California Garden - December Garden Tour - Gardening Tips, Harvests & More! - Duration: 14:16.

welcome to the California Garden in the month of December from bountiful

harvests to things to do in your garden this month and what you can buy in the

gardening stores we have it all for you in today's episode

so let's begin with the garden tour starting with the raised beds we still

have the black Cobra peppers that are growing these were the ones that we

overwintered from last season and you can see right next to that we have a lot

of cauliflower plants that are growing well now and right next to the

cauliflower plants we have the radishes these are the winter radishes these

produce long white radishes and they're a great crop to grow in the cooler

season and right next to that we have the beets the beet plants have now

started growing well and they still have some more time to really start growing

the beets you can still harvest the greens if you want but I'm gonna wait

till they produce larger beets and you can see the bean plants these are the

pole bean plants that have been producing a lot of beans in the past

couple of months and you can see here now they're almost dying they've become

yellow and this is quite expected as the bean plants will not survive the cooler

winter days and on the other side you can see the pea plants that are growing

they have been growing on this trellis and producing some peas and right next

to that we have this new broccoli variety that we were trying and the

broccoli plants have grown very well as you can see here they're producing large

broccoli heads that will be ready for harvest very soon

and right next to the broccoli plants we have the radishes these are again the

winter radishes they are growing very well we will have some radishes very

soon and right next to the radishes we have some more cauliflower and cabbage

plants these have been growing well and will start producing very soon

and in the next bed we have some onion plants as you can see here the onion

plants have grown quite well and behind that you can see the cayenne pepper

plants that we overwintered and are growing well and right next to that we

have our cauliflower plants now the cauliflower plants yielded a lot of

cauliflower this month and we will soon see the harvest

now let's look at the harvests we made this month starting with beans now these

are the pole beans and they have been growing on this easy trellis for the

past few months and we got one last harvest of these beans as you can see

here great looking beans

and once this harvest is done this plant will be dormant so I will probably

remove this plant from the trellis now that the season is over but overall I

was very happy with the way the pole beans grew and it yielded a lot of beans

we also harvested a lot of cauliflower now there are two types of cauliflower

that you can get from your plants there will be the one which is slightly more

crispy looking as you can see here this one and what I came to know is that this

kind of cauliflower the one that you see on your screen here that we just

harvested is actually more sought-after compared to the regular cauliflower

because it's crispy and it produces great stir fries the regular cauliflower

is what you expect to harvest from your plants like the one you see here it's a

great looking cauliflower head all our cauliflower plants grew very well and as

you can see here the cauliflower heads are pretty nice we harvested a lot of

cauliflower from just one bed that we had here and overall I was very happy

with our cauliflower harvest

and as you can see here great looking cauliflower head that we harvested

moving on to eggplants this is the container little prince'

eggplant which is one of my favorite eggplant varieties now and this yielded

a few eggplants in December and the plant is pretty much dormant now now

that the cool season has set in I will try to overwinter this plant and see how

it produces eggplants in the next season

moving on to guavas we have the Mexican guava plant that was producing a lot of

Mexican guavas and we harvested a lot of guavas from this plant and as you can

see here the guavas are quite large in size what we got guavas of all shapes and

sizes but most of them were large guavas and as you can see here beautiful

looking harvest these guavas are extremely delicious crispy and although

they are not very sweet they are excellent in taste

mandarins we were growing our kishu Mandarin tree in this container and the

Kishu Mandarin is so sweet so delicious and a seedless as well it has become one

of my favorite Mandarin varieties now so these tangerines are extremely sweet

they peel off very easily the kids love it they will be able to peel this

Mandarin tangerine very easily and I think this has become one of my

favorites because of its taste this tangerine tastes extremely nice it's

small in size it tastes really good and is seedless as well so there are

different kinds of tangerines you can grow or mandarins that you can grow and

they are like the Golden Nugget the Satsuma the kishu that you see here so

it all depends on what kind of tangerines you like you can grow several

varieties and then see which one you like

I highly recommend this kishu Mandarin variety this is an excellent tasting

mandarin tangerine moving on to peas our pea plants were growing along this

trellis as you can see here and producing a lot of pea pods and we grew

about four or five plants as you can see and this produced a decently sized

harvest I think I would need several more plants for getting a larger harvest

but we did start harvesting the pea pods you can just feel around the pea pods

and see which ones have the peas that have developed inside it and this is how

your pea pod looks like it has the peas inside it and since we did not grow a

lot of plants this was great for snacking I usually just go out in the

garden harvest a few pea pods and then have it as a snack so all in all we

really enjoyed growing peas in our garden and it's really a joy to just

harvest these shelling type peas and then just eat them as a snack they're

absolutely delicious and very sweet so next season I'll probably grow some more

pea plants because I think this is not enough for average to a larger harvest

so I will try to grow some more plants in the future but if you haven't tried

growing peas in your garden do try it out the peas are extremely delicious

very sweet and very fresh peas that you can harvest from your garden now let's

look at the peppers the Chili Peppers we were growing this cayenne pepper we were

growing this from the last season and it produced a few peppers that we harvested

radish we were growing both the white radish variety as well as the french

breakfast radish variety which is a red one that you see here and we

harvested the French breakfast radish as you can see here beautiful looking

radish and this was almost growing on the top of the compost now we added a

lot of compost to this bed and I was happy to see that the radish actually

was growing just over the top of the compost just enough to send out its

roots and gather all the nutrients it needs and the French breakfast is a nice

radish variety it grows pretty quickly not as quick as the thirty-day variety

but still grows quite fast and now let's look at the tangerines

we had the dancy tangerines growing in our tree and as you might have seen

in our previous months the tangerines had started ripening and we harvested a

lot of tangerines almost every day from this tangerine tree now the Dancy

tangerine has a classic tangerine taste it is not seedless it does have seeds if

you are looking to grow a tangerine variety that's like a class a tangerine

variety try the Dancy tangerine it will give you really good quality tangerines

and just look at how loaded this plant is we have hundreds of tangerines on

this plant and even after harvesting almost every day we ended up with a lot

of tangerines so on Christmas Day we just harvested a lot of these tangerines

from the tree and it's very obvious that we cannot eat that many tangerines

so all this went to our friends we did meet a lot of friends on Christmas day

and it was really nice to share the produce from our garden the fruits from

our garden with our friends and the dancy tangerines are one of the perfect

fruits you can share with your friends they're extremely sweet delicious

and our Juliet tomato is also producing the final tomatoes and we harvested a

couple of tomatoes from this plant and now let's look at the things to do in

your garden this month you can start pruning your dormant plants like mint as

you can see here the mint will have a lot of dead stems which you can remove

and prune it will give some room for the plants to grow well and this is our mint

plant that was growing in the small container that we are pruning and you

can remove a lot of stems the dead stems from this plant because it will get very

crowded now you can do the same thing with the basil plant we had this thai

basil plant as you can see here growing very well but it was time to prune this

plant so we removed all the dead stems so in general it's a good time to look

around your plants and see which plants have dead stems and that leaves and just

remove them so that the plant has more room to grow during the dormant season

one of my friends actually gave me this Madagascar Jasmine plant and I like to

grow different varieties of jasmine so the Madagascar Jasmine is one variety

that I really wanted to try out so if you are growing this jasmine variety do

put in a comment below and tell me how you find this jasmine variety this is

the first time I am growing this plant I have a lot of good quality potting mix

inside this 16 inch wide container and I'm gonna be growing this plant here now

this plant loves warm weather so I'm expecting it to remain a little dormant

during the winter season and then grow back up once it becomes a little warm

now what are your plant very well after you plant it and I'm really excited to

see how this plant grows and I will provide you future updates on when this

plant starts flowering this is also time to start your second batch of seeds

so I'm starting some more cabbages and cauliflower plants that I will

eventually be planting now depending on your zone you can also start warm season

crops like tomatoes peppers and eggplants I usually wait till January to

start these plants because it takes about six to eight weeks for them to

grow in the seed starting cells so I usually start my plant and the first

week of January the warm and summer crops that is so I start them in the

first week of January to be transplanted around early spring now let's look at

the things you can buy at your local gardening stores it's Christmas season

all around but you can also get some vegetable plants and although they've

started selling a lot of the summer vegetables it's a good idea not to buy

them now because they are not ready to be transplanted yet however you can buy

some herbs some cool season crops like cabbages and cauliflower and you can

also buy onions which are available for sale now other than that we have bare

rooted roses that you can buy for planting in your garden they will be

available in December and January along with other bare rooted fruit trees so

it's a good time to start bare rooted trees in your garden now so there we

have it folks that was our episode on the California Garden for the month of

December from all of us here at California gardening we wish you a Merry

Christmas and a very happy new year if you like this video do give us a thumbs

up and if you have any questions do put them in the comments box below we'll see

you again soon happy gardening

Manhunt for suspected cop killer in California News Headlines kmov.com - Duration: 1:33.

Manhunt for suspected cop killer in California News Headlines kmov.com

An intense manhunt is underway tonight across Californias Central Valley for a suspect who shot and killed a police officer. It happened early Wednesday in the town of Newman.

Cpl. Ronil Singh became the 53rd law enforcement officer in the U.S. to be fatally shot this year in the line of duty.

Investigators hope surveillance video can help them track down the man wanted for killing Singh. The suspect is seen buying several packs of beer before getting back into his Dodge Ram pickup truck. Stanislaus County Sheriffs detectives tell CBS News they believe this video was taken before Singh was shot.

"The vehicle does not have an actual California license plate," said Stanislaus County Sheriff Deputy Royjinder Singh who is not related to Ronil Singh . "It has paper dealership plates with the title AR Auto."

Singh was shot during a traffic stop just before 1 a.m. Over the radio, he called out "shots fired." Multiple agencies responded, finding Singh alive but suffering from several gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities have spread out, trying to cut off escape routes. Investigators say Singh gave a description of the suspects vehicle: A gray, extended cab Dodge pickup truck.

Singh, a 33 year old Fiji native, was a husband and new father. He had been with the department for more than 7 years.

"He was living the American Dream, Ill put it that way," said Royjinder Singh, who called him a friend. "He went to the police academy and got his dream job of being a police officer. It definitely makes a toll, an impact, that one of my friends, one of my buddies, died doing his job."

CBS News has confirmed there is no bodycam and no dashcam video of the shooting, and the motive is still a mystery. California Gov. Jerry Brown ordered all flags fly at half staff in honor of Singh.

Correction: This story has been updated to reflect that Singh was the 53rd law enforcement officer in the U.S. to be fatally shot this year in the line of duty, not the 51st.

Bristol - The Sunny California of Europe - Duration: 7:24.

It's ridiculously early now.

It's around 4 or something.

I'm up this early because I'm flying to England today.

Let's just hope I make the flight.

It's important to bring a gift when you're a guest somewhere.

So I'm gonna bring these.

Nobody likes to wake up early.

Especially when you wake up early to do something you don't want to do.

I struggle with that.

But if you wake up early because of something you want to do that day that you really want to do,

it becomes a lot easier.

Like today I had to get up at 3.30.

And it was fine.

Because I knew I was getting on a plane, and every day I'm getting on a plane is a good day.

That's the cutest car I've ever seen!

It's the best car ever!

You have an option. You can share this with Pippa or you can not share it with Pippa.

That's fantastic.

Can you come every day?

Welcome to Bristol partypeople!

The sunny California of Europe.

There's wonderful tones of gray.

Bristol has it's drawbacks, but one of the good things is that Chris is here.

We're gonna catch a train. Catch a train to the market.

Chris, what happens here when it snows?

Everything stops.

So we had some pretty good snow earlier in the year and I didn't go to work for three days.

It was about a foot of snow. It stops everything. Whole thing comes to a halt.

I remember the Uni shut down when there was snow in Falmouth.

They send everyone warnings and stuff.

When there's that much snow.

You may think we're going to the museum, but we're not. It's the train station.

Look at that!

I would give that burger a 10 out of 10.

That was a good brownie! 10 out of 10!

Ok, so I got my doughnut and coffee.

What would you say this day is at now? Out of 10?

Out of 10, probably like a 9.

Yeah, we'll see how dinner goes. But I got good company.

For me it's been a really good day.

That's it. Signing off.

Gonna enjoy my coffee and doughnut now.

Coffee! Coffee! Coffee!

Do you want coffee by any chance? Yes please.

Chris, what's the name of that tower? It's called Cabot Tower.

Is that where we're going? Yeah, gonna go and take some pictures of it.

So what we're doing now is a timelapse, or a hyperlapse of this tower.

Hopefully it will a good hyperlapse. We will see. You never know.

We got it just when the rain started coming.

Good timing!

Let's see how it works though. We don't know.

For me, Britain has been my second home since I studied here.

I feel very comfortable here. People are just so nice here.

They make an effort to be polite and to be polite towards you.

They wish you well, rather then trying to get something from you.

Something I remember, and one of the reasons I keep coming back here to keep in touch with people, is that...

During my second year at Uni...

There was a snow storm the day I was gonna catch a flight home for Christmas.

Because of that snow storm my flight were cancelled in London.

I had booked a ticket three days before Christmas Eve.

So where was a chance that I might not make it home for Christmas.

So I was at the airport, a little frustrated and not really sure what to do.

At first, I got a phone call from Chris, that I stayed with here.

His parents had been watching the news to see whether or not I made it home OK.

They had seen that there was a lot of cancelled flights.

So they invited me to spend Christmas with them if I didn't make it home in time.

After that, I got another phone call from Sam and his parents said the same thing.

They invited me to spend Christmas with them.

Then I got another phone call from Alex, and his parents had said the same thing and

offered me to spend Christmas with them if I didn't make it home.

So I love Britain, especially Cornwall.

And I'm gonna try to visit here as much as possible.

This trip has been very nostalgic. I've just been looking back at good old times from Uni.

I recommend everybody to...

Take time to live in another country with a different culture that you're not familiar with from before.

Find out what it's like and it will change you for the better, I promise you.

It has changed me for the better and I love this place.

You'll make friends for life. Guaranteed.

So, Britain...

10 out of 10.

A somber day yesterday. I was with Loren Lighthall, principal of Paradise High School, when he first saw the remains of his home–so heartbreaking

I'll stay helping to identify the victims of this devastating fire, hoping to bring some closure to the families

(Robert Durell/jimwood
