupt bureaucrats, and foreign interests to control

our country.

Trump pick John Bolton has history of clashing with U.S. intelligence community - Duration: 8:53.

JUDY WOODRUFF: The revolving door at the Trump White House has turned again.

This time, it ushered in President Trump's third national security adviser in 14 months,

the latest addition to a hawkish new lineup.

The president left the White House late this afternoon for a weekend in Florida, with nothing

more to say about the latest shakeup in his national security team.

As of April 9, H.R. McMaster is out as national security adviser.

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton is in.

JOHN BOLTON, Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations: It's always an honor to serve

our country, and I think particularly in these times internationally, it's a particular honor.

So I'm still sort of getting used to it.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Bolton becomes the third person in the post since President Trump took office.

The first choice, Michael Flynn, resigned just over three weeks after the inauguration

over revelations that he had lied about his contacts with the Russian ambassador.

Army Lieutenant General McMaster took over, but clashed with the president, who reportedly

complained about being lectured to in lengthy briefings.

McMaster even drew a public presidential rebuke last month, after he said there was incontrovertible

proof that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.

Still, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders insisted only a week ago that he wasn't going

anywhere.

SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, White House Press Secretary: General McMaster is a dedicated

public servant, and he is here, not focused on the news stories that many of you are writing,

but on some really big issues, things like North Korea, things like Russia, things like

Iran.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Then came Thursday evening's presidential tweet announcing McMaster's ouster.

In it, Mr. Trump said the general -- quote -- "has done an outstanding job and will always

remain my friend."

McMaster, in turn, issued a statement saying he now plans to retire from the Army, and

thanking the president for the opportunity to serve.

His successor is a longtime hawk on foreign policy who has served Republican presidents

since Ronald Reagan, and has held President Trump's ear as a commentator on FOX News.

John Bolton was undersecretary of state for arms control under President George W. Bush,

and advocated for the invasion of Iraq.

He later served as ambassador to the United Nations, but only temporarily, as the Senate

fused to confirm his nomination.

More recently, he has argued for preemptive strikes against North Korea.

JOHN BOLTON: More diplomacy with North Korea, more sanctions, whether against North Korea,

or an effort to apply sanctions against China, is just giving North Korea more time to increase

its nuclear arsenal.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Bolton also called for bombing Iran back in 2015, when the Obama administration

was negotiating the nuclear agreement.

Since then, he has echoed Mr. Trump's desire to tear up the nuclear deal.

JOHN BOLTON: I think the deal is inherently flawed.

I think it's a strategic debacle for the United States.

You can always tinker around the edges.

The question is whether putting lipstick on a pig is really going to make a difference

here.

JUDY WOODRUFF: In addition, Bolton has at times shared the president's skepticism about

whether Russia meddled in the 2016 election.

He once suggested the hack of e-mails at the Democratic National Committee might have been

staged, not by the Russians, but by the Obama administration.

JOHN BOLTON: It's not at all clear to me, just viewing this from the outside, that this

hacking into the DNC and the RNC computers wasn't a false flag operation.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Bolton later walked back those comments, and has often been a vocal critic

of Russia.

but he also appeared in a 2013 video for a Russian pro-gun group supported by the NRA.

On economic policy, he applauded the president's imposition of new tariffs on China.

His arrival comes just days after the president fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and

named the more conservative CIA Director Mike Pompeo to replace him.

In addition, the president's chief economic adviser and communications director announced

this month that they are leaving the White House.

For more on John Bolton's career and his views, I'm joined now by Jonathan Landay of Reuters.

He covered Bolton's tenure at the State Department during the George W. Bush administration and

the run-up to the Iraq War.

Jonathan Landay, thank you for being with us.

So tell us more about, who is John Bolton?

JONATHAN LANDAY, Reuters: John Bolton is a hawk.

He espouses pretty belligerent views, and he has a history of being at odds with the

U.S. intelligence community, which exists to this day, where he has written about a

significant violations by Iran in the Iran nuclear deal, whereas the man he's going to

be working with, the director of national intelligence, Dan Coats, last month cold Congress

that Iran is abiding by the deal and the deal in fact is working.

Mr. Bolton had several clashes over U.S. intelligence where he was found to be exaggerating this

intelligence, one of the incidents back in 2002, where he made a speech about Cuba having

what he said was developing an offensive biological warfare program, was disputed by two U.S.

intelligence analysts, one at the State Department, one at the CIA.

Both men and their bosses say that Mr. Bolton tried to have them fired because of their

arguments with him over the intelligence -- his interpretation of the intelligence.

JUDY WOODRUFF: How did his relationship with the intelligence community affect the role

that he played in the run-up to the invasion, the war in Iraq?

JONATHAN LANDAY: Well, Mr. Bolton was a major proponent of the invasion of Iraq for -- because,

you know -- supporting the Bush administration's contention that the late dictator Saddam Hussein

had weapons of mass destruction.

That case was based on bogus and exaggerated intelligence, something I did extensive reporting

with my reporting partner, Warren Strobel.

But Mr. Bolton supported that case.

And at one point, when he was up for being confirmed, his confirmation hearings, as U.N.

ambassador, which he was never confirmed for, he was -- I believe there was a written questionnaire

where he was asked if he had ever been investigated while at the State Department.

He said no, but it later emerged that, in fact, he was questioned by the State Department's

inspector general's office about the sources of intelligence that the Bush administration

used for its case to invade Iraq.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Two other quick things I want to ask you, Jonathan Landay.

One has to do with arms control.

How has he dealt with arms control issues?

We know that could well be an issue in the next year or so.

JONATHAN LANDAY: Absolutely.

Mr. Bolton has been a fairly strident opponent of many arms control agreements.

And, in particular, while he worked in the Bush administration as the top arms control

official at the State Department, he was one of the people who honchoed the Bush administration,

the United States' withdrawal of the anti-ballistic missile treaty with Russia.

JUDY WOODRUFF: The last thing I want to ask is about what happened 10 years ago when he

-- George W. Bush nominated him to be the ambassador of the U.N.

Very unusual, the Republican majority, Foreign Affairs Committee, Foreign Relations Committee,

in the Senate refused to confirm him, and there were a number -- there was a lot of

testimony about John Bolton.

Just in a nutshell, what happened?

JONATHAN LANDAY: Well, there was a lot -- some of these cases that I just brought up came

up.

There was also allegations that he went after a former USAID contractor, a woman, at a hotel

in Moscow in terms of harassing her over a dispute, a business dispute, while he was

out of U.S. government.

JUDY WOODRUFF: You don't mean a sexual harassment...

(CROSSTALK)

JONATHAN LANDAY: No, no, not at all.

It was a contractual dispute.

The committee sent the nomination to the Senate floor, and he wasn't confirmed.

He was put in the U.N. ambassador's job in what's known as a recess appointment.

JUDY WOODRUFF: All right, Jonathan Landay, a lot to learn, and thank you very much for

talking to us.

JONATHAN LANDAY: My pleasure.

JUDY WOODRUFF: We appreciate it.

5.56mm M4 CARBINE ⚔️ US Armed Forces - Duration: 5:26.

The M4 carbine is a shorter and lighter variant of the M16A2 assault rifle.

The M4 is a 5.56×45mm NATO, air-cooled, direct impingement gas-operated, magazine-fed carbine.

It has a 14.5 in barrel and a telescoping stock.

The M4 carbine is extensively used by the United States Armed Forces and is largely

replacing the M16 rifle in United States Army and United States Marine Corps combat units

as the primary infantry weapon.

Facts -The first model called XM4, which was renamed

to M4 in May 1991, had an Upper A1 Sight, and was given a shorter 11.5-barrel, but later

it was given a longer 14.5-inch barrel for the bayonet and the M203 Grenade Launcher.

-There have been some criticisms of the carbine, such as lower muzzle velocities and louder

report due to the shorter barrel, additional stress on parts because of the shorter gas

system, and a tendency to overheat faster than the M16A2.

Design The M4 is handy and more convenient to carry

than a full-length rifle.

While the M4's maneuverability makes it a candidate for non-infantry troops, it also

makes it ideal for close quarters battle.

The M4 have mostly replaced the M16A2 in the Army and Marines.

The U.S. Air Force, for example, has transitioned completely to the M4 for Security Forces squadrons,

while other armed personnel retain the M16A2.

The US Navy uses M4A1s for Special Operations and vehicle crews.

Some features of the M4 compared to a full-length M16-series rifle include:

- Compact size - Shortened barrel 14.5 in, which includes

the shorter carbine gas system.

- Telescoping buttstock

Functionality The M4 is capable of mounting the M203 and

M320 grenade launchers.

The distinctive step in its barrel is for mounting the M203 with the standard hardware.

The M4 is capable of firing in semi-automatic and three-round burst modes, while the M4A1

is capable of firing in semi-auto and fully automatic modes.

Reliability

The reliability of the M4 has increased as the design was upgraded.

In 1990, the M4 was required to fire 600 mean rounds between stoppages using M855 ammunition.

In 2013, the current M4A1 version can fire 1,691 mean rounds between stoppages using

M855A1 ammunition.

Accessories

The M4 can be fitted with many accessories, such as night vision devices, suppressors,

laser pointers, telescopic sights, bipods, either the M203 or M320 grenade launchers,

the M26 MASS shotgun, forward hand grips, and anything else compatible with a MIL-STD-1913

Picatinny rail.

Other common accessories include the AN/PEQ-2 and AN/PEQ-15 multi-mode laser and light modules,

Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight, and M68 CCO.

EOTech holographic weapon sights are part of the SOPMOD II package.

Visible and infrared lights of various manufacturers are also commonly attached using various mounting

methods.

As with all versions of the M16, the M4 accepts a blank-firing attachment for training purposes.

In January 2017, a USMC unit deployed with suppressors mounted to every infantry M4 service

weapon.

Exercises showed that having all weapons suppressed improved squad communication and surprise

during engagements; disadvantages included additional heat and weight, increased maintenance,

and the greater cost of equipping so many troops with the attachment.

Specifications Weight

Empty: 6.5 lb 7.49 lb with 30 rounds

Length 33 in when the stock is extended

29.75 in when the stock is retracted

Speaking about the newly passed government funding bill, Trump said it was "good news"

for the U.S.

He said the existing FTA caused the U.S. numerous problems, including employment issues.

Saying it could be announced next week, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross added the deal is "relatively

close to a pretty comprehensive resolution with the South Korean government."

An official from Seoul's trade ministry also said that talks were on-going but that the

deal was in its final stages.
