Hello From the Dark Side - Remembering XXXTentacion - Duration: 6:53.

I believe that when a person is born the world is their oyster babies are

malleable you can race a kid to be almost anything a baby from an abusive

family and the most dangerous ghetto can be raised to achieve great things in

the cutting-edge fields of their day but unfortunately this is most often not

what happens for every success story there are countless others who fall by

the wayside and failed to escape the vicious cycle filling the world with

more of the same hatred and anger imposed upon them by their family and

community it's hard to blame someone for their actions when they've been beaten

down by everyone around them for their entire life jaws say on Freud was a

rapper that went by the name xxx Tenkasi own Rx for short he was born in 1998 in

the small city of Plantation Florida X's life was marked by danger and violence

from the young age he was raised mainly by his grandmother

due largely to his mother's financial situation and was often bounced back and

forth between the two of them one of the most famous anecdotes from exes early

life recounts the time he tried to stab a man who was bothering his mother at

the age of six this disturbing occurrence was not an isolated incident

X was kicked out of his school choir after attacking another child and was

later expelled from middle school for fighting it was during these years that

he was inspired by his favorite new metal and hard rock bands and to learn

piano and guitar X dropped out of high school in the tenth grade and is around

this time that he was sent to a juvenile detention center for armed robbery it

was there that he met close friend and longtime collaborator ski-mask the slump

guard after their release they decided to get clean and pursue careers in music

X his first track uploaded to SoundCloud in 2014 was called vice city it blew up

immediately and inspired him to create more music along the way developing his

style that was simultaneously meditative in apocalyptically angry ex and his

friends pioneered the noun Soundcloud aesthetic what is happiness

buddies on this text I fill it on this what would you pick is in the press on

exes time in the spotlight was marred by crime from the beginning to the end in

2016 not long after he was able to finally quit his job as a call center

operator and do music full-time he was arrested and charged with robbery and

assault with a deadly weapon not long after posting bail he was once

again arrested and charged with false imprisonment witness tampering an

aggravated battery of a pregnant victim and the controversy that remained

unresolved until the day he died I think you get the idea there's a laundry list

of reasons why X was a bad person footage of him beating innocent people

exists all over the internet many people chose to boycott his music over the

alleged abuse of his girlfriend and even Spotify briefly removed him from their

company made playlists josei was a bad person I won't deny it he hurt a lot of

people and whether or not it was because other people hurt him does nothing to

excuse actions but the point of this video is that he's a brilliant

influential artist who didn't deserve to die during his time as an artist X

provided millions of kids with catharsis to his music his songs were some of the

darkest and most violent to ever reach mainstream popularity everyone who hears

them knows immediately that his music comes from a place of extreme pain the

most common themes in X's music are suicide

violence and depression the heavy distortion of his beats and vocals

reflects his personality and past jaw say was so well-acquainted with tragedy

and violence that he would often talk about his own death and how you've hoped

to leave behind a positive legacy for his fans and family Joss say on Fri was

20 years old when he was shot to death in Deerfield Beach Florida outside a

motorcycle shop just three months before his death he had excitedly announced

that he was getting a GED and going to college I never thought I would ever say

this but I'm excited to go to college I would do better than those before me I

was the past all of you on the day of his death he knows a charity event

planned for the next weekend in his home state it's easy

to call yourself the good guy and celebrate the violent death of a young

man who did awful things still had a lifetime to redeem himself life is

sacred all of it to know that the hip-hop community is still facing the

same problems that it was 22 years ago when Tupac and Biggie were gunned down

in the street is horrific the author Seth Adam Smith wrote that one human

life is worth more than all the treasures of the earth as we see time

and time again we live in a world where that invaluable message is obscured by a

common desire for wealth and status celebrating the murder of another person

is the worst perspective to take in the wake of exes death to laugh at the dead

body of a youth is a truly distorted crime against humanity the singer in

rapper Jay Dana wrote this no one can be so self-righteous that they are happy

when it youth dies the young still have the capability to reform for those who

are so woke that their compassion is asleep remember this if Malcolm X was

killed at the age of 20 he would have died an abuser a thief an addict and a

narrow-minded depressed and violent criminal for the record I was never in

support of his ways especially his domestic abuse check thought to be

horrific but I would never humanize an individual without

criticizing the society and circumstance in which they were raised especially

someone under 21 we don't know how we would turn out if placed in axis

circumstances an overwhelming majority of people would end up no better than X

and I'm sure that most of us would end up even worse than him he wasn't

innocent and we can't martyr him but no one

deserves to be shot dead at 20 years old and die by themselves in their car while

strangers film it for snapchat X will be remembered for the cold stark beauty of

his music he'll be remembered for those he helped heal with his art life doesn't

adhere to a movie-like narrative as much as we want to force it to make sense

bad people do good things and good people do bad things

compassion and thoughtfulness are necessary for positive change I'm sorry

for jaws victims I'm sorry for Joseph nothing good comes out of violence this

has been Volksgeist thank you for watching

Dark Mofo swimmers take the plunge for annual winter solstice dip - Duration: 3:49.

A record number of naked backsides have galloped down a Hobart beach into the water for the annual mad dash of Dark Mofo's winter solstice nude swim

With the air temperature hovering around 7 degrees Celsius, a record number of participants arrived in the dark to don red swimming caps supplied by organisers and steel themselves for the event, held annually as part of the Museum of Old and New Art's (MONA) festival of the bizarre

The stampede began at 7.42am, with waves of bodies throwing off the towels and heading towards the River Derwent, where a relatively tropical water temperature of around 14C awaited

In 2017, just over 1000 people registered for the event, catching out organisers who had factored in a number of no-shows – resulting in too many bums and not enough towels

This year more than 2200 signed up, with Dark Mofo learning the lesson of 2017, with plenty of linen on hand this morning at Long Beach in Sandy Bay

Come crunch time, organisers said 1537 punters turned up to get wet –a new record

The inaugural swim in 2013 was almost scuttled after police threatened to arrest participants for endangering public decency, with a senior police officer stating "whilst other people and other councils and other jurisdictions may have their own beliefs, here in Tasmania the fact is we are ensuring nobody is offended by this behaviour"

Following support from the government, the event was back on, with the then-police minister explaining he had called on the parties to come together and find a way to allow the nude swim to proceed

The swim coincides with similar events around the world marking the shortest day of the year, including a nude swim in Canberra

As part of their long-running tradition, Antarctic expeditioners cut a hole in the ice near Casey research station, with 21 team members braving the water temperature of minus 2 degrees Celsius

The early morning dip has gone on to become emblematic of the Dark Mofo festival, which has featured a number of performances that have challenged the public to examine their definition of art and performance

MONA founder David Walsh said the controversies have been good for business, with widespread acceptance now allowing the festival to be instrumental in boosting tourism numbers to the island

Dark Mofo runs until Sunday night and will culminate with an effigy of a giant cave spider carried aloft through the city centre and set alight at the end of the Ogoh-Ogoh parade

Lighten Dark Underarms With Natural Ingredients - Duration: 11:01.

Lighten Dark Underarms With Natural Ingredients

Excessive use of deodorant, waxing, perspiration… These are factors that can stain under the arms.

These dark marks are not only unsightly but also doesnt allow the pores in that area to breathe well.

In the following article, well discuss homemade ingredients you can use to lighten your underarms.

What are the causes of dark underarms?.

Some of the darkest parts of the body are the elbows, knees, and underarms.

This is because they are areas where rubbing with clothing or repetitive motions occur most.

The use of certain beauty products such as antiperspirant or hair removal wax may darken the area under the arms.

Other causes are excessive shaving, certain creams, lack of exfoliation or poor hygiene and sweating.

All of these cause an accumulation of dead skin cells.

The first step in reducing these stains is daily washing with a sponge or brush and mild soap.

Keeping the area hydrated with natural creams is also important.

Homemade remedies to lighten your underarms.

If youre a little embarrassed to raise your arms because of dark armpit stains, we recommend that you try the following natural remedies:.

1,Lemon and baking soda.

The first of the ingredients is a stain remover par excellence.

The second acts as an exfoliant.

Together, they become an effective homemade remedy to lighten the underarm area.

It also reduces excessive sweating and bad odor.

Do not use after shaving as it may cause burning.

Ingredients.

2 tablespoons of baking soda (20 g).

Juice from ½ a lemon. Steps.

Combine the baking soda and juice in a bowl.

Mix until you have a consistent paste.

Apply to the underarms after bathing using circular motions.

Repeat every day, always at night (remember lemon stains the skin when it comes in contact with the sun).

2, Lemon.

If you dont have baking soda, or want an even easier solution to dark underarms, simply cut a lemon in half and rub on each underarm for a few minutes.

Let it sit for 15 minutes.

Then, rinse well with warm water.

Repeat twice a week at night.

3,Exfoliate with a pumice stone.

Take advantage of your shower time to exfoliate your underarms and remove dead skin cells as well as ingrown hairs.

Its as easy as rubbing the area with a pumice stone while the skin is wet, so it doesnt irritate or hurt.

After the shower, apply a moisturizing cream.

4,Lemon and sugar.

Sugar has similar properties to baking soda as it can be used as a effective exfoliant.

The best part? You can enjoy the benefits of this homemade remedy several times per week.

Ingredients. Juice from ½ a lemon.

1 tablespoon of sugar (10 g). Steps.

Squeeze the lemon and pour the juice into a glass.

Add the sugar and mix well until it forms a sandy paste.

Apply in the armpits using a circular motion.

Wait 15 minutes before rinsing with plenty of water.

Dry with a cotton towel using gentle strokes (without rubbing).

Apply a moisturizer when finished.

5, Potato.

The juice from a potato has many health benefits for the skin, and the best part is it doesnt irritate (it can even be used by people with sensitive skin).

Steps.

Its very simple: peel and cut a potato in slices.

Then, lightly rub onto the underarms.

An alternative is to shred the potato and apply it like a mask.

For each option, allow the potato to work for 15 minutes and then rinse.

These can be repeated daily.

6, Yogurt.

In order to benefit from this remedy, you should use natural or Greek yogurt.

One tablespoon is sufficient for each underarm.

Apply and wait for 20 minutes.

Itll soften the skin and reduce stains little by little.

You can repeat this treatment every day.

7,Oats, honey, and lemon.

This recipe combines two ingredients with exfoliating properties and another which works to eliminate stains, making it incredibly effective.

Although it can be used all over the body, its recommended for use on the underarms once per week.

Ingredients:.

2 tablespoons of oats (20 g).

1 tablespoon of honey (25 g).

Juice from ½ a lemon. Steps.

Place the oats and honey into a bowl.

Add the lemon juice and mix well.

When you obtain an even paste, lightly massage it onto the underarms.

Leave it on for 15 minutes.

Then, rinse with plenty of warm water.

You can use some moisturizing cream when finished.

8,Coconut oil.

This essential oil is very good for the skin in general and also acts as an effective stain remover.

Because it contains vitamin E, it hydrates the skin and also works as a natural deodorant.

Simply soak a cotton ball in coconut oil and apply it to the underarms every morning.

9, Cucumber.

No list is complete without including a beauty treatment with this vegetables superior skin properties.

Steps.

Cut a cucumber into slices and rub onto the underarms.

Leave on for 20 minutes and then rinse.

Repeat 3 times per week.

10, Cucumber, lemon, and turmeric.

Lastly, a home remedy to lighten the underarms with ease.

It has the ability to remove stains and also exfoliate and soften the skin.

Ingredients. Juice from ½ a lemon.

½ cucumber.

1 teaspoons of turmeric powder (5 g).

Steps:. Peel and shred the cucumber.

Place the grated cucumber, lemon juice and turmeric in a bowl.

Apply to the underarms, leave it on for 20 minutes and rinse.

Ariana Grande Dances In The Dark For Her & Nicki Minaj's 'The Light Is Coming' Video - Duration: 3:41.

The light is here! Ariana Grande dropped her new music video for her and Nicki Minaj's track 'The Light Is Coming' and it's AMAZING

Check it out here!    Ariana Grande, 24, is having a busy month. From her love life to promotions of her upcoming album Sweetener, fans have a ton of new Ari-content to be excited about

The newest drop from the artist is the video for her latest single, "The Light Is Coming," featuring Nicki Minaj, 35

Watch the video here.  As previously teased on her Instagram, it includes tons of shots of the singer dancing in a dark forest with a bright orb of light

But she threw us a curve ball by multiplying into multiple versions of her dancing self

In case you didn't know, Ariana is a brand ambassador for Reebok, and as part of her collaboration, she debuted the visual on the athletic wear company's website for the first 24 hours of its release

She can also be seen rocking a pair of Reebok Rapide sneakers in the video.    Fans didn't need to wait long after the song was released to see its accompanying visual

The single was dropped around midnight ET on June 20, with the video coming just 12 hours later

While this is a lot to enjoy at once, it'll be another month before we hear more from the "No Tears Left To Cry" hitmaker's fourth studio album

She previously promised that she'd be dropping something on the 20th of each month before the LP comes out, so the next song won't be here until July 20

But after that, there will be less than a month until the album's release date of Aug

17. It's going to be a pretty great summer for Ari's fans!  This also isn't the only Nicki and Ariana collab we've been blessed with lately

The duo also worked together on the rapper's track, "Bed" from her own forthcoming album, Queen

Ariana also partnered up with Troye Sivan, 23, for his recent bop, "Dance To This

" So there's a ton of ways to listen to the "Side To Side" singer right now, and all of them are excellent options

Not gonna lie though, I'm probably most looking forward to Ariana's currently unreleased song "Pete" from Sweetener, which is (obviously) based on her fiancé Pete Davidson, 24

But until that comes out, I'll be watching her newest music video!

DARK SOULS: The Ornstein and Smough Challenge (turn on CC for commentary) - Duration: 15:01.

Hello everyone

Here's me, getting sat on

And welcome to the Smough challenge

The objective: Kill Smough first, then Super Ornstein

Which with this build, is a lo t harder than it sounds!

Oh, I died.

Not to worry, first we have some failed attempts

During these failures, I'll explain some tactics and my reasons for certain actions

I'm used to seeing this screen, in this challenge I died hundreds of times.

I wonder if it went over a thousand tries? Maybe?

You can see my character stats at the end of the video.

To summarise:

My character is level 45

As you can see, I have the Black Iron armour set (not upgraded)

And the Gravelord Sword (+2)

For this challenge, I decided not to change any of my armour or equipment, or level up at all

I'm too slow to run past the knights without getting hit

So I block them before running away

This challenge took me a few days and required a lot of patience and determination!

However, I listened to music and podcasts during the challenge

So I was getting entertained whilst I died hundreds of times

If you sprint past the pillar like that

the knight usually goes right

Giving you enough time to avoid all the incoming attacks

As soon as I enter, I move forward and block

Because Ornstein often charges like this

If you are slow the knights can hit you through the fog

In this challenge I only attack Smough

Note how I've moved so the pillar blocks Smoughs attack

You can safely run around Smough when he is slamming

If you are close enough, you don't have to roll

Smoughs bum slam is the best opportunity to get in hits

That is, if Ornstein doesn't ruin it!

With this character its very hard to avoid Smoughs charge

You can block it but it leaves you open

My hero is slow, so I have to back up and block

I'm trying to lead him into the pillar, where I'll be safe

Unfortunately he doesn't get stopped on it

And with no stamina, the end is nigh!

Getting pinned into a wall or a corner is usually a death sentance in this fight

And Smough's fat body always obscures the camera

I got unlucky with Smough's repeated charges in that run

Why didn't I try to roll dodge?

Well, I was in the open

And I didn't want to take damage and give an opening to Ornstein

I usually back into that doorway, but messed it up!

So now I give up :P

I've done the run so many times I get sloppy sometimes

Thank god the loading times are so fast in this Remaster

This is what I meant to do last time!

I continue blocking because he can stab you as you run away

I know when it's safe to drop the shield and run

The knights can chase you all the way to the hall

If you get really unlucky, one can fall on you from the upper level!

If you get unlucky here, the big knight goes left instead

Then you have to roll or jump and pray!

If the archer hits you, it's game over

Here we go again...

I found it's safest to lure Smough here first

I run in now because the pillar may block Ornstein's attacks

See how his line of sight was blocked by the pillar?

That's the safest time to attack Smough

That was a very lucky dodge!

I'm always trying to use pillars as cover from Ornstein

The gravelord sword is slow, which makes it harder

Here Ornstein has hit me through the pillar

If you are too close to the pillar his spear passes through it

Note how I keep the target on Ornstein

This is so I can track him even when Smough is in the way

It's safe to drink Estus when both bosses are behind a pillar

I know Ornstein's behind me, but I try to get some hits in

If you keep moving laterally compared to Ornstein

whilst he is offscreen, he's more likely to miss his charges

I use sprint to get close to Smough when there is an opening

But here I backed off because I knew Ornstein would come in

I'm trying to get close to Smough, but he charges

I move back to put the pillar between me and Smough

One on one with Ornstein is easy, you just block

usually when you are that close, you don't take damage

I always try to keep the target on Ornstein so I can block him

Unless I want to attack Smough

Note how I have to quickly switch target to block

Here I'm using the pillar again to split them up

The idea is to get the pillar between me and Ornstein

But here, Ornstein still got me through the pillar

I took a chance to get a hit on Smough and it didn't pay off

If I'd rolled forwards after my attack, maybe I would have survived

This is the victorious run!

I could tank more damage from Ornstein

But I'm trying to save Estus for the final phase

Having to block the sword 3 times left my stamina too low

So the spear went through my block

I don't mind taking a bit of damage though beforehand

My estus revives most of my health bar

And I usually use Estus at around half HP to avoid getting one-shot

Here we go!

Ornstein's annoying start lets Smough get around the pillar

When they are both stuck together like this, it's dangerous to attack

Instead I lure them back

I just saw Ornstein dash attack so I know I have a second of safety to attack Smough

I wanted to keep the pillar between me and Ornstein, but that leaves me open to the bumslam!

Now my health is low I run back to heal

Always targetting Ornstein in case he dash attacks

It's death to be caught in a pincer like this

But I know I can survive a few hits from these normal Ornstein attacks

So I got a few hits in on Smough

Backing off to a safer position now

I know due to Ornstein's position its safe to run in now

Well, if he didn't lightning bolt, of course!

I blocked Ornstein and got a hit in on Smough

Caught in the open it's time to resposition

If all is well, the pillar is blocking Ornstein on my left

But Smough jumps out of the way

Now I'm exposed again so back to safety

Ornstein has other plans!

I know Smough is behind me so I'm trying to get away fast

I was lucky Smough didn't charge whilst my back was turned!

Ideal, Ornstein's charged off leaving the pillar between him and Smough

I take the damage because I want to get hits on Smough

Because he was almost dead!

Now the really hard bit!

It's very important to find cover at first in case he lightning bolts you

Also, don't drink Estus just after killing Smough

When you come out of the cutscene, you'll be stuck in the drinking animation and open to attack

This is a safe spot, for now. Super Ornstein will often do lightning bolts until you get closer.

I'm getting ready to charge in, timing it right

The lightning bolt one-shot kills me, so I'm nervous!

Aiiiiiiiii!!!!!

Phew. Now I'm using the pillar as cover.

I'm waiting for an opening to charge in

The right flank seems the safest option, in my experience

I manage to block the final attack, it would have killed me.

But I didn't realise it was a 4 hit combo! I was lucky to survive!

Any further back from the pillar and I would be dead right now!

I'm trying to stay as close to him as possible to avoid the spear

I try to block some of the attacks whilst getting in hits

But I take too much damage and have to back out, keeping the pillar between us

This positioning is when you are at most risk

Thankfully he doesn't do the flying attack, that goes over the pillars

I keep strafing to dodge the lightning bolt

The lightning lunge has a big hitbox

I have to be on his extreme right, or roll, to avoid it

For his bum slam, I immediately back off whilst blocking

This lets you mitigate most of the damage if you get far enough away

I charge back in so I'm not at the deadliest spear range

I need to heal, and pray the pillar protects me

I moved just in time!

Caught right in the bum slam! Thank god I just healed!

That roll just saved my life

I'm using sprint to close the distance as fast as possible

The jump didn't work that time!

We're both almost dead, I have to finish him now!

I did it!

I'm spinning around in joy!

If he hadn't been so low, I would have had to back off and heal my last Estus

Maybe then I would have died

My heart was pumping for the whole final phase!

So many of his attacks can one-shot you

and when you stop to heal, you are very vulnerable

Many times when I've reached Super Ornstein, healing has got me killed

I'm still celebrating, I'm on a high!

At home I was shouting out loud :)

Here's my stats. I have no idea what level people usually do this boss at.

I put most of my points into STR, END and VIT

I have Havel's armour but I'm not strong enough to use it yet.

Though I could use the equipment load lowering ring I found, I suppose

I will have to try the same challenge with a light build, I bet it's a lot easier!

I used to use the strong attack only in this fight

But then I found it was better to get quick hits in as Smough often jumped away too fast

None of the armour is upgraded yet. I need twinkling titanite.

I just kept the wolf ring on because it's what I had on when I started the challenge.

I have no idea if the extra poise makes any difference in that boss fight. Maybe for blocking Smoughs hammer?

I still don't know if the witches ring does anything, but I keep it on just in case.

Its another self imposed handicap but maybe I'll get a story reward somewhere for it.

Well, after hundreds of deaths I finally did it

Thanks for watching and for your own sanity, don't try it :)

If you do, let me know!

See ya, and of course, Praise the Sun!

Into the Depths | Amnesia: The Dark Descent - Episode 8 [CC] - Duration: 21:59.

[Steeliest] - Hello everyone, welcome to Amnesia: the Dark Descent

We're still in the sewer

Whatever this area is called, I've forgotten. Hope everyone is doing okay

I'm having a day off. I'm not really doing anything no plans

Which is most days at this point because of

(monster growling)

same, erm because I don't have uni work to do

(dramatic music)

The drama music is unnecessary, honestly

gimme that

I mean today I've got this to record

and edit and then upload

so essentially get it ready

to be published

and

Then maybe play some games of some kind

It's Father's Day - is it tomorrow pretty sure it's tomorrow?

The thing is I never know with these things I have to be reminded

I have to be reminded about people's birthdays as well. I'm amazing

Like every year Moon Pig is like oh it's someone's birthday

Like in a few days get the a card! All right Thank You Moon Pig because I had genuinely forgotten

apart from like a handful of birthdays. I forget most of them. 'Cos I'm just an awful human being

Let's see if I can do this in one go

(loud screeching dramatic music) (monster roaring)

I always forget how loud that roaring is (loud screeching dramatic music)

(loud screeching dramatic music)

Screw you (loud screeching dramatic music)

(loud screeching dramatic music)

Screw you evil death monster

huh

no?

no?

alright then?

Oh, there you are (loud screeching dramatic music)

(loud screeching dramatic music) (monster roaring) (banging as door is broken down)

hi there (loud screeching dramatic music) (monster roaring)

(loud screeching dramatic music)

say, sometimes you can get them to (roaring) sometimes you can get them to charge in through the second door as well

I like messing with the monsters occasionally makes the game more fun

That and after a certain amount of time the monsters stop really scaring you so...and now we're here

oh yeah there's another one (1), I forgot

just light that so I know I've been this way

yeah the machinery's broken

Not surprising

[Daniel] - 9th of August 1839. I can't stop sweating and shaking

The warding ritual was not something of a sane mind. I did not even realize the dungeon was still in use

Alexander had his servants bring one of the prisoners a murderer he told me

Alexander made all the arrangements, but he said I had to perform the ritual in order to have the right effect

The shadow could be led astray by the blood of another

Killing the man would provide us precious time

What else could I do?

Alexander said it had to be done. He is saving my life. I don't have the luxury of argument. I

[Steeliest] - I mean you kinda do

you technically could have argued

Because he could have been lying

I mean I don't know if he was or not but wouldn't surprise me if he was

what else can I talk about?

oh! I don't really care about it, but the World Cup's on

And by, I don't care about it. I mean it annoys me that

Everything has become football orientated or soccer as Americans call it but it's everywhere and it annoys me

I just..I want it to go away

but

like fair enough if you enjoy it, I'm not saying you can't enjoy it if you do, or anything..like

You know each to their own

But it's just one of those things that irritates me

[Alexander] - Agrippa? I need you to stay awake. Can you feel the syringe?

[Agrippa] - no, I can't feel anything.

[Agrippa] - Alexander?

[Alexander] - yes?

[Agrippa] - soon I won't even be able to move, will I?

[Alexander] - your life is safe

[Agrippa] - I don't doubt that - but will it be worth living?

(bottles clinking) (liquid pouring) (stirring sounds)

[Steeliest] - Hello

(Daniel gasps) (sighing)

[Agrippa] - help me

[Agrippa] - pull the switch

(rush of air)

[Agrippa] - Thank you, you have my gratitude, my name is Agrippa who might you be?

[Agrippa] - Daniel? Like the prophet thrown into the lion's den. (Agrippa laughs)

[Agrippa] - tell me - are you among the lions, Daniel?

[Agrippa] - you want to stop Alexander?

[Agrippa] - oh, my...so Babylon shall fall, you say.

(Agrippa laughs)

[Agrippa] - you worry too much. Alexander is toothless without an orb.

[Agrippa] - he has one?

that's not very promising at all. The Sanctum is basically impenetrable while guested by an orb.

it could be breached by another, but...Alexander broke his, I mean my orb, a long time ago.

[Agrippa] - really? well, if you tell the truth by all means. Seek out the pieces of the broken orb and mend away.

[Agrippa] - I believe he uses them for torture now. They practically leak madness, which is quite useful I understand.

[Agrippa] - there should be six of them, look around the Choir and the Transept, you should be able to find them there.

[Agrippa] - Daniel - I hate to bother you further, but...

[Agrippa] - if you are really going after Alexander. Would you consider...taking me with you?

[Agrippa] - I know it sounds ridiculous. I mean look at me. But if you find anything concerning a man named Johann Weyer, would you please bring it to me?

[Agrippa] - I believe he was working on a way to help me. A recipe for some sort of potion - a tonic to free me from this husk of mine.

[Steeliest] - anyway we've met Agrippa now we can choose whether or not to bring him with us

I hate these stairs, just run up them!

it's not that difficult, come on!

erm the thing I was doing with the box and the cogs was to fix

Was to fix

These so they should work now

And they open some doors downstairs

[Alexander] - Daniel you have gone too far. I have to stop you. I can't let you proceed any further

I'm sorry, my friend

[Agrippa] - was there something else?

[Agrippa] - you got the doors open? Good going I knew-

(screaming and banging)

[Steeliest] - Just screaming for no reason. Thank you

I mean technically they are screaming for a reason they were kind of slightly

tortured

But still- (sighing) (Daniel gasps) it's just a gust of wind

[Person] - I know this. I've been here already. I know this taste - the taste of Damascus Rose obfuscating the truth in a dim haze.

[Person] - they may sweep the traces from my memory, but my body remembers. These cuts speak volumes, even though my mind remains silent. They will be back.

[Person] - oh, they will be back.

[Steeliest] - Wrong way, I always do that

(monster growling)

oh, hi there monster

(dramatic music)

[Alexander] - just a little further.

[Daniel] - it's like Orpheus descending into the underworld.

[Alexander] - are you hiding something?

[Daniel] - what do you mean?

[Alexander] - never mind. Your intuition is remarkable.

[Daniel] - I'm not sure I'm following

[Alexander] - it doesn't matter. It's just a myth after all.

[Steeliest] - Yeah, fun fact if you leave after that monster

so you just, like I did, just leave and come back, the monster's no longer here

"The Shattered Orb: all is lost.

I must once again start over. Ever since I recovered The Orb first found by

Agrippa I have depended on it for my research the incident with Wilhelm made me most impetuous

fearing a paucity of prisoners

I proceeded with the final ritual without proper foresight the Orb cracked and fell into six parts

I have tried everything but have yet to mend the thing

Unless I can think of a way to piece it together. I will have to find another

There was still life in the pieces and even if they are isn't restored

I might still be able to salvage some of its power for some other purpose

Centuries has passed in vain and I begin to wonder if I will ever be able to see my love again

How much longer can I sustain my life?"

eh

yeah, if you leave and come back that monsters no longer here due to some sort of reasoning I guess

But currently we just have to collect Orb

pieces and some other pieces to make a potion for Agrippa if we choose to take him with us, but

I always collect them just out of habit, even if I don't take him with me

(gears turning)

[Daniel] - 12th of August

1839

Banishment ritual is taking longer than expected and we have to do what is needed

I spend my time helping out with the prisoners

Being around these degenerates makes me ill

None of them even tries to face their punishment with any kind of dignity

They taunt me with their lies of innocence and their cowardly pleas of mercy

What can make a man fall so far from the grace of a civilized existence?

They are all wicked men and I remind myself of it constantly

Still I am thankful for God sending these monsters our way as they will serve as the instruments of my salvation.

I try to study the different tools in the torture chamber and learn how to use them effectively

Last time was messy and the effect suffered from my inexperience

When the next warding is to be performed I shall be ready

[Steeliest] - That's a bit

foreboding

[Daniel] - whatever it takes!

[Steeliest] - yeah we need to collect the Orb pieces and put them on there so we can get rid of that but that takes

well

We won't finish that part in this episode, probably be the next episode and maybe another one after that depending

But yeah, we have to collect all pieces. that's the main goal

[Alexander] - is this guilt I'm witnessing, Daniel? If so, blame yourself. You started this.

[Alexander] - you sent me that letter asking for help, and this is how you repay me? How dare you?

[Steeliest] - I'm gonna fight you Alexander I swear. It's my fault for asking for help?

This is my fault because of asking for help?

[Alexander] - these cells are meant to hold prisoners who are under treatment. The people you send for will end up here.

[Alexander] - remember that the confinement itself works as a preamble to the torture and you should pace yourself

[Alexander] - don't take anyone before they already

[Daniel] - understood [Alexander] - sounds from the torture chambers are shuttled in through those pipes in the ceiling

[Alexander] - manage your victims well and let one prisoners pain instill terror in his cellmate

[Agrippa] - Daniel, good to see you.

[Steeliest] - hello

I don't care I mean I do but I've heard it so many times so I kinda don't care at this point

just feed the fish

(splashing and growling)

[Person] - how much more, Baron? How much more am I supposed to withstand? Kill me already - kill me!

[Alexander] - this one, prepare him.

[Steeliest] - I can never remember which one is which when I go into these rooms, but anyway, it's the end of the episode now

Hope everyone's enjoyed it, we'll

Resume next time finding bits and pieces of the Orb and other things that we need

See you next time and, bye!

Writing into the Dark: Write a book without an outline! - Duration: 9:48.

What if I told you that it is possible to write a book without an outline?

What if I told you that many authors are doing this with great success?

And what if I told you that there was a roadmap, a guide, an exact playbook to writing your

next book without an outline?

In this video I'll be digging into Writing into the Dark by Dean Wesley Smith, which

teaches writers how to write without outlines.

***

What's up, guys?

This is Michael La Ronn with Author Level Up, giving you the best tools and strategies

for writing faster and reaching readers with your stories.

This is the kickoff to a new video series where I'll be covering the best books on

writing craft and talking about the ideas behind them to help you write better and faster.

For me personally, the foundational book that changed everything for me was Writing into

the Dark by Dean Wesley Smith.

I credit much of my prolific output to this little powerful but often misunderstood book.

Dean is a USA Today bestselling author and he wrote many of the Star Trek novels that

I read as a kid.

He's written over 100 novels and hundreds and hundreds of short stories in many genres.

Together with his wife, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, he runs WMG Publishing, which publishes all

of Dean and Kris's books.

They also facilitate online and in-person workshops for writers with great writing advice

that you can't find anywhere else.

His writing courses are game-changers, guys—see my WMG Workshop Review video for more info.

So let's talk about the big idea in Writing into the Dark, which is this: writing without

an outline is a scary proposition for most writers, but it can be done.

But outlining is such a deep-seated habit because it's taught so widely in schools.

It's what teachers and college professors are recommending to their students, and people

are often reluctant to do the opposite of what they learn in school, even many years

later as an adult.

Most writers are trained to think they need an outline when in fact, some of the best

creativity comes from spontaneity.

There's no one way to do anything, and I'm not telling you that you need to stop outlining,

but many long time professional writers like Dean have learned to ditch outlines with great

success.

I found Writing in the Dark in late 2015, which was the perfect time in my life.

At the time I was frustrated with how much time I was spending on outlining.

For my Android X trilogy, I had actually tracked how much time I spent in every phase of the

book, down to the very minute.

It looked like this: 20% outlining

60% writing the first draft 20% revising the first draft

60% of my time for this entire series was actually spent writing.

If you look at that on a grade scale, that's a failing grade.

The other 40% was not spent writing at all.

And most of my emotional struggles were during the 40%.

And you know the worst part?

I didn't even follow my outlines most of the time.

The characters led me down different paths.

So if I was spending all this time writing outlines that I didn't follow...why was

I outlining again?

So I wanted to find a way to eliminate the "emotional rollercoaster" of writing a

novel.

You know, the ups and downs, both emotional and production-wise.

Your novel is awesome one day, horrible the next, you're writing one day, not writing

the next.

I prefer consistency, and I told myself that I'd rather reduce my time spend on outlining

and revising even if it meant spending a little more time writing the book.

Right around this time is when I found Writing into the Dark.

It was the answer I needed.

Now, this is a small book, but Dean covers a lot of concepts in it, like the fact that

writing without an outline is really scary if you haven't written without an outline

before.

He also covers how to manage uncertainty since you don't know what's going to happen

in your novel, and helpful hints such as simply writing the next sentence, cycling back through

your work so that you can write a clean first draft, and what to do when you're stuck.

A big concept that he explains is that creativity comes from the back of your brain—he calls

it the creative voice.

Others might call it a muse or your subconscious.

Similar idea.

But when we outline, we do it from the front of our brain, which is more logical and critical.

Dean calls it the critical voice.

This part of the brain's job is to keep you safe, so any time you have fear, the critical

voice jumps in to protect you.

It will tell you that your work sucks, or you should quit, or any other kind of silliness—anything

to make the fear go away.

And in this case, that's the fear that you can't write without an outline.

The critical voice is not your friend.

It's logical and not creative.

It wants to stop you from finishing your book, and it kills many writing careers every single

day.

Dean refers to it like a parent who's looking out for a child.

The creative voice is your friend.

It's insanely creative if you let it be, but it's a sensitive thing.

It's easily suppressed and stops cold the moment the critical voice starts speaking.

In order to thrive, it needs ample room to play.

If the critical voice is a parent, then the creative voice is the innocent, optimistic,

playful child.

You've got to let that child out to play, and play as much as possible.

Dean's point is that writing in its most pure and engaging form can only happen when

you learn to suppress the critical voice and let the creative voice do its job.

Easier said than done.

I consider the book to be not only a helpful book, but also a manifesto on how to be endlessly

creative.

Here's the #1 Idea from this book that changed my perspective on everything.

It's not even a popular section or a common highlight.

Most people will probably miss it.

That idea is this: "…Writing into the Dark takes a belief

system in story.

It takes a trust that your creative voice knows what it is doing.

And it takes a vast amount of mental fight [...to] let the fine work your creative voice

has done alone and not ruin it with your critical voice."

Writing as a belief system.

That got me thinking about my relationship with religion.

I believe in a higher power.

I can't prove it, though.

For example, I could tell you about an emotional experience I had that gave me faith, but you

can't see it.

I can't really convince you that a God exists.

Yet I still choose to have my own belief system because of faith.

Faith is believing in something even if you can't see it, even if you can't prove

it.

Without faith, you don't have a belief system./ It's the cornerstone on which any belief

in ANYTHING intangible rests.

I'm going to get philosophical for a minute, but writing for me is a sacred act.

It's as sacred as prayer.

When I sit down and write and simply trust my creative voice and have full faith in it,

I'm connecting with something higher than myself, for reasons beyond myself.

Because I don't outline, I never know where my story is going to go, but I trust my creative

voice.

And it always, always, always comes through for me.

It has never failed me.

Not once.

But that, like belief in any major religion, takes an incredible amount of faith.

And guys, I'm not an overly religious person.

Let me tell you another story.

When I decided to put Writing into the Dark into action, I tried it with Old Dark, Book

1 in my Last Dragon Lord dark fantasy series.

(Side note: I wrote my book Old Dark in the dark.

Get it?

Haha) I wrote this book with no outline, no idea

of what was going to happen except an image of the first scene in my head.

The story is one of the most interesting, twisting narratives I've ever written.

It's the story of Old Dark, a supreme Dragon Lord who has ruled the world for hundreds

of years with brutality.

He's a supervillain.

When an assassination attempt on his life goes wrong, he falls asleep and wakes up 1,000

years in the future, in a society ruled by his enemies.

The story starts off in a Game of Thrones-like, high fantasy world, but as I explored it,

it morphed into a futuristic urban fantasy as you follow Dark on his quest to seek revenge

and reclaim power.

It has a lot of plot twists, a lot of players, politics, and is quite Shakespearean in tone.

In other words, it's the kind of book most writers would try to outline first because

it's pretty complex.

Anyway, when I published the book, readers said some interesting things in their reviews:

They were posting things like the story was deliciously good, it kept them wanting more,

and all kinds of other things that I had never seen them write before.

That's when I knew that I was on to something.

So let me bring this full circle for you: I was frustrated with outlining, committed

to stop doing it.

I followed Dean's Writing into the Dark method, wrote an entire series without an

outline, and readers praised me for it and didn't even know the difference.

And ultimately, my story and characters were better for it.

All of that because I trusted my creative voice to do its job.

If that's not a success story, I don't know what is.

If you've never done this before, trust me: I know it's hard to give up the safety

of outlining and venturing into the dark instead.

To use Dean's analogy from the book, It's like journeying into a dark cave without knowing

where the exit is.

It's dark, pitch dark, and you can't see anything, not even your hand in front of your

face.

And it's scary too.

You fear what you can't see, and everything is new and frightening.

There are creepy stalagmites and stalactites, hidden bodies of water, and at every turn

it seems like you run into a dead end.

A few times you want to quit and run out of the cave, back into safety.

But if you remain patient and push through the discomfort, you'll eventually find the

exit.

You'll emerge on the other side.

And when you come out on the other side, it'll be one of the most amazing things you've

ever seen.

Fearlessness, self-confidence in your writing, satisfied readers and a better story all converge

into an incredible euphoria of a finished novel.

Anything feels possible.

You'll have so much more confidence and feel so much better about yourself and your

writing that it won't even be funny.

But in order to get there, you've got to get through the cave.

And the first time around, I'm not gonna lie—it's a bitch.

But it gets easier every time you do it as long as you have faith and trust your creative

voice.
