A woman has told how she confronted border patrol agents after they demanded to see her visa documentation while on a bus from California to Nevada

Tiana Smalls said she was riding the Greyhound from Bakesfield to Las Vegas on June 5 to see family when the altercation took place

Smalls recalled on Facebook how she challenged the agents for having no authority to check papers so far from a border, after which they backed off

The incident took place at a border post which used to be used to check for fruit being brought into California because of an invasive species of fly

But on this occasion when the bus stopped, Smalls said the driver announced: 'We are being boarded by Border Patrol

Please be prepared to show your documentation upon request.'Smalls said she stood up and began shouting: 'This is a violation of your Fourth amendment rights

You don't have to show them s***! This is illegal. We are not within 100 miles of an international border so that have no authority to ask you for anything

'You're a parent!' Furious Playboy reporter interrupts White. Share this article Share Not being able to speak Spanish, Smalls said she translated the remark using an app on her phone and tried to reassure Spanish speakers on the bus

When the agents actually boarded, she reiterated: 'I'm not showing you shit! This is harassment and racial profiling! 'Don't show them a gotdamn thing! We are not within 100 miles of a border so they have no legal right or jurisdiction here! Google it!' She claims that, after seeing she was willing to cause a problem, the agents got off the bus and allowed it to continue

According to the ACLU, customs and border officials are legally allowed to operate within a 'reasonable distance' of a US land border

A 1953 federal regulation defined 'reasonable' to be within 100 air miles, rather than land miles, of a border

That would include the California-Nevada border. However, the Fourth Amendment only allows law enforcement officials to enter business areas that are open to the public in the exercise of their duties - going anywhere else requires a warrant or consent

Since Greyhound buses require a ticket to enter, they are not considered to be open to the public, and the agents' legal authority does not extend there

A statement on the ACLU's website says: 'ACLU affiliates in Washington, California, Arizona, Michigan, New York, Vermont, and Florida have reported multiple incidents involving Border Patrol agents boarding Greyhound buses without a warrant or consent, and terrorizing passengers by demanding their papers

'These reports indicate that Border Patrol agents routinely engage in racial and ethnic profiling, singling people out for the color of their skin or accents

'Smalls has been widely praised online for standing up to the agents and defending the passengers who could not speak English

Sophie, International Student in California, Sharing her experience. - Duration: 4:37.

hi my name's Sophia, here i will share some of my exchange experience by living

with my host family in California. So I went to America last summer from July 30 till

august 30th, about one month and I stayed in California for two weeks.

My stay in California was so short but I still had lots of great memories there.

It was my first time living with a host family I got kind of a afraid

but when I arrived in California everything just seems fine.

I remember the weather on that day was so hot and I was waiting in the classroom

with another exchanges students and when I saw my host family

Gaby Trace and Taylor I feel a relief because they look so nice,

and when we got home Trace and Gaby showed us around the house, how to use appliances in kitchen and

bathroom and where we can get towels in the closet and blah blah blah.

And everything just seems like home, oh yeah! The house have rules my

roommates Helen and Emilie and I will to take turns to clean the bathroom during

a week and I think that's an interesting part because I lernt lots and find it's

totally different from what I have done in my home and also helped to do a

chores like do the dishes something like that and i think

That's the interesting part, yeah that's a good part because it helps

us learn a lot from it. And the most unforgettable thing is that it was my

last day in California and my roommate Helen and I asked if we can make dumplins for

them as a second gift, they say yes and that day we got home

it was quite late it was almost half past seven

you know so we got traffic Jim but everybody was waiting for us and we

were so moved at that time. I know everybody was starving but they were

just so patient, and Emelie helped us a lot and when we finally finish all of

the ...... there was almost 9 o'clock. I feel very very sorry.

Lastly I'm gonna talk about my ...... family there was my host family so

the first thing is that it happened they're different culture and teach me

how to get along with people from different cultures, it also a improve how I am ......

speaking, you know before that I've bent there to speak out I just and I was not

very confident about my spoken English so I just I just I don't know how to

speak out, but while i was there with my host family I wanted to speak

I want to talk with them, communicate with them to share what I experienced in one day

and about the funny things and what made me sad, and the second

thing is that living with the host family will let you taste a lot of

the traditional delicious food here, not to mention that Gaby that Trace have the

best cooking that I ever test before, better than my mom.

I still remember the taquito and the pasta yeah very very delicious.

I need to say thank you to Gabby Trace and Taylor for hosting me for two weeks.

Thank you so much, and yeah I know the time is so short but I still got lots of

good memories in there. And I put the time to be exchange students to living with a

host family it helps me a lot teach me a lot and I learned a lot from

me. Thank you so much and Gaby Trace Taylor if you took a chance please come to

China to visit me. I hope to see you in the future.

I will miss you forever. so that's it see you!

Things to Know Before ALA California Girls State - Duration: 7:31.

So Girls State is coming up and you're getting ready, but then you realize you

have absolutely no idea what to expect. Don't worry! Girl, I got you! Hello I'm

Stephanie, the California Girls State Alumnae foundation intern. I went to Girls

State back in 2016 and I remember feeling so stressed out before the session

because I didn't know what was in store and had no idea what to pack. This video

is going to cover some important things to know before American Legion Auxiliary's

California Girls State and hopefully it will help you better prepare for the

exciting week ahead. Let's get right into it!

Girls State consists of so many different events and activities and you'll want to be

dressed appropriately for each one. First off, you want to bring about five to six

days worth of casual clothes for our day-to-day duties. This includes

items such as t-shirts and tank tops. For bottoms, your everyday jeans will work

fine, but you can also opt for shorts or a skirt and if you'd like a cute romper.

Really, it's anything that you feel comfortable in because you will be

moving around a lot. You also want to bring PJ's or clothes you can lounge in

so that when you have free time you can feel comfy and at ease. It's also a

good idea to bring a light jacket or a hoodie or pullover with you in case it

does get cold. However, typically the week of Girls State is pretty warm so just

make sure you check your weather app and plan your outfits accordingly. That said,

keep in mind that ALA Girls State values professionalism, which means

modest is going to be hottest. So girls, try to avoid the super low-cut shirts

and the extra tight crop tops and make sure you watch the length of your shors,

skirts and dresses. If you're ever unsure of whether your bottoms are appropriate

or not, you can always do the fingertip test. What you do is you stand up

straight put your arms by your sides. If the fabric of your bottoms is longer

than your fingertips, you're fine you're good to go. If not, maybe plan on leaving

those at home. Secondly, you'll want to bring two to three nice or more

professional outfits to wear for when we have evening events, notable speakers,

or in case you decide to run for office. Think business casual. This includes

items such as blouses, skirts, nice pants. You could also wear a dress, just make sure you

watch the length, and if you have one and if you think it matches your outfit, a

blazer or a professional jacket to top off the outfit. Thirdly, you'll want to

bring one to two formal outfits for our closing celebration and for when

we take pictures. This includes suits, nice pants, nice shirts, you can also wear

a dress. During Girls State we have a picture day and on that day everyone

wears either a red polo or a blue polo. The color doesn't matter it's just for

pictures, but if you don't have a polo maybe look for just a red shirt or a blue

shirt. Try to keep it as plain as possible.

Don't feel like you have to go out and buy a polo. Also, don't feel like you have

to go out and buy anything really. Just look at what you have and try to work

off of that. But if you do want to go buy a polo, I got mine at Old Navy and it

was under $10. It's a staple item so I'm pretty sure they'll still have it there,

so that's always something you can check out. You're going to be doing a lot of

walking at Girls State, so it's important that your shoes are

comfortable and won't hurt your feet. I suggest bringing three different pairs:

one pair for walking around on a daily basis and just for getting from place

to place. In my case, I wore my converse. If you have running shoes, tennis shoes,

that'll be great. The second pair is one to go with your formal, nicer outfits. If

you have black heels or nude heels, those are really versatile and they'll work

great. If you don't like heels you can also opt for flats. And finally, one pair of

shoes for lounging around the dorms and for showering, and what I did was I

brought lip flops. You will be living in a dorm room with a roommate, which means

space will be limited. My closet literally consisted of one rack and a

few drawers and it was a real struggle. Also, if you plan on hanging your clothes,

I believe they only provide a few hangers so I would suggest you bring

your own. Just take it from me and try to pack light.

Moving on, here are some things that you should bring. The beds at Claremont

McKenna college are twin XL sized, which means they are a little longer than your

average twin sized bed. If you can't find bedding made specifically for twin XL

beds, don't worry about it you can always use full-sized bedding or queen-size

bedding. Those work perfectly as well. You should also bring a pillow and a blanket

because it does tend to get colder at night and most of the dorms are

air-conditioned. If you'd rather bring a sleeping bag and put that over the

mattress, that's okay too. Whatever is more convenient for you. your face wash

your toothbrush your toothpaste your towels shampoo hairdryer anything that

you might need to get ready in the morning or get ready for bed you want to

make sure to bring yourself because you won't be able to find it on campus I

recommend having a little basket to put your stuff in so that you can transport

your items more easily between your room and the bathrooms because the bathrooms

are communal and they are shared by the whole floor a bathrobe is also a good

idea if you have one this is important bring some pads tampons whatever you

might need just in case even if you aren't

technically supposed to get your period I know that they say sinking is a myth

but I got my period during my girls state session and it was two weeks early

I also know other girls in my city got theirs as well so I'm a believer and

it's better to be safe than sorry any and all medication needs to be

checked in to the nurse before the session begins so if you're bringing any

medicine make sure that they are put away and separate from your other stuff

and easily accessible aside from the duffel bag or suitcase you're bringing

you also want to have a smaller bag that you can use to carry around everyday and

just put your items in when I went I had a little backpack and I put my handbook

my notebooks my folders my stationery and anything I might need throughout the

day in it you probably won't use them too much but

feel free to bring your laptop your iPad your camera anything you need

I didn't bring a laptop but I was able to do everything off of my phone and it

worked out fine if you're going to use your phone a lot for writing speeches or

snapchatting make sure to bring a portable charger because you'll

definitely want that there will be times where you get to share things about

yourself with the other girls in your city and you get to learn about them and

get to know them better as well so bring things that you feel represent

you and reflect who you are I'm really into journalism and I almost the

managing editor of my school paper back then so I brought copies limit and I

shared that with everyone there's also a talent show at Girls State and if you're

super good at something and want to bless us and grace us with your amazing

skills bring it it could be an instrument of dancing a form of anything

we'd love to see it there is a girl state store that sells super cute girls

think things like t-shirts and bracelets so if you might be interested in looking

at that and purchasing something definitely bring money either cash or

card works you will be outside at times and it does get really hot so wear

sunscreen wear a hat wear sunglasses have a lot of bottle by you so you can

stay cool and stay hydrated the last thing you need is a nasty sunburn and

ruining your week ultimately you get out of girls state what you put in but

regardless it's an experience that you'll remember forever and the memories

and friendships made lasts a lifetime I hope this video has been helpful and I

hope you have an amazing session at a la California Girls State

A California man has been arrested for DUI after drunkenly riding a horse that trampled over a young boy

Families were lining the streets at the Colusa County Fair, as Armando Martinez Ruiz and other riders were mounted on horses trotting down the road

That's when Ruiz's lost control of his brown horse as it began acting erratically and threw him off

The horse then came charging toward the crowd, trampling an eight-year-old boy and breaking several bones in his leg
