Breastfeeding - How often do I need to sterilise my breast pump? - Duration: 1:37.

Ok, you don't need to sterilise anything that touches breast milk if

you're dealing with formula yes it does need to be sterilized but if you're

dealing with breast milk it doesn't. However, can I just say that it does

need to be clean. A hot, soapy water wash and air-dried yes is adequate. Yes.

Most mums feel more comfortable sterilising maybe once a day.

That's up to you, but it just takes the pressure off if you know that you

don't have to sterilise. And can I just say if baby's in the neonatal unit or very sick

that does not apply. Yeah different rules. Yeah, different scenario and different

hospitals would have different policies. Although, as a general rule, if baby's

well, healthy, and it's just breast milk you're dealing with, you do not need to sterilise.

I always sterilise mine. I had one of the steam sterilisers plugged in

set on my countertop, I put everything in there, steam it and then

just leave it in there until I was using it. Good tip, do not use an electric breast

pump directly out of the steriliser. It's very warm! They get really warm in there so

don't ever do that one. Yeah. But if you if you do like sterilising and if

you're more comfortable with it then I think generally if they stay in the steriliser

or in the sterilising solution then they're sterile and as soon as you break

that seal in theory they're not sterile anymore are they. No.
