After you choose your doctor in workers compensation you're going to want to follow whatever they
tell you to do.
They may provide restrictions, they may say you may return to work but you can't do
a, b, or c.
Those are things you need to make sure your employer is aware of.
Because if you go back to work and you do things that are outside those restrictions
you could really injure yourself a lot worse than you already are.
Sometimes your employer will say, "Well you can do this, well you can do that...," just
be sure to tell them, "My doctor says this is what I can do."
Once your doctor gives you those restrictions you can either return to work and that light
duty job or if he's taking you out of work entirely you are entitled to income benefits
through your employer.
Unfortunately it's not full benefits, you won't receive 40 hours a week at your regular
rate.
What you do receive is two-thirds of whatever the average is that you are making for the
thirteen weeks before you were injured from the job.
A lot of times people don't want to follow what the doctor says.
They want to get back to work, they know that it's better for them to have a full paycheck
then to get that reduced rate.
The problem with that is that if you go back to work in a job that you are not suited for
you could irreparable damage to your body.
And that's something that most people really need to have for their job.
If you have a shoulder problem, if you have a knee problem, and you do things outside
of your restrictions you could end up damaging your self to the point where you're going
to need surgery you may or may not have needed before that point.
