Staying with the second Kim-Trump summit set to take place in a matter of weeks.

While anticipation builds as to what kind of results the two leaders could produce,

some experts are skeptical the talks will lead to some form of a breakthrough.

Kan Hyeong-woo shares with us their views.

Considering how historic the first summit between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump seemed

last June, there's been remarkably little progress since then towards the North's denuclearization.

With only about 20 days left until their second meeting, and talks ongoing to narrow their

differences,... experts say it might be too much to expect what people are calling a "big

deal."

"So at this time, it's already February, and we are expecting the summit at the end of

February so there's physically not enough time for the working-level negotiations to

prescribe all the details for the summit."

Instead, the summit's biggest achievement might be both Kim and Trump officially announcing

that the two sides will continue to negotiate at the working level to achieve the regime's

final and fully verified denuclearization.

Other experts point out that the two leaders would face a lot of criticism if they only

come out with a "small deal,"... so they might shoot for concrete deliverables in the limited

time they have.

"You know,... the two countries' two leaders are under pressure about making a big deal.

We will see how it goes.

It doesn't look very easy, but they are under pressure.

So I think a possibility is still there."

Pyeongyang wants the sanctions on it to be lifted,... but Washington insists that won't

happen until North Korea produces a complete list of its nuclear weapons facilities and

commits to dismantle all of them under international supervision.

So unless there's real progress being made now, the second summit between Kim and Trump

could end up being a 'lose-lose' situation.

So we are on FTD facts most of you viewers have noticed that we've been learning about many different organizations and

militaries from around the world

I've talked about how much power certain countries have like the European countries and have also looked at their Special Forces Air Forces and different

Departments within these militaries. However today I figured we'd take a look at the world famous group

That is across the pond from our regular viewers in

Southeast Asia or in Europe and look at the Navy SEALs from the United States of America and understand not only its history

But some unique facts about them. Hey everybody. How's it going?

Welcome to FTD facts the channel where I look at people cultures some places and military divisions and stuff from all around the world

I'm Dave Walpole and one of the questions that I really want to ask first when it comes to the Navy SEALs is are the

Navy SEALs a special forces unit or more identified as frogmen well

Theoretically both and as a matter of fact if you're unfamiliar with the frogmen term most frogmen groups

which are experts in diving and underwater missions are generally classified as Special Forces units and

Especially when it comes to the United States Navy SEALs

They pretty much came from the frogmen groups from the Second World War and with that in mind

We got to go way back to the Second World War as a matter of fact, August 15

1942 to be exact this was the date that the army organized what is known as the

Amphibious scout and Rader school and was located in Fort Pierce, Florida

Now this was a small

Group where the soldiers that were a part of it came from different divisions of the Navy and it was at that time they began

Training at the amphibious training base in Little Creek, Virginia

now one of the first major

Important individuals that I should talk about is Phillip H of buck Lou Philip H buck lou served in the first amphibians

And was considered the father of US Special naval warfare

This was because fours efforts in the European theater as an amphibious troop

He was granted two decorations of the Navy Cross

Which is the second highest achievement one can get so one of the very first

operations of this new amphibious group was during Operation Torch

which was an operation that happened in between November 8th and 16th of 1942 and

Carried out in French Morocco and French Algeria side note with Operation Torch. This was also the very first major

Involvement with the United States in the North African and even European theater and on top of that it was also the first major

airborne assault conducted by the United States of America and besides the amphibious Scout and Raiders

They also had a few other groups that were trained in amphibious assaults. One of the most notable of these was the naval combat

Demolitions unit these were demo experts and they were present throughout all of the war and began in

1942 as a matter of fact

These guys were very important to blowing obstacles and lines on the beaches of Normandy for Operation Overlord as well the father of naval

demolitions originated from this group and that was Lieutenant Commander Draper al

Coffman and he also indeed helped set up this group in the first place on top of that the Office of Strategic Services or the

OSS had themselves a maritime unit as well

And with those three units that I just mentioned they all had their own speciality

You had the naval demolitions who were in charge of obviously demolitions you had Scouts and Raiders who were also really good at

Pathfinding and of course you had the OSS who were really good at intelligence as well

But however one group that really stands out that makes you think of the Navy SEALs to a tee is the underwater

demolitions team known as the UDT

basically after the United States had a major loss during the Battle of Tarawa in November of

1943 the Navy decided to put together this group organized of nine teams of men and their mission very similar to the naval combat

Demolitions team they were in charge of going in ahead and blowing out as many obstacles as they possibly can

Oh, yes, and of course, they were also in charge of recounting the area as well

So when the major forces came in they would know what's ahead of them

but oddly enough although a few of these men came from these Scouts and Raiders programs and other programs in amphibious training a

Big chunk of them were what you call Seabees. Now. What were Seabees they were basically the

Engineers at the sea they knew how to build naval bases

Repair things that sort of thing as a matter of fact throughout the Second World War. They see that there was approximately 300

85,000 Seabees for the Navy but one interesting aspect of the team known as UDT

These guys were considered naked all the time. Okay

I don't mean they were actually naked they were pretty much wearing, you know swim trunks the entire time

This is because throughout the Second World War their behavior broke against what was known as the Fort Pierce

Protocol because of that they ignored their orders to stay in their boat and jumped out in their bathing suits

To survey the area as well

They also operated in broad daylight which was a very uncommon thing and considered a very dangerous thing to do

The reason for this is because they say they'd be able to spot things

underwater a lot easier during the day than at night by the end of the war the UDT had 34 teams in which

two guys usually work together on a coast and I just think it's amazing that these guys were

You know military dudes and they were still just wearing bathing suits, you know

A couple of flippers and of course some goggles and that was pretty much it of course, though

That is just the second world war

That is just a basis of where the Navy SEALs came from because it wasn't until the 60s that the Navy SEALs

Actually formed this was because on May 25th 1961 during. John, f kennedy's very famous. Speech

He mentioned how he was going to invest a hundred million dollars into Special Forces training numbered of a side note

Some people think that John F. Kennedy came up with the whole idea of the Navy SEALs

well

There are another argument that people say the Navy SEALs was an idea that was thought of even as far back as the Korean War

however

You can say because John F Kennedy decided to push more Special Forces training

The Navy SEALs came to be because it was shortly after John F Kennedy

Speech that in 1962 the first two Navy SEAL Teams were formed now

This is where the whole Special Forces team sort of comes in because they were created as a naval counter to the army special forces

Units and although this may not be official but according to the founding SEAL team member known as Roy Boehm

he stated that the very first missions that the SEALs were a part of was in the communist country of Cuba, but however in

1963 the CIA started using the Navy SEALs in

operations in Vietnam

Keep in mind this was well before America even decided to enter the war because that was in 1965

Also a little bit of a side note when it comes to these CIA

missions a lot of them weren't actually really that successful and the only time they became successful is when the Navy SEALs

Got their own

independence and were capable of doing their own missions and it was after that the Navy SEALs started getting the

Reputation of being a quite capable force because when they were under I guess you could say the eye of the CIA

they really weren't doing that well and to give you an idea of how successful and courageous these guys are during the war from

1965 to

1975 the Navy SEALs received one Medal of Honor to Navy crosses

42 Silver Stars four hundred and two Bronze Stars to legions of merit and 352 accommodation medals and

51 Navy achievements as well

They apparently had a kill count of over 2,000 and had only lost

42 to 48 men and to go into some darker history commander Robert J Fay was the first Navy SEAL to lose his life

During Vietnam after a mortar round had struck him and this happened on October 28th

1965 however

The first Navy SEAL to lose his life in combat was Billy machen who was a radar man and he lost his life on

August 16

1966 moon rail on let's look at some of the more modern aspects of the Navy SEALs because quite a lots changed since

Vietnam, of course

firstly the Navy SEALs have actually took part of many different operations from around the world and

Just because they're known as the Navy SEALs doesn't mean they always operate in water

As a matter of fact, they do a lot of land operations as well and including Vietnam

they were a part of Lebanon Desert Storm the Somalia Civil War the

Yugoslav war and of course were in Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom

They were also in Grenada and many anti-piracy missions such as the 1985

Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking

And of course the Somalia Marist, Alabama hijacking in 2009 and a lot more and yeah

Maybe some of you guys already know that they were a part the mission to take out Osama bin Laden

but what you might not know is they actually built a

One-to-one scale size replica of the house that they were taking and they trained in that house

Every single day a lot of times now. Okay. What does it take to be a Navy SEALs?

Well, let's take a look at some of the requirements for this to get into the Navy SEALs

Not only does one have to be physically fit. But you also got to be mentally fit as well

We don't want any crazies with the guns. They got no. Thank you

First of all, you have to commit and do a 500-yard swimming in 12 minutes and 30 seconds

You also have to do 50 pushups in two minutes 50 sit-ups in two minutes and ten consecutive

Pull-ups in two minutes as well on top of that

There's also a 1.5 mile run that has to be done in less than 10 minutes and 30 seconds

This is during what they call hell weekend. Oh my god. Hell week is just a nightmare

If you go into describe it all of this, of course falls under what they call the buds or the bee

UDS training which is your basic underwater demolition

SEAL training and within this they say the very first phase of the training only

33 percent of the people move on to phase number two and with that there are three different phases

Of the Navy SEAL training which is 24 weeks long this of course does not include the Naval Special Warfare

Preparatory school that is eight weeks and also candidates have to be anywhere between 18 to 29 years old for me. I'm 32

So I'm out. Yeah guys. I know I don't look 32. Yeah

Oh, yeah, put my age guests down there, you know if you guys say 22

I'm gonna feel real good about myself of these first three you got phase 1 which is physical conditioning phase 2 is combat diving and

Phase 3 is land warfare

Of course

It's not over after that because then you got to go on to a three-week parachuting school yikes then of course

There is a 26 week long Navy SEAL qualification program which by the way, I know some of you guys are saying man

There are so many courses

Just to let you know

It's a lot of people that fail during the first phase as a matter of fact all the phases after that

They have a very high succession rate as a matter of for all the groups over

87% of people pass and of course after that there is also

Individual training programs task group training programs and other things like that

and as for the size of this elite force they say there is

approximately two thousand four hundred and fifty

Active-duty seals, which is just about one percent of all of Navy personnel. So thanks for watching guys

Trump on Tuesday during a State of the Union address said any new trade deal

with Beijing must include real structural change to end unfair trade

practice as the US continues to press China to make major reforms Trump has

vowed to increase US tariffs on 200 billion dollars of Chinese imports to 25

percent from the current 10 percent if the two sides cannot reach a deal by

March first watchers say the u.s. does not want to hold talks with China in

Vietnam to show that its focus currently lies on the hotly anticipated second

summit with North Korea they add that any misunderstandings that could arise

from meeting with China in Vietnam could lead to a negative impact on

denuclearization talks with North Korea from the upcoming second summit with

North Korean leader Kim jong-un to the March 1st deadline the next few weeks

will be intense for Trump and his administration

over the last two years my administration has moved with urgency

over many decades in just over two years since the election we have launched an

unprecedented economic boom a boom that has rarely been seen before there's been

nothing like it we have created 5.3 million new jobs and importantly added

600,000 new manufacturing jobs something which almost everyone said was

impossible to do but the fact is we are just getting started

wages are rising at the fastest pace in decades and growing for blue-collar

workers who I promised to fight for they're growing faster than anyone else

thought possible nearly 5 million Americans have been lifted off food

stamps the US economy is growing almost twice

as fast today as when I took office and we are considered far away the hottest

economy anywhere in the world not even close

unemployment has reached the lowest rate in over half a century

[Applause] african-american Hispanic American and

Asian American unemployment have all reached their lowest levels ever

recorded

unemployment for Americans with disabilities has also reached an

all-time low more people are working now than at any

time in the history of our country 157 million people at work

we passed a massive tax cut for working families and doubled the child tax

credit

we virtually ended the estate tax or death tax as it is often called on small

businesses for ranches and also for family farms

we eliminated the very unpopular Obamacare individual mandate penalty

and to give critically ill patients access to life-saving cures we passed

very importantly right to try

my administration has cut more regulations in a short period of time

than any other administration during its entire tenure

companies are coming back to our country in large numbers thanks to our historic

reductions in taxes and regulations and

we have unleashed a revolution in American energy the United States is now

the number one producer of oil and natural gas anywhere in the world

and now for the first time in 65 years we are a net exporter of energy

after 24 months of rapid progress our economy is the envy of the world our

military is the most powerful on earth by far and America

America is again winning each and every day

members of Congress the state of our union is strong

[Applause] that sounds so good our country is

vibrant and our economy is thriving like never before when Friday it was

announced that we added another three hundred and four thousand jobs last

month alone almost double the number expected

an economic miracle is taking place in the United States and the only thing

that can stop it are foolish Wars politics or ridiculous partisan

investigations

if there is going to be peace and legislation there cannot be war and

investigation it just doesn't work that way

we must be united at home to defeat our adversaries abroad this new era of

cooperation can start with finally confirming the more than 300 highly

qualified nominees who are still stuck in the Senate

in some cases years and years waiting not right

the Senate has failed to act on these nominations which is unfair to the

nominees and very unfair to our country now is the time for bipartisan action

believe it or not we have already proven that that's possible in the last

Congress both parties came together to pass unprecedented legislation to

confront the opioid crisis a sweeping new farm bill historic VA reforms and

after four decades of rejection we passed VA accountability so that we can

finally terminate those who mistreat our wonderful veterans

and just weeks ago both parties united for groundbreaking criminal justice

reform they said it couldn't be done

last year I heard through friends the story of Alice Johnson I was deeply

moved in 1997 Alice was sentenced to life in prison as a first-time

nonviolent drug offender over the next 22 years she became a prison minister

inspiring others to choose a better path she had a big impact on that prison

population and far beyond Alice's story underscores the disparities and

unfairness that can exist in criminal sentencing and the need to remedy this

total injustice she served almost that 22 years and had expected to be in

prison for the remainder of her life in June I commuted Alice's sense when I saw

Alice's beautiful family greet her at the prison gates hugging and kissing and

crying and laughing I knew I did something right Alice is with us tonight

and she is a terrific woman terrific Alice please

[Applause] palace thank you for reminding us that

we always have the power to shape our own destiny thank you very much Ellis

thank you very much inspired by stories like Alice's my administration worked

closely with members of both parties to sign the first-step Act into law big

deal this legislation reformed sentencing

laws that have wrongly and disproportionately harmed the

african-american community the first-step Act gives nonviolent

offenders the chance to reenter society as productive law-abiding citizens now

states across the country are following our lead America is a nation that

believes in Redemption we are also joined tonight by matthew charles from

tennessee in 1996 at the age of 30 matthew was sentenced to 35 years for

selling drugs and related offenses over the next two decades he completed more

than 30 Bible studies became a law clerk and mentored many of his fellow inmates

now Matthew is the very first person to be released from prison under the

first-step Act Matthew please Thank You Matthew welcome home

now Republicans and Democrats must join forces again to confront an urgent

national crisis Congress has ten days left to pass a bill that will fund our

government protect our homeland and secure our very dangerous southern

border now is the time for Congress to show the world that America is committed

to ending illegal immigration and putting the ruthless coyote's cartels

drug dealers and human traffickers out of business

as we speak large organized caravans are on the march to the United States we

have just heard that Mexican cities in order to remove the illegal immigrants

from their communities are getting trucks and buses to bring them up to our

country in areas where there is little border protection I have ordered another

three thousand seven hundred and fifty troops to our southern border to prepare

for this tremendous onslaught this is a moral issue the lawless state of our

southern border is a threat to the safety security and financial well-being

of all America we have a moral duty to create an immigration system that

protects the lives and jobs of our citizens this includes our obligation to

the millions of immigrants living here today who followed the rules and

respected our laws illegal immigrants enrich our nation and strengthen our

society in countless ways

I want people to come into our country in the largest numbers ever but they

have to come in Legally

tonight I am asking you to defend our very dangerous southern border out of

love and devotion to our fellow citizens and to our country no issue better

illustrates to divide between America's working class and America's political

class than illegal immigration wealthy politicians and donors push for open

borders while living their lives behind walls and gates and guards

meanwhile working-class Americans are left to pay the price for mass illegal

immigration reduce jobs lower wages overburdened schools hospitals that are

so crowded you can't get in increased crime and a depleted social safety net

tolerance for illegal immigration is not compassionate it is actually very cruel

one in three women is sexually assaulted on the long journey north smugglers use

migrant children as human pawns to exploit our laws and gain access to our

country human traffickers and sex traffickers take advantage of the wide

open areas between our ports of entry to smuggle thousands of young girls and

women into the United States and to sell them into prostitution and modern-day

slavery tens of thousands of innocent Americans

are killed by lethal drugs that cross our border and flood into our cities

including meth heroin cocaine and fentanyl the savage gang ms-13 now

operates in at least 20 different American states and they almost all come

through our southern border just yesterday an ms-13 gang member was taken

into custody for a fatal shooting on a subway platform in New York City we are

removing these gang members by the thousands but until we secure our border

they're going to keep streaming right back in year after year countless

Americans are murdered by criminal illegal aliens I've gotten to know many

wonderful angel moms and dads and families no one should ever have to

suffer the horrible heartache that they have had to endure here tonight is Debra

Bissell just three weeks ago Debra's parents Gerald and Sharon were

burglarized and shot to death in their Reno Nevada

home by an illegal alien they were in their 80s and are survived by four

children 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren also here tonight

our Gerald and Sharon's granddaughter Heather and great-granddaughter Madison

to Deborah had their Madison please stand few can understand your pain thank

you and thank you for being here thank you very much

I will never forget and I will fight for the memory of Gerald and share that it

should never happen again not one more American life should be lost because our

nation failed to control it's very dangerous border in the last

two years our brave ice officers made two hundred and sixty-six thousand

arrests of criminal aliens including those charged or convicted of nearly

100,000 assaults thirty thousand sex crimes and four thousand killings or

murders we are joined tonight by one of those law enforcement heroes ice Special

Agent Elvin Hernandez when Elvin [Applause]

right when Elvan was a boy he and his family

legally immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic at the age

of eight Elvin told his dad he wanted to become a special agent today he leads

investigations into the scourge of international sex trafficking Elvin says

that if I can make sure these young girls get their justice I've really done

my job thanks to his work and that of his incredible colleagues more than 300

women and girls have been rescued from bahara

of this terrible situation and more than 1500 sadistic traffickers have been put

behind bars [Applause]

Thank You algae we will always support the brave men and women of law

enforcement and I pledge to you tonight that I will

never abolish our heroes from ice thank you

my administration has sent to Congress a common-sense proposal to end the crisis

on the southern border it includes humanitarian assistance more law

enforcement drug detection at our ports closing loopholes that enable child

smuggling and plans for a new physical barrier or wall to secure the vast areas

between our ports of entry in the past most of the people in this room voted

for a wall but the proper wall never got built I will get it built

this is a smart strategic see-through steel barrier not just a simple concrete

wall it will be deployed in the areas identified by the border agents as

having the greatest need and these agents will tell you where walls go up

illegal crossings go way way down

San Diego used to have the most illegal border crossings in our country in

response a strong security wall was put in place this powerful barrier almost

completely ended illegal crossings the border city of El Paso Texas used to

have extremely high rates of violent crime one of the highest in the entire

country and considered one of our nation's most dangerous cities now

immediately upon its building with a powerful barrier in place El Paso is one

of the safest cities in our country simply put walls work and walls save

lives

so let's work together compromise and reach a deal that will truly make

America safe as we work to defend our people safety we must also ensure our

economic resurgence continues at a rapid pace

no one has benefited more from our thriving economy than women who have

filled 58% of the newly created jobs last year

[Applause] you weren't supposed to do that thank

you very much thank you very much all Americans can be proud that we have more

women in the workforce than ever before [Applause]

don't sit yet you know like this and exactly one century after Congress

passed the constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote we also

have more women serving in Congress than at any time before

[Applause] [Applause]

very good and congratulations that's great as part of our commitment to

improving opportunity for women everywhere this Thursday we are

launching the first-ever government-wide initiative focused on economic

empowerment for women in developing countries to build on

to build on our incredible economic success one priority

is parama reversing decades of calamitous trade policies so bad we are

now making it clear to China that after years of targeting our industries and

stealing our intellectual property the theft of American jobs and wealth has

come to an end

therefore we recently imposed tariffs on two hundred and fifty billion dollars of

Chinese goods and now our Treasury is receiving billions and billions of

dollars but I don't blame China for taking advantage of us

I blame our leaders and representatives for allowing this travesty to happen I

have great respect for President Xi and we are now working on a new trade deal

with China but it must include real structural change to end unfair trade

practices reduce our chronic trade deficit and protect American jobs

another historic trade blunder was the catastrophe known as NAFTA I have met

the men and women of Michigan Ohio Pennsylvania Indiana New Hampshire and

many other states whose dreams were shattered by the signing of NAFTA for

years politicians promised them they would renegotiate for a better deal but

no one ever tried until now our new US Mexico Canada Agreement the u.s.

MCA will replace NAFTA and deliver for

American workers like they haven't had delivered to for a long time I hope you

can pass the u.s.

MCA into law so that we can bring back our manufacturing jobs

and even greater numbers expand American agriculture protect intellectual

property and ensure that more cars are proudly stamped with our four beautiful

words made in the USA tonight I am also asking you to pass the

United States reciprocal trade act so that if another country places and

unfair tariffs on an American product we can charge them the exact same tariff on

the exact same product that they sell to us

both parties should be able to unite for a great rebuilding of America's

crumbling infrastructure I know that Congress is eager to pass an

infrastructure bill and I am eager to work with you or legislation to deliver

new and important infrastructure investment including investments in the

cutting edge industries of the future this is not an option this is a

necessity the next major priority for me and for

all of us should be to lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs and

to protect patients with pre-existing conditions

already as a result of my administration's efforts in 2018 drug

prices experienced their single largest decline in 46 years

but we must do more it's unacceptable that Americans pay vastly more than

people in other countries for the exact same drugs often made in the exact same

place this is wrong this is unfair and together we will stop it and we'll stop

it fast

I am asking Congress to pass legislation that finally takes on the problem of

global freeloading and delivers fairness and price transparency for American

patients finally we should also require drug companies

insurance companies and hospitals to disclose real prices to foster

competition and bring costs way down

no force in history has done more to advance the human condition than

American freedom in recent years

in recent years we have made remarkable progress in the fight against HIV and

AIDS scientific breakthroughs have brought a once distant dream Within

Reach my budget will ask Democrats and

Republicans to make the needed commitment to eliminate the HIV epidemic

in the United States within ten years we have made incredible strides incredible

together we will defeat age in America and beyond

tonight I am also asking you to join me in another fight that all Americans can

get behind the fight against childhood cancer

joining Melania in the gallery this evening is a very brave 10 year old girl

Gracie line every birthday [Applause]

hi grace every birthday since she was four grace

asked her friends to donate to st. Jude's Children's Hospital she did not

know that one day she might be a patient herself that's what happened last year

grace was diagnosed with brain cancer immediately she began radiation

treatment at the same time she rallied her community and raised more than 40

thousand dollars for the fight against cancer

when grace completed treatment last fall her doctors and nurses cheered they

loved her they still loved her with tears in their eyes as she hung up a

poster that read last day of chemo [Applause]

thank you very much grace you are a great inspiration to everyone in this

room thank you very much many childhood cancers have not seen new

therapies in decades my budget will ask Congress for 500 million dollars over

the next ten years to fund this critical life-saving research to help support

working parents the time has come to pass

school choice for Americans children

I am also proud to be the first president to include in my budget a plan

for nationwide paid family leave so that every new parent has the chance to bond

with their newborn child

there could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding

her infant child then the chilling displays our nation saw in recent days

lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation

that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments from

birth these are living feeling beautiful babies who will never get the chance to

share their love and their dreams with the world and then we had the case of

the governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth to

defend the dignity of every person I am asking Congress to pass legislation to

prohibit the late term abortion of children who can feel pain

let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life

and let us reaffirm a fundamental truth all children born and unborn are made in

the holy image of God the final part of my agenda is to protect American

security over the last two years we have begun to fully rebuild the United States

military with 700 billion dollars last year and 716 billion dollars this year

we are also getting other nations to pay their fair share

finally for years the United States was being

treated very unfairly by friends of ours members of NATO but now we have secured

over the last couple of years more than 100 billion dollars of increase in

defense spending from our NATO allies they said it couldn't be better

as part of our military buildup the United States is developing a

state-of-the-art missile defense system under my administration we will never

apologize for advancing America's interests for example decades ago the

United States entered into a treaty with Russia in which we agreed to limit and

reduce our missile capability well we followed the agreement and the rules to

the letter Russia repeatedly violated its terms it's been going on for many

years that is why I announced that the United States is officially withdrawing

from the intermediate-range nuclear forces treaty or INF treaty perhaps

[Applause] we really have no choice

perhaps we can negotiate a different agreement adding China and others or

perhaps we can't in which case we will out spend and out-innovate all others by

far

as part of a bold new diplomacy we continue our historic push for peace on

the Korean Peninsula our hostages have come home nuclear testing has stopped

and there has not been a missile launch in more than 15 months if I had not been

elected president of the United States we would right now in my opinion be in a

major war with North Korea much work remains to be done but my

relationship with Kim jong-un is a good one

chairman Kim and I will meet again on February 27th and 28th in Vietnam

two weeks ago the United States officially recognized the legitimate

government of Venezuela and its new president Juan Ryder

we stand with the Venezuelan people in their noble quest for freedom and we

condemn the brutality of the Maduro regime who socialist policies have

turned that nation from being the wealthiest in South America into a state

of abject poverty and despair here in the United States we are alarmed

by the new calls to adopt socialism in our country

America was founded on liberty and independence and not government coercion

domination and control we are born free and we will stay free

tonight we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist

country [Applause]

one of the most complex set of challenges we face and have for many

years is in the Middle East our approach is based on principle

realism not discredited theories that have failed for decades to yield

progress for this reason my administration recognized the true

capital of Israel and proudly opened the American Embassy in Jerusalem

our brave troops have now been fighting in the Middle East for almost 19 years

in Afghanistan and Iraq nearly 7,000 American heroes have given their lives

more than 52,000 Americans have been badly wounded

we have spent more than seven trillion dollars in fighting wars in the Middle

East as a candidate for president I loudly pledged a new approach great

nations do not fight endless wars

when I took office Isis controlled more than 20,000 square miles in Iraq and

Syria just two years ago today we have liberated virtually all of the territory

from the grip of these blood thirsty monsters now as we work with our allies

to destroy the remnants of Isis it is time to give up rave warriors in Syria

a warm welcome home I have also accelerated our negotiations to reach if

possible a political settlement in Afghanistan the opposing side is also

very happy to be negotiating our troops have fought with unmatched valor and

thanks to their bravery we are now able to pursue a possible political solution

to this long and bloody conflict

in Afghanistan my administration is holding constructive talks with a number

of Afghan groups including the Taliban as we make progress in these

negotiations we will be able to reduce our troops presence and focus on counter

terrorism and we will indeed focus on counter terrorism we do not know whether

we'll achieve an agreement but we do know that after two decades of war the

hour has come to at least try for peace and the other side would like to do the

same thing it's time

above all friend and foe alike was never doubt this nation's power and will to

defend our people eighteen years ago violent terrorists attacked the USS Cole

and last month American forces killed one of the leaders of that attack

[Applause] we are honored to be joined tonight by

Tom Whibley whose son Navy Seaman Craig Whibley was one of the 17 sailors we

tragically lost Tom we vow to always remember the heroes of the USS Cole

[Applause] my administration has acted decisively

to confront the world's leading state sponsor of Terror the radical regime in

Iran it is a radical regime they do bad bad things to ensure this corrupt

dictatorship never acquires nuclear weapons I withdrew the United States

from the disastrous Iran nuclear deal and last fall we put in place the

toughest sanctions ever imposed by us on a country we will not avert our eyes

from a regime that chants death to America and threatens genocide against

the Jewish people we must never ignore the vile poison of

anti-semitism or those who spread its venomous Creed with one voice we must

confront this hatred anywhere and everywhere it occurs just months ago

eleven Jewish Americans were viciously murdered in an anti-semitic attack on

the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh SWAT officer Timothy Matson raced into

the gunfire and was shot seven times chasing down the killer and he was very

successful Timothy has just had his 12th surgery and he's going in for many more

but he made the trip to be here with us tonight

Judah salmon he arrived at the synagogue as the massacre began but not only did

Judah narrowly escaped death last fall more than seven decades ago he narrowly

survived the Nazi concentration camps today as Judah's 81st birthday

they wouldn't do that for me Judah Judah says he can still remember the exact

moment nearly 75 years ago after 10 months in a concentration camp when he

and his family were put on a train and told they were going to another camp

suddenly the train screeched to a very strong halt a soldier appeared

Judah's family braced for the absolute worse than his father cried out with joy

it's the Americans it's the Americans thank you a second Holocaust survivor

who was here tonight Joshua Kaufman was a prisoner at Dachau

he remembers watching through a hole in the wall of a cattle car as American

soldiers rolled in with tanks to me Joshua recalls the American soldiers

were proof that God exists and they came down from the sky they came down from

heaven I began this evening by honoring three soldiers who fought on d-day in

the Second World War one of them was Herman as I check but there is more to

Herman story a year after he stormed the beaches of Normandy Herman was one of

the American soldiers who helped liberate Dachau

[Applause] he was one of the Americans who helped

rescue Joshua from that hell on earth almost 75 years later Herrmann and

Joshua are both together in the gallery tonight seated side by side here in the

home of American freedom Herrmann and Joshua your presence this evening is

very much appreciated thank you very much

[Applause] thank you when American soldiers set out

beneath the dark skies over the English Channel in the early hours of d-day 1944

they were just young men of eighteen and nineteen hurtling on fragile landing

craft toward the most momentous battle in the history of war they did not know

if they would survive the hour they did not know if they would grow old but they

knew that America had to prevail their cause was this nation and generations

yet unborn why did they do it they did it for America they did it for us

everything that has come since our triumph over communism our giant leaps

of science and discovery our unrivaled progress towards equality and justice

all of it is possible thanks to the blood and tears and courage and vision

of the Americans who came before think of this Capitol think of this very

chamber where lawmakers before you voted to end slavery to build the railroads

and the highways and defeat fascism to secure civil rights and to face down

evil empires here tonight we have legislators from across this magnificent

Republic you have come from the rocky shores of Maine and the volcanic Peaks

of Hawaii from the snowy woods of Wisconsin and

the red deserts of Arizona from the green farms of Kentucky and the golden

beaches of California together we represent the most extraordinary nation

in all of history what will we do with this moment how will we be remembered I

We're gonna be going to Fuji freeze

It's gonna be a mainland Japan and we're going gonna be up in the mountains doing some awesome training shooting 50 CAL.

Doing all kinds of crazy stuff. I just wanted to bring you guys along and let you guys know

How everything's been going. Everything's been going great

For me. I've been really busy with the Marine Corps. You can ask Phillips. It's been very hectic

So I want to bring you guys along on this adventure let y'all see what's up show you all the highlights of the trip

we got all the necessities water all that from the from the PX the PX is like the little grocery store they have and

Got a staple got to keep the workout in because all these we're eating so many MREs. We're losing the gains

So you got to find a way to keep the gate so we got protein bars. We got c4 and

We're gonna try to keep the gains. We're out here. Were you supposed to be here for about two weeks?

We're gonna be shooting some weapons and all that. So I'll keep you guys updated with that show you all the full experience

Hopefully I could bring my GoPro out there while we're shooting the 50 cals and all that so

Wraps up ours our leg workout. We did I'm not in video all of it

I just filmed a little bit of it but we started off with leg extensions from legging stitches. We did we hit the squat rack

We start off with two sets of ten two sets of five and then we try to get a three rep max

three sets of three

That after that we came in here

Yeah, we came in here and then we did four sets of lunges 12 on each leg what you just saw and then we wrapped

It out as much as possible on the squat you do it AMRAP as many reps as possible

And that just that just puts you

it sets a standard for you, you know when you do these as many reps as possible because you know

We do ten

We do five with your three, you know, we've limit ourselves

But when we do em reps you want to see how many reps can you do? How far can you push yourself?

And that's what we try to do

We try to add that AMRAP to our workout

So we can push ourselves beyond every single limit that there is that motivates you guys

I hope y'all get in the gym starts laying yourself

start seeing improvements because

2019 is for those that go out and get it that wraps up our workout

been organized by the United States and Venezuela's opposition who want to see

Maduro removed from power now Venezuela's military has to choose

whether to obey government orders or let the aid pass we have this report

Venezuelan soldiers keep watch at the barricades on the 10 Dita's bridge

border crossing president Nicolas Maduro has called aid supplies offered by the

United States a form of foreign intervention he's ordered the soldiers

to turn the assistance away but the soldiers have also been given another

order by Juan Guido the opposition leader who last month declared himself

that as well as interim president I give a direct order to the armed forces

necessary humanitarian aid to enter to take care of your family that has put

the focus on the military personnel at the border and their commanders which

president will they obey pedestrian bridges of the border remain open

Venezuelans can still cross to buy goods they can't get at home but many who have

shipments are being stopped I am asking you to please open the border let the

Venezuela we want to safeguard our rights and interests because external

forces are attempting to seize our national wealth at a military rally on

Wednesday Maduro called on troops to show patriotism and unite against the US

by the US Empire by the President of the United States of America mr. Donald

Trump there is a fear this aid standoff could escalate but for now along the

border the troops still appear to be following the orders of Nicolas Maduro

let's cross over to the Venezuelan capital Caracas from where dwu

correspondent Oscar Schlenker joins us on the line so Oscar what is the

situation on the bridge right now well the situation at the border bridge

remains blocked from the Venezuelan side this is a bridge that was just

constructed at the border in an area that has not much transit so it came

into focus when most of the humanitarian aid went to Colombia was being gathered

near this passing however rushed blocked this bridge and prevent the aid from

entering Venezuela Puerto Rico's Secretary of State Primera marine

announced the shipment arrived evening a passenger plane on what he said was the

secret flight so while all the attention of the venez one public and the media

was focused on the Colombian border what the Ricoh has

he's going a flying filled with a ton of humanitarian aid into Venezuela in what

the Secretary of State a foot of reckless calling a secret mission okay

so some aid indeed is getting through but I just want to quickly return to you

know the aid that is supposed to arrive by land because we know that the

opposition leader Guido has spoken about that and I'd like to you to take us

through a couple scenarios here I mean if it does end up getting through over

this bridge what happens then and does grideau have a plan yes has indicated

there are between 250 and 300 thousand people who need urgent medical help and

are at risk of dying people who need medicine and an urgent care she says the

first cargo of aid sent to Colombia and the Caribbean is enough to keep for

hospitals running for one month the food that is being delivered it's mostly

nutritional supplements for children which has been the most vulnerable to

malnutrition and sickness these last few years

I mean difference we land up 12 children who died in today from a bacterial

outbreak in the hospital in Onslow Peggy for example so this hate is very much

needed and could help a lot of people okay and again confirming that for us

that Puerto Rico has been able to get aid in to the country by air as many

were waiting for that shipment by land which is currently blocked Oscar

S. Korea to support 2nd N. Korea-U.S. summit for tangible results for complete.. - Duration: 0:50.

The standing committee of South Korea's National Security Council convened this afternoon and

agreed to support the second Pyeongyang-Washington summit so that it leads to tangible results

for the complete denuclearization of the Peninsula and permanent peace.

According to a press release by the top office, during the meeting, progress made by U.S.

Special Representative Stephen Biegun's visit to the North and the working-level talks to

fine-tune details of the upcoming summit were discussed.

The committee members also examined measures to participate in the Inter-Korean International

Olympic Committee meeting, which is where the two Koreas will discuss the formation

of a united team for the 2020 Tokyo Summer games as well as potentially co-hosting the

summer Olympics in 2032.

The Inter-Korean IOC meeting is set to take place in Lausanne, Switzerland on February

15th.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland will travel with a group of newly elected congresswomen to Texas and New Mexico on Saturday.

The group so far includes Democratic Reps. Veronica Escobar of Texas, Xochitl Torres Small of New Mexico, and Deb Haaland of New Mexico, who each represent districts near the southern border. Democratic Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon of Pennsylvania is also going on the trip.

"Despite the Presidents demagoguery over immigration, there is not a national emergency or a security crisis at the border that demands a wall," Hoyer said in a statement Thursday.

The trip comes as Congress has a February 15 deadline to agree on border security funding before another partial government shutdown goes into effect. A bipartisan, bicameral committee has been tasked with reaching an agreement that will be acceptable to President Donald Trump, who has demanded more than dollar 5 billion for a wall along the border with Mexico.

"We face challenges at the border, and as negotiations over how to best secure the border continue, I feel it is important to travel there to meet directly with immigrant advocates about the humanitarian situation as well as receive a border security briefing," Hoyer said.

The House members will begin their visit with a morning meeting with local immigrant rights advocates, followed by a visit to a migrant shelter in El Paso, Texas.

The group plans to stop along the border at several points, including a port of entry and the location where , a 8 year old Guatemalan child who died while in US Customs and Border Protections custody, was apprehended. Felipe and his father was apprehended about 3 miles west of the Paso Del Norte port of entry in El Paso.

CBP officials will then brief the group on border security before the members end their trip with a news conference in Sunland Park, New Mexico.

Torres Small said in a statement provided to CNN that the "realities of life on the border are often misrepresented and politicized by those in Washington."

"I am excited to have the opportunity to show Leadership and other Members my home, the community I grew up in, and talk with them about the real challenges we face along the border, from our most rural stretches to our most urban centers," the congresswoman said Thursday.

"This year," President Trump stated in his widely viewed and positively rated State of the Union address, "America will recognize two important anniversaries that show us the majesty of Americas mission and the power of American pride."

"On D Day, June 6, 1944, 15,000 young American men jumped from the sky, and 60,000 more stormed in from the sea," he said. And in July 1969, "brave young pilots flew a quarter of a million miles through space to plant the American flag on the face of the moon."

None of the commentators Ive seen have questioned why Trump chose to spotlight these events. He is not usually given to historical references; his trademark slogan is vague about just when American was great. Celebrating others past achievements has not been his thing. But beginning the speech by celebrating these two American triumphs provided a shrewd framing with the potential to elevate his image.

Trump has obviously paid heed to the political numbers that show him likely to lose the next election. He got 46 percent of the popular vote in 2016 and won because he threaded several needles to win enough electoral votes.

His job approval is now down to 41 percent, and in November, his party lost 40 House seats, almost all in affluent, high education districts. Losses were especially great among upscale women, hence his generous salute to the increasing number of mostly Democratic women in Congress.

But that came later in the speech. The larger point made at the beginning, underlined by the appearance of three D Day veterans and astronaut Buzz Aldrin, was a refutation, without specific mention, of an argument that underlies so much of the upscale loathing of Trump and his politics.

That is the idea call it the cosmopolitan argument that nationalism is always bad, a primitive and unsophisticated bias in favor of the home team, a short step if that from Nazism. The argument is attractive to many because it makes them feel more sophisticated than the rubes who always praise America.

But the argument is weak, if you know more history. "I ask you to join with me in prayer," then President Franklin Roosevelt said in his fireside radio chat on the evening of D Day. "Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity."

Yes, its nationalism and a prayer; Roosevelt mentioned allies only in passing. Trump underscored Roosevelts assertion that American nationalism is for the good by introducing and leading the singing of "Happy Birthday" for 81 year old Holocaust survivor Judah Samet. As Trump explained: "Judah says he can still remember the exact moment ... when he and his family were put on a train and told they were going to another camp. Suddenly the train screeched to a halt. A soldier appeared. Judahs family braced for the worst. Then, his father cried out with joy, Its the Americans!"

Today, Trump argued, American nationalism continues to be benign, whether its trying to stop Irans nuclear and genocidal ambitions by withdrawing from the Obama nuclear deal, or seeking, while deftly following up on Latin nations initiatives, to oust the disastrous Maduro dictatorship in Venezuela.

This State of the Union can also be seen as a refutation of the identity politics conceit that white cisgender males are inevitably the villains of history, ever ready to oppress women and people of color, and that virtue inheres only in their intended victims.

That just doesnt compute when you watch Trumps salute of SWAT Officer Timothy Matson, who "raced into the gunfire and was shot seven times" at the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh and brought down the hateful murderer.

There was less emphasis on divisive issues the border "barrier," as Trump has taken to calling it, and abortion than many predicted. On these, Democrats are at risk of getting out on flimsy limbs.

The state legislation that abortion rights groups passed in New York and pushed in Virginia legalizes and would legalize abortions up to, and apparently after, birth not a majority view, to say the least. And House Speaker Nancy Pelosis argument that border walls are "immoral" may not be sustainable if it segues into a case for open borders.

Absent from Trumps speech was the note of contempt for those with different views that is typical of many of his tweets. Instead, he moved from his opening positive framework to celebrate his accomplishments and assert his views without disparaging others.

That suggests he approached this speech with deeper reflection and more self discipline than usual. Will that continue?
