The United States has imposed additional sanctions on North Korea... as well as Chinese firms

with suspected business ties with the regime.

This comes... after President Trump hinted at more sanctions on Monday... while naming

North Korea a state sponsor of terror.

Yu Joonhee reports.

The U.S. Treasury Department says it's blacklisting one Chinese national,... 13 entities... and

20 shipping vessels... for helping Pyongyang bypass UN sanctions.

In a statement Tuesday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said... the new measures were

in line with Washington's efforts... to maximize economic pressure... and isolate the regime

from external sources of trade and revenue.

The sanctions will target transportation networks,... as well as individuals and trading firms with

business ties to North Korea... to cut off funding for its nuclear and missile developments.

The U.S. has already introduced a slew of new punitive measures against Pyongyang this

year... which also target Chinese and Russian entities.

According to the Treasury Department,... three Chinese trading companies...

exported roughly six-hundred-50 million U.S. dollars in goods to North Korea... while importing

100 million dollars worth... over a recent four-and-a-half year period.

These included vital commodities like coal and iron... as well as vehicles, machinery

and other items... associated with North Korea's construction of nuclear reactors.

The latest move comes... just one day after President Trump announced... the U.S. was

reinstating North Korea... on its list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The regime is now one of four countries in the world to be designated as such... joining

the ranks of Iran, Sudan and Syria.

The reclusive nation had been removed from that list... in 2008 under the previous George

W. Bush administration... as part of a nuclear deal which ultimately collapsed.

Trump Just Got Last Laugh, Kathy Griffin Just Denounced U.S. & Leaves The Country - Duration: 4:53.

Now, this is what I call the trash taking itself out!

In what every red-blooded Patriotic American can consider a huge Thanksgiving gift, Kathy

Griffin has just announced she will be leaving the United States for at least four years.

And the reason is that, of course, she hates President Donald Trump.

After Griffin participated in a gruesome photo shoot which featured the so-called comedienne

holding a bloody, decapitated fake head resembling President Donald Trump, not unlike her Isis

counterparts.

Celebrities, and prominent media figures expressed a range of responses on social media, with

many criticizing the image as being in bad taste.

Although Kathy Griffin has "apologized" for the gory image she created with photographer

Tyler Shields, it seems both sides of the political aisle weren't impressed by it

and she has managed to bring her career to an abrupt end.

Obviously, she has wasted no time in playing the victim card and declared that at age 57

she doesn't have a lot of time to be patient.

Griffin begged people not to be "too hard" on her after claiming to be in the middle

of a Hollywood blacklist and added that when she gets back home she doesn't have one

single day of paid work in front of her.

Awww. poor little liberal.

She pulls an awful stunt like she did and she is the poor victim.

Maybe in her book, but not in the book of Americans, both on the left and right sides

of the aisle.

The Huffington Post Reports:

Kathy Griffin Referred To Anderson Cooper As A 'Spineless Heiress'

The comedian made the comment to the Daily Beast during an interview about Lisa Bloom.

Kathy Griffin isn't pulling any punches.

On Sunday, the Daily Beast published an article in which the comedian referred to Anderson

Cooper as "the Spineless Heiress."

Griffin's comment was part of an article about her public dispute with former attorney

Lisa Bloom, who represented her after photos of Griffin posing with President Donald Trump's

"severed head" surfaced online in May.

The controversial pictures not only cost Griffin her CNN New Year's Eve hosting gig, but

also spurred Cooper, who was Griffin's co-host and longtime friend, to condemn them on Twitter.

Cooper didn't reach out to give Griffin a heads up about his tweet before he posted

it and didn't initially check in on Griffin after she received backlash for the photos,

which hurt her feelings, New York Magazine reported.

Adding insult to injury, Cooper went on "Watch What Happens Live" in July and told host

Andy Cohen that he and Griffin were "still friends."

When Cooper finally reached out to Griffin in a series of texts in August, she ended

their friendship.

Cooper is the son of clothing designer Gloria Vanderbilt, who is a descendent of shipping

and railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt.

He told People in 2016 that he will not inherit any of the Vanderbilt fortune, and acknowledged

that he was very lucky to grow up with "great privilege."

During Griffin's interview with the Daily Beast, she expressed her disappointment with

Bloom.

Griffin estimated that she paid the celebrity attorney $40,000 for two days of legal representation,

and said that Bloom tried to pressure her into a press tour.

Griffin added that a press conference she did with Bloom in June was a mess.

The comedian also tweeted at Bloom on Sunday, telling her, "Stop calling me.

If you'd like to refund me the tens of thousands of $$ I wasted on your services maybe I'll

talk to you."

Bloom — who also represented Harvey Weinstein before cutting ties with him earlier this

month — told the Daily Beast that the press conference was a disaster because Griffin

spoke off the cuff and did not use notes the two had worked on together.

She also said she had only texted Griffin once in the past three months.

"The last time I spoke to Kathy, at a group dinner recently, she gave me a big hug, was

very friendly and said everything was great between us," Bloom said.

"I had no idea there was a problem until a reporter reached out to me about this a

few days ago."

The announcement that she's leaving the US came a few days after the has-been entertainer

fainted on stage in Dublin.

Because being an extreme left-wing hack must be draining work.

Glad to see both sides of the political spectrum coming together and saying she went too far.

And at the age of 57, she should have known better and there is no excuse imaginable.

This wasn't just a tweet that came out in the heat of the moment.

This was planned out and she had weeks, if not months, to think about what repercussions

she would face for putting this picture out there.

ALERT: US Marine Patrolling US Border Has A Terrifying Warning For Americans After What He Found - Duration: 3:03.

To all of you out there who think those of us who supported, and voted for, then candidate

Donald Trump because we are xenophobic and racist, here is your wake up call.

A former United States Marine Patrolling the Mexico-Texas Border has a chilling message

for you and all Americans.

"In an interview with Dennis Michael Lynch, a former U.S. Marine who served in the Middle

East is now an active member of a border group that patrols the southern border.

He is a former bomb expert trained by the Department of Defense.

Known to his pals as "Talon," he shared his thoughts about the "other than Mexicans"

that have been coming through the border for years.

"The Chinese and Middle Eastern people coming through the border are not coming here to

cut our lawns and wash dishes.

They hate us with a passion," said Talon.

When referring to the Muslims who hate the U.S. he said, "We are the infidels and they

think we deserve to die."

DML asked him how long until another 9/11?

Talon answered, "I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet.

Let me tell you that once they figure out how to get a nuke through the border, we will

lose a U.S. city."

There are congressional reports that reveal the drug cartels work with terror groups from

the Middle East."

All this isn't news to those of us already living in border states.

We see what's coming in on a daily basis.

Our cities are being overrun by gang crime like never before.

The best of the best doesn't just walk across our borders.

These aren't children with "Divinity in their Eyes" as Nancy Pelosi calls them.

Since President Trump's inauguration, there has been a sharp decrease in illegals crossing

the border illegally, but we won't be secure until the wall is built and we are able to

stop them completely.

Last week Attorney General Jeff Sessions sent official letters to the 9 different cities,

counties and the whole state of California ordering them to stop the madness and let

The Department of Homeland Security and ICE do their job.

If not they will be punished by ceasing to send these 9 entities federal funds.

I know my home state of California can't survive long on its own although liberals

and loony politicians actually believe it can.

Maybe legalizing Marihuana in this state wasn't such a great idea after all.

To all you Liberals out there, please, stop with the finger pointing and accusations.

This isn't about being bigoted, Islamophobic, Xenophobic, or whatever "phobic" you want

to invent next.

It's about our very survival of as a nation, as a culture and as a people.

If you need to, pretend the bad people slipping in through the border are Christians and Jews.

I'm sure if they were you would have no issue whatsoever in building a wall to stop

them, but please to play with our security and very existence only because you believe

in the madness that is Political Correctness.

Countermeasures to U.S. trade commission's safeguard measures on Samsung, LG washers - Duration: 2:24.

The U.S. International Trade Commission leaned in favor of American washing machine manufacturers

crying foul play over Korean rivals making more popular products.

In response a group of experts in the nation's public and private sector held meetings to

gauge the impact of the move and to devise countermeasures,

Cha Sang-mi has the details.

A group of Korean officials, trade experts and senior executives of local washing machine

producers met on Wednesday... to discuss the implications of ... and possible countermeasures

to... the suggested global safeguard measures issued by the U.S. International Trade Commission

on Korean-made washers and washer parts.

At the meeting, Kang Sung-cheon, the Deputy Minister for Trade, said the Korean government

would review ways to file a joint complaint with Vietnam to the WTO if the measures come

into effect early next year.

The government will also reach out to key figures of the U.S. administration to express

their stance on the matter and minimize damage to Korean manufacturers.

Leaders of Samsung and LG also promised to contact governors and congressmen from Tennessee

and South Carolina, where the companies are building factories for final assembly, highlighting

that import restrictions would limit American consumer choice and hinder Samsung and LG's

job creation efforts in the U.S.

The meeting comes after the ITC called for a 50 percent tariff rate on Korean large residential

washers exceeding an import quota of 1-point-2 million units, at a hearing in Washington

on Tuesday.

The tariffs will come in a 3-year quota system, and will decrease each year from 50 percent

in the first year.

The ITC's move comes after American appliance giant Whirlpool made an initial complaint

against its Korean rivals, Samsung and LG Electronics, earlier this year.

The panel also placed a tariff on imported washer parts, and was split on whether to

impose a further 20 percent tariff on washers imported under the 1-point-2 million unit

quota.

The recommendation will be reported to President Trump,... who is expected to make his final

decision next February.

If ratified,... it would be the second time for Washington to impose global safeguard

limits.

Former President George W. Bush imposed temporary tariffs of up to 30 percent on steel imported

from several countries, including Korea, in 2002.

Ruthie Bolton - U.S. Sports Envoy visit to Samoa, October 23 - 27, 2017 - Duration: 3:32.

[Ruthie Bolton]

Hi, my name is Ruthie Bolton, but they call me Mighty Ruthie.

I just finished a week of amazing basketball and also empowering women for the US Department

of State.

I was here as a

Sports Envoy and I had an amazing, amazing time.

I mean the experience I will carry with me for a lifetime.

I got a

chancve to go to alot of schools but Vaimauga really, really, really touched my heart, being

able to see the kids out

there just giving it a hundred percent, I really was empowered by their effort and by

their humility and the principal

led the way.

Every place I went really was a blessing, being serenaded by their traditional songs

and just such a

blessing and the kids are just so talented and I tell you, what an amazing, amazing empowering

moment to be able to

share with the women here of Samoa, the women about domestic violence and my experience

of it.

Thankfully I was able

to be transparent, watching the Mighty Ruthie film, being able to relay the message of turning

pain to power, working

with the National Boys and girls teams was just really awesome, I see great things in

the future for them.

There's a saying, sometimes less is more, a lot of the kids didn't have some of the

things that Americans have, but

I'm telling you, they gave 100% and just being able to see that really, really showed how

humble they are andshowed

true character so it was really a blessing to see they gave efforts in spite of what

they didn't have.

Kids having a lot of fun, being able to really empower kids about nutrition was just awesome,

I'm really convinced

that to the world you might be one person, but to one person you could be the world and

I really hope that what I was

this week here at this, in Samoa and I had an amazing time and really being able to fellowship

you know with the

people here and the kids and the women, it's just been a blessing and as I said you travel

in this world, there's a

lot of things that just touches the eyes but there's a few things that really touches the

heart and they've really

captured my heart and I really look forward to coming back and just fellowshipping with

them more and teaching them

about basketball and just really being in their confidence because it really was an

awesome, awesome experience that I

shall never forget

[Hele Matatia]

There's been a real good positive week this week with Ruthie, first it was about developing

basketball and a lot of

kids have had a great experience with Ruthie and I know that we've had a lot, we will have

a lot of rising stars

coming from Samoa.

Second is her message on domestic violence, and I know that this is, she's come at a critical

time

here in Samoa for domestic violence and I know she's given a message of hope to a lot

of young women out there to rise

up, to rise up, so it's been real positive week and we had, we really enjoyed having

her here.

I love you Ruthie!

[Ruthie Bolton]

Unfortunately this is coming to an end for now but Thank you US Embassy, thank you for

allowing me to come and just be

a blessing and be blessed, I've just been fully empowered this whole week and I look

forward to coming back and really

continue to create this movement of impact and change because I feel like I'm part of

the family now and I really look

forward to continuing the efforts in the future

Top 10 Secret United States Government Bunkers - Duration: 13:31.

Top 10 Secret United States Government Bunkers . The United States of America contains many classified bunkers, particularly in relation to continuity of government. In the event of a terrorist attack, nuclear strike, or other catastrophic occurrence, US government leaders congregate in top secret facilities, all of which are strong enough to withstand severe blasts and provide survival necessities for extended periods of time. These exclusive fortified shelters are some of America's best-kept secrets and strongest lines of protection.

#10. Presidential Emergency Operations Center.

The Presidential Emergency Operations Center  is the bunker most often portrayed in popular culture. The infamous photograph of former President George W.

Bush meeting with the National Security Council following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, offers a glimpse into one of the most secure facilities in the nation.

During this catastrophe, former Vice President Dick Cheney, his wife, and many other high-ranking government officials were promptly escorted to the isolation and security of the PEOC.

It allegedly lies beneath the East Wing of the White House, the center of the executive branch and home of the president. Originally constructed during World War II by President Franklin D.

Roosevelt, the PEOC is built to resist nuclear weapons and designed to house the president and other important US leaders in an extreme crisis. Although exact details about the PEOC are highly classified, it has been speculated that it serves as a communication hub to all other vital COG organizations. The PEOC has been depicted in blockbuster hits such as Olympus Has Fallen and White House Downas well as Emmy-winning television series like House of Cards.

#9. Project Greek Island (Greenbrier).

Project Greek Island  was a covert agreement between the US government and the Greenbrier Resort  in West Virginia in the 1950s. The palatial hotel was to serve as the government continuity destination for the legislative branch.

The Greenbrier's sheer size could accommodate the two auditoriums within the bunker, which held 470 people and 130 people, respectively. Despite the magnitude of the bunker, it took 30 years to be discovered.

It has been reported that many aspects of the compound were visible in the hotel to the general public, including the giant blast doors.

The fact that the large majority of on-site bathrooms were male  also ignited intrigue. Supposedly, the owners were asked questions about the complex even though it was not uncovered until several years later.

Composed of sleeping quarters, a medical facility, an advanced air-filtration system, a broadcast center, and more, Greenbrier possesses concrete doors 1 meter thick. Interestingly, the bunker was maintained and staffed by government employees posing as television specialists from a fictitious company.

Project Greek Island was eventually exposed by a major national newspaper article and decommissioned as a result. Afterward, some of the employees went on to provide tours of the bunker. They remain employees of the hotel today. There are no current reports as to where Congress would meet in a modern-day event of catastrophic proportions.

#8. Raven Rock Mountain Complex.

Nestled at Raven Rock Mountain near Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania, the Raven Rock Mountain Complex is a military installation dubbed an "underground Pentagon.

" The mountain features an extensive telecommunications center for the US Air Force, US Army, and US Navy in the event of a nuclear attack.

The complex was originally formed to be a Cold War emergency shelter and continues to act as a relocation point for military National Command Authorities.

Its main occupant, however, is the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, which uses the multiple communications and computer systems.

It has been hypothesized that District 13 in The Hunger Games trilogy was modeled after the Raven Rock Mountain Complex due to its strong similarities in design and overall functions.

#7. Cheyenne Mountain Complex .

Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the Cheyenne Mountain Complex is an expansive military base and nuclear bunker. This center was formerly the North American Aerospace Defense Command  headquarters. NORAD remains headquartered in Colorado Springs. The complex was constructed under 760 meters  of solid granite and contains numerous buildings secured by 25-ton blast doors.

The facility was engineered with an abundance of springs which prevent any of the given buildings from shifting more than 2.5 centimeters  during all potential types of disaster.

Initially created to strengthen Cold War defensive strategy, the bunker is equipped to withstand the most dangerous bombings, missile strikes, and nuclear attacks. It features advanced oxygen systems in addition to its own power plant and water supply. The Cheyenne Mountain Complex ensures a 99.999 percent degree of reliability for these utilities.

#6.Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center.

In close proximity to the Capitol, the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center, which spans a staggering 564 acres in Virginia, serves as another mountain COG center. It is run by the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency .

The site remained secret until TWA Flight 514 crashed nearby in December 1974 and it was revealed that Mount Weather had served as a bunker for the president of the United States.

The Washington Post later reported that the facility was used by the helicopter-evacuated Congressional leadership following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City. There is limited information regarding the bunker as it is still in operation today.

#5. Deep Underground Command Center.

Potentially the most mysterious bunker, the Deep Underground Command Center was a military installation proposed in the early 1960s.

Situated 900–1,200 meters below the Earth's surface near the Pentagon, the facility was designed to resist blasts of 200- to 300-megaton weapons without losing its structural integrity. The DUCC was reportedly recommended to President John F. Kennedyimmediately before his assassination.

The proposal described a 50-person bunker with an expansion capability for 300 people. The result of the proposal remains unknown, although it has been surmised that it was halted following the president's death.

#4. Olney Federal Support Center.

The Olney Federal Support Center possesses a certain mystique, to say the least. Little information is definitive about the bunker. However, it is known to specialize in data networking functions. It is located just west of Laytonsville, Maryland, in Montgomery County and reportedly contains a large field of antennae for unknown purposes.

Many secret excavations have supposedly taken place at the site. None have been publicly addressed or explained. The facility also has strong ties to FEMA as part of its National Radio System, which links all other FEMA emergency operations bases.

#3. Canadian Forces Base North Bay.

The Canadian Forces Base  North Bay complex is one of a very few US international bunkers. It located in North Bay, Ontario, which is north of Toronto.

The facility serves as the hub of NORAD in Canada and is situated 60 floors beneath the ground.

During the Cold War, CFB North Bay was precariously located between the Soviet Union and the United States, making it a hot spot for potential conflict.

To combat this risk, it was designed to be able to resist an attack approximately 267 times more intense than the historically well-known bomb dropped at Hiroshima.

Though further information on CFB North Bay is scarce, it is known to have a strong correlation with the founding of NORAD in the late 1950s. This site remains operational.

#2. Warrenton Training Center .

Warrenton Training Center is a highly classified communications facility in Virginia. It primarily serves the Central Intelligence Agency  for various purposes, but it also contains a relocation bunker as part of the US COG program. The facility consists of four inconspicuous stations throughout the counties of Fauquier and Culpeper.

As the name implies, Warrenton Training Center is mainly a training school for several federal entities, including the CIA, the National Security Agency , the State Department, and Department of Defense. Although little is known about the use of the bunker, the site is definitely used for emergency NSA, DOD, and State Department practices.

#1. Selfridge AFB Radar Station.

Serving as a US Air Force Surveillance Radar Station, Selfridge began operations in 1959 in Michigan. The site is known for having several advanced radartechnologies with groundbreaking detection capabilities, the ability to coordinate multiple surface-to-air missile launches, and the Missile Master bunker.

In 1960, the Army Air Defense Command Post was constructed to arrange surface-to-air missile launches for Project Nike, a complex system of facilities and weaponry during the Cold War. However, the AADCP was eventually closed.

This radar station is now the location of the United States Marine Corps Reserve unit, and the bunker was transformed into an air traffic control center.

As the exact proceedings are highly classified , little is known as to whether the base is operational.

What is Thanksgiving? | Learn About the US | English and American Culture | Holidays - Duration: 2:13.

What is Thanksgiving? Okay let's start with a history. where does it come from?

first there's the history that we tell ourselves, more of a legend, not very

accurate. this is the idea of the pilgrims some of the first European

settlers who arrived to the United States, and the Native Americans or

Indians, having this big friendly feast in the year 1637. so that's what we tell

ourselves, that's the friendly history of

Thanksgiving. but in reality, on that same date, it was actually a massacre. the

slaughter of around 700 Native Americans. the reason that the pilgrims celebrate,

is because after they kill this huge number of Indians, they had a big feast.

they ate a lot of food and now we celebrate that. a dark history, right?

anyways it's a happy holiday! so when do we celebrate it? the last Thursday of

November, every year! and so what exactly is it today? it's the most important

holiday for visiting family. now, it's not the most important holiday. Christmas is

the most popular and celebrated holiday. Thanksgiving is just the most important

for visiting your relatives, seeing your family and friends. so what do we do? well

we eat, we talk and we argue. the arguing is more of a joke, but let me explain!

first we eat. It's most common on Thanksgiving to have a Thanksgiving

dinner, although some people do have a Thanksgiving lunch. the three most

important foods: turkey, anything with cranberries, and pumpkin pie, or really

any type of pie. and because all of the family is there, gathered around the

table eating this big feast, there's a lot of conversation. it's a good time to

catch up with family and friends. to find out what people have been doing. but

because you're catching up, especially with a lot of your distant relatives,

people you don't know very well, it's a good opportunity for debate and argument.

that's why we always are very careful, we tread lightly, when it's time for the

Thanksgiving dinner. you zip your mouth shut, and just eat! so

those are the most important characteristics of Thanksgiving. if you

have any other questions, put them in the comments!

Trump Raises Fears About Nukes, But US Anti-War Movement Is Lacking - Duration: 10:36.

EDDIE CONWAY: Welcome to The Real News.

I'm Eddie Conway, coming to you from Baltimore.

Ever since Donald Trump was elected as president, there has been concerns in the United States

of America, as well as in the world, about his erratic behavior leading to the use of

nuclear weapons.

Recently, he traveled to China and Asia.

He was exchanged insults with the President of North Korea, and that concern has only

been heightened about the use of nuclear weapons.

So, in Congress, there's an effort now to put some kinda control on him.

Joining me today to explain what's going on is Glen Ford, the executive editor of Black

Agenda Report.

Glen, thanks for joining me.

GLEN FORD: Thanks for having me.

EDDIE CONWAY: Can you explain what's going on in Congress, how they're trying to control

Trump's behavior?

GLEN FORD: Oh, I don't think they can explain themselves.

It might sound strange to some folk's ears, but you could say that Donald Trump has made

a significant contribution to the cause of world peace simply by scaring the hell out

of a lot of people.

Or you might alternatively conclude that the Democrats have scared themselves into finally

taking a stand on the perils of nuclear war, and that's 72 years after the United States

incinerated the two Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

During all that time, or most of that time, the Soviet Union, the main competitor with

the United States, had a policy of no first strike.

They only renounced that policy after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the US moved

its nuclear weapons right up to the border with Russia.

In recent years, Russia has gone back somewhat towards that no strike position, but not the

United States.

But now we have the advent of President Trump, or we also have the advent of the Democratic

campaign to make President Trump seem like the most dangerous human being who has ever

lived, and some of the Republicans seem to agree.

So, at long last, finally, the US first strike policy is finally on the table for discussion.

Nobody was talking about it for all of my life and for yours, Eddie.

Now there's a Senator, Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, and the Congressman from California,

Ted Lieu, they've introduced bills that would require that the Congress declare war before

the US could use a nuclear weapon.

Another congressman from the State of Washington has a bill that simply says that the US should

not be the first to use a nuclear weapon.

Donald Trump himself said once that the United States should not do a first strike and that

he as president would not do a first strike because, in his words, "Once the nuclear alternative

happens, it's all over."

But then a couple of months later, Donald Trump said that everything is on the table

and that would include a nuclear first strike.

I think one of the biggest questions that's raised now that a nuclear first strike is

finally on the table is, if you're gonna talk about Donald Trump, what about Hillary Clinton?

Many folks think that she is a very dangerous, warmongering person who people should also

be concerned about in terms of having a nuclear weapons.

So, I did a Google search to see what Hillary Clinton had to say about the US and a first

strike.

I could not find any mention anywhere of Hillary Clinton taking a position for or against US

first strike.

I can only conclude that that's because no one in the corporate media has ever asked

her about a US first strike.

And that's because US nuclear policy has basically been off limits, as far as the corporate media

is concerned, for all of these years that the United States has held the future of the

Earth in its hands and the hands of whoever is president.

So, it took the arrival of Donald Trump and the Democratic campaign to declare him the

most dangerous man in the world for the United States to finally talk about what it does

with its nuclear weapons.

EDDIE CONWAY: Well, let me just take a step back for a minute because these bills that's

being put in the Congress now are suggesting that nuclear weapons can only be used if Congress

declares a war.

But it seems to me that the United States haven't declared, or Congress haven't declared

war on anybody since 1942.

After that, there's been the Korean War, an undeclared war.

There's been Vietnam, undeclared war.

There's been Grenada, undeclared war.

There's been Afghanistan, Iraq, blah, blah, blah.

So, what difference does it make?

I mean, they go to war without a declaration of war anyway.

GLEN FORD: Yeah.

Well, the difference would be that it would hopefully gum up the works and provide us

with a few extra minutes for somebody to decide, no.

But you're right, of course.

After the passage of any kind of bill that would allow Congress to be the party that

declares war or not, I'm sure that the next piece of legislation that would come out of

the Congress would be a bill that would throw the ball right back to the executive branch

so that they wouldn't have to deal with it.

EDDIE CONWAY: Okay.

I noticed that Obama had flirted with the idea of reducing nuclear weapons and inferring

that his position was maybe not to use a first strike policy.

But then I see he spent nearly $1 trillion to build the nuclear armory.

GLEN FORD: Yeah.

Barack Obama said a lot of things.

He's very calculating in that way.

He said all these words that would lead people to think that he's considering some kind of

more peaceful type of policy.

But then what he sends to the Congress is, as you mentioned, a request for $1 trillion,

over the next 20 years I believe, to upgrade the US nuclear arsenal.

That upgrade coming from the Obama White House is what the Trump administration keeps getting

blamed for in the corporate media.

It seems people don't remember that that was what was in fact requested by the Obama administration.

And yeah, if you are requesting trillions of dollars to upgrade your nuclear weapons

to make them more efficient and reliable, you can't expect the other side not to believe

that you're looking at a first strike capability.

EDDIE CONWAY: Is there anything people in the United States of America can do to help

this effort in Congress?

GLEN FORD: Well, yeah.

There's lots of things that people could do.

We don't have much of an anti-war movement, however, to carry out the strenuous tasks

that are involved in contacting all of your representatives and every opinion-molder that

you can think of in order to get the chorus of folks, of human beings saying, "We wanna

live not die by nuclear fire," get that chorus to singing.

But the United States does not have much of an anti-war movement, never did.

Under Democratic administrations, whatever we, even the vestiges of that movement tend

to atrophy and die, waiting on a Republican to come into office.

Well, now they've got this Republican that they say is more warlike than the Democrats,

and yet we still don't have much of an anti-war apparatus.

You know, I think that the country's problem is not lack of information.

It's not that Americans are less intelligent than other people.

It is that the US imperial system is accepted by most Americans without them really thinking

about the nature of that system, and that the US First Strike Position was not questioned

because Americans were told that the United States is a good and kind and indispensable

country that would never do a first strike on another nation unless it was absolutely

justified despite the fact that the United States is the only country that has in fact

used nuclear weapons against other human beings.

EDDIE CONWAY: Okay.

Well, we'll keep our eye on this as it goes through Congress and we'll revisit this.

Thank you for joining me, Glen.

GLEN FORD: Thank you.

EDDIE CONWAY: And thank you for joining The Real News.

U.S. announces new sanctions on North Korea and Chinese entities - Duration: 1:46.

The United States has imposed additional sanctions on North Korea... as well as Chinese firms

with suspected business ties with the regime.

This comes... just a day after naming North Korea a state sponsor of terror.
