Sun damaged skin with resulting in freckles and dark spots can appear at any age.
This includes situations such as younger people who've experience a lot of sun exposure
or indoor tanning, as well as older people with accumulated sun damage which becomes
more visible in later years.
Treating sun damaged skin in the past involved aggressive treatments accompanied by long
downtime.
Modern technologies allow me to help my patients get comparable results, but without the prolonged
healing process.

I've been in practice in Manhattan and Long Island for over 20 years.
I have been treating sun damaged skin since I started my practice.
I started first using deep chemical peels and fully ablative CO2 laser.
As medical technology evolved, I adapted the use of less aggressive fractional lasers such
as CO2 and Erbium lasers.
In addition, I routinely use nonablative lasers which leave the top layers of skin intact
resulting in tupically no downtime.
I also synergistically use regenerative medicine technology like PRP or platelet-rich plasma
to further improve the skin at the same time.
Types of sun damaged skin ranges from different concentrations of melanin and pigment.
Light to dark discolorations that manifest as small spots are commonly described as freckles
or solar dyschromias.
Larger, more defined spots are commonly described as dark spots or brown spots, which we call
in our field solar lentigos.
These freckles and brown spots occur between the top and bottom layer of the skin, called
the dermal-epidermal junction.
To treat dark spots and freckles in the past involved removing, or ablating the top layer
skin.
This was first done with chemical peels, also known as TCA peels, which stands for trichloroacetic
acid, which required significant recovery for the top layer of skin to regenerate.
Chemical peels also tended to treat unaffected areas of the face, so treatment wasn't localized
to small areas.
This meant that more surface area of the face was involved in the healing process.
While TCA peels are effective, they did require patients to take time off work while their
facial skin was still peeling for several days after treatment.
Skin treatment evolved into the first fully ablative CO2 lasers in the mid 1990s.
CO2 lasers also removed the top layer of skin, and required significant downtime.
Lasers were also effective but patients were exposed to a lot of heat energy, and doctors
and practitioners had to manage the effects of high levels of heat on the skin.
Fully ablative CO2 lasers also involved removal of the top layer of skin, with heating of
the lower layer of the skin, the dermis.
A lot of healing time was needed.
Patients could be out for weeks while waiting for a skin layers to come back and cover up
the skin which was intensely red.
The laser technology I use in my practice every to treat solar dyschromias and lentigos
are treated without the need for prolonged downtime.
I discuss with my patients during consultation what the specific aspects of the skin my patients
want to see improve.
I also discuss the amount of recovery needed for the issues they are concerned about.
For example, if they want to address fine lines, an option we can use are fractional
lasers.
There is a dual benefit to fractional lasers.
One is the removal of irregular top layers of skin which is the epidermis and the other
is energy delivery for collagen remodeling in the lower layer of the skin, the dermis.
Unlike fully ablative laser treatment, fractional lasers allow surface areas to be left intact
which results in faster healing.
If the main concern is about dark spots and freckles, I usually use a Q Switch laser.
The laser can go through the top layer of skin leaving it intact while breaking up the
pigment caused by sun damage.
The approach to treatment is typically to have patients come in monthly so the pigmentation
progressively diminished without any disruption in the patient's schedule.
I explain to my patients that the pigmentation caused by the sun is comparable to a tattoo
even though a tattoo is placed in the deeper part of the skin.
The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment and broken up into smaller particles which
are metabolized by the body.
Like all laser treatments, skin type and skin color are very important factors in the type
of laser used and the energy settings.
Generally speaking, lighter skin can take a higher energy setting, while darker skin
needs a lower setting.
As I stated earlier, I routinely employ the use of regenerative medicine technology such
as platelet rich plasma and hyaluronic acid to help the skin quality.
It's actually a routine for us to perform Q switch laser treatment, which we refer to
as laser toning with PRP and hyaluronic acid delivered to the dermis called skin boosting.
In fact, PRP has been documented in the medical literature to be beneficial in treating hyperpigmentation
which further makes this combination an effective strategy.
Treating pigmentation and other skin issues caused by sun damage no longer requires the
long downtime of chemical peels and aggressive lasers.
As mentioned earlier, since the top layer of skin is intact with the Q Switch laser,
healing time is minimal to none even when combined with skin boosting.
This means your skin quality and areas of pigmentation can be treated conveniently without
interruption in your daily routine.
I recommend using other products such as sunblock to protect the skin from sun exposure which
can cause more brown discolorations to appear.

Faint Galaxy w/ Zero Dark Matter Finding Draws Heated Criticism - Duration: 6:32.
Hello Space Fans and welcome to another edition of Space Fan News.
In this episode, astronomers respond to the claim made by the authors of the Nature paper
stating the galaxy known as NGC1052-DF2 - a galaxy claimed to have no dark matter - by
offering alternative explanations and expressing frustration that such extraordinary claims
were made based on such flimsy evidence.

So back on March 19th I uploaded a video telling you guys about the discovery of a galaxy called
NGC1052-DF2 or Dragonfly 44, a galaxy that the team of astronomers who studied it said
had no dark matter.
But the thing is, this would have been the only galaxy found to not have any dark matter
in it whatsoever.
What's more, this result was used to put a nail in the coffin for the MOND theory of
galaxy rotation.
So to take a quick step back for a second, astronomers have found evidence that every
galaxy has dark matter in it.
They can't see it directly but they can see the effect the dark matter has on the
rotation rate of the galaxy.
A galaxy that has no dark matter would rotate like the image on the left while one with
no dark matter in it should rotate like the galaxy on the right.
When you add up all the stuff you can see in a galaxy, you get something called its
luminous mass and includes all the dust, cool gas, hot gas and stars that are all shining
or radiating at a wide variety of wavelengths.
For example, dust can be seen in radio, cool and hot gasses in the infrared, and stars
can be seen in infrared, through visible and up past ultraviolet.
So we can see most of the normal matter in a galaxy and this is usually called the luminous
mass of the galaxy.
There is another kind of galactic mass, called a dynamical mass and is inferred by looking
at the motions of things like globular clusters within the galaxy to get a handle on things
we can't see like black holes and dark matter.
If the dynamical mass is way different from the luminous mass, then astronomers assume
there are lots of black holes and dark matter in that galaxy.
And most galaxies are like this.
But this galaxy wasn't.
It was a very dim, diffuse galaxy whose luminous and dynamical masses appeared to be close.
To get the dynamical mass, the authors measured the velocities of 10 globular clusters that
they assumed were gravitationally bound to the ultra diffuse galaxy.
If this result is confirmed, then it would be the the first ever case of such a galaxy,
out of hundreds of billions of galaxies.
But in a response published on the astronomy preprint site Astro-ph earlier this month,
and whose link I put in the description box below if you want to follow along, some astronomers
have a real problem with the methodology and the conclusions reached in this paper that
went out in one of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world, Nature.
They respond: This galaxy is very dim, and there is no way to measure for sure how stable
the orbits of the globular cluster are, nor can we even tell if they are gravitationally
bound to the galaxy itself.
If the globular clusters aren't really part of the galaxy, then they can't have anything
to contribute with respect to the dynamical mass.
There is also no evidence that the galaxy is the same at all angles (it may be a disk
and we're looking at it face on) nor is there evidence that all the stars and clusters
in the galaxy are gravitationally stable.
Objects in the galaxy may still be interacting in a chaotic way.
If it were stable, which is known as virialization, then we might be able to use these clusters
as the authors attempted.
But we don't even know that.
What we do know reasonably well is that this galaxy has a luminous mass of about 10^8 solar
masses, that's a hundred million solar masses, and as far as we know, galaxies this small
do not contain significant globular cluster systems.
Based on the paper, the authors claim that this galaxy contains 1000 times more globular
clusters than would be expected in a galaxy this size.
Say what?
If this is true, then the luminosity function (this is a way of finding what's inside
a galaxy based on its luminosity distribution), would be different from all other galaxies
in the universe.
Something these guys find very suspicious.
This galaxy would truly be different from any other known galaxy and would not follow
a luminosity function which has been proven to be universal.
So it is with a huge amount of incredulity that astronomers discover that this analysis
was published at all.
These guys are saying the findings in this paper don't even come close to the 5 sigma
deviation standard to warrant a paper of this magnitude to be published, much less in Nature.
Reading from the final paragraph of the response: Having said all the above, we cannot avoid
to ask ourselves how could such a result have been published at all, wondering how a similar
paper would have been received if the conclusion were the other way around.
This points to the responsibility of journals that at present adopt standards orders of
magnitude lower to publish results favouring the dark matter hypothesis compared to the
ones required to papers claiming the opposite.
Our sad conclusion is that science cannot progress this way.

What if you threw a baseball up in the air and it never stopped?
And then, not only did it defy gravity, it started racing away faster and faster with
nothing propelling it.
That's exactly how astronomers felt in 1998, except, instead of a ball, they found the
entire universe was racing apart faster and faster by the instant.
So, why would the universe do that?
Our best theory is that there's something invisible all around you--and even though
you've never seen it, it makes up 70% of the universe.
It's called dark energy.
So, 20 years ago, by looking at supernovae, astronomers noticed that the universe wasn't
just expanding outward--it was actually accelerating faster and faster outward.
And they began to think, maybe space itself is expanding.
But saying it just is special and expands is kind of random.
It's like having magnets and seeing them attract and just saying, "OK, magnets attract," and
not worrying about electromagnetism or the fields involved.
Now, remember, in Einstein's view, spacetime is basically this mesh that just sits there
unless energy or matter bends it.
And you might have seen videos or images of the bending of that spacetime mesh that causes
things to attract.
But maybe there's a special kind of substance, something invisible and undetectable that
pushes the spacetime mesh apart.
OK: Imagine that space is full of bubbles that repel each other.
And whenever there's enough space for a new bubble to form, it does.
And that bubble repels all the other bubbles.
And then bubbles keep popping into existence, pushing each other apart, and pushing space
with it.
So, space and time probably isn't made of bubbles, but on really small scales, you actually
do have particles popping in and out of existence.
They're called virtual particles, and they live for a very short time before they annihilate
each other.
So maybe the energy of these particles is what's causing the universe to expand.
But if you calculate the amount of pushing from all the virtual particles that exist
in the standard model of particle physics, you get too much pushing.
You actually get a trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion
trillion times too much pushing.
So, our current quantum theories of particle physics can't explain observations of dark
energy.
And some people think we just need to add something onto those quantum theories--something
like supersymmetry.
But other people think that we actually need to change our theory of gravity--change general
relativity so, say, space itself expands without worrying about these particles.
Either way, dark energy is even hard to imagine.
Even in our shows here at NOVA, we show some beautiful things, but they're not what dark
energy would look like.
If you make dark energy, say, green, so you could see it, it would actually look like
this.
It has the same density everywhere.
And if it started to expand, it would actually do this.
You see it expanding?
Dark energy doesn't even get diluted because it's embedded in space.
As space expands, you get more space, but you get more dark energy with it, and it looks
the same.
For now, all we know is that the bigger the universe gets, the faster it flies apart.
And one day, the distance between our Milky Way and the neighboring galaxies will be growing
faster than the speed of light.
When that happens, even our best telescopes won't be able to see those galaxies.

Coheed and Cambria have returned today with their first single in three years, "Dark Sentencer", presumably off their forthcoming album arriving later this year through Roadrunner Records.
The band dropped the 10-minute long track this morning via YouTube, which is a welcoming return to form after their departure on 2015's The Color Before the Sun.
"The Dark Sentencer", which is an anthem rager, returns to the sci-fi theatrical concept that made them famous.

"Years ago, chaos cut through this atmosphere.
The fractured worlds that inhabit this space were once locked in a force of uncontrollable destruction.
Gravity was lost.
Their planetary trajectories conjoined in one catastrophic collision, choking to remain viable even as the dying glow of their cores peek through the cracks and scars of those impactful moments.

how to toggle the dark and light themes
inside of the Glitch editor.
Let's get started.
To toggle the themes we need to go to the User Options menu
and that's located here at the top right of the page.
You can easily see the user options because it will
have your avatar here as the icon.
And once you click that, you'll see a menu here
with a button that will allow you to change the theme.
By default, the Glitch editor theme is light.
And you'll see that the button has a moon next to it.
To change it to the dark theme simply click this button
and now the theme will change over to dark.
You'll also notice that the moon has changed to a sun.
To save this change, just click anywhere outside
of the user options and you're all set.

Hey ladies again I apologize about the bathing suit I probably should go in
and decide to change but time is money so we're gonna go over your list and
event okay so we are going to put a list together of a hundred people do not
freak out on me okay trust me I did the exact same thing do not freak out that
list should always be developing that list should be a mom that you met at a
mother's day out program that maybe is looking for some extra income or or it
could be the cashier at your grocery store that you absolutely love and it's
great with people and it was complaining about how she doesn't love her job okay
always be adding people to that list and put pen to paper don't have just a list
that you think you can carry around on your phone put pen to paper okay so
we're gonna create a list add anyone to that so this is when I'm gonna tell you
about the three different lanes okay so the three different lanes of direct
sales is inviting then what's the next lane presenting and then what's the lane
after that deciding okay so inviting presenting deciding inviting presenting
designing deciding designing so when you are talking to someone or you are making
a list you are not making the decision for them I strongly strongly strongly
encourage this every time I've made a decision for somebody I've been found
out that they've started with somebody else or I've then found out that there's
someone else's customer and that they didn't until after I decided that I
wouldn't contact that so do not get out of the deciding lane okay don't be a
drunk-driving over you're all over the place it will help your business I
promise you I promise you okay so when you're in the lane of in of
making your list that's all you're doing you're not deciding for anybody you're
not presenting to anyone first thing you're gonna do is you're gonna do that
list of 100 okay even if you have stir even if you get to 20 that's okay just
start that list okay and then after that we're gonna do a chicken list the
chicken list is my favorite list that's out there because it's the one that
everyone is terrified of trust me I am too I still get butterflies what I think
about my chicken list but I also tell myself the way that I talk to myself so
I'm like you can do this you're fine you can contact them worst case scenario
what can they say is no that's it so when you're doing your chicken list
you're gonna think about people that are extremely well off might not need extra
income but they want to be a better person people who are incredible at
business people who have a lot of influence and
people who are extremely driven okay so this can even be somebody who works at
your local grocery store and they're a manager and they are dead-on
every time you walk in there they are getting stuff to get it together they're
getting stuff taken care of and they thrive on being a leader you're looking
for an ace in your business or a leader in your business okay so when you go to
do this Chicken list I want you to think of everyone that you respect that you
love that you think would be great at this business but I also don't want you
to limit it to that because some of these people might not need extra income
some of these people might not care about the money however they might care
about the life that they can change by doing this they might care about the
women that they can help with financial freedom they might care about the
cruises and being a part of the culture okay so don't limit your chicken list
either from there what we're gonna do with these two lists is we are going to
invite them to your first event y'all it is 2018 let's be honest events can be
virtual or they can be at your home so if you're like I really don't want to do
a party at my house or my house is a disaster or like me I have yet to have a
wine and wash in my own house I've had at other places simply because I have
poor children under the age of four and we don't have anywhere else to take them
I'm just being honest so when you go to do an event we're gonna go through this
list and all we're gonna do is invite okay so we will help you tackle that as
the leaders and mentor as leaders if you're watching this and you're like I
don't know what to do go to the leaders unit I'm walking you all through meat
and potatoes how to run an organization how to help people get to where they
want to go and how to do proper zoom calls everything okay so go look at the
leader tab so when you are creating this list we are now going to invite them to
a wine and wash event so this is where you have two different routes that you
can take them I'll get on three-way calls and 3-way messages on the next
video but this one is just inviting so when you do a wine and wash event be
creative have fun do stuff do a graphic that's fun do an invite on Facebook if
you want to here's my strong strong strong encouragement for you if you were
doing a Facebook invite make sure to have that person's number and call them
the hour or two before and just say hey girl I'm so excited for you
tonight just wanted to make sure you are getting everything ready make sure to
have a list of all your confirmed guests before your party and make sure to call
them and confirm that they're still coming if I had a penny for every time
this happens to me and I had forgotten and I'm like oh yeah no you're gonna I'm
turning around the car I will be right there it happens so help those women
remember not by just posting on the party and going hasty on a little bit
you might not check their Facebook okay so when you have your list of a hundred
and then you have your chicken list we're gonna start conquering these don't
freak out cold prospecting is an option but let's start here okay and let's not
make decisions for these people let's let them decide and trust me when you
see a wine and wash event you'll realize that it is extremely relaxed because we
know the power power of these products we know that when somebody loves the
products and when they try it they're converting them to a customer a VIP or a
market partner is way easier and trust me we're not going to attack them at the
parties it's just hey let's wash your hair and hang out that's it because
people support people who they what who they know love and trust so that's what
I have for y'all next video you're gonna go over to is the three-way messages and
three-way calls leaders if you don't know how to do

The Dark Side - Branding & Content - Duration: 6:37.
Hey ladies I am busting these out so y'all might see me live a few more times
I have two kids who are occupied so I'm gonna try and ocupado this really
quickly these are going to be Facebook live tips obviously I promise y'all
branding training as well so I've been I am still working on this and still
perfecting this and honestly part of me doesn't want to be too professional so
don't feel like you have to either so here's the goal with Facebook live
Facebook lives Facebook lives are the top and best with the Facebook algorithm
right now so if you do a Facebook live you're most likely going to get shared
on a lot more newsfeed cuz that's why Facebook lives are huge if you upload a
picture a status and I don't know share something I guess share would be the
other and picture status and share all at the same time and do a Facebook live
these are not gonna get seen by nearly as many people as your facebook live my
kids gonna come in here screaming just let you know so here's a few tips one
you always want to have a call to action this is gonna be like the basics okay
I'm not going to get super in-depth I will on another training so the basics
would be hey put a 1 in the comments if you're catching me live and a 2 in the
comments if you're catching the replay you say something like this and you have
a call to action because the majority of people excuse me the majority of people
who are going to see your video are going to be replayed viewers so that is
why you're telling them hey let me know that you're replaying because then
you'll also see who is interacting with you here's another trick when they are
writing obviously commenting on their news feeds it will boost your video in
the Facebook algorithm so when you're telling people hey comment 1 if you're
watching me live or comment 2 if you're catching the replay when they comment to
your video is now being boosted again in the Facebook algorithm instead of just
sitting there and you know you did a live and you didn't tell anyone to do
anything ok so call to action and people have very short attention spans so I
have notes I'm going to copy them onto here with it people literally like if I
see a video that's more than like I'm seeing I've seen videos that are hour
something I'm not going to watch them I'm gonna know that I'm committing to
watching an hour-long video and it's not going to happen so I don't unless it is
very very very important content and 19 point nine percent of the time it's not
so I'll skim through the video and see if I see what I want to find and then
I'll be done so when you go to do a Facebook live try and keep it less than
five minutes if you are I know it's hard because you have people hopping on so
you're like trying to say hi to them and trying to say hi to everybody else who's
watching and I like I've had upwards of 20 30 people watching me and I felt like
I've needed to get more content don't do it because you're actually losing replay
viewers by having longer and longer content ain't nobody got time for that
that's right Christina hey Athena I will have notes after this for you as well so
when you go to do a Facebook live less than 5 minutes
stick to the point and get straight to the content that is the only reason
people are watching and that is how you are going to keep their attention okay
so um so at the end of the day it's not about you so if you're sitting there and
you're just talking about you all the time you're not adding value to anyone
you're just bragging about yourself or your you're being dramatic and talking
about your life don't get me wrong there are times when doing rants are
okay like I love watching rants I think we rants are hysterical when people are
like I'm just done I went to McDonald's and they did not agree marry my coffee
like I love rants however a rant that last 45 minutes is now you just
complaining and people are tired of hearing it so remember it's not about
you it's about what your viewers want to see and the content that you're putting
out and how to help them relate to you you relate to them in them to come back
and try want to see you again okay hey Lisa so when you are trying to get
natural engagement you can say something like oh my goodness my toddler was going
crazy today y'all I got them these really cute shorts from Target which
y'all need to check out they're so cute but put a hashtag crazy toddler in the
comment if you have a crazy toddler little engagements like that encourage
more comments throughout your facebook lives what that does is when you have
somebody watching again when you have somebody watching and they're continuing
to comment it's boosting your I could have sworn somebody just walked in my
friend or it's boosting your Facebook live on the news feeds again so now your
friends friends are seeing it because your friend is commenting okay make sure
your pages on public I know this is really hard but go excuse me guys go to
your content and if you on private that means that only your
friends are seen it which is fine if you're like me and you don't like
creepers that's okay but remember you're missing a huge audience so if your stuff
is private you better have 5,000 friends on
Facebook otherwise you need to make that stuff public so that you're not missing
out on a bunch of people because if your friends are commenting on your Facebook
live and your stuff is private it's not popping up in their newsfeed like it
should be okay look at the camera guys I hate teaching people this because I
don't do it I look at myself the whole time so this is me looking at myself
okay this is me talking to the tiny little dot that is my camera I always
think it makes me look cross-eyed so I never look at people but that is what
you're technically supposed to do so I always look at myself just because I'm
weird like that I mean let me see what else oh yeah
be genuine this is the last tip I have for you all because the rest is meeting
potatoes and I'll do that on another super super deep training but be genuine
okay just like I said earlier and the branding and post in can be puffs yes
that's correct yeah your page can be private and then
you can allow your post to be public yeah you're absolutely right Athena and
and so if you are faking if you're you're trying to fake it till you make
it it's not gonna work people are gonna notice so for instance when I went on
and I did a wash which was my life I don't typically take mone stuff on to my
personal page and yet I probably will within the next year I plan on it so
when I went and I did my face of whitewash live I had people who were
like dude you legit knew what you were doing now if I was going to talk to
someone about how to play the violin I'd be like so I heard that you hold it like
this yeah that's I think that's right people are going to pick up so be
genuine make sure that the content you're putting out is something that you
love but also think about your viewers who are you trying to attract if you're
trying to attract stay-at-home moms you probably shouldn't be promoting yourself
in a club at 2:00 a.m. unless it's like a crazy moms out night out so I'm going
to copy the notes from this and paste them onto this video so Athena you can
rewatch it even up any of your girls we watch it and I'm gonna get you all more
content so I'll probably see y'all here in just a little bit
