13th century illustration shows Australia wasn't 'dark continent' - Duration: 3:49.

A 13th century illustration of an Australasian cockatoo debunks the myth Australia was "a dark continent" and reveals trade routes around the country's north were flourishing as far back as medieval times, a study shows

Researchers found the illustration in a manuscript that was either written by or belonged to Roman Emperor Frederick II

It is the oldest-known European illustration of the bird, found in a book dating from between 1241 and 1248, and pre-dating other European illustrations of cockatoos by 250 years

The manuscript includes 900 drawings of falcons, falconers and other animals kept by the emperor

Four of the images are of a white cockatoo — a gift from the Sultan of Babylon to Frederick II

Heather Dalton from the University of Melbourne, who contributed to the research published in the journal , said the find challenged "the British view" Australia was "a dark continent"

"The significant thing is that this parrot provides a window to a world of quite busy trade to Australia's north," she said

"The discovery of these images … highlight the fact that during the medieval period, merchants plying the waters just to the north of Australia were part of a flourishing trade network that reached west to the Middle East and beyond

" Dr Dalton said while many scholars were aware the Sultan had given a "white parrot" to Frederick II, few were aware there were surviving images of the bird

The research team looked at the details, such as the shape of the crest and the colouring of the cockatoo, and concluded it was likely a female — either a triton, sulphur-crested cockatoo or yellow-crested cockatoo

Cockatoos travel well with people, being gregarious and long-lived, making a perfect gift, Dr Dalton wrote

"In captivity, they can have lifespans of up to 80 years and Australian greater sulphur-crested cockatoos have been known to live up to 120 years," she said

"The journey along trade routes would have taken years, and their chances of surviving would have been much higher than the majority of animals

Designing Elder Scrolls' Dark Brotherhood (Oblivion / Skyrim) - Noclip Short - Duration: 7:06.

(sound of typing and film reel running)

(dramatic orchestral music)

- So I had been working at Ion Austin on the Thief series,

which I followed from Looking Glass.

And I had been talking with Todd Howard

and he was telling me about,

this is, you know, Morrowind had come out,

and he was sort of hinting at what Oblivion could be.

I think he sent me an email once that was like,

"Wait for it..."

And that was the whole email.

The next email was like a day later,

and it was like, "Procedurally generated forests."

(interviewer laughs)

It was like, tell me more.

So it was like, he was putting the hooks in.

I usually have a weird, sort of blueprint in my head

for something I want to do.

Like when I was working on the Thief games,

there was a rooftop quest

and people would never know this

but the inspiration for that

was mapping in the originally Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6

PC game, there was a rooftop map.

I was like, this is really cool.

If I did my version of this, it would be like this.

And so the story in Dark Brotherwood

is really like Bourne Identity.

You're an assassin, you know,

and you don't know who you're fighting

and doing these little twists.

The experience of working on Oblivion

as a quest designer was really interesting

because you had a quest designer,

back then it was just a designer,

who was assigned to do a quest line.

And we did not have the system of checks and balances

that we have now so I was left to my devices

for way too longer, way longer than I should have.

And it was the same of all the quests,

the Fighters Guild, the Mages Guild, the Thieves Guild.

So I'm in my little zone, just working

on the Dark Brotherhood and I looked

at the Dark Brotherhood fiction and stuff from Morrowind

and I was like, it doesn't really fit what I want to do,

I want to change the lore.

I ask Todd, I'm like, hey can I make changes?

He was like, ah, go ahead, go nuts.

I'm like, okay, great!

(sound of sword clanging and yells)

- [Fighter] Won't you die?!

- Like, what do I do, how do I draw upon

what I know about, 'cause you know,

write what you know is a big thing

and I don't know much about being a medieval assassin.

But I was raised Catholic

and so the entire structure of the storyline

and the lore in the Dark Brotherhood and Oblivion

is really a twisted, sort of bastardization

of Catholicism. - [Interviewer] Right.

- This is God.

There's the Night Mother is Mary.

So it was really easy for me to just,

let's take this, make it evil,

and like turn those dials and flip those switches

and it just all fell into place.

And that probably says more about Catholicism than me,

but I don't know.

- The funny thing about the Dark Brotherhood,

it is really, unlike a lot of trends

in assassin games, there's not a lot of moral ambiguity,

actually, you're a murderer and you get paid for it.

So how do I make that acceptable?

So a lot of the times, the people you're killing,

they deserve it, you know what I mean,

it's sort of the Dexter thing where they're scumbags.

But a lot of times, there was this term we used,

deliciously evil:

you just have to have this really dark sense of humor

about it so when you're sent to kill someone,

you just find the dark humor in that.

You have to lighten it up in parts

and not make it too dark,

because then you dwell on, really,

I'm a horrible murdering person.

- That was part of it,

like let's make it like a family of rejects.

There's the vampire guy over here,

there's the cat who hates you,

then at the very end of the game,

he decides he's been wrong and he likes you.

And then you come back and he's been horribly murdered.

Little twists like that, you know.

(sound of footsteps)

- I remember, I think it was my single worst day

out here, it was during Oblivion.

I remember, it was working on the Dark Brotherhood

and it was Christmas Eve.

In the Dark Brotherhood, Lucien Lachance

is the evil assassin guy who

is your intro into the guild.

And he shows up at your bed, when you sleep.

And that was broken, so broken.

He would show up across the room,

or he would show up and he would be facing

the opposite direction or, oh, god,

it was infuriating, I couldn't get it to work.

And it's Christmas Eve and I'm trying

to get this thing to work.

And it's got to be like 8 or 9 o'clock

and I have two young kids at home

and my wife was waiting for me.

And I was just, I couldn't figure it out.

I couldn't fix it.

And I'm like, I knew if I didn't fix it,

I'm going on Christmas Break

and I'm gonna obsess over this thing

for like a week and I couldn't get it fixed.

And I remember leaving late Christmas Eve, angry.

Like, oh, I have to go home to my kids, great.

And this Lucien Lachance is broken.

I was so mad and I just wanted to get it to work.

I just remember coming back after the Christmas break,

just like diving right in and finally getting

it all fixed, but boy, that was ugly.

- [Interviewer] Sometimes you need that break.

- What does that tell you?

I think I needed the break at that point.

In Skyrim: The Dark Brotherhood, you get the "We know,"

the note that just says "we know."

And I came up with that and I'm like, I like this.

And then I start, any game developer knows this,

when you start to really think about something,

when you start to overthink it,

and I went to Todd, I'm like,

this "we know" thing is too vague.

No one's gonna know what that means.

They have to write on a note or something.

And he's looking like "you're crazy.

People will get it. Don't change it."

- [Interviewer] This is Todd Howard

who sent you one sentence emails.

So he knows. - Yeah, yeah, exactly, right.

I never quite thought about that, that's exactly right.

And sure enough, he was right.

Like, people get it.

Because in the age of the internet, too,

two seconds later if you don't understand something

or know something, you want to find content,

you can find it.

(quiet orchestral music)

(sound of door opening and rattling chains)

(man begins to scream)

(typing of keyboard)

The Original Cut Story of Dark Souls 2 You Never Knew! (Never-Before-Seen Content) - Duration: 15:53.

You are the Undead Forever without light

Forever without hope And so, you've journeyed to this faraway

land where kingdoms come and die.

Countries buried in water or under the heels of a hero king.

And that king's kingdom?

Crumbled to dust by invaders.

The land now's just a hollow ruin, infested with demons and creatures much like you.

At the center of the rubble, you find a woman in emerald hood wistfully staring off as she's

done for far too long.

The poor girl.

She thinks you're someone she knew, someone precious, someone doomed much like you.

Further out, there's a scholar lamenting his broken toy.

A construct that could reach past space and time?

Curious.

Why not visit such a world?

Through the forests and mountains, through the waters and caves, you find what you seek,

and travel back through the fissures of time.

To a quaint little town with travelers much like you.

A merchant promotes his wares, a child in tow.

To him, she's a tool for trade.

To you, just a kid playing with feathers.

Has she no one in the world for her?

Is she too set on a fruitless journey?

Spare her your fate.

The sweet child promises to await your return.

No matter how long it takes, no matter what may happen, she'll be here, only for you.

Hello everyone this is Sanadsk and I hope you guys enjoyed this little intro I have

made.

I wanted to make the video special since Dark Souls 2 has alot of unused content from its

development, and for this specific video, I am going to showing you guys the original

draft of Dark Souls 2's story, as the game had alot of troubles during development, so

alot of stuff changed in the game, and specifically the story which is basically an entirely different

story.

I will also be explaining some of the stuff I showed in the Intro as I go in with the

video.

So first I have to give thanks to Lokey for translating all of the dialogues in this video

from Japanese, as well as writing the script for the intro video.

I have spent more than 2 weeks non-stop working on the footage and voice and stuff so it would

be very much appreciated if you guys give this video a thumbs up!

So without further ado, let us talk about the original story of Dark Souls 2 that you

never knew!

So first things first, I will be having all of the dialogues in a link in the description

if you want to read them later, but in this video I am going to be focusing on the main

plot points we have in terms of the characters and the world because there is alot of them

and just reading them wouldn't be helpful really.

So these dialogues are all linked together to a different time in the development of

Dark Souls 2, most likely before they changed the directors and all of that.

So the main area that has all of the dialogues is Majula.

Now the Majula back then wasn't exactly the Majula that we got in the final game.

As you saw from the Intro, It was supposed to be a Nexus-like hub area with stairs and

everything, and it seems like it was a much bigger area since there is actually a complete

area outside.

Now we encounter the Emerald Herald or Shanallote that we all know and love, but she has some

extra dialogue.

She says the usual bearer.seek.seek.lest intro but she also tells you that she recognizes

you, and tries to remind you of her by looking at her face and showing you a feather.

Now the explanation for this is Time Travel which was the main objective of our whole

journey in Dark Souls 2 and the core of the story itself.

This leads us to the next NPC, which is ironically called Vendrick.

Now just so you know, the "King Vendrick" that we have in our current Dark Souls 2,

isn't called Vendrick in the Japanese, but Vanclad.

It is the same case with Aldia as he is called Andeal.

So for the sake of not misunderstanding everything, I will be calling the cut NPC the Scholar,

and Vanclad will be King Vendrick as we already know.

Just so we don't mess stuff up.

Now luckily for us, and I quote the scholar: "I'm Velderrick.

The human possessing the greatest intellect in this country."

He reminds me a bit of Mimir when he says this.

So this guy talks about everything that we need to know.

He has long lines of dialogue, but I will be telling you the the main story he talks

about.

This scholar has been researching a device called the "Pendulum of Time" which is

a device that can be used to travel through space and time.

Frankly, the original website of Dark Souls 2 actually has a picture of this pendulum

and as you can see, it looks like a globe or the Earth itself, which is quite interesting

regarding its use.

And in the intro, the guy that I showed is the unused Scholar from Bloodborne, as I wanted

a scholar model and I found this guy perfect for the shot.

And the area around him is actually one of the unused levels in Majula.

Now this scholar talks about two main things you need to find to make the Pendulum work,

which are the "Dragon's Jewel" and the "Drop of Time".

By finding them and using them with the Pendulum, a person can travel back in time, and as he

says, he can even call on his Majesty.

He keeps talking about people not believing him and stuff, but he says that there is a

room in the Royal Castle where he researched the Pendulum, and the Pendulum itself is in

that room too.

He tells us about the nature of the items we need to find.

The "Dragon's Jewel" is, and I quote: "Do you know the legend of the rare gem

that dwells within the womb of a dragon that's lived from time immemorial?

Apparently, it's related to the soul the "dragon of antiquity" births…

That's why if I pursue the soul-starved demons, I think I can find the jewel."

It's hard to know exactly what he means by this, but seems like dragons had a much

bigger role in the story, and later on there is also a big mention for dragons.

As for the "Drop of Time" he says:

"There's an interesting legend in a certain old village.

A miner who dug deeper underground discovered an inexhaustible spring inside of a cave.

And then, it's said one sip of that water, and the next moment the miner was above ground…

Knowing this story, it occurred to me.

"Isn't that a "hole in space and time" for sure"…

The village was destroyed by the demons and I don't know where that cave is.

But, the spring should be resting underground there even now."

Now it could be possible that this was the original role of the hole that we have in

Majula now, as the developers said that the Hole was in a completely different place and

served a different purpose.

So after journeying around and finding those artifacts, and you use them, and as he says,

you move the Pendulum and possibly use it to travel back in time.

Sadly, the NPC tells you that he will go to the castle to confirm, but we don't have

the dialogues of the Castle sadly, so we don't know what happens to him.

Now this is a huge bulk of the story, but there is another NPC in Majula which tells

us even more new stuff, which is Shaliquor the Cat.

She has completely different dialogues, and we can't talk to her normally without using

a special ring, and the concept was actually used with Manscorpion Tark and ironically,

you buy the ring from her, which is called the Ring of Whispers.

Anyways, she talks about alot of interesting stuff, like her living in the Royal Castle,

the war with the Giants and talking a little bit too about the device used to travel through

time and space.

But the thing that caught my attention was this piece of dialogue:

"The forest stretches around the castle but it looks pretty different now compared

to long ago.

The roots of the trees weren't as spread out as they are now and the old ruins weren't

buried.

The "ancient forest" is so eerie.

Because the "god-tree branches" inside of the forest connect to demon heads.

For that reason… the whole forest had transformed into demons.

Right now, it's obstructed by trees and you can't go inside of the forest"

Now she is talking about the forest that surrounds the Royal Castle, which seems to be the Shaded

Woods.

What is interesting is the demon trees that she talks about, which seem to fit the description

of the trees we find in the Shaded Woods that have faces on them.

So it's very interesting to know what they are, or supposed to be.

She also has some very interesting dialogues about some of the areas and characters, and

we can link these dialogues with some of the stuff we have in the game right now.

So I will be reading the dialogues but in an edited fashion because she repeats some

stuff:

"Do you know of the race called immortals?

They prefer the darkness so they made their castle in a place where the sun doesn't

reach.

As a result, it's flooded with rain water or subterranean water...

And now it's sunk to the bottom in deep water.

There seems to be a route made in order to connect the country to the outside world,

"Souldrift Cave".

Lots of souls flow into its vicinity.

The "Undead Citadel" that sank to the bottom of cold water…

The immortal tribe that dwells there are undead beings the same as you.

That's why death is irrelevant, but all the same it seems like they can't move within

deep water."

Now it is very clear that the Undead Citadel is actually the Undead Crypt and actually

in the code, it is called Immortal Castle.

There is also alot of geometry like a throne room in the files of the Undead Crypt which

reinforces this idea even further.

She even mentions the "Souldrift Cave", or it can also be translated as "The Dreg

Heap of Souls" as mentioned by JSF that it uses the same Romanji writing as the Dreg

Heap for Dark Souls 3.

So it seems like it is talking about the Shrine of Amana and from the theme, you can tell

that it fits the theme for being a place where souls flow into its vicinity.

This also links up with the next dialogue:

" There's a village beneath the royal castle where a petite race dwells, and it

appears they were made an outlet to drain the sewage for the people of the castle.

But that race… the "Gyrm"… or whatever they were called, they smelled awful.

The king plugged up the entrance to the village.

The Gyrm...They apparently made a passage to the "Undead Citadel" in secret from

the king.

The gyrm are an honest and very industrious race but it seems like it'd be difficult

for humans to do, since they're selfish."

Now if we see the entrance of the Shrine of Amana, it does seem like it was actually "forcefully"

dug up you can say as you can see a hole being made in the wall that leads to the road.

It's a very interesting story really, as the Gyrm didn't have a big role per say

in the story, and it would've been cool to see what they had in mind for them, and

they talk about them in the Design Works interview as: "Manual labourers employed by the king

to work on the underground waterways below the castle."

One last thing about her dialogues.

"There's a "dragon egg fossil" enshrined by humans in the "egg ritual place" that's

inside of the forest.

It's the only proof showing the dragon(s) of antiquity seldom seen now aren't legend.

I heard from the Queen's lady attendant that the Queen tried hatching the "dragon

egg" at that place."

Now this might be the early story for Aldia's keep since it has dragons and stuff, but it

is hard to know exactly what it is.

Also it is noteworthy to say that Aldia's Keep was originally named the Dragon Research

Facility

So much dialogue from a cat, but let us move on from her now.

So that is it for the main Majula area, and it is time to use the Pendulum to go back

to the past.

Now this part here has alot of development issues, as we have alot of different map pieces

and settings and everything that we can't really discern exactly what it is, but from

the analysis that I have been doing by linking models, dialogues and story bits, it seems

to be a snowy area with different structures.

There is also something I need to point out, is that far away in the distance in Majula,

you see this weird looking building which looks like a snowy kind of area.

IllusoryWall, which was the guy who found some of the unused structures way back, theorized

that it is the Undead Crypt, but from the files I have been seeing, seems like this

is actually what the hub area, or the past area that we were supposed to go to, as the

setting matches perfectly and the building structures also match perfectly with what

we are seeing.

It seems like they decided to just throw it in the background as an easter egg or something.

In the intro, I used mods and video editing to transform Majula into a snowy area, just

to show the context of what I am talking about, and it honestly looks wonderful in my opinion.

And

as you already know, this is where we meet the Child version of the Emerald Herald.

There is alot of dialogue for her and oh my god, she is the cutest person in the world.

Like just reading her dialogues really shows the child nature in her and it's just so

adorable.

I wish that we could've had someone voice acting her lines because she would've been

a lovely NPC to have in the game.

So this is what actually causes the Emerald Herald to know you in the future, because

you already met her when she was a child, and it caused a little bit of a paradox here.

So one of the interesting things she talks about is the Feather, which is called Estintia's

Feather.

She seems to be collecting these as they are special, and she gives you one in the process.

And from the description of the Aged Feather,

"She imagined a world of boundless possibilities from the mere sight

of a feather."

Now another NPC which is linked to her and in the same area, which seems to be a merchant

of sorts, an arrogant one to be exact.

He seems to use the child to get money from people or something, as he calls her his "tool

of trade".

Nothing really interesting about him, but it seems like in the end, you buy her or free

her from him and then he leaves the area.

So in terms of the story, this is all we have about it, but it is so much information, and

I am glad I was able to showcase all of these stuff to you.

There

is still alot of stuff in Dark Souls 2 in terms of unused cutscenes that I still haven't

got enough time to work on, but make sure to subscribe because there is still alot of

content coming up very soon!

I also showcased the original draft of the Iron Keep which is very interesting so make

sure to check it out!

In Dark Souls: Remastered..the flow of time is convoluted - with heroes centuries old phasing in and out.

But use this, to summon one another as spirits, cross the gaps between the worlds, and engage in jolly co-operation!

This is the White Summon Soapstone.

Use it in a high traffic area, like at a bonfire or outside a bosses arena.. and it'll appear in someone else's world.

Once summoned through your sign, it's your job to assist the host with the boss of this zone.

Stay alive until the boss is dead, and you'll gain a ton of souls, humanity - and possibly other rewards, if you're a part of certain covenants.

Covenants are multiplayer factions you align yourself with, and can be switched at the bonfire.

As a new player, consider becoming a Warrior of the Sun... a member of the Way of White...or a Guardian of the Princess.

These three covenants enhance your ability to team up with other players.

Of course, you can summon help to your world as well - just crush a humanity, reverse your hollowing at the bonfire, and look for summoning signs.

If you want to exclusively match with friends, make sure you all have the same password set in the network menu.

But beware - if you're human you're also open to invasion.. and the chances of invasion intensify if you're a part of a group.

To experience what it's like to invade others, head below Firelink to pick up a handy 5 Cracked Red Eye Orbs.

From there, choose your location, crush an orb, find your target, and claim their humanity.

GLOW IN THE DARK SLIME - How to make - Duration: 3:05.

Hi friends, this is Anna Chi with you and today I'm gonna show you how to make a slime that will glow in the dark.

For the slime we gonna need clear glue

borax or Sodium Tetra borate

water and a glow powder which I ordered on the website Ali-Express.

First, squeeze out 200 ml of clear glue and add 100 ml of water

Stir it up a little and do it one more time so that we get a bigger slime.

Now let's make the borax solution

Pour a small spoonful of borax and add 800 ml of hot water. Stir it so that the borax completely dissolves and wait until it cools down

But while the solution cools, I'll show you the liquid glass slime which we made couple of weeks ago

It's been there in an air-tight container since then and it became absolutely transparent.

If you haven't watched that video yet and don't know how to make such slime then be sure to check out that video in my channel

The solution has already cooled down, now we need to pour the water and glue mixture into this solution. We'll keep stirring until it forms the slime and repeat it one more time

And here it is! We get a large, transparent slime that stretches really well.

Now we need to divide it into 5 equal parts and add the glow powder to each part.

Mix it well so that all the slimes are well-colored and it's ready.

We got 5 bright and beautiful slimes in yellow, green, blue, white and coral color.

Alright, now let's see how they glow in the dark.

It's quite unexpected for me that the white slime glows as bright blue

and the yellow and green slime glows the same

Guys, if you liked this video, please give it thumbs up and also don't forget to subscribe to my channel.

That's all for today! Thanks for watching. Till next time, bye!

|| Hollywood Movie Ven helsing Movie cast || American Dark Fantasy Action Film || - Duration: 2:16.

Van Helsing is a 2004 American dark fantasy action film written and directed by Stephen Sommers.

It stars Hugh Jackman as vigilante monster hunter Van Helsing, and Kate Beckinsale as Anna Valerious.

The film is an homage and tribute to the Universal Horror Monster films from the 1930s and '40s

(also produced by Universal Studios which were in turn based on novels by Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley), of which Sommers is a fan.

The eponymous character was inspired by the Dutch vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing from Irish author Bram Stoker's novel Dracula.

Distributed by Universal Pictures, the film includes a number of monsters such as Count Dracula, Frankenstein's monster

and werewolves in a way similar to the multi-monster movies that Universal produced in the 1940s,

such as Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula.

Despite mostly negative reviews, the film grossed over $300 million worldwide.

13th century illustration of cockatoo shows Australia wasn't 'dark continent' - Duration: 3:49.

13th century cockatoo illustration shows Australia wasn't 'dark continent' and trade flourished  A 13th century illustration of an Australasian cockatoo debunks the myth Australia was "a dark continent" and reveals trade routes around the country's north were flourishing as far back as medieval times, a study shows

Heather Dalton from the University of Melbourne, who contributed to the research published in the journal Parergon, said the find challenged "the British view" Australia was "a dark continent"

Paul O'Grady compares Coronation Street to SYRIA as he slams dark storylines - Duration: 3:49.

Paul O'Grady has slammed Coronation Street for its "Tarantino-like" storylines full of "death and destruction

"  He claims that EastEnders is more believable than the ITV soap and even compared the cobbles to war-torn Syria

The legendary presenter told Daily Mirror: "There's too much death and destruction in Corrie

It's gone a bit Tarantino.  "It was about working class life in a little street, but now it's like Syria

The 63-year-old continued: "There used to be these wonderful vignettes in the Rovers – a conversation over nothing

"  Revealing his love for Eastenders, the confessed: "I love Eastenders. Makes me laugh

Never miss it. I love the Carters. I love Jessie Wallace as Kat. Old Mo, she's fabulous

"For me, it's more believable that the other soaps. You see them in Eastenders with a fead full of rollers preparing to open the pub

"  The Blind Date host's comments come after other stars spoke out about the soap's dark storylines, which have recently included Pat Phelan's murderous return, Aidan Connor's suicide and the rape of David Platt

Paul's fellow presenter Michael Parkinson said: "I never imagined I would recoil from watching Coronation Street, but the storyline of the kidnaping and torture of Andy and Vinny and their brutal murder by Pat Phelan had little to do with that gentle, funny reminder of life in the North Country I discovered and so admired in the early 1960s when I join Granada Television

"  Former This Morning host Fern Britton tweeted: "Is it looking for a post watershed slot? Not witnessing the graphic horror/degradation/shame/pain of sexual abuse is worse than seeing it

Unsuitable for pre watershed."
