Acid and Water Levels | Amnesia: The Dark Descent - Episode 2 [CC] - Duration: 25:17.
[Steeliest Llama] - hello everyone and welcome back to Amnesia: The Dark Descent
we'll be heading to the wine cellar
hope everyone's having a good day today I'm actually awake at 12pm, which is unusual for me so
although my brain seems to have decided it wants to wake up between 9 and 11 am lately, for some reason, so
[worker 1] - where did the baron go? [worker 2] - who cares? he left us enough wine to last us a lifetime. Or at least until tomorrow! [laughter]
so while we're down here essentially what we're doing is collecting these [glass clinking] [eerie groaning sounds]
also monsters are making sounds. But yeah
we're just collecting liquid vials so we can make something to dissolve
something that's in our way it's pretty much it
[glass clinking] [rumbling and crashing sounds]
the best thing to do if a barrel is falling on your face [gasping] is just to stand there, and let it hit you, well done Daniel
but anyway
oh, for anyone who doesn't know, the sanity meter is just
something that affects Daniel's vision mostly, pretty much the main thing,
and if his sanity drops too low then he will faint, essentially, sort of, and just collapse onto the ground 'cos reasons
so, if you spend too long in the dark, 'cos he's scared of the dark, his sanity will drop, staring at monsters when they happen
will cause it to drop stuff like that
just gonna move everything out the way, 'cos it's a good use of my time
let me out!
rude!
[sigh of relief] let me leave, thank you
[footsteps]
so I've got two...yeah I've got two of them, got two...give myself some oil while I'm here
[glass smashing and eerie groaning sounds]
[roaring]
[eerie music]
first monster encounter, yay! [falling sound]
what the hell? was that the rock falling through the, I wasn't even looking at it
anyway
any stuff? no.
I've not really been doing much this week. Sorry I'm a bit silent, I'm trying to think of things to say, that aren't game related.
and I haven't really been doing a huge amount
saw someone this week
hung out with them for like, an hour or whatever, that was fun
pretty much the highlight of the week because I haven't been doing anything
and that's just back there
what else?
been doing uni work, again, but that's just
you should just assume I've been doing that because I nearly always have, so
why did I forget? [screaming and banging on door] okay.
I'm sorry I'm having such like neutral reactions to this sort of stuff I've just seen it before
if you can see you on the screen the vision is wobbling a bit that's because Daniel's sanity has hit dot dot dot
that's why, that's what happens. It's annoying, but, also it's a problem if
you need to run away from something and he's collapsed onto the floor so
[Worker 1] - What's happening? It feels like my chest is going to burst. [Squishy exploding]
[Worker 2] - My God. Wilhem, do something!
[Wilhelm] - Accept it. We're not getting out of here alive.
[Worker 2] - How can you say that? Alexander you piece of shit. Let us out of here! [coughing and retching]
[Steeliest Llama] - That was fun.
what else have I been doing?
oh, I dyed my hair! I say dyed, I bleached it again.
my hair hates bleach so I have to bleach it twice
doesn't matter what length my hair is it refuses the bleach so twice just to get
it to a decent blondness for any future dyeing
so I did that
[glass clinking and sighing] I'm gonna get to that
when there's, well I guess they're cut-scenes, of sorts? but I turn the lantern off, well I do this
because I don't wanna use up oil while that's happening so
sorry if anyone wants to see anything, but
"Wilhelm's Last Words My name is Wilhem, house of Gerich
these are my final words my confession and testament. Two years ago I was summoned to
the castle Brennenburg. As most of the aristocracy, I was curious about
what this supposed Knight of the Order would want from me and accepted the
invitation. The Baron was friendly and offered me a
proposition. It dawned on me that the nature of the contracts was sordid and that
the reason I was chosen was because of the follies of my past and not the honors
I have been awarded with during my time as a soldier. I was to kidnap healthy humans
upon his slightest whim and do so without asking questions. In return he
would attest to my character at the royal court, advancing my position within noble
society. I would like to claim that I struggled with my decision but it came
swiftly and I accepted wholeheartedly. Ever since that day I brought men women
and children to Brennenburg. I can't remember the numbers but there
weren't many perhaps even a hundred. None of whom were ever seen or heard from again
tonight the Baron invited me and my men down to the wine cellar to celebrate our
work. I had my suspicions as he descended the stairs but he insisted and joined us in
a toast. The wine tasted fine and my men drank without restraint. So begins the
punishment for our sins the Baron has locked us up and returned upstairs.
Forgive me what I have done. I was weak and fell into his diabolical ways.
My men are screaming, their skin has been pierced by their own tangled bones. I feel my insides
revolt against their God given nature. Blood has begun to pour from my eyes and I can no longer..."
and it stops
so, yeah, the Baron is evil and decided to
get rid of a liability by poisoning them. Fun times, fun fun times.
So now we need to go back to the lab
to assemble the acid.
Which is made up of the things we've just collected.
[roaring]
[squishy sound] Ow.
that gooey stuff is the shadow that's following Daniel. You'll learn what is and why it's doing what
it's doing later in the game, so I'm not gonna spoil it now
but, I'm just gonna say it's the shadow
that's what it's referred to as
nip downstairs
[echoey moaning sound] [splashing]
have I not read this note?
"Chemical Relocation The lack of a chimney to properly vent the fumes from my most
recent experiments has taken its toll on many of my less stable ingredients
in storage. Some seem unaffected but many are stained by the
fumes and will be difficult to salvage. I do what I can and move them to the wine
cellar." that's why, didn't realise I'd not read that but that's why everything was where it was
[roaring and crashing]
Just gonna ignore that and carry on assembling my acid.
did I not? [sighs in frustration]
it helps if you put the...it helps if you put the pot there before you do all the
other things, so you can collect the thing
can't believe I forgot that but okay
now we have the pot of acid
the stairs have been destroyed
where's the thing? oh.
the first time I played the game I didn't realize you could do that
I spent like, I'm not kidding, about ten or fifteen minutes
trying to jump onto this tiny bit here, that was fun. Didn't realise you could do it any other way. I was just stacking up boxes,
trying to get up there didn't realise that there was a way to do that without
having to spend ten or fifteen minutes
[roaring] struggling. Ow.
[footsteps]
now, this way, to the Refinery
[happy music]
[Daniel] - It sure is dark in here. [Alexander] - Yes and there's a good reason for it. But you can light
the lamp now if you wish. [Daniel] - What's the reason? For the darkness, that is. [Alexander] - Stay
close - be careful not to stray. [Daniel] - What's the reason? Why is it so dark? [Alexander] - Pay attention
Daniel. It's important that you keep going straight and make sure not to
stray.
[footsteps]
[growling]
[eerie music]
[Steeliest Llama] - Second monster encounter well actually it might be the same monster. Why are you playing the dramatic music game?
[roaring]
thank you.
playing the music that plays when the monster is looking for you. For reasons because that monster
totally can get you. Sarcasm, for anyone who didn't get that.
Go through loads and loads of rooms looking for stuff, also notes.
[Daniel] - 22nd of June 1839 It's been more than a month since my last entry. After the
event inside the underground chamber in Algeria, Professor Herbert insisted I
returned to England. He said he didn't want to risk forfeiting the entire
expedition lest I took a turn for the worse. An excessive decision in
retrospect, but I'm glad it turned out that way. I found my journal this morning
in the half has a collection of things brought home from Africa. Next to it lay
the broken stone orb wrapped in cloth. I tried to assemble it but couldn't. The
pieces wouldn't fit together, as if they weren't from the same object. Could I
have imagined it all? Was there ever a complete orb?
[banging] [Steeliest Llama] - Spooky noises. [banging and crashing] Do you mind?
Look what you've done to Daniel's vision now, it's all wobbly.
[Daniel] - 25th of June 1839 I feel the need to continue this journal even though it was,
intended for my journey to Africa. This must be something very important, I just
know it. I've taken it upon myself to piece the all back together, but it's
been more difficult than one might think. The pieces are behaving strangely. They
seem to change colour, shape and texture, but ever so slightly. Yesterday I took
careful measurements and notated any significant markings. Today I confirmed
my suspicions. They were changing. I was terrified a rushed off to see the finest
geologist in London, Sir William Smith. I approached the
subject with care, and we discussed how rocks changed form. He told me about the
nature of glass, how it eventually collapses on itself, like ice slowly
melting over the course of centuries. Smith eased my mind a bit, but I can't
escape the feeling that these shards have otherworldly properties.
[roaring]
[Steeliest Llama] - mm, err, I hate it when his vision is like this, makes it very difficult to see
sorry for anyone watching, who's having difficulty, I mean...I am as well, so [chuckles]
is there anything else in here that I need to get? Can't see.
Oh, more tinderboxes, that's great. What I wanted. I don't want oil, that'd be mean, just giving me oil.
Who needs oil? Honestly.
I need a box.
[clattering] [sighing]
[roaring]
I hate this area. [roaring]
[gasping] [roaring]
[splashing] [growling]
[dramatic music] [splashing]
I hate water levels, evil
[splashing]
of course you're stuck [splashing]
[splashing]
where are you going? [splashing]
[splashing]
[ticking]
[splashing] [growling]
[splashing] [ticking]
ha!
[splashing]
[splashing]
go eat the food.
[splashing] [growling]
[splashing]
[splashing] [growling]
I don't know why I threw it over there. [splashing] [growling]
[splashing] [growling] [clinking metal]
[splashing] [screeching] [dramatic music]
ha!
[splashing] [screeching]
[dramatic music]
[hopeful music] [growling]
ha!
I'm coming to the end of this episode but,
I might as well get to the next area
and then end it. So, I might run over for a couple of minutes but,
I don't wanna just hang around in one area
[splashing]
[roaring]
[splashing]
[dramatic music] [screeching] [splashing] [banging and crashing]
[roaring] [splashing] [banging and crashing]
[splashing] [screeching] [roaring]
[splashing] [roaring] [banging and crashing]
[dramatic music] [roaring] [splashing]
[roaring] [splashing] [screeching]
[sigh of relief]
okay, we're at the next area, I can save it now
hope everyone enjoyed the video, and see you next time.

Body Snatchers and Tortured Spirits The Dark History of the South Bridge Vaults of Edinburgh - Duration: 7:28.
Body Snatchers and Tortured Spirits: The Dark History of the South Bridge Vaults of Edinburgh
Beneath the ancient fortified city of Edinburgh, Scotland lies the South Bridge Vaults—notorious underground tunnels and chambers which became the dwelling places of the impoverished and the villainous
The dark stone vaults served as houses and workspace for tradesmen and merchants, but as conditions deteriorated, the chambers and tunnels were where the poorest of Edinburgh's citizens lived, and very often died
Prostitution, poverty, violence, and illness consumed the vaults, and infamous serial killers hid their dirty work in the stone recesses
But it wasn't always like that. The Early History of the Edinburgh Vaults: Shops and Living Quarters
The city of Edinburgh straddles seven major hills. The iconic Edinburgh castle has been a site of human habitation since the second century AD, and was built into formidable fortifications as of the 12th century to protect against dangerous invaders and sieges
Naturally, the closer one lived to this castle the better, and so bridges were built to span the deep ravines that sloped away from castle itself, modern highways of their day
The 19 arches to support the southern bridge were built in 1785, and vaults, chambers, and tunnels were established beneath the bridge-top surface, walled in, and sectioned off in descending levels
In all, approximately 120 vaults or rooms were built beneath South Bridge. It opened officially in March 1788
The South Bridge surface was a booming location for businesses, especially during the Industrial Revolution
Beneath the thriving merchant areas were workshops, and beneath those were living quarters
The Lower You Were Under the Bridge. It was under all this that an underground city inevitably grew, eventually descending into slums filled with poverty, illness and violence
The lower you were under the bridge, the lower your social class was.The industrial age in Scotland brought work and wealth, but housing, planning, and public health did not improve at the same pace
Living conditions in cities were very bad. There was overcrowding as families of more than 10 people lived in cramped rooms, mortality rates were high (higher than in England and other European countries at the time); and with no sanitation, no running water, and no sunlight, illness spread, and tuberculosis was a growing problem
For those who lived deep in the Edinburgh Vaults, the troubles were compounded. The Irish Potato Famine of 1845-1847 flooded Scotland with refugees, who often ended up at the very bottom of South Bridge
In addition, criminals and underworld dwellers moved illicit materials through the tunnels in a black market, established a red-light district with gambling and countless pubs and brothels, and crime, robbery and murder flourished
A Haven for Serial Killers. The conditions were so bad at one point, that serial killers were reportedly able to murder over a dozen hapless victims and store bodies in the vaults, all without being detected or stopped
One infamous instance of this is known as the Burke and Hare murders. In 1828 two Irish immigrants, William Burke and William Hare, allegedly killed 16 people (mostly women), stashed the dead bodies in the tunnels and chambers, and then sold them to a surgeon for dissection during his popular anatomy lectures
The demand for cadavers during a time of advancing medical science meant bodies were a valuable commodity, and the fact that corpses were not detected so close to the people living in the vaults speaks volumes about the conditions there
The Closed and Forgotten South Bridge Vaults Is Rediscovered. There are indications even the poorest citizens were leaving the South Bridge slums between 1835 and 1875
The vault complex was purposefully shut down, and tons of rubble were dumped in at some point, although the date isn't found in any remaining records
The dark history of the South Bridge vaults was forgotten in time. In the following decades, all forgot that families had lived down in the tunnels under Edinburgh
Over a hundred years later, in 1980, a Scottish rugby player inadvertently rediscovered the hidden tunnels and chambers, and they were excavated and restored with the removal of hundreds of tons of rubble
It was only when excavators unearthed children's toys, medicine bottles, plates, and other household items in midden heaps that researchers realized the South Bridge had been home to many unfortunates
Ghostly Residents Remain and Draw in New Visitors. With the unnerving atmosphere, and the eerie accounts of the vault history, it's no wonder that paranormal events have been reported concerning the shadowy halls, damp chambers, and tight spaces
Certainly, the chilling reports of Burke and Hare's murdered victims in the vaults are creepy enough, but there are several different specters who are said to now haunt the chambers as well
A ghostly child named "Jack" is said to grab visitors' hands, and the more menacing "Mr
Boots", described as "a nasty piece of work," throws rocks at people, it is claimed
Some who visit the vaults say they can hear his heeled boots stomping across the cobblestone, and his voice echoing through the tunnels
Despite (or more likely due to) this, tours into the Edinburgh vaults are very popular, and businesses have been set up to host private events, weddings, and live music
Several high-profile television shows and documentaries have been done on the ghostly voices and supernatural happenings
.Today there are many who risk traveling down beneath the ancient city to experience what life might have been like for those that dwelled in the South Bridge Vaults
