Evangeline Lilly Says She Was Going Through 'a Pretty Dark Time' During Lost - News Today - Duration: 2:10.

 Evangeline Lilly is known worldwide for her role on J.J. Abrams' fan favorite show Lost

Despite its success and multiple Emmy wins, the British Columbia native didn't have a blast during the making of it

 "I was never enamored by the idea of fame," she tells PEOPLE in this week's issue, admitting she went through "a pretty dark time" coming to terms with being a public figure

 In fact, she planned on retiring from acting after Lost ended in 2010, and for two years enjoyed life off the grid, moving to Hawaii with her partner, Norman Kali, who worked in film production and is now a stay-at-home dad

But when Peter Jackson offered her a role in The Hobbit movie, she couldn't turn it down

World Cup 2018: Colombia overcome dark past of death threats in hope of England triumph - Duration: 6:07.

 Former Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez received death threats on social media after giving away a penalty and being sent off for preventing a goal with his hand less than three minutes into their opening group game against Japan

 When you recall their history, it is little wonder the South Americans took the threats seriously and informed the police

 In 1994 Andres Escobar was murdered outside a Medellin bar 10 days after scoring an own goal against the USA as the highly-rated Colombia squad crashed out at the group stage of a World Cup they were expected to shine in, especially after a stunning 5-0 win over Argentina in Buenos Aires during the qualification campaign

 Sanchez, who spent two years at Villa Park before joining Fiorentina and then Espanyol on loan, was said to be "deeply affected" by the threats

 And he would not have been consoled much by the fact he avoided going into the history books as the fastest dismissal in World Cup history

That dubious honour remains with Uruguay's Jose Alberto Batista, who was sent off after just 54 seconds against Scotland in 1986

 The mood in the Colombia camp was not helped by the fact their 10 men slipped to a 2-1 defeat to the Japanese that left them with it all to do against Poland and Senegal

 They bounced back by beating the Poles 3-0 with star man James Rodriguez – who had missed the first game with a calf strain – coming to the rescue by making two goals

 There were more problems in the third game against the Senegalese when Rodriguez limped off with a recurrence of his injury after only half-an-hour but Colombia scrambled through thanks to Yerry Mina's towering header

 They are not the same team without Rodriguez, who lit up the last World Cup when he won the Golden Boot with six goals – including a spectacular 25-yard volley against Uruguay – to convince Real Madrid to add him to their glittering cast list at the Bernabeu

 Four years ago, four successive wins carried them into the quarter-finals for the first time in their history

There they were beaten by hosts Brazil, but left with their heads held high and Rodriguez tipped to become the next world superstar

 It hasn't quite turned out like that. Rodriguez found his game-time restricted at Real and joined Bayern Munich on loan midway through last season

 But he remains the talisman for 'Los Cafeteros' [the Coffee Growers] with his influence underlined by the fact in just over seven games at two World Cups, he has struck six goals and provided four assists

And at the age of 26, he is already his country's joint third all-time top scorer with 21 goals

 Colombia have failed to reproduce the exciting attacking football they showed in Brazil

Incredibly, they failed to manage a single touch in the penalty area for nearly an hour against Senegal – and only four in the whole 90 minutes

 It would be unfair to label them a one-man team. Radamel Falcao, in loan spells with Manchester United and Chelsea, and Juan Cuadrado, in his brief time at Stamford Bridge, both failed to make an impact in the Premier League but remain dangerous attacking operators and will have a point to prove after their unhappy spells in England

 Cuadrado ran riot against Poland's back three in a game in which Falcao scored his first World Cup goal

But there are question marks whether 'El Tigre's' 32-year-old body will hold out against a pacy, robust and youthful England team

 Apart from Falcao, Cuadrado and ex-Villa man Sanchez, there are three other familiar faces to England fans

 David Opsina might only be Arsenal's No2 keeper but has been No1 for his country for a long time; Tottenham's Davinson Sanchez forms a formidable backbone to the defence along with the towering Mina, while the third man earning his living in England is Brighton striker Jose Izquierdo

 Another player Gareth Southgate's team must keep a close eye on is Juan Fernando Quintero, a gifted but flawed playmaker who has only just returned to the team after a three-year exile

 The good news for fans looking for entertainment is that none of Colombia's 19 previous games at five World Cup finals tournaments has ended goalless

 According to Colombia legend Carlos Valderrama it will be tight and could be decided by a set-piece – three of Colombia's five goals so far and six of England's eight have come from that route

 "It will be very tight," he said. "In fact, it will be so close that a penalty or a free-kick will be the difference; Colombia will have to make their opportunities count

The Mysterious Dark Watchers of California | Mysterious Universe - Duration: 6:13.

 Meandering along the coast of California from Monterey County all the way up into central San Luis Obispo County is the Santa Lucia Mountain Range, a rugged expanse of peaks and wilderness that is imposing enough to have posed a hurdle to early Spanish explorers making their way to the California coast

It is a place of undeniable natural beauty and history, and it has also long been said to be the haunt of inscrutable shadow beings that seem to stand and observe our world from afar

 What have come to be known as the "Dark Watchers" are typically said to be very tall humanoid entities ranging in height from 7 feet tall all the way up to around 15 feet tall, dressed all in black and wearing flowing cloaks and wide brimmed hats, with many sightings also mentioning some sort of staves or sticks in the beings' hands

Facial features are not typically seen, and they are almost always silent, enigmatic figures usually seen at a distance up on ridges silhouetted against the darkening twilight sky, always at around dusk or dawn, quietly looking over and surveying their domain with unknowable purpose and often vanishing in the blink of an eye, especially if one is to try and draw closer

The Santa Lucia Mountains  Such bizarre entities have been reported for centuries, with the accounts supposedly traced back to at least the Native Chumash tribe of the central coast of California and the Channel Islands, who apparently had a rich tradition of lore on these enigmatic beings and called them "The Old Ones

" Early Spanish explorers and Mexican ranchers also knew of them, referring to them as Los Vigilantes Oscuros, and they were often seen by early explorers and soldiers in the region, who described the unsettling experience of being observed by them from cliffs high above

These beings have been sighted ever since, going on to be mentioned in countless literary references and sightings reports

One very well-known literary mention of the mysterious beings was written of in John Steinbeck's 1938 book The Long Valley, in which the creatures were written of in a short story called Flight, particularly in one passage that reads:  This is undeniably based on the pervasive lore of these entities, and other writers at around the same time made mention of the Dark Watchers, including notably poet Robinson Jeffers, in his poem Such Counsels You Gave to Me & Other Poems, in which he calls them "forms that look human… but certainly are not human," and says of them:  These literary accounts draw from the same local traditions, which have gone back centuries and continue on into this day

In the mid 1960s there was an alleged sighting of the Dark Watchers made by a high school teacher, who was out hiking in the range at the Monterrey peninsula

As he walked along he claimed that he had seen a tall dark figure looming up upon a ridge, which seemed to be in the process of merely standing and contemplating the scenery

The hiker called out to the mysterious figure and at that instance the entity simply dissolved from sight as if it had never been there at all

 There have been numerous supposed sightings of these strange entities since, right up into very recent years

One strange occurrence was told of by a witness from Moreno Valley, California, who in 2011 said:  In 2013 there was a report made by a Elizabeth Benitez of San Mateo, California, who claimed to have seen the specters in broad daylight near the San Luis Obispo reservoir

She would say of this encounter:  Also in 2013 was an account from a witness known only as "Brian," from Hollister, California, who claimed to have seen the entities as they were driving home

He would say of the incident:  In 2015 there was a report from a long distance runner calling himself Joey, in Sylmar California

The witness said that he had been out training for a race in the mountains when he saw something peculiar, saying of his experience:  There have been many other reports as well

As recently as 2018 there was a report from a witness from Ojai , California, who was out hiking in the mountains when he came across something very bizarre indeed

He would say:  There are numerous other accounts of seeing these inexplicable shadow beings out in the wilderness silently surveying the land, to the point that, rather interestingly, John Steinbeck's own son Thomas Steinbeck wrote an entire book on the subject after having his own encounter

He would go on to research the lore of the Dark Watchers and pen the book In Search of the Dark Watchers along with co-author Benjamin Brode, which goes into quite a lot of depth into the phenomenon and its cultural origins

Some have pointed to this being a trick of light or illusion, but that somehow seems to be an inadequate explanation for the entirety of this phenomenon

 It seems that this is a phenomenon for which there are no clear answers, and those enigmatic tall beings dressed in dark upon the cliffs and ridges of these mountains at twilight remain a baffling mystery

Are these just illusions or hallucinations? If so, why should they be confined to this one mountain range? There is also the idea that this may be due to the presence of infrasound signals in the area, which can be caused by natural processes such as the wind along the rocks and can have strange effects on the human psyche, but again why should the Dark Watchers legend take root here of all places if that is the case, and why would the reports be so consistent in the appearance and behavior of the entities? Could this be something else? Are these some sort of supernatural or even inter-dimensional entities here on some unknown mission? It is impossible to tell, and the Dark Watchers of California remain a compelling mystery that really captures the imagination

 All 11 members of the Indian family were mysteriously found hanged with their eyes taped shut

 The suicide and murder of three generations of the Bhatia family – including two teenagers and their 77-year-old grandmother – has shaken the Indian capital city of Delhi

 Ten of the relatives, who owned a popular local shop, were found hanging from an iron grill, blindfolded and gagged, in the courtyard of the family's two storey home in the silent colony of Sant Nagar in northern Delhi on Sunday morning

 The body of the eldest family member –Narayana Devi, the grandmother, was found in another room

 In total brothers Bhavnesh Bhatia, 50, and Lalit Bhatia, 45, daughter-in-laws Savita Bhatia, 48 and Teena Bhatia, 42, her daughter Pratibha, 57, grandchildren Priyanka, 33, Nitu, 25, Monu, 23, Dhruv, 15 and Shivam, 15 were all found dead at the house

 IT company employee Priyanka, 33, was engaged to be married next month and was said to be excited about the wedding

 Only the family's pet dog – a black Labrador – was left alive.  When police reached the scene, they found no hint of the house being ransacked and six of the women were still wearing gold jewellery

 Neighbours and relatives said there was no financial or personal crisis troubling the family, and said the Bhatias were very religious and friendly people who would write a religious couplet every morning outside their grocery shop

 But officers said they found handwritten notes during their investigation which hinted at "spiritual or mystical practices" by the family

 The notes spoke of how "the human body is temporary" and one can overcome fear by "covering their eyes and mouth"

 They also discussed the procedure for attaining salvation, descriptions of which appeared similar to the way they ended their lives

 Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar said: "We have found handwritten notes in a diary detailing the procedure of attaining salvation

 "There are mentions of how hands and legs are to be tied and are quite similar to the manner in which the bodies of 10 persons were found

 "They are exhaustive notes and we are studying them.  "The postmortem has been conducted but we are waiting for the reports

 "So far there is no mention of a baba [occult item] in the diary but we are yet to interrogate the relatives

 "We could not talk to them because they are busy with the postmortem."  Narayana Devi had one more son, Dinesh Bhatia, and a daughter, Sujata, who live far away

 The Bhatias lived in the locality for last two decades and ran a grocery shop and plywood business a few steps away from their house

 Every morning, their shop would open by 5am and the alarm was raised on Sunday when the shutters remained closed at 7

30pm.  Neighbour Abhyuday Singh went to check on the family and finding the door open, the man went inside and discovered the bodies

 Another neighbour, Gurcharan Singh also found the shop closed.  Finding it unusual, he went inside the house to check on the family and found the bodies hanging with their mouth muzzled with cloth
