Decoding Dress EXTRA | Self Expression & Feminism | Lolita Fashion - Duration: 1:51.
(upbeat music)
- I know it means a lot of things for different people,
so really just for me personally,
well of course I love self-expression,
and that's why I got into street fashion in the first place.
But also, I'm also a seamstress,
and so working with fine garments
is something that I absolutely love.
So getting to be a part of wearing a fine garment,
it was just like the cherry on top for me.
It also encompasses a lot of things
that are kind of built into my personality.
I like hyperfeminine things.
I like period wear, historical fashion.
I'm a perfectionist, so I like having everything in place.
And the idea of Lolita being, as we call it,
instead of wearing an outfit, you're wearing a coordinate.
Meaning that every piece of what you're wearing
is a piece of your entire look.
And I find Lolita to be very feminist.
And I wear it as a representation of my feminism
because it's something that is feminine
devoid of sexuality, separated from actually being a woman.
There's plenty of men in Lolita
who wear the feminine fashion.
So it's harnessed femininity that can be appreciated
and loved on an aesthetic level,
on an innocent, enjoyable level,
without having any weights of being attached
to over sexualization of the female body.
You know we're really not confused,
or delusional, or playing a role.
We're just enjoying something on a very innate level
of just enjoying aesthetics, and beauty,
and feminism, and femininity.
