U.S. President Donald Trump is sounding the alarm about North Korea.

He says Pyongyang's reckless pursuit of nuclear missiles threatens the United States.

Lee Jeong-yeon has more on Trump's debut State of the Union address.

U.S. President Donald Trump delivered his maiden State of the Union speech to Congress

on Tuesday.

He said "maximum pressure" will be placed on North Korea as he referred to the regime's

"cruel dictatorship" and its "reckless pursuit of nuclear missiles" that could threaten the

U.S..

"Complacency and concessions only invite aggression and provocations.

I will not repeat the mistakes of the past administrations that got us into this dangerous

position."

He also narrated the incident with the late Otto Warmbier, whose family was present at

the address, as well as the story of the North Korean defector Ji Seong-ho who was also in

the audience.

Aside from comments on the regime, he mainly stressed 'unity' and 'reconciliation' of different

parties to come together 'for the people.'

Immigration took a pivotal portion of his speech.

He said he would push for policies that focus on the 'best interests of American workers

and American families,' by crafting a bipartisan approach to immigration reform.

He mentioned the 'four pillars' plan.

This includes a pathway to provide citizenship to 1-point-8 million unregistered immigrants

in the U.S., building a wall on the Southern border with Mexico, abolishing the visa lottery

to move towards a 'merit-based immigration system,' and ending chain migration to protect

the nuclear family.

He also took credit for the record-low unemployment rate and rising wages after 'years of stagnation,'

and claimed that 2-point-4 million new jobs were created since his election.

Trump called on the Congress to produce a bill that generates at least 1-point-5 trillion

U.S. dollars for investment on new infrastructure... to 'permanently fix the infrastructure deficit.'

He also said the U.S. has enacted the biggest tax cuts and reforms in its history, a move

that, according to Trump, will provide 'tremendous relief for the middle class and small businesses.'

Trump highlights North Korea and America first policy in State of the Union Address - Duration: 2:13.

Trump's address not only sent a message to Americans but also to the global population.

Kim Mok-yeon zooms in on the part of his speech that holds extra-significance for South Korea.

"North Korea and trade."

These two topics were the major concerns of many South Koreans in President Trump's long-awaited

speech.

The U.S. President spoke of numerous concerns surrounding the U.S., and talked in depth

about North Korea.

He mentioned North Korea's heightened level of threat to the U.S., Washington's maximum

pressure on the regime, and its determination not to repeat the past mistakes of previous

administrations.

This time around, Trump's tone was milder than his past speech at the UN General Assembly

where he gave a stern warning to North Korea.

An expert says that this could be a possible sign of the easing of tensions between the

two Koreas ahead of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

"Due to the PyeongChang Olympics, signs of cooperation have been observed between the

two Koreas.

I think the ultimate goal of the U.S. is not focused on the cooperation itself, but the

possibility that South Korea could bring North Korea back to talks for denuclearization through

dialogue."

The expert however added that Washington's firm stance against North Korea's nuclear

and missile provocations remains unchanged, saying that if the denuclearization of the

regime cannot be reached through peaceful talks, President Trump will be ready to achieve

that goal through heightened military pressure.

When it comes to trade, Trump just used five sentences, short but strong, to shed light

on his "America first policy."

An economic expert says Trump's declaration of an end to the era of economic surrender,

and his expectations towards fair and reciprocal trade relationships seem to consider the existing

free trade deal with South Korea as "bad".

"By saying 'fixing bad deals', I think he referred to trade agreements that benefited

other nations more than the U.S. such the NAFTA and the KORUS FTA.

He even hinted of scrapping the old and negotiating totally new deals when things don't go well."

The expert said that Trump's remarks on protecting American workers could also deal a big blow

to South Korea, as the U.S. leader is likely referring to keeping jobs and wages for its

nationals especially in the manufacturing sector, where South Korea is seen as a competitor.

US deploys aircraft carrier off coast where Russian ship was spotted 27 miles from shore - DAILYNEWS - Duration: 3:52.

US deploys aircraft carrier off coast where Russian ship was spotted 27 miles from shore

A US aircraft carrier has been dispatched from a naval base in Virginia days after a

Russian spy ship was spotted just 27 miles off the coast.

The USS George HW Bush, a Nimitz-class supercarrier, was deployed from Naval Station Norfolk, in

southeastern Virginia, on Tuesday morning, according to maritime traffic monitors.

Naval trackers show the 1,092ft aircraft carrier is sailing through the Atlantic Ocean but

details of its mission were not immediately available.

The last mission involving the USS George HW Bush was a seven-month deployment in support

of Operation Inherent Resolve – the fight against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

The deployment comes less than a week after Russian intelligence vessel the Viktor Leonov

was tracked off the coast of Virginia, home to the USS George HW Bush.

The Viktor Leonov, part of Russia's Northern Fleet, was tailed by US Navy ships including

destroyer USS Cole.

A US military plane, a P-8A Poseidon, was launched from Naval Air Station Jacksonville

to track the Russian ship, flight trackers showed.

At its closest, the Russian ship sailed just 24 nautical miles (27 miles) off the coast

of Norfolk on the US east coast.

Citing the latest tracking data, Steffan Watkins, a naval security analyst from Canada, said

the Viktor Leonov is now 350km east of Atlantic City, off New Jersey's Atlantic coast.

Flight monitors show a P-8A Poseidon, dubbed the "submarine killer", was sent to the

region earlier this week in an apparent mission to monitor the ship, he told Daily Star Online.

The Viktor Leonov, a high-tech spy ship designed to intercept communications signals, was spotted

operating in the Caribbean last week, according to a US defence official.

US officials believe the Viktor Leonov is currently on a four-to-six month mission to

gather intelligence off the US coast coast.

The vessel is a high-tech 300-feet-long spy ship designed to intercept electronic signals,

such a radio.

The US Navy has spotted the ship in several locations in recent months, including Cape

Canaveral, Florida; Kings Bay, Georgia, Virginia and New London.

Last March, the Viktor Leonov was spotted 20 miles south of the US Naval Submarine Base

Kings Bay, near the Florida border.

Having made similar trips in 2017, 2015, 2014 and 2012, an official said the US Navy were

expecting the Viktor Leonov to be deployed to the area again.

In February last year, Trump said he could get "tough" on Russia but stressed him

would prefer to "make a deal".

To illustrate his point, Trump said the "greatest thing I could do" was shoot the Viktor Leonov

"right out of the water".

"Everyone will say, 'Oh, it's so great, it's so great," Trump added.

"That's not great."

with the North.

State Department officials overseeing security for the U.S. Olympic team said on Wednesday

that they have planned for all possible threat scenarios over the past two years, prepping

for PyeongChang 2018,... over fears of further North Korean nuclear tests and ballistic missile

launches.

about the North's military parade set for the day before the opening ceremony of the

CNN 10 | CNN Student News | January 31 2018 | The U.S. president's State of the Union address - Duration: 10:01.

We welcomed our viewers worldwide to this January 31st edition of CNN 10.

I'm Carl Azuz.

And an act required by the U.S. Constitution played out in America last night.

Our first topic today is the president's State of the Union

Address.

The event as we know it is not spelled out in the U.S. founding document.

It says the president, quote, shall from time to time give to the Congress

information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their consideration such measures

as he shall judge necessary and expedient.

That's from

Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution.

The fact that it's done in person, the fact that it's done as a speech, the fact that

it's done on television, the fact that there's an official

response from the opposing political party, none of that is required by the Constitution.

But it is tradition dating back decades.

And so, it continued last night when U.S. President Donald Trump entered the House of

Representatives to give his first official State of the Union

Address.

So, what topics does he judge necessary and expedient for Congress?

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

DONALD TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: Tonight, I call upon all of us to set aside

our differences, to seek out common ground, and to summon

the unity we need to deliver for the people.

This is really the key.

These are the people we were elected to serve.

Let's begin tonight by recognizing that the state of our union is strong, because

our people are strong.

Since the election, we have created 2.4 million new jobs, including --

(APPLAUSE)

Including 200,000 new jobs in manufacturing alone.

Tremendous numbers.

(APPLAUSE)

After years and years of wages stagnation, we are finally seeing rising wages.

We have proposed new legislation that will fix our immigration laws and support our ICE

and border patrol agents.

My duty, and the sacred duty of every elected official in this chamber, is to defend Americans,

to protect their safety, their families, their

communities, and their right to the American dream.

Because Americans are dreamers, too.

As part of our defense, we must modernize and rebuild our nuclear arsenal, hopefully

never having to use it, but making it so strong and powerful that

it will deter any acts of aggression.

In the past, we have foolishly released hundreds of dangerous terrorists, only to meet them

again on the battlefield.

So today, I am keeping another promise -- to reexamine our military detention policy and

to keep open the detention facilities in Guantanamo

Bay.

As long as we are proud of who we are, and what we are fighting for, there is nothing

we cannot achieve.

As long as we have confidence in our values, faith in our citizens, and trust in our God,

we will never fail.

Our families will thrive.

Our people will prosper.

And our nation will forever be safe and strong and proud and mighty and free.

Thank you, and God Bless America.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

AZUZ: Another State the Union tradition is the opposing political party's response.

The first televised one of those took place in 1966 after the

State of the Union Address by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

He was a Democrat and two Republicans, Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen and

House Minority Leader Gerald Ford recorded speeches that were shown after the president's

address.

And so, that tradition continued last night.

After the speech by the Republican president, a Democratic U.S. representative named Joe

Kennedy

from Massachusetts gave his party's response.

He's the grand nephew of President John F. Kennedy and he spoke from a high school

in his state.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

REP.

JOE KENNEDY III (D), MASSACHUSETTS: We see an economy that makes stocks soar, investor

portfolios bulge and corporate profits climb but

fails to give workers their fair share of the reward.

A government that struggles to keep itself open, Russia knee-deep in our democracy, an

all-out war on environmental protection, a Justice Department

rolling back civil rights by the day, hatred and supremacy proudly marching in our streets.

It would be easy to dismiss the past year as chaos.

Partisanship as politics.

But it's far, far bigger than that.

This administration isn't

just targeting the laws that protect us.

They are targeting the very idea that we are all worthy of protection.

Ladies and gentlemen, have faith.

Have faith: The State of our Union is hopeful, resilient, enduring.

God bless you.

God bless your families, and may God bless the United States of America.

(APPLAUSE)

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

AZUZ (voice-over): Ten-second trivia.

Which of these "seasons" typically coincides with fall and winter in the U.S.?

Baseball season, hurricane season, flu season, or carnival season?

The only one of these seasons that starts in the fall and continues through winter is

the flu season.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

AZUZ: It's closed down schools in at least 12 states.

It set a record for the number of cases in New York state.

It's the first time in 15 years

that every state in the continental U.S. has reported widespread activity during the same

week and it's possible that the current flu season that's

ravaging the country hasn't event peaked yet.

Part of the reason is that this year's flu vaccine appears to be one of the least effective

in recent years, though doctors say people should still get

it because it might make the flu less severe.

H3N2 is the specific strain of the virus that's making so many people sick.

This strain usually causes

higher rates of hospitalizations and death.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ELIZABETH COHEN, CNN SENIOR MEDICAL CORRESPONDENT: It's always scary when you hear of someone

dying from something as common as the flu.

There are four main ways the flu can turn deadly.

The first and most common cause is pneumonia.

The influenza virus can directly cause viral pneumonia.

When someone has the flu, it can weaken

their immune system so much that another virus or bacteria can enter the lungs.

Infected lungs filled with fluid making it difficult to breathe, so

oxygen can't get to the rest of the body which can lead to death.

Sepsis is the second way the flu can become lethal, especially in healthy and younger

adults and children.

Sepsis occurs when a person's immune

system goes into overdrive trying to fight the flu.

This causes inflammation which can lead to a cascade of symptoms that ultimately ends

in organ failure.

A third way the flu can kill is by increasing your risk of heart attack.

Experts say an adult's risk of heart attack increases six-fold in a seven

days following a flu diagnosis.

The fourth way the flu can kill is by dehydration, particularly among infants and young children.

The flu often causes vomiting and diarrhea

which can quickly become life threatening if fluids aren't replaced in the body.

So, if you get the flu, when should you be worried?

Some people have a higher risks for serious complications from the flu, including the

elderly, children under the age of 5, pregnant women and

those with chronic health problems.

If this is you, make sure you see a doctor.

If you're a healthy older child or adult, watch out for sudden dizziness, severe, persistent

vomiting, difficulty breathing, pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen, and flu-like symptoms

that improve, then return with a fever or worse

cough.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

AZUZ: A horticulturist says the average humidity in a normal office is 30 percent.

Average humidity her is 60 percent and it kind of needs to be.

What's known as The Spheres is mostly an office space for Amazon employees, that's

Amazon the Internet company, not the rainforest.

Although by

looking at this, it has 40,000 plants and 400 different species held together by millions

of pounds of steel, concrete and glass.

A place where you could discuss career and plant growth, forage for new ideas, solve

problems with good reason, see how many meanings you can

Melania Trump CLEARLY Despises Donald And Showed It At State Of The Union Address - Duration: 3:50.

During Donald Trump's State of the Union address Tuesday night, pretty much every republican

in that room really enjoyed everything that the President had to say.

And I say pretty much every republican because Melania Trump was having none of it.

Recent reports have shown us that Melania Trump is absolutely furious with her husband

over the Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress, the allegations of the affair that the two

had shortly after Melania gave birth to Barron and her anger and pretty much hatred for the

President of the United States was on full display during the State of the Union.

Take a look at this clip and see Melania's reaction when Donald Trump starts talking

about family and faith and God.

In America, we know that faith and family, not government and bureaucracy, are the center

of American life.

The motto is "In God we Trust".

All right, so several things to point out before we even get to Melania's like stoned

face, I hate you, so much reaction to her husband.

Steve Mnuchin, in that clip, looked like he was more excited than he's ever been in his

whole life and his body didn't even understand how to convey happiness.

Just that wooden plastered smile on his face, clapping like a child.

And then speaking of children, poor little Barron sitting there clapping his poor little

heart out for his father who's lying to the American public all night, but that kid's

just happy to be there, happy to see his dad up on stage and, wow, so much enthusiasm for

this guy who doesn't understand that his dad is destroying this country.

And then, of course, there's Melania.

Melania's expression looked like she hated every single thing about that man that was

speaking and clapping very loudly for himself at the podium.

She didn't want to be there.

In fact, she didn't even ride with the President to the State of the Union address.

They took two separate cars and it's not even like they left an hour apart, they went at

the same time, they were just in different cars 'cause she doesn't want to be around

him anymore.

I will be shocked if Melania Trump does not file for divorce before the end of Donald

Trump's first term as President of the United States.

She hates him and she may not be saying that publicly but the fact that she literally does

not want to be around him, canceled things on their trip to Switzerland so she didn't

have to be near him, didn't ride in the same car with him and then refused to give the

standing ovation that every other republican in that room was giving, that speaks volumes

about how this woman feels about the man that she married.

She can not stand him and I seriously doubt those two will be together by the 2020 elections.

Maybe not even by the 2018 midterms.

South Korea, U.S. start second round of FTA talks - Duration: 1:48.

Round 2 of talks to ammend Seoul-Washington free trade deal begins in the nation's capital.

The meeting comes amid rising tensions between the two sides over U.S. safeguard measures

on Korean washers and solar panels.

Here's Kim Hyesung with a closer look.

A second round of talks to revise the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.

Negotiators from South Korea and the U.S.,... represented by Yoo Myung-hee, director general

for South Korea's trade ministry's trade policy bureau and her U.S. counterpart, Assistant

Trade Representative Michael Beeman, kicked off their two-day meeting in Seoul.

Before entering the talks, Yoo said she will focus on maximizing Korea's national interest

and that the two sides will discuss details on topics raised during their first round

of talks in Washington.

During the initial meeting in early January, Seoul raised issues with the investor-state

dispute settlement cause and ways to protect its agricultural industry,... while the U.S.

presented proposals to improve its auto exports and lift trade barriers.

As of 2017, Korea's trade surplus with the U.S. was about 18 billion dollars, with car

exports accounting for over 70 percent of the surplus.

At the same time, South Korea is expected to raise the issue of Washington's safeguard

measures.

A week ago, the Trump Administration imposed tariffs on foreign residential washing machines

and solar cells, including those from South Korea, saying they hurt U.S. local industry.

The safeguard measure, which was imposed for the first time against Korea in 16 years,

would lead to tariffs of up to 50 percent on imported washing machines and a 30 percent

tariff will be applied on imported solar panels after the first 2.5 gigawatts in the first

year.

Calling the move excessive, South Korea has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization.

North Korea will declare WAR on US if Donald Trump imposes further sanctions, Russia warns - Duration: 2:58.

North Korea will declare WAR on US if Donald Trump imposes further sanctions, Russia warns

RUSSIA has issued a stark war warning to the rest of the world that any further sanctions

cutting off oil supplies to North Korea would be "perceived as a declaration of war",

it has emerged.

Alexander Matsegora, Moscow's envoy to North Korea, cautioned Donald Trump not to place

any further sanctions on Kim Jong-un surrounding "supplies of oil".

He warned: "If the supplies of oil and oil product are stopped, it would mean a complete

blockade of the DPRK (North Korea)."

He added that such an action would "be perceived as a declaration of war with all its consequences".

The current UN sanction that caps oil supplies to 540,000 tons from China and 60,000 tons

of refined oil from other nations was labelled as "a drop in the ocean".

China is the biggest trade partner of Kim Jong-un - the recent UN sanctions saw trade

between the two nations slashed in half.

Mr Matsegora recently explained that Russian specialists told him that Kim Jong-un was

massively increasing his military might and that Donald Trump should think twice before

making good on his promise to deliver "fire and fury".

He went on: "It can be said that the North Koreans have managed to achieve a serious

improvement in their missile program over the past year."

Donald Trump's increasingly aggressive rhetoric towards North Korea has led the US to push

for increased sanctions to tighten the world's grip on the aggressive nation.

Before Christmas, the UN Security Council unanimously voted to cut exports of gasoline,

diesel and other oil products by 89 per cent.

At the time, Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, declared that "today, we cut

deeper" as she explained that the provocative nation had "chosen the path of isolation".

She added: "We will continue to match the Kim regime's choice of aggressive action with

actions of international sanctions.

"This most tragic example of evil in the modern world."

President Donald Trump added the unanimous decision showed the "world wants peace".

He tweeted: "The United Nations Security Council just voted 15-0 in favour of additional

Sanctions on North Korea.

The World wants Peace, not Death!"

- [Commercial Narrator 2] The most common side effect

is low blood-sugar.

- [Commercial Narrator 3] High blood sugar.

- [Commercial Narrator 4] Suicidal thoughts or actions.

- [Commercial Narrator 5] And trouble passing urine.

- All of these drugs have led to so many side effects

that pharmaceutical companies are developing brand new

secondary medications designed to counter-effect

the effects of the first medications.

(jazzy electric guitar)

Prescriptions can get stacked like pancakes,

one on top of another.

Take opioid painkillers for instance,

one of their common side effects is constipation,

so pharmaceutical companies developed a brand new drug

specifically designed to help people who are

taking painkillers poop more.

I'm totally not kidding, by the way.

- [Narrator] Opiod-induced constipation.

- [Narrator 2] Opiod-induced constipation.

- [Commercial Character] How long you been holdin' this in?

(laughs)

- Today, about half of Americans are

on some kind of prescription medication,

and one in five are one five different medications

at the same time.

America is one of the most medicated societies in the world.

We make up about four percent of the world's population

but we use up about 40 percent

of the world's drug prescriptions.

And we're not just drugging ourselves,

we're drugging animals too.

Something like 70 percent of the antibiotics

used in the United States are actually used on livestock.

Experts warn that this could lead

to antibiotic resistant super-bugs in the future,

that can't be cured with normal medications.

So what's the solutions to these problems?

I'm not saying that no one should

ever take prescription drugs.

What I am saying, is we need to become a lot more thoughtful

as a society about how we treat illnesses and manage pain.

Ultimately, we need to be promoting healthier lifestyles

in all kinds of different ways.

Part of that is addressing the question

of why Americans seem to get certain chronic illnesses

more than anywhere else in the world.

None of this is going to be easy,

but one thing's for sure,

we need to stop selling serious pharmaceutical drugs

the same way we sell candy.
