- You can't have economic justice without racial justice.

And you can't tell a story about our economy,

how we've gotten here, who's to blame,

without seeing the way that race has been used

as a weapon to further the interests of the 1%.

No matter where we come from or what our color most of us

work hard for our families.

But today certain politicians and their greedy lobbyists

hurt everyone by handing kick backs to the rich,

defunding our schools,

and threatening our healthcare, medicare,

and social security.

Then they turn around and point the finger for our hard

times at poor people, black people, and new immigrants.

We can't design a 21st century driving economy that

addresses the record levels of economic inequality without

being specifically attuned to what's happening in the

African American community and the Latino community,

in the Asian American and Native American community.

Well multiracial populism says that in fact our fates

are tied up together.

That when we have the kinds of rules that help all families

thrive, that when have the kind of policies and rules that

help immigrants thrive, and African American families

thrive and women thrive that all of us thrive.

We've got to get away from the idea that my success

comes at your expense.

It holds the entire nation back when so many people

are undervalued and underpaid for the contributions

that they make.

When so many communities are disinvested,

when there's so much potential.

We've got to invest with smart policies from universal

childcare to debt free college to big bold investments

in home ownership.

To make sure that everyone has access to the best that

this country has to offer.

No matter what their background.

It's time for a multiracial populist movement in America.

It's time to join together with people from all walks

of life to fight for our future.

Just like we won better wages, safer workplaces,

and civil rights in our past.

We have a choice, are we going to continue to write

the rules so that our economy works for the highest

paid 1%?

Or are we going to make sure that this is really

everyone's economy. (gentle music)
