President Trump�s stock markets hit many records in his first year in office as noted

The stock market on Wednesday, January 17th, 2018, says it all.

On that day the Dow broke 26,000 points for the first time in its history.

As a result the Dow broke the record for the fastest 500, 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000,

6,000 and 7,000 point increases between major milestones in the history of the Dow.

All of these increases occurred since Donald Trump was elected President.

Yesterday the Dow landed at 26,392.

The President also stated in a question and answer period that he believes that if Hillary

Clinton would have won the Presidency that the markets would be down nearly 50% because

of the business suffocating policies of the Obama Administration that the Hillary team

was sure to continue.

Next month Americans will receive more money in their checks due to lower taxes from the

Trump Tax Cut law just passed.

As time goes by, Americans will see more and more the blessing that President Trump won

the 2016 election.

Engineers say the tunnel should be replaced as soon as possible, at a cost of $12.7 billion.

In 2015, the Obama administration agreed to supply half the funding for it, and designs are nearly complete.

But in December, President Trumps Federal Transit Administration sent a letter to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey declaring the deal nonexistent..

Local officials were flabbergasted, and are ringing alarm bells about the potential consequences of further delay: A failure could shut down the system for months and throw the regionscommuters into chaos.

We already knew we had a capacity problem, and that it was choking economic growth, says Tom Wright, president of the Regional Plan Association, an independent think tank focusing on challenges facing the New York area.

Now we have the imminent threat of losing that connection.

Its like playing Russian roulette with the economy of the Northeast..

The Gateway project — a collection of upgrades along a 10-mile span including the Hudson Tunnel — is just one among many desperately needed infrastructure priorities that have been in limbo under the Trump administration.

But Gateway is also key to the entire rail network from Washington, D.C.

to Boston, known as the Northeast Corridor, which carries 800,000 people daily.

According to the federally-chartered Northeast Corridor Commission, a shutdown of the service would cost the economy $100 million per day.

And the Hudson tunnel isnt the only point of possible failure: A handful of connections, including a bridge over the Susquehanna River in Maryland, and the Baltimore & Potomac tunnel, are in poor shape as well.

Does it matter to the federal government that the Northeast Corridor is a functioning place? I think you could make the argument that it does, says Robert Puentes, director of the nonprofit Eno Center for Transportation.

We dont seem to recognize the disproportionate influence that some projects have.

This isnt just a project for New York and New Jersey, this is a project for the country..

Funding for the corridor has been snarled by the larger spending battle in Washington, and thedifficulty of allocating huge sums to one region when politicians would rather spread it around.

In 2010, Congress set up the Northeast Corridor Commission, a partnership of Amtrak and mid-Atlantic governments.

It analyzes which projects are needed and how much theyll cost, and determined that the total for repairs along the line would be $38 billion.

In a spending bill passed last year, the House included $500 million for Northeast Corridor upgrades that could serve as a down payment on that total.

But the Senate included only $26 million in its appropriations measure, and the final outcome is still up in the air, with the White House demanding billions of dollars for a wall on the border with Mexico.

The Northeast Corridor is now at a political disadvantage in Washington because it connects Democratic cities with limited influence.

To navigate that environment, private interests that depend on Amtrak or that would profit from rebuilding it — including the Wall Street-heavy Financial Services Roundtable, the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and the nations largest engineering and construction firms — formed a coalition in late 2016 and hired a former Republican House staffer who worked on transportation issues as a lobbyist.

The hope: Businesses that have influence on so many issues in D.C., from banks to pharmaceutical companies, might have enough pull to win federal funding for a transportation network that they use every day.

Like Dan Fitzpatrick, president of Citizens Banks mid-Atlantic region and a member of the coalition, who finds himself on Amtrak at least once a week.

The business of banking is the business of relationships and people, so we need to be able to see our clients, Fitzpatrick says.

Last week, a handful of Republican representatives whose constituents depend on the Northeast Corridor — Pennsylvanias Ryan Costello, Patrick Meehan and Lou Barletta as well as Pete King of Long Island, New York — sent a letter to House leadership pleading for the $500 million that had been promised.

The business-backed Coalition for the Northeast Corridor sent a similar plea to the Senate, but have so far received no commitments.

President Trump, who has business interests along the corridor himself, has promised an infrastructure plan and the Northeast Corridor may get a piece of that if it comes to fruition.

Officials have said it would include about $200 billion in federal funding, and applications would be evaluated based on how much revenue local governments could raise to match any allocation.

Since New York and New Jersey earmarked funds for rail projects, the Amtrak lines would be a strong contender.

But that plan depends on Congress appropriating the money, which became more difficult after it passed a tax bill thats expected to increase the federal deficit by at least $1 trillion.

A spokesman for Senate Appropriations Chairman Thad Cochran said the senator is reserving judgment on the White Houses infrastructure proposal until its finalized.

The U.S.

Chamber of Commerce has proposed raising the gas tax to pay for infrastructure projects and Trump has signaled openness to the idea, but that route has faced opposition from conservative Republicans.

Meanwhile, the delay may already be constraining the citys economy.

Kathryn Wylde, president of the Partnership for New York City, a business group that is also a member of the Coalition for the Northeast Corridor, surveyed 50 CEOs of international companies about their plans for New York.

Literally all of them identified the capacity and quality and reliability of the transportation system as their number one concern about additional expansion in the New York metro area, she said.

The warning comes after the administration of U.S.

President Donald Trump took a harder line on policies initiated by his predecessor Barack Obama on issues ranging from Beijings role in restraining North Korea to Chinese efforts to acquire U.S.

strategic industries.

Earlier this month, AT&T was forced to scrap a plan to offer its customers Huawei handsets after some members of Congress lobbied against the idea with federal regulators, sources told Reuters.

The U.S.

government has also blocked a string of Chinese acquisitions over national security concerns, including Ant Financials proposed purchase of U.S.

money transfer company MoneyGram International.

The lawmakers are also advising U.S.

companies that if they have ties to Huawei or China Mobile, it could hamper their ability to do business with the U.S.

government, one aide said, requesting anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

One of the commercial ties senators and House members want AT&T to cut is its collaboration with Huawei over standards for the high-speed next generation 5G network, the aides said.

Another is the use of Huawei handsets by AT&Ts discount subsidiary Cricket, the aides said.

China Mobile, the worlds biggest mobile phone operator, did not respond to requests for comment.

AT&T declined to comment but said that it had made no decisions on 5G suppliers.

U.S.

lawmakers who have in the past expressed concerns about the prospect of the deal between AT&T and Huawei either declined to comment or were not immediately available.

Huawei declined to comment but earlier this week told Reuters that it sells its equipment through more than 45 of the worlds top 50 carriers and puts the privacy and security of its customers as its top priority.

National security experts fear that any data from a Huawei device, for example about the location of the phones user, would be available to Chinese government intelligence services.

In 2012, Huawei and ZTE Corp were the subject of a U.S.

investigation into whether their equipment provided an opportunity for foreign espionage and threatened critical U.S.

infrastructure - a link that Huawei has consistently denied.

The next wave of wireless communication has enormous economic and national security implications.

Medical Care in the U.S. - Duration: 6:19.

Hey there crazies.

It's been a while.

I warned you I might disappear from the vlog because of all the doctor's appointments.

The last year has been pretty hellish for me, but as you can tell I'm feeling a little better.

Anyway, I wanted to stop in to share some things I learned about medicine in general

and about how the medicine works in the U.S.

Some of it is good, some of it is bad, and some of it is middlest.

Prepare for some nuance!

Let's start with insurance companies.

They suck!

Just to clarify, I don't have insurance through any of my jobs, because part-time,

but I do have personal insurance for my wife and me through the marketplace.

Though, we don't really get the actual perks from the Affordable Care Act

because, apparently, we make too much.

Anyway, I've had a personal plan directly through an insurance company for

many years.

On top of a bunch of little glitches that I'm always calling them to fix,

Premiums go up every year, so every 2 to 3 years I have to downgrade my plan so I can keep

affording it.

For the record, that's not because of the ACA.

Premiums always go up.

It has more to do with insurance payout forecasts, than it does with government policy.

But let's set premiums aside for a minute and talk about actual medical bills.

Anyone who has a personal plan knows that they barely cover anything

at least until you meet your deductible, which of course is never.

Insurance companies always make sure that those are sufficiently large.

However, they are still helping you every time you get a bill, sort of.

Even if the insurance isn't actually paying anything, they do negotiate prices.

For medical and dental care in 2017, I paid a total $5,125.

That's the total cost my insurance company approved

not the amount that hospitals and doctors tried to charge me.

The original bills in 2017 came to a grand total of $24,764,

almost 5 times what I actually paid.

Thanks insurance company!

Even if you include the premiums I paid: $600/month for 12 months comes to $7,200.

Add that to the $5,125 from earlier

and I still only paid half of what I would have paid without insurance.

This is why people without insurance get totally screwed over in the U.S.

Although, I put negotiate in big-whopping air quotes for a reason.

What the insurance company is really doing is saying "no" to fake prices.

Let me give you an example.

Last August, I got a CT scan.

The hospital tried to charge me $4,473,

not including what a doctor wanted to charge for reading the results.

Just for the scan,

which is ridiculous!

There's no way that CT scanner costs $4,473 to run for a few minutes.

So what happens next?

The hospital bills the insurance company.

Then the insurance company comes back and says "no, that's ridiculous."

Then the hospital says "You know, you're right.

Here's a more reasonable amount."

The insurance company approves it and pays whatever they were going to pay,

which, remember is probably nothing.

And the hospital bills you for the rest, which is probably everything.

The amount that finally got approved: $447.26.

Literally 1/10th of the original amount.

1/10th !!!!!!

Which means the hospital knows they can charge $447.26 and still make a little profit,

but they tried to charge 10 times that anyway.

Ladies, Gentleman, Non-Binaries, that's what we call: "Price Gouging."

I know how a CT scanner works and I could believe it could cost a few hundred dollars to run it.

Totally believable.

The $4,473 is a fake price.

Hospitals have fake prices like these for every procedure code,

all in a record called a master ledger, grand master

charge master!

It's called a charge master.

The hospital looks like it's giving the insurance company a huge discount,

the insurance company looks like it's negotiating a price way down for you.

It's a win-win except for you and me.

Last year, I got half-off of the fake prices, but paid almost 2.5 times the real ones,

because we can't get the real prices without paying insurance premiums.

They're helping you with a problem they created, but we can't do anything about it.

This will continue without proper government involvement.

Government involvement that asks the right questions and actually solves the right problems.

In the meantime, vote accordingly and get insurance.

It's a necessary evil.

Last, but certainly not least, medical diagnosis.

I mentioned at the beginning of this rant that I've been having health trouble.

I have had an unimaginable number of blood tests, urine sample tests, stool sample tests,

a CT scan, a tilt table test, a heart ultrasound, an endoscopy, and a colonoscopy.

Everything has come back negative, except the tilt table test.

So I, for sure, know that I have Vasovagal Syncope.

Basically, my vagus nerve is super sensitive.

Unfortunately, that nerve controls a lot of unconscious activity in the human body,

so, if it gets overly-stimulated,

I get dizzy and pass out, among other things.

And, for the test to work, they had to induce it while I was hooked to a bunch of equipment.

It was the worst medical test I have ever experienced.

I'm grateful I don't have to do it twice.

Anyway, it doesn't solve all my problems.

My nerve is still getting triggered for some reason which no one can figure out.

But it did let the doctors know to get me on some medication that raises my blood pressure,

so I don't pass out

and, let me tell you, huge improvement.

I feel like a new man.

I do still have some symptoms to figure out, but they're the more mild ones.

I feel like I can actually function while we try to figure the rest of this out.

And this brings me to my last bit of knowledge:

Doctors aren't stupid.

They know what they're doing and they know a lot!

They just don't have all the answers for everything.

Nobody does.

Anyone who tells you they have all the answers is either delusional or they're lying.

Medical diagnoses is hard.

Especially for someone like me with lots of symptoms and very few definitive signs.

I'm being passed off to some super medical specialists

but they're booked out for, like, 6 months, so that appointment isn't until this summer.

In the meantime, I'm on medication that makes me a functioning human being.

Beijing-based Sinovel broke the law in its efforts to obtain software developed by the U.S.

company, AMSC, to manage the flow of electricity from wind turbines into electrical grids, they said.

Sinovel nearly destroyed an American company by stealing its intellectual property, Assistant Attorney General John Cronan said in a statement Wednesday following the verdict.

The conviction comes at a sensitive time for business relations between the U.S.

and China.

President Trump on Monday slapped tariffs on imports of solar panels, a big Chinese industry.

His administration is also investigating Chinese practices that result in the illegal transfer of U.S.

commercial secrets.

The Chinese company said in a statement that its taking measures to protect the companys interests, and will turn to legal means to safeguard the companys legal rights and protect the rights of its minority holders.

Its shares dropped nearly 4% in Shanghai on Thursday following the guilty verdict from a jury in Wisconsin.

Back in March 2011, the Chinese company ordered $800 million worth of AMSC (AMSC)products and services.

Instead of honoring the contract, prosecutors say Sinovel immediately conspired to steal AMSCs copyrighted information and trade secrets.

Two Sinovel employees then convinced an AMSC employee to secretly download source code from an AMSC computer.

Sinovel used the technology to produce new wind turbines and to retrofit existing ones with the U.S.

companys technology. It then refused to pay the $800 million it owed AMSC.

Following the theft, the value of AMSCs assets fell by more than $1 billion and almost 700 jobs were lost, according to evidence presented at the trial.

Sinovel was convicted of conspiracy to commit trade secret theft, theft of trade secrets and wire fraud.

It could face billions of dollars in penalties.

Sentencing is set for June 4.

The verdict sends a strong and clear message that the theft of ideas and ingenuity is not a business dispute; its a crime and will be prosecuted as such, U.S.

Attorney Scott Blader said in the statement.
