And with fears mounting over a potential trade war,...

South Korea's top economic policymaker says Seoul will convey its concerns on the current

trade frictions to the United States and other nations at a meeting of G20 nations later

this month.

Kim Hyesung has the details.

The Korean government held an emergency meeting Monday to address the rise of protectionist

measures coming out of Washington,...including last week's annoncement to take steps to impose

a 25 percent tariff on steel imports.

"We are very aware of the recent developments in the overseas trade environment.

We will closely examine the possibility of growing conflict in global trade, its impact

on Korea's exports and the global economy, and address external risks swiftly."

Korea is the number three steel exporter to the U.S., and trade friction with Washington

amid ongoing bilateral trade renegotiations poses a downside risk.

The IMF and the World Trade Organization have raised concerns about Trump's tariffs proposal

on steel and aluminum, and major U.S. trading partners like Canada, the EU and China have

already responded saying they will consider retaliatory actions, raising fears of a possible

trade war.

At the meeting involving ministers of foreign affairs, trade, energy and industry,... and

others, finance minister Kim Dong-yeon emphasized the need for government agencies to work together

and said Korea will talk to U.S. officials and business groups.

"At the G20 meeting of finance ministers and central bankers in March, we will convey our

concerns about the trade frictions with the U.S. and other countries through bilateral

meetings."

Kim added the government will work closely with local businesses and focus on a strategy

of diversifying the nation's exports and investment, including strengthening trade ties with Southeast

Asian countries.

This leading edge Digital Scholarship Lab at the center of the oldest part of campus

says a lot about where MSU has been and where it's going.

Before where you would have to use a dozen slides or so, and a lot of description, in

a space like this I can relate my work a lot more efficiently.

The equipment that we have here is world class.

The virtual reality room is kind of my little project that I've been the most involved with

personally.

I'm really excited to see all kinds of different academic use.

The other day we were watching people in the VR space.

Two students walked up and they stopped dead in their tracks, and they just... (makes shocked face)

We're really hoping that we get lots of uptake,

lots of people using the space from all over the University.

And just to get them all in the space and kind of shake it all up and see what happens.

I saw a planning session for a grant that we're about to write.

Because we have a facility like this they're considering a $1,000,000 grant.

That kind of thing doesn't happen unless we've made investments like this.

The 360 degree visualization studio is the first installation of its kind in an academic

university in this country.

You can't get it anywhere else in higher education.

We always have said that we have global reach.

Now we can actually stand here in East Lansing and have access to the world.

The United States says it's cautiously optimistic about the visit to North Korea by a group

of senior South Korean envoys.

Pentagon spokesman Colonel Robert Manning told reporters on Monday that the Trump administration

encourages talks between the two Koreas.

China has also welcomed the trip.

Beijing's foreign ministry said the Chinese government is looking forward to the meeting

having a positive outcome and eventually laying the groundwork for talks between Washington

and Pyongyang.

What If The United States Split Up? - Duration: 4:09.

One year after donald trump was elected president, and its almost as if the united states has

split up into two separate countries.

One that is predominantly republican with traditional values, and the other democrats,

progressives who value social justice and diversity.

Each side does not understand the other.

Republicans call liberals social justice warrior snowflakes who push impossible utopian ideals.

And liberals view republicans as bigots, racists and hicks.

A year into the presidency that divided the nation and Each is no closer to understanding

the other.

As a biproduct, Its becoming increasingly more difficult to agree on issues that require

the government to act, and the united states is not coming together as a country.

The environment is being ignored, One has to wonder, what would happen if America decided

it was easier to become two separate countries.

Today, life's biggest questions asks, what if America split up?

Back when Abraham Lincoln was president, he struggled with trying to unify a country who's

inhabitants felt as though they had irreconcilable differences.

Back then, If you disagreed with the government, all you had to do was move away from Washington

to the west.

That is no longer an option, and now the United States and its inhabitants are again approaching

irreconcilable differences Conservatives are traditionalists.

They value family, hard work, religion, traditional values.

Progressives value humanism, socialism, diversity, social justice, income equality and feminism.

If the United States split up into two separate countries, each nation would have a government

that suits the needs of its people.

There would be pros and cons to both systems of government.

The progressives would enjoy things like free, government-funded abortions.

Firearms would be banned, and owning a gun would be a privilege reserved for authorities.

Gun related crime would be a lot more uncommon in this country.

Progressives would pay far more taxes, but receive a basic living wage, free healthcare

and free post-secondary education.

The government would regulate the economy, and permit all immigrants and refugees to

enter the country.

Greenhouse gas emissions would be regulated, the environment would be a top concern in

this country and clean energy would be the norm.

The conservative country would enjoy a free market.

Post-secondary institutions as well as health care would be private.

Taxes would be low, most would have a higher income.

There would be no government infrastructure provided for the poor or the sick, or if there

is ever a natural disaster.

Many red states are the ones that require government aide after hurricanes.

Yes, the populace would have more money, but they would not be as healthy as the progressives.

Refugees and immigrants would be expelled, and no longer allowed in the country.

Minorities would leave the red country both by choice as well as not by choice.

It is to be expected that those who represent the far right would make it increasingly difficult

for minorities in this conservative country.

Furthermore, the environment would not be a top concern in this country.

There would be no government regulation of greenhouse gases, oil, coal or gas production.

Yes, there would be plenty of high paying jobs in the energy sector, but those high

paying jobs will have to pay for the health problems that will arise from a country with

heavy pollution.

So what did we learn?

Despite the irreconcilable differences, it's the balance between the conservatives and

the progressives that's necessary for the United States to function as one country.

Progressives need to be able to tax a large body of hard workers.

If those workers didn't exist, they would have no one to tax, and would not be able

to provide a living wage or other government funded programs.

Businesses would not want to remain in a country where the government regulated the economy.

The vast majority of america's weath is earned in big, blue cities like new york and

los Angeles but Businesses and manufacturers would likely leave the progressive country

in search of a country with a free market system.

On the flip side of things, statistics show that red states are nearly twice as dependent

on the federal government as blue states.

20 of the 26 states that were most dependent on federal aid voted for Donald trump in the

2016 election.

Many of the states that need government programs the most, are republican states.

Of course, the united states will not split up, no matter how much each side bickers back

and forth.

Each side needs the other, and the sooner that they both realize that, the sooner America

can move forward as one country.

against its own nationals.

While it did not elaborate,... it seems to be in reference to last year's assassination

of Kim Jong-nam,... the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

weapons,... following its determination that such weapons were used to kill Kim Jong-nam

last year.

The State Department published in the Federal Register that Pyongyang has used chemical

weapons in violation of international law against its own nationals.

It did not elaborate,... but diplomatic experts explained this is an apparent reference to

the killing of Kim at an international airport in Malaysia using VX nerve agent.

The sanctions include a termination of aid to North Korea as well as a ban on arms sales

and financial assistance to the regime.

While the new measures are unlikely to have a major impact on the North,... which is already

under heavy international sanctions for its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs,...

they are interpreted as the Trump Administration's continued strong pressure on the regime.

The sanctions,... devised under the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Warfare

Elimination Act of 1991,... will remain in effect until further notice.
