May I have everyone's attention, please. My name is Luke Skywalker,
and I have heard that the Dark Side has taken over at least one half of Hamilton's campus.

As you probably figured out by now we have two sides here on campus the Light Side and the Dark Side.
It's not really a good versus evil thing. It's just kind of a fun thing. Let's see what everyone thinks.
Hey, can I ask you guys a couple questions quickly? Sure. So where do you live on campus? I live in Milbank. I live in Kirkland.
And would you say that's on the Light Side or the Dark Side? Dark Side! Light Side!
So when you hear the term Light Side vs. Dark Side, what does that mean to you?
Well I'm a Dark Sider so I'm kind of partial to it. Dark Side is just a little more funky.
There's nothing wrong with the Light Side!
Maybe it's just being closer to like more STEM buildings, and the Dark Side is more relaxed, I feel like.
That's what I always get from it.
You kind of look dumb.
So any idea where these names came from?
I heard it was from the architecture of like Kirkland vs. Hamilton,
like brutalist, like dark architecture versus the light, traditional architecture.
I also heard there was a rumor about it being that there was a blackout like an electrical blackout one time on campus,
yeah on this side, and it used to be the other way around.
That's actually a component of why I chose Hamilton like as opposed to other NESCACs or schools like it, is because I
felt like there was sort of a place for everyone and that you can
be a really well-rounded person have a lot of different interests and find people who are like you and then also find people who are
really different from you.
Do you have any idea where these names came from, Light Side and Dark Side?
Nope.
Not sure you have you seen this dude. He wears this giant like black suit
anda black helmet. His name is Darth Vader, and I'm not sure if you know him
but we got into a little bit of a fight before and I'm kind of trying to chase after him, any idea where he would
be on campus?
I'm not sure, you might want to check the Dark Side that might be a good place to start looking.

What Is Dark Matter? - Duration: 4:53.
80 percent of our universe is made up stuff that doesn't emit light or energy, and cant
be directly observed.
This is called dark matter.
Many scientists believe its there, because there are, how to put this, hints that it
exists.
So what is dark matter?
That's exactly what we are going to talk about, right now on life's biggest questions.
Hello and welcome back to LBQ, I'm charlotte dobre.

The visible universe includes planets, stars, moons and galaxies.
But it makes up roughly 5 percent of the total mass of the universe.
The other 95 percent…is stuff we cant see.
Around 75 percent is made up of a force that repels gravity, its called dark energy.
And the remaining 25 percent is what scientists call dark matter.
Though much of the scientific community agrees it exists, scientists have not observed Dark
Matter directly.
Well… not exactly, but I'll get to that later.
Understandably, Its pretty difficult to observe something that doesn't interact with light,
or baryonic matter, or radiation.
So how do scientists know dark matter is there if we haven't been able to detect it?
One word.
Gravity.
Dark Matter has gravity.
Gravity that has an effect on galaxies and clusters of galaxies.
I'll give you an example.
According to our current understanding of physics, the stars on the edge of a spinning
spiral galaxy should be travelling much slower than those that are at the center of the galaxy.
But strangely, the stars at the edge of a spinning galaxy orbit at almost the same speed
as the stars near the galactic center.
This leads scientists to believe that the stars are being affected by some sort of other
gravitational pull that exists in a halo around the galaxy.
The pull is believed to be created by dark matter.
Furthermore, even though dark matter doesn't emit light…it does do some pretty weird
things to light.
Astronomers have observed certain optical illusions in space.
Sometimes light from a galaxy is distorted by some sort of invisible substance.
This phenomenon is known as gravitational lensing.
So if there is an invisible substance that's affecting how we see distant galaxies, and
its gravity is also affecting the speed at which stars orbit around galaxies…what the
heck is it?
Some scientists believe that dark matter is made up of some sort of particle that we don't
yet have an understanding of.
These particles do not interact with light or matter, but they still have a gravitational
pull.
In order to find out what dark matter is, scientists have to look back in time.
And they can look back in time because it takes time for light to reach us.
Recently, while a team of astronomers at Arizona State university were looking for the earliest
stars in our universe using radio signals, they stumbled upon signals made by low mass
particles that dated to 180 million years after the big bang.
The astronomers observed a change in the radio signal coming from ancient hydrogen, which
signified an absorption of ancient light.
Much to their surprise, the radio signals did not behave as expected.
The hydrogen gas was colder than expected, which means that something must have cooled
it down.
And that something is, you guessed it, dark matter.
These signals are the first direct proof that dark matter exists.
According to Professor Barkana who lead the study, dark matter is the key to unlickign
the mystery of what the universe is made of.
Yet it remains one of the biggest mysteries in physics.
This study would suggest that dark matter might actually interact with regular matter,
and would change our current understanding of dark matter.
But of course other scientists must be able to reproduce this new evidence.
In order to do so, measurements need to be recorded by other independent groups, which
shouldn't take too long.
Professor barkana claims that dark matter could be detected with a large array of radio
antennas.
The biggest radio telescope in the world, SKA, is currently under construction.
The study was published in the scientific journal Nature.
And its not just dark matter scientists are confused, and compelled by.
Back in the 1990's scientists were completely blown away by the discovery of dark energy.
Before its discovery, physicists hypothesized that gravity slows down the expansion of the
universe.
But that is actually not the case.
2 independent teams measured the rate that the universe was expanding and they both discovered
that the expansion of the universe is not slowing down, its actually speeding up.
Space time is actually being stretched apart.
But perhaps the question, what is dark energy is a topic for another episode of lifes biggest
questions.

TVNZ sending sports coverage back to the dark ages
OPINION: Watching TVNZs coverage of the Commonwealth Games has been like taking a step back in time.
For all the criticism that goes Sky TVs way, its been a PR masterpiece from the pay TV network not to bid for these Gold Coast Games and allow the state broadcaster to pick them up.
Because its given everyone a reminder of how bad TVNZ is at covering sport.
Their gaffe on Monday night when they didnt intend to show Joelle King going for a gold medal in the squash final, highlighted how terrible the coverage has been.
Instead of showing this, we had two African boxers on TVNZ 1.
Is there anyone out there who can remember the name of either fighter, let alone which country they came from?.
There was similar outrage with the bowls, so lessons arent being learnt.
Yes, you can make the argument that theyre being streamed online, but not everyone has, or can afford, decent broadband.
People want to see it on a big screen, families like to gather around the TV for big sporting events, not someones iPhone.
Its also perplexing that theyre not putting the other sports on their AppleTV app, surely this could have been a way to appease some viewers.
The problem for TVNZ is that Sky has set the bar so high with their coverage of big multipart events.
Just think back to the recent Winter Olympics.
To paraphrase Eric Bana in The Castle, curling, 24 hours, a day.
With multiple channels on Sky TV you could watch what you want.
If you felt like settling down to catch some womens 25m pistol qualifying on Tuesday afternoon, then you could when Sky had the Commonwealth Games, under TVNZs model, you cant watch that anywhere. .
TVNZ obviously did a deal to get one channel on Skys platform dedicated to the coverage, but why didnt they get more than one?.
TVNZ were dreadful when they had rights to the ASB Classic before they went to Sky and just look at how much the coverage of the tennis events has improved.
In some countries, like Australia and the UK, they have laws to keep some sporting events on free-to-air TV, perhaps we need the opposite here.
They must be rubbing their hands with glee at Sky as the nation comes together in outrage at the poor job TVNZ is doing.
Given whats happened at the Gold Coast, do we really want TVNZ having the rights to the next Rugby World Cup?.
Can it be trusted not to stick an advert for Mortein Mozzie Zapper just as Beauden Barrett is about to kick the winning conversion in the final?.

hi guys fat pudding here welcome back to my
playthrough on the long dark and you know what with the great mother at the
moment and it's getting a bit frustrating I just want to get this
particular part of the game done and move on get out of this town of Milton
and carry on with the single-player story ok let's get into it
okay guys I've just loaded up the game I've just been
looking at the inventory and we seem to have a house key for a bank oh it's
actually the bank managers house key so but gonna check that out want to have a
look at that sounds here we can find it just a Stanley key nothing major and
I've just been looking also been looking at the trustor currently on five and as
you know we need a hell of a lot more according to this I mean you get fifty
trust by just finding her a Robert Bell so sticks are one let's get let's get
back outside and let's see we can find this this house which way is it
yeah like I said them previously I just want to get out of this town now it's I
think about the place we're much too quite stuck which I don't really want to
be I'm sure you can understand it gets a bit we're not in this what we're doing
is just looking for four waters just to gain our trust and but this being such a
harsh environment it's just so difficult I certainly found this not managers
house we've got a map but it doesn't really say exactly what houses of work
just keep looking
obviously the winds picking up the wind chills gonna be severely increased so
it's just gonna be a house that we kept needs access for the key scent we've
been to this one yeah this has opened door on it so like one that says use key
here for June we'll just keep looking around
we'll also be picking up any of the fuel sources while we're walking and that has
all them do two things at once so objectively

harvest it's another 10 minutes just gotta keep an eye on the time okay we
did find some trousers didn't we I'm currently wearing those they are worth
now these are definitely better so we'll put those on let's just check the stats
again yeah I'm better conditioned as well so simple we'll harvest those as

Shocking Dark (1989) - Movie Review - Duration: 5:24.
Hi, I'm Torstein from Cinema Terror and today I have a Bruno Mattei movie to talk about
that attempts to rip off both Aliens and Terminator at the same time.
This film has actually been released under the titles of Terminator 2, Aliens 2 and Alienators,
although its most known title is Shocking Dark.
This 1989 Italian sci-fi horror movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic Venice.
Yeah, the setup of the world is done that sloppily.
Some scientists are trying to figure out how to fix the world in the basement of a factory
or something like that, when suddenly gooey monsters are coming out to attack them all.
A special force going under the macho name of Megaforce, not to be confused with the
movie of the same name, together with a scientist and a representative from a company calld
Tubular Corporation is sent down to figure out what is going on and save
the day.
Shocking Dark actually has more in common with Aliens than Terminator, even though it
takes place on earth, something I am guessing is done due to the production not having a
big enough budget for an alien planet setting.
I guess our dear beloved director Bruno Mattei credited on this one with his alias Vincent
Dawn, here together with another great guy of Italian b-cinema and screenwriter on this
production, Claudio Fragasso, both had a weekend together where they watched a bunch of James
Cameron movies and figured out that they could do this better and decided to do a mash up
of his movies, Italian style.
Most of Shocking Dark shows this gang of soldiers that we couldn't care less about walking around
in the cellar of this factory, trying their best to do dumb stuff that makes it easy for
this creatures to attack them.
There is a lot of shouting and shooting, but little progress storywise.
When the movie comes to the last thirty minutes however, the alien looking creatures disappears
and we get a reveal that the corporate representative is in fact a killer robot.
Or a terminator if you will.
He then let's our main girl loose due to the factory self-destructing in thirty minutes
and he hunts her down slowly, not to kill her apparantly, but just to let her know how
long time they have left before the building explodes.
Then we get a very weird transition from the factory and suddenly we are in the city of
Venice where the terminator chases the leading woman a bit more before a final showdown.
Shocking Dark is a cheesy and trashy movie, but there are sometimes gold to be found in
a trashcan... or something like that.
95 percent of all the characters are annoying as fuck, the movie looks and feels cheap,
the story makes no sense at all, the direction is terrible, the acting is awful and the dialogue
is hilariously bad.
So you would think that the movie is not worth your time then, right?
Well... if you are into Italian ripoff movies that cross the line from being just bad and
becomes so bad its good due to high entertainment values, then this might not be a movie to
pass up on after all.
If you are not familiar with Mattei and or Fragasso, then let me just give you a quick
rundown of what type of movies they are mostly known for.
Some of Mattei's work includes perhaps the most violent naziploitation movie ever with
Women's Camp 119, the hilariously awesome Hell of the Living Dead and the mid-90's Jaws
ripoff Cruel Jaws, of course also known as Jaws 5: Cruel Jaws.
Fragasso might always be most known due to him being the guy behind the infamous Troll
2, but he also has plenty of other b-movie greatness on his filmography, including Beyond
Darkness, Zombie 4: After Death and Monster Dog, the last suprisingly starring Alice Cooper.
If you are familiar with these titles, you should have an idea of what you can expect
with Shocking Dark.
Knowing who to recommend this movie to is quite easy actually.
If these mentioned movies are able to give you an entertaining time then Shocking Dark
is not a bad choice to check out.
It is a bad movie yeah, but there is enough cheesy stuff in it to make it entertaining,
if you are into this stuff.
I would never recommend Shocking Dark to the average movie goer, but for those who have
a taste for Italian ripoffs, Shocking Dark is at times fun enough to make it worthwhile
to sit through, which is why I am giving Shocking Dark a 2.5 out of 5.
