  The Chevelle, then Chevrolet's midsize car, changed a lot for the 1973 model year, just in time for higher fuel prices and diminished expectations

The 1964-1972 cars remain much more popular among collectors and restorers, and if a rough third-gen Chevelle has the ugly 5-mph crash bumpers? The junkyard will be the next stop unless it gets lucky

Here's a '74 Malibu Classic wagon that I spotted in a San Jose self-service wrecking yard a few months back

  Engine choices ranged from a 145-horsepower 350-cubic-inch V8 to a 235-horse 454

Given that gas prices had just increased almost 50% during the last few months of 1973, few Chevelles came with the big-block

This car has a small-block V8 of some sort; the hood springs were bad, so I wasn't motivated to take a look at casting numbers to determine whether this engine is a 350, a 307, or whatever random swap may have occurred in 1994

  It doesn't have fatal Midwest-style rust, but there are holes where water gathered during California's wet winters

A restoration would have been possible, but few are willing to spend $15,000 to end up with a $4,000 car

Breaking News - Jo Konta crashes out of Nature Valley Classic to Petra Kvitova - Duration: 2:14.

British interest in the Nature Valley Classic ended with Johanna Konta's defeat by Petra Kvitova in the first round in Birmingham

Konta paid the price for her drop in ranking by drawing the defending champion and lost a close contest 6-3, 6-4 after Heather Watson had been beaten 7-6 (7/2), 7-5 by Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko

Konta reached the final in Nottingham at the weekend and looked to use her extra match sharpness on grass against the fourth seed and two-time Wimbledon champion

After losing the first set, Konta was the better player for much of the second but could not take either of two break-point chances at 4-3 and then served two consecutive double faults to drop serve in the following game

Kvitova made no mistake serving it out and Konta must now hope for a better draw in Eastbourne next week, where she reached the semi-finals 12 months ago

It was a similar story for Watson against a player who had never previously won a match on four visits to Edgbaston Priory

Watson won their last meeting on grass at Eastbourne 12 months ago but it was Tsurenko, ranked No 37 to her opponent's No 86, who had the better of the big moments

Heather Watson defeated by Lesia Tsurenko at Nature Valley Classic - Duration: 2:29.

Heather Watson's disappointing season continued with a 7-6 (7/2) 7-5 loss to Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko in the opening round of the Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham

The British No 2 looked to have a good chance against a player who had never previously won a match at Edgbaston Priory but she was edged out in a tight contest

Watson, ranked 86 to her opponent's 37, recovered from a break down in the opening set but was unable to take her momentum into the tie-break, while a single break in the final game settled the match

  It has been a terrible 2018 so far for Watson who lost 10 consecutive matches from the Australian Open all the way through to May across the WTA Tour and Fed Cup matches

The Brit has not won consecutive games since before January's Australian Open.Her world ranking has also suffered since a 2018 high of 68 in January to tumble 18 places

 Wimbledon is less than two weeks away but Watson is severely on the back foot heading into the tournament

She reached the third round at SW19 last year before being dumped out by Victoria Azarenka in three sets

Life Car TV - Old Subaru And Classic Beetle Join Hands In Unholy Matrimony - Duration: 2:10.

Somebody definitely invested a lot of time and effort into making this Subaru-VW hybrid look like one car instead of two

It may be weird, but at least it's not poorly executed, right? Feel free to disagree with that assessment, since both arguments make perfect sense

This car is just as interesting as it is ridiculous, which is why it ended up on reddit's main thread for cars that tend to get mocked/ridiculed

Instead of laughing at it, we'd rather try to find a purpose for it.The first question that comes to mind is which car provided the donor engine? The Subaru GL was front engined, whereas the Beetle stood as its polar opposite

Actually, the more we look at it, the more we suspect the Subaru's engine endured, while the Beetle's power unit stepped aside in favor of extra cargo room

Makes sense.When it was whole, that Subaru still had enough room for a couple of rear-seat passengers

Of course, that would have been nothing compared to now – you can see how far back the rear seats are positioned

Equally interesting is how the car's builder chose to keep the two halves as original as possible

For example, they could have gone with four identical wheels, although that would have definitely made this ride less intriguing, at least visually
