Just hours before the temporary exemptions from the U.S. steel and aluminum import tariffs
were set to expire, the White House announced exemption extension for key allies.
Washington also confirmed Seoul is granted a permanent exemption from steel tariffs.
Kim Hyesung gets us up to speed with the developments.
South Korea has been granted permanent steel tariff exemptions from the U.S.
This comes after U.S. President Donald Trump authorized modifications to the U.S. steel
and aluminum tariff measures.
In a statement Monday local time, the White House said it has reached a final agreement
with South Korea on steel exports, the outlines of which were previously announced by the
two countries' trade ministers.
Seoul secured its permanent exemption by agreeing to quotas that will cut its steel exports
by about 30 percent, based on its average annual shipments to the U.S. between 2015
and 2017.
The exception does not apply to aluminum tariffs.
The White House also said it has reached agreements in principle with Argentina, Australia and
Brazil concerning the tariffs, the details of which will be announced shortly.
The U.S. is extending negotiations with the European Union, Canada, and Mexico for 30
days, postponing the temporary exemption deadline to June 1st.
"As of now, it looks like President Trump has got what he had wanted.
A one month extension signals negotiations with the EU, Canada and Mexico are also well
underway.
Just like South Korea secured its steel tariff exemption while renegotiating the bilateral
trade deal, the U.S. is using the same strategy to win concessions from other countries like
quotas and preventing steel transshipment from China."
In March, President Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent tariff
on aluminum, calling it a measure to limit imports and protect its national security
but it granted temporary exemptions to some of its key allies.
The prolonged exemptions for Canada and Mexico come as the U.S. is working to renegotiate
NAFTA, the free trade agreement between the three countries.

Russia accuses US of DIVIDING Syria through illegal airstrikes in BLISTERING attack - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 3:04.
Russia accuses US of DIVIDING Syria through illegal airstrikes in BLISTERING attack
RUSSIA's Foreign Minister has accused the US of trying to divide Syria while ignoring
international law by launching missiles into the war-torn country.
Sergey Lavrov made the accusations on Saturday while meeting his Turkish and Iranian counterparts
in Moscow for talks on the seven-year Syrian war.
Mr Lavrov said: "While we are building options for peace, some of our other colleagues are
trying to destroy the results of our joint constructive efforts, not even following the
international law, like in the recent operation of the US, UK and France against Syria."
The airstrike on April 14 targeted suspected chemical weapons infrastructure following
an alleged chemical weapons attack on Douma, which has been blamed on the Assad regime.
At least 75 people are said to have been killed by the attack, but Syria has denied responsibility.
Mr Lavrov said the airstrikes "seriously aggravated the situation".
The foreign minister added US statements about supporting the territorial integrity of Syria
"are only words that, apparently, cover plans for reformatting the Middle East and
plans for dividing Syria into parts".
He also said Russia, Iran and Turkey will work together to ensure that won't happen.
The meeting was to prepare the groundwork for the ninth round of Asanta talks, aimed
at ending the violence in Syria, which are to be held in Kazakhstan next month.
They said the Asanta process is the only way of reducing tensions.
Talks between the three nations have regularly taken place since 2017 in the Kazakh capital,
Astana.
They are meant to complement the UN-led peace process.
Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said it is important to work with the UN to
ensure the legitimacy of political solution in Syria because a military solution would
be illegal and unsustainable.
But the opposition in Syria, which is backed by the US, UK and France, have been adamant
that a political solution cannot include Assad, which Turkey believes too.
Al Jazeera's Rory Challands from Moscow said: "Turkey has always felt that Assad
should not really be a part of Syria's constitutional future.
"The Russians have always said that the opposition needs to get rid of these preconditions
because they are destructive to Syria's peace prospects."

honor as president than to serve as the commander in chief of the United States
Armed Forces and I truly have no greater pleasure than to award the
commander-in-chief's trophy for the first time in 21 years to the Army Black
Knights special thanks to West Point superintendent Lieutenant General Bob
cash and whiz Bob where's Bob how do you like it Bob Bob Castle you know you

what you did and you have done a fantastic job thank you
made the right choice with you general you're a great leader and a legendary
institution that has been a source of pride and strength for our country for
more than two centuries I'd like to welcome to West Point grad serving in my
administration we're here today to celebrate the Black Knights history and
really that historic victory secretary of the army
mark Esper where's mark mark mark mark how are you mark doing a great job and a
man that's gotten more publicity than me lately our new Secretary of State first
in his class at West Point is that a true story he was first in his class and
I have he is who he is today because I was his tack officer as well
that's Mike Pompeo and he's been busy general he's been very busy he's been a
busy guy how's everything going good I think better than people even understand
good good job Mike a warm welcome to Deputy Secretary of Defense
Patrick Shanahan Patrick thank you very much Thank You Patrick as well as the
army chief of staff a very special guy general mark Milley thank you
thank you Joe finally and most importantly welcome to coach Jeff Monken
see they say most important today is a very important day he's a great coach
and the 2017 commander-in-chief trophy winning team the Army Black Knights that
really is something very special coach thank you very much what a job I assume
you have him signed to a long term contract he could get a little expensive
I don't know but he said he loves his team coming back so you have another
good season planned I know that as the team had an amazing season capping it
off with a come-from-behind victory at the Armed Forces Bowl a game I watched
and that was a very exciting game that was old-fashioned football everybody had
counted you out but you refused to give up you scored 21 points in the fourth
quarter alone your victory gave army its second ten win season in the entire
history of army football that's something winning a bowl game is
truly impressive and you really shutting out Air Force and Air Force is a great
football power at a great football school 21 to nothing but we all know
that your most important win was at the celebrated Army Navy game there is no
game like that I think coach oh well it's something special on that snowy day
you fought hard you came from behind and beat Navy for the second season in a row
the first time that it's happened in over two decades that's what you call a
job well done amazing really amazing in that most crucial game of the year you
made the entire US Army proud and you made the country proud early in the
third quarter Navy was up ten to seven when their quarterback started racing
down the field one of your team captains Jon Voight no relation to Jon Voight he
wouldn't be too good a football player but he's good at other things right Jon
Voight was John come on big guy I think he's good-looking enough Mike I don't
know well so you went down and you stopped him with a shoestring tackle
water play John so if he doesn't make that shoestring tackle what happens
coach you're probably not standing here right now coach that was great that stop
save the game for army and put all of you in the record books
so what it's done you're in the record books credible season then there's your
great army quarterback that we all know co-captain Ahmad Bradshaw Ahmad
oh I could just see the NFL I don't know how much I don't know I think you'd
rather be doing what you're doing and you're doing an unbelievable job what a
great game you had you became Army's all-time single-season rushing leader
with 1746 yards that's a lot of yards that's all time you didn't just break
the army record much you broke the rushing record for every single service
Academy ever so that is a tremendous achievement thank you and I understand
that one of the toughest moments of the year came with only two games left in
the season I hate to bring this up but we have to coach when the University of
North Texas scored a winning field goal in the last seconds of the game the
final score was a heartbreaking 52 to 49 back in the locker room coach Monken
looked every player every single one of them in the eye and with great
inspiration he asked do you want to win with me do you want to win with me right
coach I guess they said yes right they responded finally the coach declared we
are not losing another game this year we're going to outwork out coach and
outplay everyone and that's what they did and that's why you're at the Rose
Garden of the White House right now receiving this really incredible trophy
very meaningful trophy each of you is part of a great tradition of army
football excellence that goes back many generations and it's true excellence
here today is one of the great examples of that tradition a key member of the
legendary 1958 team exactly 60 years ago army went totally undefeated this
pretty good general right good team how do you think they could have beaten you
guys they might have been smaller and not as fast but I'd like to recognize a
member of that historic team former all-american got a lot of people know
this name if they know football even a little bit great linebacker Bob
Novogratz whiz Bob where is well come here Bob hey Bob come here Bob come here

players here today West Point adopted each one of you into its history
traditions and values the Corps gave you a fundamental piece of who you are and
who you will always be you have given back to the Corps with dedication and
teamwork with every effort to achieve physical and academic excellence with

As Caravan Of Migrants Reaches U.S. Border, Team Trump Delivers Nasty Surprise
As the caravan of migrants from Central America reached the U.S.-Mexico border, President
Donald Trump's team delivered a nasty surprise that they weren't expecting.
Liberals are going to hate this move.According to Daily Caller, the Department of Justice
(DOJ) filed criminal charges against 11 individuals believed to be part of the caravan of Central
American migrants seeking asylum in the United States on Monday, April 30, 2018.
The DOJ issued a press release which said that Border Patrol agents were able to apprehend
the individuals a few miles west of the designated border crossing in San Ysidro, California.
"The United States will not stand by as our immigration laws are ignored and our nation's
safety is jeopardized," Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement.
The individuals taken into custody were charged with knowingly and willingly entering the
U.S. at a time and place other than one designated by immigration officers.
The arrests occurred one day after the group of 150 – 200 immigrants from Central America
arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border.
A spokesperson for the Customs and Border Patrol said in a statement that the agency
began processing the requests for asylum from some members of the caravan on Monday, April
30, 2018.
Those who could not be processed immediately were advised to remain in Mexico until space
becomes available.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen had previously warned that the federal government
would arrest and prosecute illegal immigrants for entering the country unlawfully.
The caravan, which had originally numbered over 1,000 members, broke down into smaller
groups over the past couple of weeks.
President Donald Trump referenced the caravan's progress to push for stricter immigration
laws and to talk about why we need a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
In one message that he sent out on Twitter, Trump blasted our current federal policies.
"The migrant 'caravan' that is openly defying our border shows how weak & ineffective
U.S. immigration laws are.
Yet Democrats like Jon Tester continue to support the open borders agenda – Tester
even voted to protect Sanctuary Cities.
We need lawmakers who will put America First," Trump wrote.President Donald Trump openly
rebuked Montana Democratic Senator Jon Tester in the tweet for his support for the open
borders agenda.
Notably, Tester came under fire from the President after he spread malicious rumors about Rear
Admiral Ronny Jackson who was nominated to become the next Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
As reports of the caravan's arrival at the border hit the news, Vice President Mike Pence
paid a visit to Border Patrol agents in Calexico, California to reaffirm his and Trump's commitment
to reforming immigration and building a wall.
"It's not just about a wall, the President and I are determined to work with the Congress
to fully fund the wall, to build the entire wall but we have to fix our immigration system.
We have to close the dangerous loopholes, the kind of provisions in 'catch and release'
and chain migration and our entire system that essentially entice people or entice people
that would take advantage of vulnerable families," Pence said.
"To encourage them to make the long and often dangerous trip up to our border.
We're a country that believes in legal immigration but it's important as I said earlier today
to recognize the people in the caravan," Pence continued.People that come often through
great peril to try and come into this country either by applying for access at our border
or by coming into the country illegally are often victims themselves, exploited by human
traffickers, people that will smuggle individuals into this country for a fee.
Open borders advocates as well have taken advantage of these families," Pence added,
according to Yahoo News.
Many of the families who are brought in caravans up to the U.S.-Mexico border are victims of
human traffickers and smugglers, but more importantly, American citizens are the victims
who end up paying the price for mass illegal immigration.
It's time for Congress to get behind our President and his administration and fully
fund the wall.

Trump suggests Panmunjom as possible venue for U.S.-North Korea Summit - Duration: 2:06.
From Singapore to European nations, numerous candidates seems to be under consideration
as the backdrop for the historic maiden Washington-Pyongyang meeting.
U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the truce village of Panmunjom as a possible venue
for that summit.
Kim Hyo-sun has the latest.
The truce village of Panmunjom,... where the leaders of the two Koreas renewed their commitment
to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula,... is being considered as a possible venue for
the U.S.-North Korea Summit scheduled for late May or early June.
After meeting with his Nigerian counterpart at the White House on Monday,...
President Trump said the inter-Korean border would be an excellent venue for the summit.
"We're looking at various countries including Singapore, and we are also talking about the
possibility of the DMZ - Peace House, Freedom House.
And there's something that I thought was intriguing...
There's something that I like about it, because you are there.
You're actually there, where if things work out, there's a great celebration to be had,
on the site, not in a third party country."
He also tweeted on Monday that the Peace House or the Freedom House on the inter-Korean border
could be a more representative, important and lasting site than a third party country.
Until late last week,... Trump had said potential summit locations had been whittled down to
two countries,... including Singapore.
But it looks like President Trump discussed the idea of holding the summit at Panmunjom
during his phone talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-in following last week's inter-Korean
summit.
After their conversation,... which Trump hailed as long and good,... he also added that things
are going well and the time and location of the meeting is being set.
If Panmunjom is finalized as the venue for the first-ever meeting between the sitting
leaders of the U.S. and North Korea,... the inter-Korean border, which has long been a
symbol of division would likely become a true symbol of peace.

Tucker Carlson Tonight 05/1/2018: Trump ran on improving U.S. relations with Russia. - Duration: 3:08.
why are you criticizing Jim Comey and Andrew McCabe if a friend asked you that
question it wouldn't be hard to answer Comey was the shifty aesthetical FBI
director in memory his deputy Andy McCabe repeatedly lied to federal
investigators you try that you'd wind up in jail
so why criticize these guys because they deserve it but let's say a federal
prosecutor asked you the very same question using this language quote what
is the reason for your continued criticism of mr. Comey and his former
deputy Andrew G McCabe see how the tone is different there suddenly it's ominous
it sounds more like a threat than a question what's the point of asking that
you might wonder since when is criticizing FBI officials a crime in
this country well apparently since Robert Muller became a special counsel
according to New York Times that's one of more than 40 questions Mahler plans
to ask the president under penalty of perjury here's another one quote what
was your opinion of mr. Comey during the transition huh your opinion whose
business is that aren't Americans allowed to have any opinion they want
without being grilled by law enforcement about it and then there's this question
quote what was the purpose of your July 2017 criticism of mr. sessions again
criticism of a government official framed as a crime as if dissenting views
aren't allowed or must be justified to a prosecutor what country is this anyway
in fact the president is allowed to have any opinion he wants of anyone who works
for him that is true of all presidents they get to hire and fire their own
appointees for their own reasons if you don't like it don't vote for them this
is a democracy Trump got elected Muller didn't presidents also get to formulate
their own policies voters can decide whether they agree with those policies
again that's why we have elections yet here are two more Muller questions
listen to these quote what discussions did you have during the campaign
regarding Russian sanctions and quote what involvement did you have concerning
2016 Republican platform changes regarding arming Ukraine so let's review
Trump ran for office promising to improve our relationship with Russia
he said that frequently and in public voters heard it they agreed with
him and he won but permanent Washington hated the idea of getting closer to
Russia they've been pushing a war with Iran for years that's obvious now closer
ties with Russia would make an Iran war far more complicated Putin had to be the
arch evil and the most evil man in the world
never mind China or Mexico or other countries whose behavior is actually
hurting the United States Russia needed to be our enemy a country with an
economy the size of Texas they can't make a working escalator they needed to
be evil no matter what voters said they wanted and so that happened the policies
that Trump ran on are now considered evidence of a crime America is that much
closer to war with Iran mission accomplished

Outnumbered 5/1/18: Jason Chaffetz: US should not have signed the Iran deal - Duration: 1:50.
a former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says that verification process is
one of the biggest problems with the nuclear agreement my concern about the
nuclear deal had been the verification regime if anything this just makes it
even more clear that you you can't have a verification regime that gives the
Iranians weeks to clean up a site before you can go in I actually think if we
pull out now it's not going to be the disaster that everybody's talking about
I might I would not have signed this deal I don't think it was a very good
deal I think we were in a hurry to get a deal and we left a lot on the table I
would not be in a hurry to have signed this deal but first can we talk about
what the incredible intelligence feat this was for the Mossad to go into
Tehran and to take out hundreds of thousands of documents and binders and
physical evidence I mean that is just amazing that they were able to do that
that was amazing and I think that the Prime Minister makes a good case but I'm
with Condoleezza Rice on this I don't think they should have signed it and
asked the very simple basic question about verification can inspectors get in
there anyplace anytime and go and verify answers know now and so if you can't do
that then why should we allow this to continue and the Obama administration
should have never given the tens of billions
we don't even know today how many tens of billions of dollars cash on airplanes
flying in and the last point I would make is if we're going to have an
agreement like this it should be structured as a treaty make the case in
American people make the case of the United States Congress do it right do it
as a treaty not just some secret deal that John Kerry and President Obama did
