HI. my name's Sophia, here i will share some of my exchange experience by living

with my host family in California. So I went to America last summer from July 30st till

august 30th, about one month and I stayed in California for two weeks.

My stay in California was so short but I still have lots of great memories here.

It was my first time living with a host family I got kind of nervous at first

but when I arrived in California everything just seems fine.

I remember the weather on that day was so hot and I was waiting in the classroom

with another exchanges students and when I saw my host family

Gaby, Trace and Tyler I feel a relief because they looked so nice,

and when we got home Trace and Gaby showed us around the house, how to use appliances in kitchen and

bathroom and where we can get towels in the closet and blah blah blah.

And everything just seems like home, oh yeah! The house have rules my

roommates Helen and Emilie and I will to take turns to clean the bathroom during

the week and I think that's an interesting part because I got lots of fun and it's

totally different from what I have done in my home and also helped to do a

chores like do the dishes something like that and i think

that's the interesting part, and that's a good part because it helps

us learn a lot from it. And the most unforgettable thing is that it was my

last day in California, my roommate Helen and I asked if we can make dumplings for

them as a sacred gift, they say yes and that day we got home

it was quite late it was almost half past seven,

because we got traffic jam, but everybody was waiting for us and we

were so moved at that time. I know everybody was starving but they were

just so patient, and Emilie helped us a lot and when we finally finish all of

the things there was almost 9 o'clock. I feel very, very sorry.

Lastly I'm gonna talk about what I learned from living with my host family my host family.

So, the first thing is that it happened they're different culture and teach me

how to get along with people from different cultures, it also a improve how I am ......

speaking, you know before that I didn't dare to speak out I just and I was not

very confident about my spoken English so I just I just I don't know how to

speak out, but while i was living with my host family I wanted to speak

I want to talk with them, communicate with them to share what I experienced in one day

and about the funny things and what made me sad, and the second

thing is that living with the host family will let you taste a lot of

the traditional delicious food. Here, not to mention that Gaby and Trace have the

best cooking that I ever tasted before, better than my mom.

I still remember the taquito and the pasta, yeah - very, very delicious.

I need to say thank you to Gaby, Trace and Tyler for hosting me for two weeks.

Thank you so much, and yeah I know the time is so short but I still got lots of

good memories in there. And I put the time to be exchange students to living with a

host family it helps me a lot teach me a lot and I learned a lot from

me. Thank you so much and Gaby, Trace Tyler if you get a chance please come to

China to visit me. I hope to see you in the future.

I will miss you forever. so that's it. See you!

California officials move to reject court ruling on coffee and cancer risk - Duration: 4:34.

LOS ANGELES -- California officials bucked a recent court ruling Friday and offered reassurance to concerned coffee drinkers that their fix won't give them cancer

The unprecedented action by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment to propose a regulation to essentially clear coffee of the stigma that it could pose a toxic risk followed a review of more than 1,000 studies published this week by the World Health Organization that found inadequate evidence that coffee causes cancer

The state agency implements a law passed by voters in 1986 that requires warnings of chemicals known to cause cancer and birth defects

One of those chemicals is acrylamide, which is found in many things and is a byproduct of coffee roasting and brewing present in every cup of joe

Coffee cancer warning: What science says about the actual risk If the regulation is adopted, it would be a huge win for the coffee industry which faces potentially massive civil penalties after recently losing an 8-year-old lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court that could require scary warnings on all coffee packaging sold in California

Judge Elihu Berle found that Starbucks and other coffee roasters and retailers had failed to show that benefits from drinking coffee outweighed any cancer risks

He had previously ruled the companies hadn't shown the threat from the chemical was insignificant

The state's action rejects that ruling. "The proposed regulation would state that drinking coffee does not pose a significant cancer risk, despite the presence of chemicals created during the roasting and brewing process that are listed under Proposition 65 as known carcinogens," the agency said in a statement

"The proposed regulation is based on extensive scientific evidence that drinking coffee has not been shown to increase the risk of cancer and may reduce the risk of some types of cancer

" Attorney Raphael Metzger, who won the court case on behalf of The Council for Education and Research on Toxics, said he was shocked the agency would move to nullify the court decision and undermine its own report more than a decade ago that drinking even small amounts of coffee resulted in a significant cancer risk

"The takeaway is that the state is proposing a rule contrary to its own scientific conclusion

That's unprecedented and bad," Metzger said. "The whole thing stinks to high hell

" The National Coffee Association had no comment on the proposed change

In the past, the organization has said coffee has health benefits and that the lawsuit made a mockery of the state law intended to protect people from toxics

Scientific evidence on coffee has gone back and forth many years, but concerns have eased recently about possible dangers, with some studies finding health benefits

Big Coffee didn't deny that acrylamide was found in the coffee, but they argued it was only found at low levels and was outweighed by other benefits such as antioxidants that reduce cancer risk

The state agency's action comes about a week after bipartisan bills were introduced in both houses of Congress to require science-based criteria for labels on food and other products

One of the sponsors, Rep. Kurt Schrader, D-Oregon, alluded to the California coffee lawsuit as an example of misleading warnings

"When we have mandatory cancer warnings on a cup of coffee, something has gone seriously wrong with the process," Schrader said in a news release

"We now have so many warnings unrelated to the actual health risk posed to consumers, that most people just ignore them

" The lawsuit against Starbucks and 90 companies was brought by the tiny nonprofit under a law that allows private citizens, advocacy groups and attorneys to sue on behalf of the state and collect a portion of civil penalties for failure to provide warnings

The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, better known as Proposition 65, requires warning labels for about 900 chemicals known to cause cancer or birth defects

The law has been credited with reducing cancer-causing chemicals, but it has been criticized for leading to quick settlement shakedowns and vague warnings that are often ignored

Court reinstates California law allowing terminally ill people to end their lives - Duration: 3:43.

LOS ANGELES -- A state appeals court has reinstated -- at least for now -- California's law allowing terminally ill people to end their lives

The Fourth District Court of Appeals in Riverside issued an immediate stay Friday putting the End of Life Option back into effect

The court also gave opponents of its decision until July 2 to file objections

The law allows adults to obtain a prescription for life-ending drugs if a doctor has determined that they have six months or less to live

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Daniel Ottolia declared the law unconstitutional last month, stating that it had been adopted illegally because lawmakers passed it during a special Legislative session called to address other matters

Ottolia didn't address the issue of whether it's proper for people to end their lives

Right-to-die advocates hailed Friday's action. "This stay is a huge win for many terminally ill Californians with six months or less to live because it could take years for the courts to resolve this case," Kevin Díaz, national director of legal advocacy for Compassion & Choices, said in a statement

"Thankfully, this ruling settles the issue for the time being, but we know we have a long fight ahead before we prevail

" California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who had asked the appeals court to stay Ottolia's ruling, also praised the decision

"This ruling provides some relief to California patients, their families, and doctors who have been living in uncertainty while facing difficult health decisions," Becerra said

"Today's court ruling is an important step to protect and defend the End of Life Option Act for our families across the state

" Patients Rights Action Fund, which opposes laws allowing people to take their lives, did not respond to a message placed after business hours Friday

In previously discussing the law, the group's executive director, Matt Valliere, said, "The people of California, especially the vulnerable, deserve protection and support, not assisted suicide

" The Life Legal Defense Foundation, American Academy of Medical Ethics and several physicians were among those who sued to have the law overturned

Their lawsuit, Ahn vs. Hestrin, claims the law violates the due process and equal protection guarantees of the U

S. and California constitutions because it fails "to make rational distinctions" between terminally ill adults "and the vast majority of Californians not covered by the act

" The suit also claims the Legislature did not have authority to pass the law during a special session limited to other issues

Becerra argued that the law, which took effect in 2016, was legitimately passed during a special legislative session dedicated to health issues

California health officials reported that 111 terminally ill people took drugs to end their lives in the first six months after the law went into effect June 9, 2016, and made the option legal in the nation's most populous state

Oregon was the first to provide the option in 1997. It also is allowed in Washington, Vermont, Colorado, Hawaii and Washington D

C.

Student wears KKK hood to school for history project in California - 247 news - Duration: 3:10.

A student wore a Ku Klux Klan uniform to his school in California as part of a history project for which he received a teacher's permission

Photos posted on social media showed the freshman student dressed head to toe in KKK regalia walking around Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy in Los Angeles on Friday

He was dressed as Hiram Wesley Evans, a dentist who became the Imperial Wizard of the national organization from 1922 to 1939, and who once oversaw a mob who branded 'KKK' onto a black man's forehead with acid

Although other students dressed as historical figures, many felt the decision to appear as a violent white supremacist was out of line

Share this article Share 'He wore it like throughout the school, like in nutrition, lunch, things like that

I don't think that's appropriate,' Lance Dantignac, a rising senior, told ABC 7. Another rising senior, Trinity Young, said she confronted the teacher who gave the student permission to come to school in the hood

'It kind of rattled me,' she said. 'It was hard to believe that she would allow a klansman to walk around from her approval

'So, we asked her, and she said that, she compared the Klan to the Black Panther Party, which in my opinion are two different things

So yeah, it was troubling.'The Los Angeles Unified School District said it was investigating the incident

It added: 'L.A. Unified and Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy understand the extreme sensitivity around this issue and do not condone or support this type of re-enactment

'Who was KKK Imperial Wizard Hiram Wesley Evans? Hiram Wesley Evans was born in Alabama on September 26, 1881, and moved to Texas to study dentistry at Vanderbilt University

He set up a dental practice in 1910 and joined the clan ten years later. In 1921, while leader of the Dallas Klan, he led a mob who kidnapped a black bellhop called Alex Johnson, and burnt 'KKK' on his forehead with acid

A year later he rose to the position of Imperial Wizard - leader of the national Klan - and oversaw a massive increase in membership to four million in 1925

He began to oppose vigilante actions in favor of trying to gain political influence and elect local and national officials

By the 1930s, the Klan was in crisis due to a rapidly declining membership and the Great Depression, which squeezed its finances

He resigned as Imperial Wizard on June 10, 1939. He continued commenting on Klan activities until his death in Atlanta on September 14, 1966
