Hey guys!
Welcome to Dark Mode 3.0 "The Storyteller".
So, in this first episode, I'm going to cover what Dark Mode is,
how you can use it to achieve any goal,
and I'm also going to walk you through how I do Dark Mode.
Now, before I begin, I have compiled the entire Dark Mode system into a downloadable PDF.
You can find a link for that in the description for this video.
The guide literally covers everything,
and again, it's completely free, obviously.
I don't make any money from this channel.
What is Dark Mode?
Dark Mode is a growth strategy where you focus 100% of your energy on a specific goal or set of goals
by creating rules that you can under no circumstance break until you've accomplished your goals.
So we call it Dark Mode because you cannot do anything during this time that is not directly facilitating the realization of those goals.
So, in most cases, that means no going out,
no social media,
no television,
no unnecessary communication.
Now, the reason that I'm titling this Dark Mode "Dark Mode 3.0 "The Storyteller""
is because of the heavy story focus.
So, in my personal life,
I'm in a bit of a dark place and this is kind of by design,
and I'll explain this as we move through the episodes.
My teacher likes to say that every seven years, as humans, we go through a massive change;
and it's been about eight years since my epiphany moment,
and I feel like I'm right at the beginning of another massive transformation.
A lot of the stories that have helped me to get to where I am now
are either no longer serving me or they're actually starting to hurt me.
And so, it's time for me to write a new story and that's why I'm titling it "The Storyteller"
Okay, number one: Rules,
and let's start with how to set your own rules.
So, if you guys are like me, you probably set goals for yourself hundreds, thousands of times that you've failed at.
And usually when we fail at goals, we just we try harder,
and trying harder tends to not work.
So, instead what you should do when you're setting rules for Dark Mode
is you should try to focus, try to take some time and observe the things that you feel are
preventing you from realizing your goals, truly preventing you,
and then sets those as rules so that you can create.
And this is the beauty of Dark Mode:
you're creating optimal conditions for the realization of those goals.
And here are some examples:
So, if you're spending too much time on Instagram or Facebook
don't just set a rule of "No Instagram" or "No Facebook",
and instead, just remove them from your devices, or even deactivate your accounts until Dark Mode is over.
If you're having a hard time developing a gym habit,
don't just set a rule of, you know, go to the gym every day.
Instead, you should set a rule that you aren't allowed to eat until you've gone to the gym,
or that you must go to the gym and at least lift one weight,
you know, where usually you're going to end up lifting more than one weight,
but the idea is just to set rules that are realistic and,
again, create the optimal conditions for realizing your goals.
Example 3:
If you have trouble with procrastination
try to identify all the different ways that you procrastinate,
and then you can set rules to eliminate those things at the root.
So, some people procrastinate with motivational videos,
some people procrastinate with books,
which is much more insidious since the books give the illusion of learning
when the reality is that you're going to forget 99% of what you don't apply.
Anyway, I'm going off track here, but
if you're procrastinating, try to set rules that just eliminate the sources of procrastination
instead of just saying "I'm going to stop procrastinating".
Again, to set rules, you're going to have to do some personal inventory.
And one of the cool things is that as you grow and move through various Dark Modes,
If you keep your eyes open, you will identify an entire world of habits and beliefs that are limiting you.
And I hope to be able to help you guys uncover some of these through my videos.
Alright, so let's go into my rules.
No Facebook.
I can only use Instagram if I'm on the Stairmaster at the gym
or towards the end of the day to post something reflective.
I can only watch YouTube during meals.
No going out without an objective.
No television.
No unnecessary communication.
And I also have to leave the house once a day.
Now, those are my rules.
Your rules are going to be different.
One big recommendation that I'm going to make:
I highly recommend that you set "No social media" as a as a rule for your Dark Mode.
So, that means deactivating your accounts :
your Facebook, your Instagram,
even in some cases, YouTube.
Now, me personally, I'm at a point in my life where I've already been pretty isolated for the last eight years.
I'm actually trying to be more social.
You'll see what some of the goals that I've set for myself.
I'm trying to become more social.
And so, and I also don't feel the same pull to social media that I used to feel.
So again, if this is your first Dark Mode,
we're probably not in the same boat there.
And I highly recommend you deactivate your social accounts
and just enjoy the beauty of temporary self-imposed isolation.
It'll give you an entirely different perspective of social media and how it's negatively affecting you,
how much time you're wasting on it.
I also recommend that if you've got a phone, tablet that you're going to be using during Dark Mode,
just turn off the notifications.
So, anything that has notifications, you should either uninstall and not use until the end of Dark Mode,
or you should just turn them off.
Again, you want to try to create a situation and environment for yourself where you're not distracted,
you're not constantly pulled to this or that.
You want to create the perfect environment for realizing your goals.
I can't say that enough.
I also highly recommend setting "No going out" as a rule.
I have learned more in solitude than I have in any other scenario,
and one of my favorite things about Dark Mode is that it gives you a reason and excuse to not be available.
So, if you have particularly needy friends or family,
they may be upset, but the reality is that most people are going to understand and respect what you're doing.
And again, this isn't permanent.
And what you're trying to do, again, can't say it enough,
is to set rules to create optimal conditions for the realization of your goals.
In all likelihood, social media and going out are not helping you to achieve your goals.
It's much more likely that they're doing the exact opposite.
Okay, Number two: Goals.
And we'll start with my goals for Dark Mode 3.0.
Again, I'm setting out to write a new story for myself which includes all of the following goals.
Guys, before I give you guys my goals, please note that these are my goals.
I am someone that has been obsessively working on myself for over eight years now.
More simply put, I'm a maniac.
So, don't be intimidated by my goals.
Your goals should probably be a lot simpler .
And this also may be a lot to take in.
I'm going to just quickly go through my goals.
If you want more details on my goals, you can check them out in that downloadable PDF.
So, I also believe in setting goals in each of our individual quadrants.
I see us as being broken up into occupational, mental, physical and expressive.
So, what I like to do when I run a Dark Mode is to set two goals within each of those different quadrants.
Okay, my occupational goals:
My first goal is to launch a story-based website and one story based marketing campaign for my company.
My second goal is to launch 15 hyperleads.
These are going to be Facebook and Google marketing tutorial videos for my clients.
My mental goals.
So, my first goal is to develop a shadow story.
My second goal is to go an entire three days without speaking.
So, basically to complete a three day meditation.
My physical goals:
First one is to become high energy again.
Second goal is to climb a mountain.
And lastly, my expressive goals:
So, my first goal is to create five story based videos for the channel.
Second goal is to go out and do ten nights of social salsa dancing.
Guys, again, I didn't want to make this video too long.
So, if you want details of why those are my goals, just check out the downloadable PDF guide.
Now, if you're going to be creating goals for yourself,
it is my belief and experience that the best growth is experienced in a balanced way.
And again, I think that we're separated into occupational, mental, physical and expressive;
so I highly recommend you set at least one goal, possibly even two goals, within each of those four different parts.
Now, me personally, I think this is important,
not only because I think growth is best achieved in a more balanced way,
but what's really interesting too is that by setting goals in different capacities,
It'll give you more objectivity, right?
So, rather than just becoming one-dimensional you're becoming multi-dimensional.
As you continue to improve in all areas of your life,
you'll start to see that the barriers between these things will start to kind of disappear.
So, when I say that,
sometimes I'll be having a business conversation and I feel myself using things that I've learned from salsa in the conversation.
I'll be at the gym and sometimes I'll take business principles and apply them in the gym.
I'll take my expressive abilities and use that to discover new movements or create new routines.
I'll use my mental to be more conscious of my physical body,
and what sort of things I should be doing and not doing,
and to become more conscious of what my body responds best to.
And these are just a small number of examples.
There is-
I mean when you've completely blurred the barriers between the different divisions of yourself,
there is a an infinite world of possibilities there, and it's cool.
And it's something that now I'm at a point where I'm starting to get to mastery levels within individual aspects of my life,
and to see how all of these things are connected is is really cool
and something I hope you guys can experience for yourselves.
Okay, so now let's talk about schedule.
So, I'm going to give you guys what is roughly my schedule.
Something very important to note:
I don't follow this exactly minute to minute, hour to hour.
So, 4 a.m to 5 a.m, that's when I'll wake up and do my morning ritual.
5:15 a.m., I'll meditate.
5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m, is my NelsonQuest focus.
7 a.m. is either gym or yoga.
After the gym, so 8:30 a.m roughly, is either sauna or ice bath for 10 to 20 minutes.
9 a.m. is breakfast.
9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m is AgentFire focus, that's my business focus.
During this time, I'll also usually work at least a couple hours from a cafe.
At 1:00 p.m, if there's sun out, I'll take sun for a little bit.
Also, if I'm feeling tired at this time, I'll take a nap.
At 4 p.m. I'll do either salsa or recovery.
So, recovery is going to be either ice bath, sauna or massage.
5 p.m. is dinner.
5:30 p.m. to roughly 7:00 p.m is, again, another AgentFire focus.
7 p.m. t o 8 p.m. is either video games or reading.
And then from 8 p.m to when I go to sleep, I'll do creative writing, reading, my night ritual,
and wind down for bed.
Now guys, if you guys are creating your own schedule,
I highly recommend you to block time to focus on individual goals or pursuits.
And also just remember to be flexible.
A schedule is not something that is set in stone.
It is a guideline designed to maximize your productivity and efficiency,
and thus your ability to complete your goals.
So, I'm also giving myself some weekly exemption tickets.
Again, the last eight years I've lived an extremely solitary mode of existence,
and so, I'm trying become more social.
And I can't do that if I'm isolated.
So, most of you guys are going to be the opposite.
Epecially if this is your first Dark Mode, I highly suggest that you don't set exemptions for yourself.
That you actually embrace being antisocial for a little bit,
embrace isolation and you'll find in that quiet space that you're going to --
If you've never been in that quiet space before,
Man, you guys are going to find some stuff out.
So anyway, I'm giving myself four exemptions:
I get two social events per week.
So, that could be like a movie, dinner, whatever.
One adventure per week.
So, if I decide I want to, I can head out on my motorcycle and head out somewhere for adventure.
Two salsa nights per week.
Again, this is up to two.
Most weeks, I'll probably just do one salsa night.
And then, also a UFC exemption.
So, I'm a huge UFC fan, so if there's a big UFC event, there's usually about one a month,
I'm allowed to watch the replay the following day as long as I do some yoga or body weight exercises while I watch.
So guys, I don't want to make this video longer than it has to be.
I think that's pretty much everything that you need to know.
In the downloadable PDF guide I also listed out a number of definitions and explanations.
I run a ketogenic diet, I practice intermittent fasting.
In the guide, I also detail my morning ritual, my night ritual.
When I work, I practice what's called a Pomodoro Technique,
which is basically where I work for a 40 minute block and then I take a five minute break,
and then I work for another 40 minute block.
I'll usually run two or three of those in a row.
Now, that's been really helpful for me to maintain focus
because whenever I work on an individual Pomodoro, so an individual 40-minute block,
I always have a specific focus right at the onset of that 40 minutes.
It's been, as far as like different things that I've tried to implement to improve my efficiency
and my ability to just get stuff done when it comes to work,
hands-down, the Pomodoro Technique has helped me tremendously.
I'll definitely, one of the videos in this Dark Mode series will definitely cover that.
Anyway, I can't say it enough.
Just grab the downloadable PDF guide.
If you guys, especially if you guys want to create your own Dark mode,
get the guide.
I hope you guys enjoyed this episode.
I hope this was useful framework for you guys to create your own Dark Modes.
As we move through the episodes in this series,
I'm going to continue to give you guys tips, and advice, and perspective stuff that has helped me to create Dark Mode,
to create conditions that have helped me to do things that I'd never thought that I would be able to do.
I hope you guys enjoy this episode.
I'll say it one more time:
Check out the downloadable PDF guide.
It's free.
It took a lot of time.
I spent a lot of time on it,
and it covers everything.
And again, make sure to follow me on instagram @nelsonquest.
Again, I'm going to be posting a nightly insight every night as I work my way through this Dark Mode,
which I think is going to be probably a couple of months.
And guys, I hope you enjoyed this episode.
I hope this has been beneficial to you.
I hope that the idea of Dark Mode is now something that potentially appeals to you,
and I hope that this video has given you enough to be able to create your own Dark Mode
and start implementing it into your own life to realize your goals,
which again, you don't leave Dark Mode until you accomplish your goals.
I mean, it works.
See you guys in the next episode
