what is the dunning-kruger effect well the Internet is awash with rubbish

information delivered by people who are absolutely sure of what they're talking

about what's wrong though in believing something you read or following advice

that is delivered confidently and with certainty in an online pet forum or

anywhere on the Internet in this video I discuss why not knowing what you don't

know can result in ridiculous confidence and just how you can protect yourself

from following terrible advice online Hi I'm Dr. alex avery from ourpetshealth.com

helping you and your pet to live a healthier happier life and welcome to

this third video in my evidence matters series now today I want to talk to you

about the dunning-kruger effect and don't worry it's pretty simple it is

named after two psychologists and the dunning-kruger effect goes something

like this if someone knows nothing about the topic

they are generally aware they know nothing they won't try and pretend

otherwise and they certainly won't have strong

opinions or views on the subject things very quickly get pretty interesting

though as some learning takes place now you've probably heard the phrase that a

little knowledge can be a dangerous thing well as someone starts to learn

about your topic the amount they think they know about it climbs at an

exponential rate in fact after gaining only a really small amount of

information relative to the total amount there is to know about a subject many

people will actually start to consider themselves as pretty much experts now

we've probably all been there to a certain degree as well we learn a couple

of basic principles and all of a sudden think that we've got the topic cracked

alternatively we start to learn a new skill and after a short time of

practicing we start to feel pretty confident in our ability now how certain

you are of your knowledge or ability it probably depends a lot on your

personality as well but it is this group though that are often post and comment

prolifically in facebook groups and other online forums not only do they

post a lot which in itself is fine but they're also brimming with

confidence no quick to argue or even ridicule anyone who dares contradict or

question their particular viewpoint they will also take pride in the fact that

they are completely self-taught and will compare their knowledge to people who

are recognized expert in the field you'll have come across

these people many times I'm sure their favorite phrases that you might read or

they might say might be do your own research don't be brainwashed and I've

even been told to get my head out to the sand when I dared questions someone's a

cetacean that chocolate is not in fact poisonous to dogs it never occurs to

these people that doing your own research by reading the first page that

agrees with your point of view in a Google search is simply no substitute

for actually studying the topic at length over many years these people

simply do not know what they don't know and this is the dunning-kruger effect

now of course people can and do become experts in a field through self-study

and personal development but I would suggest that the way these people

communicate is actually very different from our ignorant experts now the graph

continues and if they actually continue to learn about the subject properly they

will come to realize how much more there is to know they realize that there is

more to the topic from their first thought and as a result their perception

of their own expert status actually plummets and in fact their former expert

opinion of their own knowledge levels almost drops back down to zero previous

confidence is replaced by a feeling that they are never going to get to grips

with the subject at all it is then a slow and steady climb back up to the

giddy heights of expert status and things start to make sense again slowly

but surely experts start to appreciate that they do know a lot yet at the same

time they will acknowledge that things are complicated and even then though a

truth a true expert may actually end up selling themselves short they still feel

that they know less than the self-appointed experts with very little

knowledge in a lot of cases this may be due to something like impostor syndrome

which is something I've talked about in a guest video on the rewired soul that

I'll link up here so this is what the dunning-kruger effect is how though can

you protect yourself from advice given by ignorant experts on internet forums

with facebook groups in blog post and instead recognize true expert advice now

to answer this I'd encourage you to take a look at the website trust or trash

Borg and I'll put a link down below which guides you through a number of

questions and three main groups to help you decide if you should trust what you

are reading in a pet forum or anywhere else online in print or even in the

flesh and first up is the question who said it

you should think about trusting the source of the author's name their

background and experience levels are easy to find also if they appear to be

well respected in their community than that is an encouraging sign as well on

the other hand if you can't find who wrote something or if you know their

name but little else about them disregarding the information may

actually be safer and tie to all this it's the question of where the

information came from are the sources listed or hidden do the sources have

experience in the area being discussed and do they have a commercial element to

them there's something to consider now the second question to consider is when

the information was given with pet health care some areas of our knowledge

and understanding and best practices are changing really quickly information

delivered ten years ago may not be as up-to-date as that given in the last six

months now this is not true in all cases by any means but information seems out

of date compared to other things you've read and it probably is now the final

question to think about when it comes to separating the good from the bad is how

do they know is it based on multiple sources of peer reviewed papers or is it

instead based on information based solely on personal opinion or personal

experience of a single person or a minority within that field and lastly

does the information seem reasonable does it make sense based on everything

you've read and understand does it actually seem too good to be true or too

simplified if the answer to that is yes then that probably is too good to be

true so these are all questions you can ask yourself to stop you getting taken

for a ride by someone suffering from dunning-kruger effect they're most

likely only trying to help but remember they simply don't know what they don't

know now if one answer suggests you should not trust the information it

doesn't necessarily mean you should completely disregard it instantly it

just means you should keep it in your mind that there might be an issue and

take it as a single piece of the puzzle to find the answer or advice you're

looking for now I've said it before you should always double or triple check

anything you read online about any topic and while I'd love to say that my

articles are the only thing you need to read about any of the topics that I've

written about that would just be ridiculous you should definitely go to

other sites to corroborate what I say make sure you come back again

and you should definitely rate the advice of your pets personal debt above

all other sources they are the only ones who have had a proper consultation with

you who have examined your pet ants that ask questions I'm an ordered and

interpreted any test results in relation to your pet specifically you know we

don't know each other personally and I've never examined your pet something

you may read may give you a talking point to explore with your vet the best

way to go about managing the health or the illness of your dog or cat it should

definitely not result though in your rejecting everything your vet has told

you if what is written is the complete opposite of what they have said bodies

and organs are incredibly complex and what is right for one pet may be

completely wrong for another having a personal that you can trust is one of

the most important relationships you will have in respect to optimizing and

maintaining your pets health so take care out there and remember anyone can

write anything online make sure you join me next time I release videos every

Tuesday and Thursday if you've got any questions please leave me a comment down

below and until next time i'm dr. alex from our pets health because they're

Who Was The Zodiac Killer? - Duration: 5:42.

A possible 37 people dead…5 bodies, 4 cryptograms, numerous headlines, countless police scratching

their heads, but no prosecutions.

Will the mystery of the zodiac killer ever be solved?

Hello and welcome back to Life's Biggest Questions, the channel that sometimes tries

its hand at solving the odd mystery…

I am your host Rebecca Felgate and today I am asking Who Was The Zodiac Killer?

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of this video, I would like to ask you guys to hit

that thumbs up button and leave me a comment in the comments section down below.

Okay, so it has been 50 years since the Zodiac Killer began their murdering spree, and half

a century later, police have not been able to figure out who was behind grisly deaths.

I don't presume that in 5 minutes I am going to be able to do what detectives have failed

to do for 5 decades, but let's give it a good ponder, shall we.

The Zodiac killer terrorized Northern California and claimed to have killed 37 people, although

there were 5 confirmed victims and 2 survivors.

These survivors were able to describe their attacker.

One survivor, Michael Mageau claimed the attacker was a white male between 26-30 years old and

around 200lbs at 5ft 8…so, quite large.

He also described the killer as being white and having short light brown curly hair.

Similarly, survivor Bryan Hartnell said his attacker was 511, so taller, and more than

170 lbs with glasses and greasy brown hair.

On several occasions, police received communication from the killer, or persons claiming to be

the killer in the form of a phone call and letters sent from the killer to local news

outlets.

They have DNA and fingerprints on file as well as eyewitness accounts.

So why, why has the killer never been found?

Good question.

Let's talk about the most likely contenders.

Back in the 1960s, Arthur Leigh Allen was the prime suspect in the 60s as a result of

the murder of Cheri Jo Bates.

Allen's former friend, Don Cheney reportedly said that his friend has expressed a desire

to kill and had previously referred to himself a zodiac.

Indeed, a zodiac watch was found in his house.

It seems he even had a typewriter like one used in a murder confession and one of the

survivors identified Allen in a lineup.

Police made Allen take handwriting test, which in the end did not match up to the zodiacs,

nor did his DNA and fingerprints.

Allen was later found dead in his California home.

Also up for debate is Richard Gikoswski, a crime, pro-violence, anti-police writer from

San Francisco.

Gikowski wrote for the Good Times Newspaper under the name Gike, the paper published a

lot of material about the zodiac killer…and one of the killers ciphers clearly had Gyke

written on it.

Unfortunately by the time yes turned to him, police couldn't get a search warrant or

his fingerprints.

Weirdly in 2013, people started believing that politician and attorney Ted Cruz was

the zodiac killer…apparently 10 percent of the Florida electorate thought it was him,

even though he was born two years after the killings began!

Other names brandished around have been Ham Radio enthusiast, Rick Marshall, Bruce Davis,

Gareth Penn… but again, police have never found any evidence.

Earl Van Best Jnr is the closest visual match to the infamous sketch of the Zodiac Killer,

and his son wrote a book claiming his biological dad was the murderer.

His son, Gary L Stewart claims that EV, Best, and JR can be found in the cipher codes and

that his fathers signature matches the handwriting in the Zodiac letters.

Police aren't taking it so seriously, but Stewart continues to fight for the link to

be made and is working with forensic experts to analyze his fathers DNA.

While identifying the Zodiac killer may seem hopeless with so many potentials, luckily,

all is not lost.

As time moves on, yes, we are less likely to find the killer alive, but we may be closer

to finding answers as modern technology allows for a better analysis of evidence.

Recently, using updated DNA profiling, Joseph D'Angelo as a suspect in Golden State killer

case.

Until recently the case of the 1970s and 80s murders was closed, but now the suspect has

been charged with all 12 murders in the Golden State Killer case.

Last week on KPIX News Channel it was announced that new DNA studying technologies may help

find the killer.

Dr Monte Miller, a Forensic DNA Expert, has said that the usefulness of the existing evidence

depends on how it was stored – if it was sealed and placed out of sunlight it may still

be good to work with, however, if it was kept in a box in a warehouse, then it may now be

useless.

So there we have it – we still have no idea who the Zodiac Killer is.

All we know is that he is or was a white male of medium to large build with glasses, which

doesn't really narrow it down.

He could also very well be dead by now.

Could it be possible that he slipped through the net and got away with it?

Or did he change tactic and get arrested for a different set of murders?

We may never know, but hopefully furthering forensics technologies will help us out.

Who do you guys think the zodiac killer was?

Let me know in the comments section down below.

Make sure you leave a thumbs up if you like our videos.

I am your host Rebecca Felgate, I'll catch you in the next video, but until then, stay

curious, stay alert and never ever stop questioning.

What is A Macronutrient? - Duration: 4:33.

What a macro nutrients fats proteins and cards and their role in a healthy diet

so what is a macro nutrient

as previously discussed macro nutrients are materials are body needs in large amounts in order to survive

we can think of these macro nutrients like the walls floor and ceiling of a house

you're going to need more material to build a wall and your home might not function the best

with the same stuff you use to make the ceiling as a floor no one structure is more important

but they all work together to make sure you and your family are protected from the

elements just like your body works together to protect you

of course if there are macro nutrients

then there are micronutrients

these micronutrients are things you need in small amounts in order to survive

like vitamins and minerals

using the house metaphor from the four while the walls are important you need nails to hold them together and glass to make windows

you don't need as much class four a wall as you do Brett but it's still important

what is a fat there are a lot of misconceptions around this particular macro nutrient

fats work together with proteins to keep them working in peak condition

as well as help store certain micronutrients

however not all fats are made equal

you've probably heard of the terms good fact and bad fat

the low we explain with a little help from Harvard university

what the difference in is good fats which include Mana Zetcher aided and

polyunsaturated fats come from plant based sources like nuts seeds and vegetable oils

as well as fish these are important to keep your body working like a well oiled machine

bad fats also known as strands saturated fats

are found in highly processed and animal based products like meat and dairy

these should be limited in your daily diet

you should a specially avoid sausage

baloney and other treated meets what is a protein

protein is a macro nutrient that is responsible for building and maintaining muscle mass

it also helps your maintain your metabolism

regulate your hormones and keep your body working the way it was intended

protein is found in a variety of sources

including both animal and plant based products

according to choose my plate.gov you should choose lean cuts of meat preferably fish or poultry

or better yet vegetable protein sources for the bulk of your dietary needs

what is a carbohydrate

you've probably heard a lot about the horrors of a CARB rich diet

but most of these horrors are just stories some of which we have previously covered in this blonde in fact the bulk of your diet should be

composed of healthy carbohydrates found in whole grains

foods that are minimally processed

like whole grain bread or Quinn Noah is the best source of healthy cards

vegetables are also another excellent source of carbohydrates as well as other vital micronutrients

the reason these sources are considered good is that your body burns them a little at a time

think would instead of lighter fluid

that carbohydrates like those found in junk food

candies and some starchy vegetables are food that your body burns quickly

resulting in quick energy spikes and crashes

your body has to work hard are to maintain constant energy

and these spikes and crashes can bleed you feeling sluggish

how much of each macro nutrient should I get

the 2010 dietary guidelines for Americans recommends keating within the following ranges carbohydrates 45 to 65% of calories

fat 20 to 35% of calories

protein 10 to 35% of calories

be sure to remember that everybody and lifestyle is different

and what works for one person may not be the perfect advice for the next person

Jonny May reveals what was discussed in emergency players meeting after 1st Test - Duration: 3:49.

Football News24/7  We might only be one match into England's series against South Africa but it has been revealed an emergency meeting between the players has already taken in the aftermath of Saturday's defeat

Head coach Eddie Jones had previously accepted responsibility for the mistakes made during the Six Nations, which saw England finish in fifth (their lowest finish since 1984), but it would appear the players have now taken it upon themselves to find a way out of the rut they currently find themselves in

After conceding another high proportion of penalties during the 42-39 defeat, Jonny May confirmed the players did get together to further stress the importance of staying on the right side of the referee

"We have spoken about discipline before - in the Six Nations it killed us and it was as bad as ever at the weekend," said May, per the Daily Mail

"At the meetings we had last night, the theme was discipline. Hopefully we have realised - we should have realised by now - the impact one penalty has on the momentum of a game, let alone back-to-back penalties

"It really does have a huge impact. You talk about a butterfly effect. It's chaos theory

One small action can have a huge impact later on in the game.  "We looked back at the Ireland game

Owen on a kick-chase took Sexton out. Penalty. Boom. Lineout penalty. Boom, high ball, try

One penalty can really get a team going and it is so frustrating because we know better than that, but at the moment - hands up - it's on us because it's not good enough

"It is frustrating sitting here saying the same things again, but we didn't adapt and learn quick enough on the pitch

"  Defeat in Johannesburg leaves England now on a run of four consecutive Test defeats and with Jones well and truly under the pressure

Therefore, with very little margin for error, the Australian will be desperate to get results swinging back in his favour on Saturday in the second test against the Springboks in Bloemfontein

What is Artificial Disc Replacement? - LEARN MORE - CALL 310 240 6032 - Duration: 1:40.

Artificial disc replacement which means you replace the damaged disc and you put in an

artificial disc in order to minimize the risk of adjacent segment breakdown meaning that

the disc above or below you do the fusion there's no added stress to it.

So this concept has been around for over 10 years in United States and Europe is not for

a long time but because of FDA issues obviously we are not as robust as Europe but I'm okay

because we're more stringent and more careful on how we do things here.

I have seen the tremendous success with the cervical spine the neck, the artificial disc

and I started basically, I've been incorporating now tons of artificial replacement in the

cervical spine and the results have been spectacular.

I mean patients I wish I could go back 12 years ago the patients I did fusion I wish

I could offer what I'm offering now with the artificial disc.

But again we didn't really know the technology and the results that were.

Now, we've had over 7 year results 10 year results and we seen some phenomenal results

with artificial disc in the neck and what I've learned is that okay if it doesn't work

you have not burn any bridges you can always convert it into a fusion later but I've also

learned that you can actually convert it to maybe a bigger artificial disc or a different

size artificial disc and that may work.

So there are this fantastic options which we were not able to offer 5 years ago to the

patients and this has been another great milestone that has been achieved to push and revolutionize

the field of spine surgery
