Countermeasures to U.S. trade commission's safeguard measures on Samsung, LG washers - Duration: 2:25.

The U.S. International Trade Commission leaned in favor of American washing machine manufacturers

crying foul play over Korean rivals making more popular products.

In response a group of experts in the Seoul's public and private sector held meetings to

gauge the impact of the move and to devise countermeasures,

Cha Sang-mi has the details.

A group of Korean officials, trade experts and senior executives of local washing machine

producers met on Wednesday... to discuss the implications of ... and possible countermeasures

to... the suggested global safeguard measures issued by the U.S. International Trade Commission

on Korean-made washers and washer parts.

At the meeting, Kang Sung-cheon, the Deputy Minister for Trade, said the Korean government

would review ways to file a joint complaint with Vietnam to the WTO if the measures come

into effect early next year.

The government will also reach out to key figures of the U.S. administration to express

their stance on the matter and minimize damage to Korean manufacturers.

Leaders of Samsung and LG also promised to contact governors and congressmen from Tennessee

and South Carolina, where the companies are building factories for final assembly, highlighting

that import restrictions would limit American consumer choice and hinder Samsung and LG's

job creation efforts in the U.S.

The meeting comes after the ITC called for a 50 percent tariff rate on Korean large residential

washers exceeding an import quota of 1-point-2 million units, at a hearing in Washington

on Tuesday.

The tariffs will come in a 3-year quota system, and will decrease each year from 50 percent

in the first year.

The ITC's move comes after American appliance giant Whirlpool made an initial complaint

against its Korean rivals, Samsung and LG Electronics, earlier this year.

The panel also placed a tariff on imported washer parts, and was split on whether to

impose a further 20 percent tariff on washers imported under the 1-point-2 million unit

quota.

The recommendation will be reported to President Trump,... who is expected to make his final

decision next February.

If ratified,... it would be the second time for Washington to impose global safeguard

limits.

Former President George W. Bush imposed temporary tariffs of up to 30 percent on steel imported

from several countries, including Korea, in 2002.

Thanksgiving 2017 Google Doodle in U.S - Duration: 1:46.

The Search Engine Google is showing this animated Doodle in United States for the Thanksgiving

2017.

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is a public holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday

of November in the United States.

It originated as a harvest festival.

Thanksgiving has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789, after Congress requested

a proclamation by George Washington Although Thanksgiving has historical roots

in religious and cultural traditions, it has long been celebrated as a secular holiday

as well.

Three hundred ninety-six years ago, the Pilgrims celebrated their first successful harvest

with Native Americans of the Wampanoag tribe.

As time flew by, feasts like these became beloved traditions that flocked through the

colonies, and in 1863, Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in United

States.

The poor are often provided with food at Thanksgiving time.

Most communities have annual food drives that collect non-perishable packaged and canned

foods, and corporations sponsor charitable distributions of staple foods and Thanksgiving

dinners.

Together with Christmas and the New Year, Thanksgiving is a part of the broader fall/winter

holiday season in the U.S.

Though the pardoning of turkeys has been a presidential privilege since 1989, the Turkey

in this Google Doodle has decided to pardon itself.

What is Thanksgiving? | Learn About the US | English and American Culture | Holidays - Duration: 2:13.

What is Thanksgiving? Okay let's start with a history. where does it come from?

first there's the history that we tell ourselves, more of a legend, not very

accurate. this is the idea of the pilgrims some of the first European

settlers who arrived to the United States, and the Native Americans or

Indians, having this big friendly feast in the year 1637. so that's what we tell

ourselves, that's the friendly history of

Thanksgiving. but in reality, on that same date, it was actually a massacre. the

slaughter of around 700 Native Americans. the reason that the pilgrims celebrate,

is because after they kill this huge number of Indians, they had a big feast.

they ate a lot of food and now we celebrate that. a dark history, right?

anyways it's a happy holiday! so when do we celebrate it? the last Thursday of

November, every year! and so what exactly is it today? it's the most important

holiday for visiting family. now, it's not the most important holiday. Christmas is

the most popular and celebrated holiday. Thanksgiving is just the most important

for visiting your relatives, seeing your family and friends. so what do we do? well

we eat, we talk and we argue. the arguing is more of a joke, but let me explain!

first we eat. It's most common on Thanksgiving to have a Thanksgiving

dinner, although some people do have a Thanksgiving lunch. the three most

important foods: turkey, anything with cranberries, and pumpkin pie, or really

any type of pie. and because all of the family is there, gathered around the

table eating this big feast, there's a lot of conversation. it's a good time to

catch up with family and friends. to find out what people have been doing. but

because you're catching up, especially with a lot of your distant relatives,

people you don't know very well, it's a good opportunity for debate and argument.

that's why we always are very careful, we tread lightly, when it's time for the

Thanksgiving dinner. you zip your mouth shut, and just eat! so

those are the most important characteristics of Thanksgiving. if you

have any other questions, put them in the comments!

U.S. Small Arms Experiences and Use in the Vietnam War - Duration: 10:32.

- Hey guys, I wanna make this quick.

'Cause we gotta get to an interview

with Colonel Dylan talking about US small arms

in the Vietnam War.

Thanks again Proxibid,

thanks again Ventura Munitions,

for helping us out with this channel,

and thanks again you guys, for helping us watch

and helping being the viewership of this channel.

Thank you so much for everything you provide to us.

In the mean time, please enjoy this interview

because I think Colonel Dylan has some awesome stuff

to say about experiences with US troops in the Vietnam War

and the small arms that some of our fathers,

some of our grandfathers actually use in the war.

- No pistols.

The only thing I used my pistol for in Vietnam

was to shoot locks off stuff.

- Okay.

- The M16, we would not have survived

in that battle with the M16 because every trooper

had over 300 rounds of ammunition to start of.

- So were you guys trained on M14s beforehand?

And then you transition to the M16?

- Oh yeah, we had M14s right too.

A month, two months before.

- Before the battle? - Before we were gonna go.

Then with the battle was about three months.

- Before you even went to Vietnam.

- A lot of people didn't like it.

It was to light, it won't,

you had to put a lot of maintenance.

You got to constantly clean them to make them effective.

The light weight of the ammunition made up

for the deficiencies, because if we'd had M14s,

you can only carry about 100 rounds in those clips.

- So the combat load for the troopers

that were going to into Ia Drang was what,

300 rounds per trooper? - 300, 350 rounds.

- Per trooper?

- Per trooper.

- Wow, you guys were loaded down.

- Yes.

I thought it was an effective rifle for that reason.

The second tour, we had a lot.

I was in the delta with a lot of rivers,

a lot of river crossing,

some of my troops, if they didn't constantly,

if they'd wait a couple rivers,

and they wouldn't clean their weapon out,

it might not fire when they want it.

But down there, very rarely do we ever have

any life and death fights,

because it was so open,

large enemy forces couldn't hide anywhere.

So they were normally small, we kill most of them

are kills at night on ambushes.

You just didn't, we had one or two pretty good sized battles

but most of it was, I would land about 20 platoons,

landings all over different places.

The bad guys would jump up and run

and the gunships, we all have gunships,

when the gunships would come.

So the troops really weren't involved that much

in physical contact with the bad guys

other than counting them when they were dead.

The mortars will always back in a kind of a safe area.

- The 60s and the 81s.

- 60s.

We had 81s in both the battalions, we had 81.

Didn't have any 60s.

They were effective, especially the fire-based

I had down and they could fire round.

There were only a few spots where rice paddies crossed

that had enough solid ground that the bad guys

could set up a mortar on it.

So we had all those plotted,

so had an artillery company battery,

had six weapons and I had a 155 track,

that had four weapons.

So we would pick out and then

each of the mortars from all the company,

we would pick out those little solid places at night.

And we had a mortar detector, or round detector,

when they fired it, it would give the coordinates

of where it came from.

And then we would immediately fire that weapon

that had that coordinate

and about half the time we fly out there the next day

and there would be a mortar sitting there

and four dead bodies next to it.

- Really? - Yeah.

- Wow. - But we got an awful lot.

At night, we could put a star light,

- Scope on it.

- We got most of our kills were by,

would have two snipers, and I have at least

one squad, sometimes two.

Their job was to secure those two guys,

make sure nobody got to them.

That's where we got a lot of our kills.

I went to the, where they train some of the snipers,

up in Cu Chi.

- How was that assessment and selection,

during Vietnam, how did that work?

Would they take guys off the line?

- What did you shoot when you were in AIT?

Were you an expert?

- Yeah, I was.

- Okay, we want you to try this.

You are willing to do that?

They had these steel plates out.

I was sitting there in a school chair,

the old school chair that has the little lid comes out,

sitting out there shooting down about 1,000 yard.

Hit that thing every time.

- Yeah.

- Yeah, so it's an accurate weapon.

- Are we talking about the Remington 700 or the M14?

- M14.

- The semi automatic.

- They used the M14s which match grade ammunition.

- And barrels.

- Fiber glass in the things with any vibration,

- The stark, yeah.

What about machine guns like medium heavy,

the M60s, the M2s.

- Those things we have was M60.

Our M60, I've seen them fire until the barrels

were red hot, you could see the bolts going down the thing.

But being able to change the barrel,

you gotta have the big asbestos gloves.

- You had to have those.

- To pull them off and change them.

But sometimes in the middle of attack,

when this guy, Bill Beck, the one I told you about,

shoulder guy, the wannabe.

He was a machine gunner in eight company

and right in the middle of a big attack,

he was assistant machine gunner,

the machine gunner got wounded.

- Don't lose those gloves.

- He killed over 200 with that,

just continuous firing.

And killed the last four with his pistol.

Only guy I know ever killed anybody with a pistol.

The first thing I did with the new people

was bring them in, we'd go down by the river,

put up a ammo box, say, okay here fire full automatic

at that ammo box.

Bam, they go down, how many holes you got in it?

Two? Three? Two?

Okay, go back here, I want you to fire semi automatic.

The fastest you can pull the trigger,

but aiming at the target.

Bang, bang, how many have you got in there?

12? (coughs)

Does that tell you anything?

Is there a message there?

- Accuracy over volume.

- Try, but invariably, when we get into a firefight,

they're gonna fire on,

- On fully automatic.

- Yeah, but they knew they had a lot of ammunition.

Then my second tour, they came out with

bandoliers, so they pull the clip out and put it in.

And then they came out with 30 round clips for the M16.

- But were those used in Vietnam?

Or towards the tail end, or they were just,

would later on in the army? - I had one in,

would've been 70, no 69.

They started getting them then.

- Really? - Yeah.

Ten more shots, (gurgling).

- Yeah, yeah.

M79s in the bloopers in Vietnam.

- Great weapon.

They came out with a flechette round for the M79.

That was good close quarter,

but most of those guys did not use a sight.

They could, you'd see the enemy

that they were gonna shoot at,

and they could just look at it and fire that thing,

and if they didn't hit them on the first,

they'd hit them on the second one.

I think your brain is,

and eyes are better calculators than you are.

- Yeah, more intuitive.

- I never saw it could use a sight,

he was always, boom, boom,

and hit what he was looking at.

I had one problem with, I had lurps.

- Long-range reconnaissance patrols?

- Long-range reconnaissance.

These guys, hey we're the long-range reconnaissance,

look at it, we have camouflage and everything,

and I've got a Swedish K and he's got a thing.

So what happens when you run out of ammunition?

Who can share ammunition with you?

Well, nobody.

(Miles laughs)

Maybe everybody has an M16,

if somebody shoots up all their ammunition,

they might get some help from one of their buddies.

You want us to change.

Yes, I want you to change.

(cheerful music)

North Korea denounces U.S. terror listing as grave provocation - Duration: 1:29.

North Korea broke its silence and has slammed the United States for redesignating it as

a state sponsor of terrorism,... calling it a serious provocation.

Pyongyang's foreign ministry says that President Trump's decision will only intensify the regime's

commitment... to retain its nuclear arsenal.

Our Kim Hyo-sun brings us the regime's latest remarks.

North Korea has criticized the U.S. for relisting the country as a state sponsor of terrorism.

In its first reaction to President Trump's designation,... a spokesman for North Korea's

Foreign Ministry called the decision as a serious provocation.

He also warned that Washington will be held accountable for all the consequences,... while

stressing that the designation will only strengthen the regime's resolve to retain its nuclear

program.

North Korea's state-run organization, the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, released

a separate statement,... which called for Washington to immediately withdraw its decision.

(KOREAN) "The U.S. must seriously ponder upon the fact

that the anger and hatred of our military and people could lead to an undesirable retaliation."

As such a reaction comes a day after the designation with no detailed threats mentioned,... pundits

U.S. announces new sanctions on N. Korea and Chinese entities - Duration: 2:22.

Washington imposed additional sanctions on North Korea and Chinese firms suspected of

having business ties with Pyongyang.

These companies are believed to have shipped hundreds of millions of dollars worth of goods

to the North.

Ji Myung-kil fills us in on the latest U.S. measures to reign in the out of control regime.

The U.S. Treasury Department says it is blacklisting one Chinese national,... 13 entities... and

20 shipping vessels... for helping Pyongyang bypass UN sanctions.

The sanctions will target transportation networks,... as well as individuals and trading firms with

business ties to North Korea... to cut off funding for its nuclear and missile developments.

But one North Korean expert conveyed his pessimism.

(Korean) "The North Korean regime's lifeline is oil.

If China is reluctant to cut off oil supplies through a pipeline, then extra measures taken

by the U.S. can be significant but not fully effective.

Traders in China's northeast region bordering North Korea should also abide by the sanctions

for them to be effective."

The U.S. has already introduced a slew of new punitive measures against Pyongyang this

year... which also target Chinese and Russian entities.

According to the Treasury Department,... since 2013,... four Chinese trading companies...

exported over 6-hundred-70 million U.S dollars of goods to North Korea... while importing

100 million dollars worth of goods.

(Korean) "Designating Chinese companies on the sanction

list is a symbolic move... as the U.S. plans to indirectly pressure North Korea through

pressuring a third party...

China... on par with ongoing sanctions."

However, China's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Beijing is against the unilateral

sanctions slapped by Washington.

The latest move comes... just one day after President Trump announced... the U.S. was

reinstating North Korea... on its list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The regime is now one of four countries in the world to be designated as such,... joining

the ranks of Iran, Sudan and Syria.

The reclusive regime had been removed from that list... in 2008 under the previous George

W. Bush administration... as part of a nuclear deal which ultimately collapsed.

US Navy plane crashes into sea - rescue operation for 11 on board

A US Navy statement said the cause of the crash was unknown. A recovery operation is underway.  Eleven people, described as crew and passengers, were on board when the plane crashed into the sea.

Japan said eight of those on board had been found.

They offered no further detail on their condition.  The US Navy statement said: "A United States Navy aircraft carrying 11 crew and passengers crashed into the ocean southeast of Okinawa at approximately 2:45 p.m. today.

"The names of the crew and passengers are being withheld pending next of kin notification. "Personnel recovery is underway and their condition will be evaluated by USS Ronald Reagan medical staff. "The aircraft was en-route to the U.S.

Navy aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), which is currently operating in the Philippine Sea. "USS Ronald Reagan is conducting search and rescue operations. The cause of the crash is not known at this time.".

It is the latest in a string of tragic incidents involving the US Navy this year.  In June the USS Fitzgerland collided with a cargo ship near Japan.

Seven people died.  And in August 10 people died when the USS John McCain collided with an oil tanker near Singapore. .

Japans Minister of Defence Itsunori Onodera said the US Navy had informed him the crash may have been a result of engine trouble.

The propeller powered transport plane, a C-2 Greyhound, carries personnel, mail and other cargo from mainland bases to carriers operating at sea.

The aircraft has been in operation for more than five decades and is due to be replaced by the long-range tilt-rotor Osprey aircraft.
