*sigh* Great job YouTube.
Actually, great job.
Now, i'm certain every single one of you remembers the adpocalypse, an event in which,
in 2017, a bunch of large advertising companies, such as coca cola and at&t, pulled their ads
off of YouTube.
This is what led to the current broken system that is demonetization, the monetization requirements,
and the overall purge of any sort of edgy or in any way offensive content.
Now after YouTube put these and other systems and algorithms in place, the majority of the
companies put their ads back.
Ultimately, the adpocalypse was what made the YouTube as broken as it is today.
Don't get me wrong, it's never been perfect, but starting with that event, you can see
a major shift in how YouTube handles everything.
Recently though, it has seemed like things were getting better.
Just a month ago At&t finally put ads back on YouTube after pulling away during the adpocalypse
and, for some reason, not putting ads back one year later.
Not to mention literally yesterday I made a whole video praising YouTube for how they've
actually taken some steps towards fixing the website and fixing the broken striking and
termination system.
But, alas, YouTube has messed up yet again, leading to possible, I really, really, hope
not, the second adpocalypse.
All of the information I'm fixing to read comes from the Variety article which will
be linked in the description.
YouTube is facing yet another big advertiser backlash, with Disney and Epic Games among
the marketers said to have pulled their ad spending after the Google-owned video platform
was accused of facilitating what a critic described as a "soft-core pedophilia ring."
Vlogger Matt Watson, in a Feb. 17 video on his YouTube channel MattsWhatItIs, showed
how YouTube's algorithms enabled a secret "wormhole" for pedophiles, who posted
sexual comments on videos of young girls and identified sections of the videos where they
were in compromising positions.
In some cases, users were trading child pornography in the comments section, he claimed.
Ok, now I do need to back up for just a second and clarify what happened leading up to this.
A YouTube by the name of MattsWhatItIs, just three days ago on the 17th posted a video
entitled Youtube is Facilitating the Sexual Exploitation of Children, and it's Being Monetized.
There will be a link to that video in the description and I would recommend watching
as it a very good, albeit very disturbing video, which takes a look into the very, very
dark side of YouTube.
Basically in the 20 minute long video Matt shows how he had discoverd a secret pedophile
ring going on right under everyone's noses right here on YouTube.
He talks about how basically, by just searching up something simple like yoga girl, in just
a couple of clicks you can access what's basically a secret softcore child pornography
ring.
Now pretty much all of these video are just made by minors and are the type of content
you would see your cousin with "big dreams of being a youtuber" post.
The types of videos where they just show off how to do a cartwheel or doing what, at least
to them, seems like an innocent challenge.
Videos like that.
Videos that, under normal circumstances, should get maybe 10 or so views from their friends,
and just overall nothing big.
Until, actual pedophiles manage to find these video and share it on their pedophile websites
and chat rooms all of sudden bring tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands
of views on what should just be a normal video a 10 year old kid would make.
Then in the comments of these videos you will find dozens quite possibly hundreds of timestamps
which when clicked take the video to the just the right time to show a child, often times
prepubescent children in a sexual pose or pose that would be pleasing to a sick twisted
pedophile.
Not to mention dozens of comments saying inappropriate and just downright disgusting and sickening
things about these literal children.
Comments about their body, comments talking about how attractive these children are.
Worst of all, actual links to child porn being posted in these comments.
Thankfully for the most part these got taken down quickly, although still, the fact that
that could make it through is just sad.
The biggest slap in the face, at least to me, was the fact that, after literally only
clicking on maybe, 20 of these videos, he clicked back to his recommended and practically
his whole recommended was just theses pedophile videos.
The algorithm is literally encouraging this content.
YouTube puts so much effort into making their algorithm censor the normal creators content,
and you can't say this or that or you'll immediately get demonetized, and even if you
do all the right things there's a chance you'll get demonetized.
But these video have actual advertisements playing on them are getting recommended by
YouTube.
These are actually 8 and 10 years olds just wanting to make cool videos to show their
friends and to, hopefully, get youtube success.
Unfortunately, it looks like they did get success, just not the kind they wanted.
This is all very sickening and disturbing and I really do encourage you to go and watch
Matt's video, you can tell just how much this has affected him and just how much this
has disturbed him.
Now, with all of that out of the way, back to the actual article.
In the wake of the revelations, Disney has suspended its advertising spending on YouTube,
Bloomberg reported.
(Disney reps did not respond to requests for comment.)
Other advertisers that have frozen their YouTube ad spending include Epic Games, maker of "Fortnite,"
and Nestle U.S., per the report.
YouTube did not comment on advertisers suspending their spending.
According to YouTube, after Watson posted his exposé, the service deleted accounts
and channels that violated its policies and also reported illegal activity to law-enforcement
authorities.
A youtube representative also went on to explain:
"Any content — including comments — that endangers minors is abhorrent, and we have
clear policies prohibiting this on YouTube," a YouTube rep said in a statement.
"There's more to be done, and we continue to work to improve and catch abuse more quickly."
Now, whereas with the first adpocalypse, I didn't blame YouTube for the advertiser
leaving.
I do blame them for the terrible things they did in response to that but, the companies
leaving was just plain and simple just the advertisers trying to force YouTube obey by
their rules and to control YouTube.
This time though, there is no one to blame except YouTube.
And I guess the pedophiles that YouTube just let continue on the platform.
This is not the first time YouTube has been called out on this.
All the way back in November of 2017, YouTube first spoke about this.
We have historically used a combination of automated systems and human flagging and review
to remove inappropriate sexual or predatory comments on videos featuring minors.
Comments of this nature are abhorrent and we work with NCMEC to report illegal behavior
to law enforcement.
Starting this week we will begin taking an even more aggressive stance by turning off
all comments on videos of minors where we see these types of comments.
You can see in Matt's video how some of the videos comments sections are disabled,
but the vast majority are not.
YouTube has known about this problem, has spoken about this problem, and yet has done
practically nothing about this problem.
The algorithm is literally recommending these videos.
Literally, if you click one of these videos, then your whole suggested videos tab is pretty
much just these.
The algorithm FAVORS these videos.
AND YOUTUBE KNEW.
This is just plain ridiculous.
I honestly don't blame the advertisers for pulling their ads.
This is just ridiculous.
I 100% understand why they would want to pull their ads.
That being said, if the advertisers pull their ads, that doesn't just affect YouTube, that
also affects the creators like myself.
If YouTube makes a mistake, the creators have to pay the price.
The last time something like this happened, it messed up YouTube and hurt the platform
to the point that it still hasn't fully recovered to this day.
YouTube is still having to deal with broken systems that hurt creators to this day after
the last time something like this happened.
I can only imagine what's going to happen now.
Again, I really hope this all just blows over, YouTube fixes the issue and within one or
2 months time Disney and Epic Games and Nestle are all back puting ads back on YouTube.
But I'm not quite sure if that's really what's going to happen.
Things are not looking good and I know I myself am worried.
YouTube, you have no one to blame for any of this but yourself.
Due to your own stupidity, laziness, and unwillingness to fix an extremely sickening problem on your
website, you have brought this on yourself.
You can't play the victim card, you can't play the ignorance card, you plain and simple,
brought this upon yourself for no reason whatsoever.
And you know what the best part is, the people who will suffer the worst from this in the
end, is the creators, the people who, throughout all of this were innocent.
Even the video with the messed up comments, all of the original uploaders had no sinister
intentions in mind and only wanted to make innocent fun little videos which, watching
the videos, really are, disergaarding the comments, just innocent.
All of these videos, at least that I've seen, are just little kids having fun on YouTube
in videos that, themselves, don't break any guidlines.
It's just people having fun making innocent videos.
It's the commenters and the pedophiles and the scum of humanity who did this.
It's the high ups at YouTube who refused to do anything meaningful about this.
Oh yeah disabling the comments is gonna help.
Oh yeah deleting the child porn link comments although not deleting the actual users account
who posted the link, that's a great idea.
All of this is just sickening and makes me more and more lose hope for this website.
I'm sorry there weren't too many jokes in this video as really, what we're looking
at could be a very dire situation for everyone, for the high ups at YouTube, for the creators,
and for you, the viewers.
This could bring on some major consequences for everyone and, to be frank, this is just
plain out ridiculous.
Anyways guys I do thank you for watching this video, I had a totally different video planned
for today in which I talk about a fun story about how I made it to the front page or reddit,
but I guess that video will have to come out tomorrow, because this was too important to
not immediately talk about.
I've also been doing a new system in which at the very end I put a poll up asking how
much you liked the video on a 1 to 5 star scale.
I'm just kinda trying that out, I think it's a cool idea and I would appreciate
it if you would answer that poll, please do be honest.
Anyways guys, thank you for watching, please report any comments you see that are like
the one's featured here and, BYE.
