This is America. And this is American football. But not in the usual sense.Atlanta United are the club to watch in the world, because they have done something no other MLS side have achieved

They have captured the heart of a city. And given the World Cup will be part hosted by the United States in 2026, Atlanta can be seen as the end point of a long journey for the sport across the pond

Thousands of supporters joined in a victory parade on the streets of Atlanta on Monday  Atlanta United have captured the heart of the city despite only being formed 18 months ago On Monday morning, over 100,000 people turned out in Atlanta to celebrate their MLS Cup win

Their final against the Portland Timbers at the weekend was attended by more people than the last four Super Bowls

The club has only existed for around 18 months but that does not matter. In a city of broken sporting dreams, they have found a home

Monday morning's level of celebration would have seemed impossible when the US last hosted a World Cup in 1994, when Diana Ross missed her penalty and MLS was just starting up

Now Atlanta might be providing a message for teams on their own continent and around the world

It is quite simple - if you focus on fans, they will come.'When Mercedes-Benz Stadium was being designed, we thought it was going to be the lower bowl for soccer, so 29,000,' Atlanta's president Darren Eales told smail

'We thought that was quite aggressive! Thousands of delighted fans packed the streets of the city with the squad on an open-top bus 'This year we're averaging just over 55,000, so 14th in the world

We've just gone ahead of Manchester City's average crowd, PSG, Chelsea, the Milan sides… their great history, and we're doing that

Incredible.'I look back at my first year. If we write a book we'll call it Pub Crawl Your Way to Success

'We went wherever soccer fans are congregating, whether that's fans on a Saturday morning watching the or the national team, we were trying to build that club culture so we had a connection with our fanbase

'It has paid off. They may average over 55,000 but the 70,000 barrier has been broken eight times at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for soccer games

Their win on Saturday was watched by 73,019. The 'Terminus Legion' supporter group led the victory parade, singing songs and waving flags Atlanta owner Arthur Blank - affectionately known as 'Uncle Arthur' - addresses the crowds On Saturday, the go to place to buy sports jerseys online in America, Fanatics

com, saw a significant statistic. Josef Martinez, an Atlanta United player, became the first No 1 selling MLS player ever on a day

He beat out the likes of Steph Curry, LeBron James and Odell Beckham, and, in fact every sports star across the NFL, the NBA, Major League Baseball, and the NHL

Arthur Blank, Atlanta United's owner, has shared his experiences running the Atlanta Falcons and they have paid off

He spent $60million on a training facility for the players and brought in Gerardo 'Tata' Martino, formerly of Barcelona and Argentina, to be the manager

They have also brought in players on the rise rather than the wane, like Martinez and Miguel Almiron, who is now coveted by Arsenal and Newcastle

Almost as importantly, they dropped food prices by 50 per cent around the stadium and revenues increased by 16 per cent

Compare their $5 pint of beer to a trip to the bar at the StubHub Centre, where LA Galaxy play, where one can set you back over $11

That is an obvious way to win the hearts of fans, but Atlanta have taken financial hits to ensure the supporter comes first

Eales thinks there is something to be learned from it in the . Every vantage point was taken as fans braved chilly temperatures to salute their team'Every decision we make is through the prism of how do we help the supporter,' he continues

'We have a capo stand at Atlanta and that's someone who helps the chants to start on a platform

'We had it at our temporary stadium and we knew we needed it at Mercedes-Benz Stadium but we'd already sold two suites

We had to buy them back to put that there.'It was the obvious thing needed for fan experience and we didn't think twice about it

'There's a sense in other countries, including England, that you can take supporters for granted

Atlanta's triumph was especially impressive as this was just their second season in MLS'The clubs have been around for over 100 years, because of family ties, and the media rights value is so high, there's perhaps not necessarily the focus on supporter experience and engagement

'We cannot dismiss that here because we're building a club from scratch.'They've gone to everyone to build that club

There's no working class tradition around soccer in America like there is in the United Kingdom

Champions are not forged on terraced streets around football grounds. It has long been viewed as a middle class sport

Atlanta are trying to change that and engage with a segment of the country that has long been unrepresented on the pitch

It was the city's first sporting triumph since the Atlanta Braves won the World Series in 1995 Martinez hands the trophy to team-mate Michael Pankhurst during a memorable parade Happy supporters line the streets as the open-top bus drives past during Monday's parade'Kids were getting priced out of the game,' Eales said

'We have the equivalent of the underground in Atlanta called the MARTA. We had dead space in a station in the centre of downtown and we built a soccer pitch there

It's accessible.'We have now opened at another station and we're looking to do 10 across the network and that gives kids a place to play

They don't have an economic barrier to entry.'Saturday was the first time that any team from Atlanta has won a title since 1995

If a team from Liverpool won the UK's basketball championship, it would not be celebrated in the same way as Jurgen Klopp's side winning the league

But Atlanta United are legitimate. The city at large spoke about their sporting curse ahead of the final, because, frankly, this actually counted

The bus carrying the Atlanta United players drives past their Mercedes-Benz Stadium A giant replica of the MLS Cup led the procession as thousands braved chilly temperaturesThis is no passing phase

Atlanta are at the forefront of a genuine step in the evolution of the game in America

'This is a sport that attracts that younger demographic. It's a sport for a new America,' Eales adds

'I played over here in the States 25 years ago, when you were lucky to get tens of people coming to see you

'People have always been saying that this is the sport of the future. But there is no doubt that it will be one of the top leagues in the world sooner rather than later

U.S. in no hurry in negotiations with N. Korea: Trump - Duration: 1:46.

Now moving to denuclearization talks between Pyeongyang and Washington.

Talks between the two appear to have stalled,... but U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday

once again reiterated that the U.S. is in no hurry over negotiations with North Korea,

and also expressed faith in North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as a negotiating partner.

Our Kan Hyeong-woo reports.

In his latest tweet that directly mentions Kim Jong-un,...

President Trump said many people have asked him how the U.S. is

doing in its negotiations with North Korea on the denuclearization issue.

His answer is that the U.S. is in no hurry.

He also said that North Korea has "wonderful potential for great economic success" and

that Kim Jong-un sees it better than anyone and will take full advantage of it for his

people.

Trump added that the U.S. and North Korea are doing just fine.

His message can be seen as showing people that the agreements signed at the Singapore

summit in June are still valid and the two sides will continue to work towards carrying

out those promises.

At the same time, Trump could be using the message to call for concrete action from North

Korea.

He said "we are in no hurry" when asked about the negotiations with Pyeongyang.

This could be interpreted as suggesting the U.S. is in no rush as the sanctions put on

North Korea will stay as they are.

But by saying North Korea has great potential for economic success, Trump showed his willingness

to guarantee the security of the current regime.

As Trump's comments came at a time when talks between Pyeongyang and Washington do not seem

to be making much progress, it remains to be seen whether they will actually lead to

further talks between the two sides.

Healthcare Spending Hits $3.5 Trillion PER YEAR, Over $10k Per US Citizen - Duration: 4:19.

According to new reports, the United States is spending three and a half trillion dollars

annually on healthcare costs that comes to almost $11,000 per United States citizen,

a $10,739 per person to be exact at this point with how much we're spending each year on

healthcare costs, on prescription drugs, on copays and deductibles and premiums.

With all that we're spending, we can no longer afford to not have a Medicare for All system

here in the United States.

A new report, and you can actually find a link to it in the description of this video

says that if we were to enact Medicare for All and we put every United States citizen

on this, Medicare for All plan wages for workers would actually increase by about nine percent.

Expenses for corporations would decrease by eight percent, so corporations have to spend

less money so that eight percent in savings suddenly becomes eight percent in profit.

That they could either spend giving their work as a raise, which they won't, or more

likely they could give it to their CEO, but how they can do that because everybody would

have health insurance wages would increase by nine percent according to this study because

we wouldn't be paying those massive premiums for health care.

We would still be paying premiums, but they would not be as high.

We are at a point, a pivotal point in the United States in our history where we cannot

afford to stay the way we are.

We have to evolve, we have to adapt and we have to change and we have to do it pretty

damn quick.

Not just on the issue of healthcare but on issues like climate change as well, but on

the issue of health healthcare, this is something we could fix in a heartbeat.

We just refuse to do it and the problem is the public wants us to do it.

They want Medicare for All by an overwhelming majority left, right center.

Everyone, majority of everyone wants this done.

It's our elected officials that aren't doing it.

Now we have some great incoming Democrats to the House of Representatives in January,

people that are going to shake things up and they're going to push for policies like this

alongside existing people like Senator Bernie Sanders, a representative Ro Khanna, people

who are already pushing for this.

We will have more voices for it, but that still may not be enough.

I haven't seen anyone, not a single person on the republican side of the aisle in DC

and elected official saying, we should go this route and if we don't have that, then

this can never become reality.

They need to look at the numbers.

Even the Republican funded studies show that Medicare for All would save us money, but

now we're talking about nickel and diming it.

Average workers get a raise.

Corporations get a cut.

They don't have to pay as much money.

I mean, good God.

We're looking at a system where literally everyone wins, except of course the insurance

companies and they throw a lot of money around Washington DC, so to the drug companies and

that's the problem.

As long as that money exists, as long as their lobbyists are out there talking to these members

of Congress every day, we're not going to see change and this is a change that would

benefit every single person in this country.

We would all have better healthcare and we would all save money corporations to.

And yet we can't have it because Republicans in DC and plenty of Democrats as well want

to keep their options open and make sure that that money from the insurance industry, from

big Pharma, from these hospital corporations, they want to make sure that that money keeps

flowing in so we get screwed.

But they get a few extra dollars for their reelection campaign.

US lawmakers cry 'coverup' as Border Force admits a little Guatemalan girl died in custody | The New - Duration: 4:14.

The White House has defended the US Border Patrol after a seven-year-old Guatemalan girl died of exhaustion and dehydration while in custody

But the child's death – and the border agency's week-long delay in disclosing it – prompted an outcry on Capitol Hill

The case intensified scrutiny of Border Patrol detention practices and raised questions about whether agents' negligence contributed to Jakelin Caal Maquin's death

It also sparked concerns that the Trump administration's immigration crackdown has funnelled migrants into more dangerous areas along the border

Homeland Security officials said they had launched an inspector general's investigation into the death and whether regulations were followed, and were awaiting results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death

Hogan Gidley, the deputy White House press secretary, called the girl's death "a horrific, tragic situation" and "100 per cent preventable"

But he blamed Congress, and especially Democrats, for not passing what he called "some common-sense laws to disincentivise people" from crossing the border illegally

Gidley also placed responsibility for the girl's death on her father, rather than any consequence of policy decisions

"Does the administration take responsibility for a parent taking a child on a trek through Mexico to get to this country?" Gidley asked

"No." Jakelin was with her father and 161 other migrants who crossed into a remote, rugged part of New Mexico last week

They were about 90 miles north of the border around December 6 when they turned themselves in to three Border Patrol agents

The child died just over 24 hours later in custody.  She was taken to the Lordsburg Border Patrol station, Homeland Security officials said, but by the time she arrived there, she had begun to suffer seizures, and she'd stopped breathing

She was takento Providence Children's Hospital in El Paso, Texas, but died after a heart attack early on December 8

Tests at the hospital showed brain swelling and physicians diagnosed the girl with liver failure

Customs and Border Protection, the Border Patrol's parent agency, initially said the girl "reportedly had not eaten or consumed water for several days," but on Friday officials said the migrants were offered water

The agency did not publicly acknowledge the girl's death, or report it to Congress, until after The Washington Post reported it Thursday night -AAP and

Miss USA apologizes for mocking rivals English speaking skills US news - Duration: 2:33.

Miss USA apologizes for mocking rivals English speaking skills US news

Sarah Rose Summers, who made fun of contestants not knowing English, said she 'would never intend to hurt another'

Sarah Rose Summers, who made fun of contestants not knowing English, said she 'would never intend to hurt another'

The woman who holds the Miss USA 2018 title has apologized after she was captured on video mocking two of her fellow competitors for their English speaking skills.

In a video posted to Instagram, Sarah Rose Summers made light of Nat Rern, Miss Cambodia and H'Hen Nie, Miss Vietnam. In the video, she said of Nie: "She's so cute and she pretends to know so much English and then you ask her a question after having a whole conversation with her and she goes … " she said before mimicking a confused nod and smile.

Then Summers makes fun of another contestant for not speaking English, apparently unaware that the language is not universally understood around the world.

"Miss Cambodia is here and doesn't speak any English and not a single other person speaks her language. Can you imagine?" she said. "Francesca said that would be so isolating and I said yes and just confusing all the time."

Colombia's Valeria Morales and Australia's Francesca Hung also appear in the videos laughing along with Summers.

Among the many people on social media to register offense at the comments was the popular Instagram account Diet Prada whose repost of the video, taken from Morales' account, has since gone viral.

"This is basically what normalized xenophobia looks like," they wrote. "If she's trying to show empathy, the condescending, intolerant tone tells a different story. A reminder that you're participating in a competition in a country/continent where English is NOT the primary language."

After a spate of backlash, Summers offered an apology on Friday.

The Miss Universe competition "is an opportunity for women from around the world to learn about each other's cultures, life experiences, and views," she wrote. "We all come from different backgrounds and can grow alongside one another."

"In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize. My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman. I would never intend to hurt another."

Summers' apology may be enough to stem the controversy but the entire ordeal is a reminder that it doesn't matter how beautiful you are, the stereotype of the ugly American often holds true.

Florida executes murderer Jose Jimenez after U.S. Supreme Court denies last ditch appeal Sun Senti - Duration: 2:26.

Florida executes murderer Jose Jimenez after U.S. Supreme Court denies last ditch appeal Sun Senti

A man convicted of fatally beating and stabbing a South Florida woman 26 years ago during a burglary has been executed.

Authorities say 55 year old Jose Antonio Jimenez was pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m. Thursday after a lethal injection at Florida State Prison in Starke.

Jimenez was convicted of the October 1992 killing of 63 year old Phyllis Minas in her apartment.

Jimenez was burglarizing Minas apartment when she came home and surprised him. Investigators said Minas, a longtime employee of the Miami Dade Court Clerks office, was stabbed eight times.

Jimenez is the 28th inmate executed in Florida since Gov. Rick Scott took office in 2011. Thats the most of any Florida governor since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976.

Jimenez also was convicted of a prior burglary and second degree murder in the 1990 death of another woman in Miami Beach.

Over the years, the inmate has filed various appeals. In an appeal filed with the U.S. Supreme Court this week, Jimenez and his attorneys said detectives who investigated the case gave false or, at best, misleading testimony, and that several key police reports were lost.

Additionally, his attorneys asked the court to stay the execution and consider whether Floridas lethal injection protocol constitutes cruel and unusual punishment that violates the Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The lawyers point to the February execution of Eric Branch using the same drugs in which experts later concluded he felt significant pain, including screaming out the word murderers! several times as he thrashed about on the gurney.

Gov. Rick Scott signed the death warrant for Jimenez last summer and scheduled the execution for August. The Supreme Court stayed that, but lifted the stay in October.

According to corrections officials, Jimenez would be the 28th inmate executed in Florida since Scott took office in 2011 if the procedure is carried out Thursday evening. That would be more than any other Florida governor since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976.

Arsenal eye lucrative pre-season tour to the United States - Duration: 2:30.

Arsenal are in talks over a potentially lucrative pre-season tour of the United States next summer

Sportsmail understands the Gunners are exploring a trip across the Atlantic ahead of next season as they looked to make a firmer imprint on the American market

Arsenal are looking at potential five-game stay; with stops on the west and east coast

Games in Chicago and New York are among the options Arsenal chiefs are exploring

Meanwhile, Unai Emery is set to welcome back Aaron Ramsey for Sunday's trip to Southampton

The Wales international injured an ankle against Manchester United last week, causing him to miss the victories over Huddersfield and Qarabag

But Ramsey is set to be available for the trip to St Mary's. Laurent Koscielny and Mesut Ozil are also scheduled to make the trip to the south coast after returning from injuries against Qarabag on Thursday night

Koscielny's return after seven months out with a ruptured Achilles comes as a particular boost with Emery facing a huge central defensive crisis

All three of his first-choice centre backs are unavailable; Rob Holding out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury while Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi are suspended

On his selection problems for the clash against Southampton, Emery said: 'I believe in my players, in our players and I think we can use other players [as] centre backs

'I have one idea in my mind but we need to [work on Friday and Saturday] and to know how they will recover physically, for the possibility of playing Sunday

I think every player is now OK to help us in the position we need.'
