HOW TO LEGALLY CHANGE YOUR GENDER (MALE, FEMALE, NON BINARY) IN CALIFORNIA // SB 179 UPDATES [CC] - Duration: 2:02.

hello everyone and welcome back to another video

today I'm going to be updating the California name change guide that I posted in 2017 because

SB 179 takes effect today for those of you that don't know, the bill

does two main things the first is that it allows people to legally

change their gender to non binary in the state of California

and have that reflected on birth certificates, state IDs and drivers licences

this bill makes it possible for transgender, non binary, and intersex people to have documents

that reflect their identity the second thing that it changes is that it

deletes the requirement to have a physicians letter to legally change your gender via court

order I said that a physicians letter was required

in original name change guide but that's no longer required

so hopefully this process will be a lot easier for people

starting on Monday when the courts open again you will simply have to say that you are not

changing your gender for fraudulent purposes and then the judge will most likely sign your

decree on your hearing date in addition to the portions of the bill that

take effect today, another portion will be taking effect on January 1st of 2019

and that would allow people to choose the gender category of male, female, or non binary,

at the DMV when they are applying for drivers licences or IDs

you wouldn't have to present any documentation or mark the same gender that you had on your

previous ID or drivers license or birth certificate so it's really up to you to decide if you

want to do the court order or go to the DMV I think this portion of the bill is really

important because it allows people to legally change their gender without spending $435

on filing fees this is a much more accessible option for

people that are just looking to change their gender on their state ID or drivers license

however, you would still need a court order in order to change your gender on your passport

or anything outside of California so that's pretty much what this bill is

I'll link the original guide down in the description below because it still has a lot of important

information that's true today and I'll also link the new name change forms

California house of horrors couple plead not guilty to torturing their 13 kids - Duration: 2:23.

</form> A Californian couple accused of beating, shackling, starving and imprisoning their 13 children pleaded not guilty on Friday

 David and Louise Turpin face dozens of charges of torture, false imprisonment and abuse and could face life in prison if found guilty

 Police raided the Turpins' home in Perris in January, after an emaciated 17-year-old girl escaped through a window and called 911

 Officers found the girl's 12 brothers and sisters - ranging in age from 2 to 29 - trapped inside the darkened, foul-smelling house, with some even chained to beds

 The siblings, suffering from malnourishment, muscle wasting, stunted growth and other signs of severe abuse, were taken into protective custody and their parents were arrested

 Prosecutors have said the victims were deprived of food, basic hygiene and medical care

 It has also been claimed the children were harshly punished for trivial reasons, such as wasting water by washing their hands above the wrist, and even taunted with food they were forbidden to eat

 Defence lawyers are yet to offer an explanation for the circumstances alleged by authorites

 Described as 'a deeply religious' couple, the Turpin's home-schooled their children and made them memorise Bible scripture, according to David's parents, James and Betty Turpin

 The defendants were each charged with 12 counts of torture, 12 counts of false imprisonment, seven counts of abuse of a dependant adult and eight counts of child abuse

 Louise Turpin, 50, also faces an additional assault charge.  David Turpin, 56, a former aeronautics engineer, was also charged with one count of committing a lewd act on a child, plus eight counts of perjury over his claims of running a private school, with his children as the students

 The couple entered a not guilty plea to all charges and denied all allegations.  Judge Bernard Schwartz denied a defense motion to try the perjury counts separately from the other charges

 The trial will begin on October 5.

California lawyergoes on racist tirade about Asians - Duration: 6:45.

A top California lawyer has been slammed on social media after going on a racist tirade directed at the 'Asians that took over Orange County' sparked by the new film Crazy Rich Asians

Christina Ignatius, who touts herself as 'the most well-known, most respected and most requested law tutor in the nation' took to Facebook after learning about the newly released blockbuster Crazy Rich Asians - the first major Hollywood studio film to feature an all-Asian cast in 25 years

 Ignatius, who describes herself as Tenacious Ignatius, said the film 'reminds me of all the Asians who flooded into Orange County and then took over our mall at South Coast Plaza

' Spewing racially charged phrases, the lawyer mentioned stereotypes such as 'driving like an Asian' and refers to the race as 'rice rockets' who were raised by 'Tiger moms'

Screen shots were taken of the offensive post and quickly circulated online before Ignatius deleted it

  Ignatius wrote that Orange County experienced an influx of 'Crazy Rich Asians, which she called 'snoshy' in her post

'It stands for posh and snobby,' she wrote.  'They have a zoned-in personality where they act as if no one else exists and they just run straight in front of you to grab the next purse,' Ignatius wrote

' They also drive that way near South Coast Plaza.' 'That's why we have the term ''driving like an Asian'''she added

 Ignatius works as a law tutor and said that Asians are now seeking her services for law school

'They keep telling me that they are attending UCRA,' she wrote. 'I need to translate that into my head to deduce that they are going to UCLA

' The University of California, Irvine student wrote that she went to school with a lot of 'rice rockets' - a derogatory term for Asians - who went there 'to become doctors'

 She then attempts to imitate an Asian 'Tiger mom's' accent, writing that her Asian classmates were told 'to become docta' by their parents

'Then if they were not smart enough to become a doctor, ''marry docta'', she wrote

'If they didn't marry a doctor they were encouraged to marry a lawyer.''Yes, my sucker Caucasian male lawyer friends who marries Asian women were completely poached for dollars and earning potential

'Apparently it was so provocative that it was considered abuse,' Ignatius later posted

'I had no idea that talking about stereotypes would be so provocative,' she defended, 'Somehow my post goes down bu this one manages to stay up with 10million views,' she wrote, referring to a parody video titles 'S*** Asian Mom Say, which depicts an Asian man dressed as an Asian mother

 'By the way, I do not hate Asians,' she said. 'I really love them and I find differences to be funny and interesting

'  Her post has been shared by the Asian community and allies who have called for the California Bar to suspend her license

California's most vulnerable were already breathing bad air -- wildfires are making things worse - Duration: 6:13.

 Carey Poindexter has been checking the air quality before deciding whether it's safe to go outside for much of his life

The 19-year-old has such severe asthma and allergies, doctors predicted that he wouldn't live past the age of 10

His symptoms are usually more serious in the spring and winter, but this year, summer has been worse

With record-breaking heatwaves and wildfires raging nearby, Poindexter spent most of his summer inside

 "It really has been pretty rough for people suffering from lung disease," he says

 It's been a punishing summer in California. But it's worse for those who live in the most polluted areas, and as a result are already at heightened risk for respiratory diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

By exacerbating this summer's heat waves and wildfires, climate change is stacking health burdens on communities already breathing bad air

 On Monday, California released a Climate Change Assessment detailing the mounting risks the state faces as the planet warms

Among the report's findings: Forests will become even more susceptible to extreme wildfires

By mid-century, heat waves could occur four to 10 times more frequently and last two weeks longer, leading to more heat-related deaths and illnesses

 And those findings spell disaster for people who are already struggling to breathe amid this summer's climate-driven calamities

Hot temperatures cause lungs to strain as the body tries to cool itself. Heat speeds up the formation of smog

And forest fires also add pollution to the air.  "It's just a snowball effect," says Afif El-Hasan, a pediatrician and a national spokesperson of the American Lung Association

On top of the immediate health effects, climate change can exacerbate inequities that compound health risks, he adds

 If someone has limited resources and lives in a polluted area, "for them to open the window because they can't afford air conditioning becomes a health dilemma," El-Hasan points out

 Olivia Barbour is a 67-year-old resident of South Los Angeles who lives with COPD

Her home is on Imperial Highway, near the busy 110 and 105 freeways. "I don't know if anybody else notices, but I think it's even hotter closer to the freeways with all that traffic and smog," she says

And she's right — urban areas with lots of pavement and cars are hotter than surrounding areas

"I thought I could help myself by buying a portable air conditioner. However, I can't afford to run the darn thing," Barbour says

She found that it increased her electricity bill by $20 after using it for just one day

 The heat is also affecting her ability to work. Barbour sometimes does outreach for green grassroots groups like SCOPE or gathers signatures for political campaigns

But she says she can't door-knock this summer because of the heat. And that in turn has made it harder for her to afford the health care she needs

"I was supposed to be taking five nebulizer treatments every day to manage my COPD," Barbour says

"I just can't afford it. So I stopped."  Poindexter lives in one of the counties with the worst air pollution in the nation

This year, Riverside County ranked second for the most ozone pollution and sixth for the most year-round particle pollution

 "It's so bad to where if you just look outside, you can see a greyish horizon," he says

 The smog he sees is made worse by rising temperatures. Ground-level ozone, the pollutant that makes up a majority of smog, is created by a chemical reaction between pollutants released by vehicles, power plants, and refineries

Those chemical reactions speed up when it's hot out.  What effect does increased ozone have on your lungs? "It's kind of like giving a sunburn to the lining of your lungs," says pediatrician El-Hasan

"It's very irritating."  Poindexter wasn't just scanning the horizon for smog, but for smoke, too

 The Holy and Keller fires came pretty close to Poindexter's home in Temecula. He and his mother decided to take a cruise to Mexico to escape the smoke

 Still, Poindexter knows he and others with lung disease can't always get away from poor air quality

He voted for the first time this year, and he voted for clean air. "Whether it's a proposition or an elected official, the first thing I look at is what they're going to do for air quality," Poindexter says

the UCLA campus.

I can't wait to see my best friend, kimmy siu who attends UCLA.

In T- 1 hour.

So compared to hopkins, UCLA is about 2.5X larger in terms of student body size.

The top 3 majors at UCLA are Biology, business economics, and political science.

Right now we are in Santa Barbara where one of my favorite TV shows Psych takes place.

However, after some research, we found out that Psych was actually filmed in Canada.

So we are a little disappointed.

Fun fact, the santa barbara police department is actually a hostel in vancouver!

Just a hundred miles south of SF.

Also it's pretty chilly here, 66 degrees.

We're on our way to SF today.

Interesting fact, I thought that Monk (TV show based in SF) was filmed in SF but again,

it was filmed... in Canada.

Our first stop is Stanford University.

So we saw this fresh produce market off the road and we're going to buy some fruits!

Wow, I really love being a Stanford Reject.

But in all seriousness, college is what you make of it.

We are finally in SF, Chinatown.

It's so windy here.

The quality is bad cuz I'm zooming in, but that's Alcatraz Prison, known to be one of

the most secure prison's in the world.

However, it closed down and now it's just a tourist spot.

This is called Shikkae.

It's rice and water.

So it's been 6 hours in the car and we're finally at redwood forest.

The redwood forest is home to the tallest trees on earth.

Ok this view is actually breathtaking
