all right guys so we are here in the north Carolina state capitol right now about to continue

our tour of Raleigh's accessible treasures so let's get started

so welcome to our State Capitol this is the second building that stood in this

spot since Raleigh was established as the Capitol this one was completed in

1840 and it replaced a much smaller Statehouse that actually burned when

they were trying to fireproof it ironically unfortunately this building

was built to house all three branches of state government today we have one

branch we have the governor's office here the legislature moved out from the

second floor in the 1960s and as we move around you'll see it just didn't have a

ton of space for support staff and that kind of a thing but it was all done by

hand it was built in part by slave labor it has remained very unchanged it's one of

the least changed nineteenth-century capitols in the country I'll tell you a

little bit about our statue here this is a really unique statue of George

Washington but you wouldn't recognize

him would you yes normally you don't see George

Washington's knees and his toes you often don't see George Washington

sitting down this is actually a copy the original statue that was in the State House

that burned we have a funny story about how he got this Washington statue after

the war of 1812 patriotic feelings were at an all-time high

and North Carolina thought what better way to honor our country than to have a

statue of the first president some of our state leaders consulted with Thomas

Jefferson who was thought to have a very good opinion of the arts and could make

some recommendations and so he said you need to hire this young Italian sculptor

Antonio Canova and I would also suggest that we dress him in classical garb

Jefferson thought that American military uniforms of that time the tricorn

hats he thought they were of what he said

puny effect so he thought they were a little bit ridiculous looking and that

this would be a much better way to honor Washington

Wow I love how big the doors are

I know aren't they interesting the scale of this building is really it's really

interesting in this case we have a couple of the things that were saved

from the fire from the Statehouse this is what the original building looks like

the key to the door and some of the bricks and that sort of thing and here's

a little piece of that original statue oh my goodness and that was the key

You gotta look up while you're

in here because I love it is beautiful it's hard to believe that once when this

building opened it was the tallest building in the city

so are these influential people around north carolina

so part of what we do as the as the historic site the side of the building

is we put on exhibits and this is one that we're just borrowing from the

Craven County Arts Council and it's called composition Craven and they're

just people regular people in Craven County and so it's a photograph of them

and then they have what they're calling a verbal portrait and they just sort of

gave a little explanation they can talk about anything we thought it would be a

kind of a neat thing to display just different people all walks of life and

just different people who live in our state but this is the House of

Representatives chamber and so our legislature met here from 1840 until

1961 was the last session that they had here and we always like to talk about

Lillian Exum Clement who is your girl because she's from Buncombe County she

was the first female elected to serve in North Carolina's legislature and

actually any legislature in the south governor Cooper took his oath of office

in this room and governor McCrory before him so and governors will use it for

bill signings press conferences that kind of a thing so it still does get

used from time to time so similar setup over here although we only have 50

senators they have their individual desks but you still have the top spot

for the when this building opened was the Speaker of the Senate although today

that's the lieutenant governor they preside over the Senate the next

desk there's for the clerk's and then the table the curve table on the floor

that would be the newspaper reporters table so they actually had a good spot

up there and they could hear everything that was happening to kind of get the

news out to the out to the people we have this one desk set up here with some

items on it we're just trying to make the point of how little space they would

have had so his hat would have been on the desk because of course a gentlemen

would not wear his hat in the chamber and then a question that we often get are about

the little box of sand there you always ask is there a cat here but it's actually it's

very glamorous it's a spit box so of course we talked about North Carolina being a

tobacco producing state and a lot of the legislators being farmers and growing

tobacco and how things have changed over time

and that kind of a thing wouldn't it be cool to be able to step back in time and

see what a day looked like in here with everybody

we show some pictures on our tours we talk about some different people who

would have worked in the building but this is one of my favorite pictures so

this is from 1917 so 100 years ago but you can see how full it is in here and

just boards crammed in here it does kind of give you a better idea of how busy it

would have been

we worked with access in North Carolina and kind of made a ramp to come on so

there's easier access onto the square and then the ramp into the building the

way they designed it was so clever because you would never guess that it

wasn't always there but

it was it was very streamlined

it can be really difficult for architects to figure out the best way especially with something so old but they've done a really good job I'm pretty impressed

good i'm so glad to hear that

Jeff Sessions Just Took The One Action Barack Obama's Deep State Feared The Most - Duration: 15:10.

Jeff Sessions Just Took The One Action Barack Obama's Deep State Feared The Most

After months of inaction, Attorney General Jeff Sessions has finally stepped up.

It's a day the Deep State's been dreading.

Trump supporters cheered when Sessions made the big announcement that the Deep State has

feared the most.

The Department of Justice announced that Inspector General Michael Horowitz would investigate

the DOJ and the FBI for abuses in their application to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on Carter

Page.

Horowitz will also examine the contact information between the FBI and a confidential source

– whom many believe to be Christopher Steele.

Steele was the ex-British intelligence agent who put together the Russian collusion dossier.

The Daily Caller reports:

"THE OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL (OIG) WILL INITIATE A REVIEW THAT WILL EXAMINE THE

JUSTICE DEPARTMENT'S AND THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION'S (FBI) COMPLIANCE WITH

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS, AND WITH APPLICABLE DOJ AND FBI POLICIES AND PROCEDURES, IN APPLICATIONS

FILED WITH THE U.S. FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SURVEILLANCE COURT (FISC) RELATING TO A CERTAIN U.S. PERSON,"

DOJ SPOKESMAN JOHN LAVINSKY SAID IN A STATEMENT ACCOMPANYING THE ANNOUNCEMENT.

LAVINSKY EXPLAINED THAT "AS PART OF THIS EXAMINATION, THE OIG ALSO WILL REVIEW INFORMATION

THAT WAS KNOWN TO THE DOJ AND THE FBI AT THE TIME THE APPLICATIONS WERE FILED FROM OR ABOUT

AN ALLEGED FBI CONFIDENTIAL SOURCE."

LAVINSKY NOTED THAT THE INVESTIGATION WAS PROMPTED BY REQUESTS FROM SEVERAL MEMBERS

OF CONGRESS AND ATTORNEY GENERAL JEFF SESSIONS.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS RECENTLY RELEASED A MEMO CLAIMING WIDESPREAD ABUSE OF THE FISA PROCESS

ON THE PART OF THE DOJ AND FBI IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A SURVEILLANCE WARRANT ON FORMER TRUMP

CAMPAIGN ASSOCIATE CARTER PAGE.

THE TIMING OF THE INVESTIGATION AND THE REFERENCE TO MEMBERS OF CONGRESS POINT TO PAGE AS THE

U.S. PERSON.

THE STATEMENT'S REFERENCE TO A CONFIDENTIAL SOURCE SIMILARLY FLOATS CONCERNS FOUND IN

THE REPUBLICAN MEMO WHICH FOUND THAT THE FBI AND THE DOJ DID NOT DISCLOSE THE POLITICAL

ORIGINS OF THE STEELE DOSSIER IN ITS FISA APPLICATION AND REVEALED PREVIOUSLY UNDISCLOSED

TESTIMONY FROM FORMER FBI DEPUTY DIRECTOR ANDREW MCCABE THAT AN INVESTIGATION INTO PAGE

WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED WITHOUT STEELE'S DOSSIER."

This is bad news for the Deep State.

Even though Horowitz is an Obama appointee, he has a reputation for his honesty and integrity.

His investigation into the Clinton email server led to the discovery of the anti-Trump text

messages between Lisa Page and Peter Strzok.

And Andrew McCabe was fired because he misled Horowitz's investigators.

So this investigation will not be a white wash like the one James Comey led into Hillary's

email server.

The guilty parties will be found and they will be held accountable.

Are you glad Jeff Sessions chose this course of action?

Russia sends BOMBERS to US coast TWICE in two days as Trump-Putin relations intensify - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 2:36.

Russia sends BOMBERS to US coast TWICE in two days as Trump-Putin relations intensify

RUSSIA bombers have been intercepted for a second time in around 24 hours near the US

coast amid war tensions between the two nations.

The US military revealed it had detected two Russian long-range bombers entering international

airspace off the coast of Alaska on Tuesday night.

According to a US official it is believed the two TU-95 "Bear" aircraft were heading

towards the mainland after they were tracked entering the US military's Air Defence Identification

Zone (ADIZ) which extends 230 miles from the shore.

A US Air Force E-3 AWAC aircraft was reportedly dispatched from Elemendorf Air Force Base

in Anchorage and accompanied the Russian planes until they turned around 35 miles from the

coast.

It follows a similar harrowing incident on Monday night where a pair of US F-22 Raptor

aircraft intercepted two Russian TU-95 Bear jets near the Alaskan coast.

A Russian poll revealed almost a third of its citizens believe war with the US was a

possibility.

It is understood prior to Monday there had not been any similar Russian flights since

July 4, 2015, when Bear bombers were intercepted after approaching Alaska and California.

The Alaskan Command said it hadn't seen any reports of Monday's flight in Russian media

or any indication of the reason the bombers were sent.

The fly over comes just seven days after US President Donald Trump claimed relations with

Russia "may be at an all time low".

He even went so far as to claim Nato, a body he has previously been heavily critical of,

was no longer "obsolete" thanks to the emerging new threat from Mr Putin.

Speaking at a White House briefing following a two-hour meeting in Moscow between his secretary

of state Rex Tillerson and his Russian counterpart, Mr Trump said: "We're not getting along

with Russia at all."

Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev believes an arms race has already begun between Russia

and the West which mirrors the Cold War.

MAPPED: Russia nuke targets in the US as Trump and Putin risk WW3 - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 5:22.

MAPPED: Russia nuke targets in the US as Trump and Putin risk WW3

RUSSIA and the US are at each other's throats over Syria – and these are feared to be

the cities in firing line in World War 3.

Predictions by the US's top emergency response agency FEMA reveal the terrifying possibilities

of a nuclear attack by Russia on the US.

Vladimir Putin has the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons at his fingertips, with Donald

Trump just a hair's breadth behind as the two sides square–up to one another over

the Middle East.

Nuclear war between the US and Russia would turn the world into a wasteland and exterminate

huge portions of mankind.

But the people living in these 30 cities would likely be some of the first to perish in nuclear

infernos.

Daily Star Online can reveal the cities most likely to be targeted by Russia on the outbreak

of World War 3.

Major population centres will be some of the first in the firing line in nuclear war, as

both sides look to cripple the other.

FEMA simulations published throughout the Cold War predict these 30 cities will be among

the first to be struck should nuclear armageddon erupt.

The US capital of Washington D.C. would be destroyed, along with famous cities such as

New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.

Other large cities would be in the firing line, such as Detroit, Chicago, Denver and

Seattle.

Each of these strikes is likely to kill hundreds of thousands at a shot – and the US's problems

would not stop there.

Other small cities could be under threat, along with US military bases and nuclear missile

silos dotted around the country.

Radioactive fallout would also be sent blowing across the US and into Mexico and Canada,

poisoning and potentially killing thousands of others.

Russia's nuclear attack on the US could involve anything between 500 and 2000 warheads.

And Putin has made big noise this year about his new weapon the Satan 2 nuclear missile,

which he claims is unstoppable.

Putin currently has a strategic nuclear stockpile of 7,000 warheads, narrowly outstripping Trump's

arsenal of 6,800.

The biggest nuke ever tested by Russia is the devastating Tsar Bomba – with a maximum

explosive yield of 100 megatons of TNT.

One of these nukes dropped on New York would kill more than eight million people.

And the fallout would stretch deep into New Jersey and Connecticut, engulfing Asbury Park

and Stamford.

Luckily it was only tested once – not even at its full power – and was never placed

into active service.

FEMA – also known by its full name the Federal Emergency Management Agency – leads the

US government's response to any disasters.

Simulations of probable nuke targets were produced throughout the Cold War to better

prepare them for how to respond to the threat of armageddon.

And just weeks ago the head of the UN said the Cold War is back "with a vengenace".

Threats of nuclear war still loom large on planners' minds, with FEMA last year running

the drill Operation Gotham Shield.

Four days of exercises were carried out by military and emergency services to simulate

a full–scale nuclear attack on New York.

Moscow's row with Washington has exploded in recent weeks as Trump takes on "gas-killing

animal" Syrian dictator Bashar al–Assad.

Putin is supporting Assad in the Syrian Civil War, which has been raging since 2011 when

rebel groups tried to overthrow the regime.

Syria is accused of using chemical weapons against its own people, something that sparked

joint US, UK and French airstrikes on April 14.

Russia and Assad deny any involvement in the attack, either claiming it was a complete

hoax or staged by rebels – or shockingly Britain – to justify Western involvement

in the Middle East.

Tensions remain over allegations of US election interference by Russia, the poisoning of MI6

double agent Sergei Skripal in Salisbury, Putin's annexation of Crimea, and ongoing

accusations of aggression between NATO and Russia in the Baltic.

Trump has talked up improving relations with Putin, but has also said there is "bad blood"

between the two states.

The US President is expected to host the Russian leader in Washington later this year to help

improve relations.

Daily Star Online previously revealed Russian nuke targets in Britain amid tensions with Putin.

48 million people in the U.S. get food poisoning each year; new report reveals the most common

germs making us sick

by: Zoey Sky

No matter where you bought your food, be it a street vendor or a classy restaurant, if

it wasnt prepared properly you can get food poisoning.

Millions of food poisoning cases are reported in the U.S. yearly and a report has rounded

up some of the most common germs that caused food poisoning in 2017.

The report, which was published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),

examined information from a database that traced food poisoning cases at 10 labs all

over the U.S.

As per the CDC, at least 48 million people in the country get food poisoning every year.

The new report did not take into account rates of norovirus infection, which causes about

20 million cases of illness annually.

The CDCs report encompassed 49 million people, and a team of researchers examined

nine pathogens that were usually transmitted by food such as two types of parasites and

seven types of bacteria.

According to the report, the most common foodborne illness germ was Campylobacter, a bacterium

often found in raw poultry.

In 2017, there were at least 19 Campylobacter infections per 100,000 people.

The second most reported germ was Salmonella, which caused about 16 infections per 100,000

people.

Next was by Shigella and Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) (STEC), which both

caused at least four infections per 100,000 people.

(Related: 9 Home Remedies You Can Try When You Have Food Poisoning.)

Compared to 2014 to 2016, the report determined a 10 percent increase in the rate of Campylobacter

infections and a 28 percent increase in the rate of STEC infections in 2017.

But the researchers posited that some of these increases could have been because of a relatively

new type of lab test that they used called a culture-independent diagnostic test.

The new lab test allowed researchers to test for foodborne pathogens by scanning for proteins

or genetic material tied to the pathogens instead of painstakingly growing germs in

lab dishes.

The culture-independent diagnostic test is more effective at looking for bacteria and

other pathogens, unlike the older tests.

The researchers also noted a 35 percent decrease in infections with E. coli O157, a type of

STEC, in 2017 compared with 2006 to 2008.

This decrease reflected a drop in E. coli O157 germs detected in ground beef for the

same period.

In general, while the rate of Salmonella infections was similar for 2017 and in the 2014 to 2016

period, there was a decrease in the rate of infections for two strains of Salmonella:

S. typhimurium and S. Heidelberg.

These could have been because of the steps taken to vaccinate chickens against these

strains of Salmonella, along with other measures that helped to prevent the contamination of

meat products.

The researchers suggested that enforcing more control measures, introducing new or revising

current meat and poultry performance standards, and improving training and guidance for industry

and inspection personnel can help prevent foodborne illness.

Tips to prevent food poisoning To prevent foodborne illness, follow the tips

below:

Cook food properly Cook food to the right internal temperature to eliminate any harmful

bacteria.

Use a food thermometer if youre not sure about the required temperature.

Maintain cleanliness Always wash your hands and keep work surfaces clean.

Germs can survive in the nooks and crannies in your kitchen such as countertops, cutting

boards, utensils, and even your hands so scrub everything before you cook and eat.

Store foods separately Make sure that you store eggs, poultry, raw meat, ready-to-eat

foods and seafood separately in your shopping cart, refrigerator, and meal preparation area.

North Korea reverses nuclear activity: US reacts fast - Duration: 2:31.

North Korea will stop its nuclear and missile testing activities and close a nuclear test

site.

North Korea will stop its nuclear and missile testing activities, which will take effect

immediately and shut down a nuclear test site in an effort to contribute to the economic

and peace-building agenda.

on the Korean Peninsula, the state media said on April 21 ahead of the upcoming summit talks

with South Korea and the United States.

North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un has said that his country no longer needs to conduct

nuclear tests or test intercontinental ballistic missiles for accomplishing nuclear weapons

development.

Reported by Korean Central Committee (KCNA).

"In order to ensure a smooth stop of nuclear tests, the nuclear test site in the north

of the country will be closed," KCNA said after Kim convened the first plenary session

this year.

of the Central Committee of the Labor Party of Korea on 20/4.

"The overall programs of the party and the country will go towards building a socialist

economy, and all our efforts will be made towards this goal," KCNA said.

A plenary session of the ruling party was convened Friday to discuss "policy issues

in a new phase" to meet the requirements of the "critical historical moment", KCNA to

speak.

North Korea also said it would engage in talks with the international community, paving the

way for a summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in - scheduled for next week and

a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

in late May or early June.

Mr Trump welcomed the statement and said he expected a summit with Mr Kim.

"North Korea has agreed to suspend all nuclear tests and close a large test site, which is

good news for North Korea and the world - a great advance!

We, "Trump said on Twitter.

Former US Attorney Brendan Johnson Endorses Jolene Loetscher - Duration: 1:43.

Hi. My name is Brendan Johnson. I'm the former US Attorney for the State of South Dakota

and now in private practice in Sioux Falls.

And just wanted to express my support for Jolene Loetscher,

and what it is about her vision when it comes to law enforcement that I find particularly appealing.

Jolene, when it comes to law enforcement, embraces this idea of community policing.

Now, we know in Sioux Falls that we have one of the best police forces in the country.

But, as with any growing community, we have an increase in crime.

What Jolene is seeing that we need to do more of as a community is

really, what we call in law enforcement a three legged stool model.

Where we focus not only on prosecution, but on

prevention and rehabilitation. And Jolene's vision is to bring all three of those to the city of Sioux Falls

through community prosecution where you have our great police department

working closely with all Sioux Falls citizens. Reaching out to those in the community

so that they feel safe and comfortable reporting potential crimes to the Sioux Falls Police Department.

So that victims, whether they be victims of violent crime,

with domestic violence, with human trafficking.

That they're comfortable going to the police department

and the police department is really a part of those communities.

And it's because of Jolene's vision when it comes to

community policing, rehabilitation, strong prosecution,

those are the reasons why I'm so proud

to support Jolene Loetscher to be the next mayor of the city of Sioux Falls.
