The suggestions are based on our exciting trip to San Diego.

Here are our top 10 picks:

NUMBER 1: BALBOA PARK

Balboa Park is a large urban cultural park in San Diego.

It contains numerous gardens, museums, theaters and other attractions.

The park was officially established in 19th century, making it one of the oldest parks

in the United States dedicated to public recreational use.

Several architectural landmarks were constructed for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition

and 1935 California Pacific International Exposition.

Visit the amazing Botanical Building,

Japanese Friendship Garden,

the world-famous San Diego Zoo

or San Diego Air & Space Museum. There's plenty to choose from.

NUMBER 2: LITTLE ITALY

Little Italy is a popular neighborhood in downtown San Diego featuring Italian restaurants,

bars, retail shops, home design and other stores, and it frequently hosts events such

as weekly farmers market known as the Mercato

where locals shop for fresh products, flowers and other goods.

Little Italy started as a fishing community for Italian immigrants.

It eventually became the center of tuna canning industry and was often referred to as the

"tuna capital" of the Western United States.

The tuna business disappeared by 1980s

and Little Italy transformed into a popular tourist destination.

Stop for a cup of original Italian cappuccino or a slice of pizza

and experience the real Italian spirit.

NUMBER 3: OLD TOWN

Old Town San Diego is a historic neighborhood,

consisting of reconstructed homes and craft shops in the 1800s Mission-style,

recreating life in the Mexican and early American periods.

Old Town is also the site of the first European settlement in California.

Apart from several museums, parks and historic buildings in the Old Town San Diego State

Historic Park, you can dine at one many traditional Mexican restaurants with live Mariachi bands.

There's over 100 specialty shops and annual events are organized on regular basis.

We were lucky to be there for the Mexican celebration of the "Dia de los Muertos".

NUMBER 4: SUSPENSION FOOTBRIDGE

The Spruce Street suspension bridge located

in the residential Banker's Hill neighborhood of San Diego was built in 1912 to provide

pedestrians with a link to new trolley lines across a deep canyon.

The suspension bridge eventually became San Diego's best-known "secret" and is a

popular romantic and serene spot admired by both locals and tourists and is a perfect

location for a unique San Diego selfie.

NUMBER 5: SEAPORT VILLAGE

Seaport Village is a unique shopping area

located in the heart of downtown San Diego waterfront.

The entire area is car-free and offers miles of walking paths with plazas full of shops,

restaurants, picnic areas and amazing views of the San Diego Bay.

The village features several buildings belonging to diverse architectural styles,

from Victorian to traditional Mexican.

Musical performances and other events are often taking place in one of the outdoor areas.

Seaport Village was built on "Punta de los Muertos", Spanish for Point of the Dead,

where the Spanish expedition of 1782 buried those who died during the expedition.

NUMBER 6: USS MIDWAY MUSEUM

USS Midway is a decommissioned aircraft carrier located at Navy Pier in downtown San Diego.

The ship is now serving as a maritime museum and features a collection of aircraft, which

were mostly built in Southern California.

Launched in 1945, just after the end of the Second World War, USS Midway was the largest

ship in the world until 1955 and was too big to cross the Panama Canal.

Midway served for 47 years in Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and other important operations.

You can explore the interior of USS Midway and experience what life on an aircraft carrier

was like during the cold war.

And don't miss the impressive Unconditional Surrender Statue next to the ship.

NUMBER 7: GASLAMP QUARTER

The Gaslamp Quarter, often referred to as the historic heart of San Diego

is a historical downtown district and is the place to go to

if you are looking for entertainment and night life.

Gaslamp is often the venue of festivals,

for instance, those organized around Mardi Gras, St. Patrick's Day, etc.

In the 1860s when the development of the area began, the Gaslamp Quarter was known as

New Town, in contrast to Old Town San Diego.

Now, the district is home to clubs, dive bars and cocktail lounges as well as theaters offering

diverse programs of music, comedy and drama.

NUMBER 8: CORONADO

Coronado which is Spanish for "crowned one",

is a resort city on a peninsula in San Diego Bay with one of the best beaches in America

and an amazing view of the San Diego skyline.

Coronado is easily accessible from downtown San Diego by impressive Coronado bridge.

The peninsula was home to first navy flying school

and San Diego was designated the birthplace of Naval aviation in 1961.

Visit the breathtaking Coronado Beach where you will also find the shipwreck of SS Monte Carlo.

Coronado also features a beautiful historic beachfront Hotel del Coronado, established in 1888.

Coronado lies on the geographic combination of an island connected to the mainland by

a tombolo called the Silver Strand.

NUMBER 9: MISSION BEACH

Mission Beach is a community built on a sandbank

between the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay, covering nearly two miles of ocean front,

featuring a lively boardwalk on both ocean and bay sides.

It is a popular place for surfing, sunbathing, skateboarding and other outdoor activities.

The changing rooms on Mission Beach appear in the movie Top Gun starring Tom Cruise.

You can have a drink by the ocean in of many relaxed beach-style bars or take one of the

rides in historic Belmont amusement Park in South Mission Beach

or visit SeaWorld in Mission Bay Park nearby.

Mexico's luxurious presidential plane is bound for California — without the country's new president - Duration: 7:58.

Mexico's presidential plane — a luxurious Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner outfitted with flat-screen monitors, executive meeting rooms, sleeping quarters and a shower — left for California on Monday

But Mexico's newly inaugurated president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, was not on board

Advertisement  The aircraft, purchased by Mexico in 2012 for $218.7 million, is destined for sale, a high-profile casualty of the leftist president's pledges to slash official expenditures

"I will not enter the presidential plane," Lopez Obrador vowed repeatedly during the campaign, which was marked by his populist pledge for a more austere governing style and an end to long-entrenched corruption

Advertisement  In his fiery populist oratory, the presidential aircraft was converted from a lavish conveyance to an ostentatious symbol of excess tied to the "mafia of power" — the elite clique that the president says has ruled Mexico for decades

"My face would fill with shame … to get into such a luxurious plane in a country with so much poverty," Lopez Obrador declared

The plane was used to ferry Lopez Obrador's predecessor, former President Enrique Peña Nieto, on scores of state trips, both domestic and foreign

A day after taking office, Lopez Obrador flew commercial on Sunday to the Gulf state of Veracruz, posing on the tarmac for snapshots with the captain and crew

The Mexican media ran photos of Lopez Obrador checking in at the airport like any passenger, accompanied by aides and a discreet security contingent

Advertisement  "We are going to sell all the planes and helicopters that the corrupt politicians used," he said Sunday in Xalapa, the capital of Veracruz state

Accounts of official graft in Mexico inevitably involved episodes of crooked politicians — prominent among them thuggish former Veracruz Gov

Javier Duarte, now serving a nine-year prison term for corruption — gallivanting about on official aircraft on vacations and shopping sprees

Mexico's new government has announced plans to sell off a flotilla of some 60 official airplanes and 70 helicopters

Herbs, incense, a wooden staff — Mexico's indigenous cultures take the inaugural stage to purify the new president By Cecilia Sanchez  and Patrick J

McDonnell Dec 02, 2018 | 3:00 AM  The presidential plane, named Jose Maria Morelos y Pavón, after an 19th century independence leader, took off Monday on what officials said would be its final departure from Mexico City's Benito Juarez International Airport

Its destination was the Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville, an aeronautics hub on the site of the former George Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert

There, Mexican officials said, it will be evaluated for future sale.  The official government Facebook page proclaimed the development with a kind of celebratory, mock-classified ad, employing breathless verbiage suited to the real estate postings of movie stars' Hollywood mansions

"It's going to California and is being put on sale!" the government declared, describing the "type" of plane as "presidential," "very luxurious" and "semi-new

"  Accompanying the posting were images of the twin-engine jet in its hangar and close-ups of some of its amenities — capacious cushioned seats, a king-size bed and an expansive commode with what appeared to be a marble-topped washstand next to it

Advertisement  A Mexican Air Force crew flew the jet to California.  Proceeds from the prospective sale of the presidential plane and other aircraft will go toward "social development," said Lopez Obrador, who unveiled an expansive, New Deal-style program of infrastructure construction, job creation, pensions, grants and scholarships during his inaugural address

It remains unclear how much Mexico will fetch for the already depreciated plane, whether it will need extensive retrofitting and how long it will take to sell it — while the government pays for hangar rental in the United States

A government-commissioned assessment in 2016 that backed keeping the jet estimated that the aircraft could lose 30% to 60% of its value if sold

Some question whether the whole exercise is more of a public relations episode than a cost-saver

"I don't understand," wrote Alejandro Hope, a columnist for El Universal newspaper, in a Twitter message

"Why not leave it in its [Mexican] hanger where there is no rent?"  Sending the plane to California for evaluation and sale will "maximize the value" of the aircraft, Mexico's new finance minister, Carlos Urzua Macias, told reporters

Lopez Obrador has also relinquished another perk of presidential power: Los Pinos, the sprawling presidential compound in the wooded Chapultepec parkland west of downtown

The gates of the formerly heavily guarded presidential residence were thrown open to the public last weekend, drawing scores of visitors

The new president has said he intends to remain at his private home in a middle-class district of the capital for now but will eventually move to an apartment in the National Palace in downtown Mexico City

During his campaign, Lopez Obrador said that the official residence at Los Pinos sent off "bad vibes" and was "haunted" and would be turned into a public space for art exhibitions and performances

Cecilia Sanchez of The Times' Mexico City bureau contributed to this article.

ROLLING: A California skateboard road trip of a lifetime - Duration: 6:51.

There's something about those moments before a trip.

It's like this window of anticipation for what's ahead, and for what you're about to find.

We made a list of scenic spots and gathered a team of pro skateboarders to

embark on the ultimate west coast road trip.

Is this a ticket?

That's a fair penalty.

A toll violation will be sent in the mail. Perfect, we'll never get it.

As a skateboarder, we connect to the elements. We see nature as a backdrop to

our art form.

It's not every day you get to plan out your downtime in a 30-foot RV.

A quick search in the Roadtrippers app , and we're off to the mountains

A lot of people lack that free spirit, just to go ahead and just say let's go

have a good time. To me, that's the best kind of road trip, and that's what makes

it so special

A trip is all about forward movement.

It's that motion that binds us all together.

Haunting color pictures bring to life California Gold Rush migrants in search of their fortunes - Duration: 3:55.

These haunting color photographs bring the lives of the California Gold Rush migrants to life

Matt Loughrey handed colored 13 daguerreotype images of the California Gold Rush from around the 1850, breathing fresh life into one of the turning pointing in the history of America

The 40-year-old from the west coast of Ireland colorized the stunning images as part of the 'My Colorful Past' project, which aims to bridge a gap between history and art

These pictures shed new light on the rush that ignited in January 1848 and sent 300,000 flooding to California in pursuit of their fortunes

The images originally taken on daguerreotype - a tin-type processes on metal surfaces and later onto glass and paper - document the migration towards the West Coast, which lasted for seven years until 1855

Loughrey used a technique called SMTM, which is an algorithm that understands the relationship between monochrome shades and equivalent hues of red, green and blue to color the images

The technique is said to be accurate beyond 90 per cent, with the photographs took just over two weeks to bring to life and will be part of a larger visual documentary arriving early next year

My Colorful Past project is also on Instagram with nearly 16,000 followers and includes colorized pictures throughout history

Portrait of two prospectors in the early 1850s.By the end of the gold rush in 1855, California had gone from a sparsely populated former Mexican territory, to having one of its first two U

S.Senators, John C.Frémont, selected to be the first presidential nominee for the new Republican Party, in 1856 A young girl pictured during the Gold Rush (the pictures is attributable to photographer Robert H

Vannce).Loughrey said: 'These daguerreotypes were found some time ago and have been in the back of mind to color ever since

The entertainment factor is all well and good, but the crux of the issue is making history more relatable to younger minds especially' A California gold miner in 1850 (most likely photographed by Robert H

Vance).Loughrey added: 'I am completely self-taught when it comes to colorization and as an educational tool I see it as very positive

I would urge any interested persons to take a look and see for themselves what's possible, they're guaranteed to see people in history in a far more relatable way'
