How many people did Che Guevara kill_history
Since Che mainly operated on deep jungle, in wartime conditions where one side was a guerrilla army and the other side was a dictatorship, there are simply no numbers to speak of on the total amount of people he personally killed.
If you refer to the infamous trials in La Cabaña, that´s a different matter since there is no evidence he personally killed anyone at that time.
He did sign the death sentences passed down by the popular courts, which, as given by the context of the time and the the predominant emotional state of a people that just toppled a violent dictatorship, is more vengeful and expedite than rational and deliberative.
The amount of responsibility you choose to apply to Guevara on that is an entirely personal matter. There is no authoritative number for the amount of executions that happened at La Cabaña as far as I know.
I have seen estimates going from 50 to 150 executions, but if you want to go for the obviously exaggerated estimates of the reactionary Cuban exiles or the CIA, you can believe that there were up to 2000 executions during this period and that Guevara presided every single mock trial, including killing people just because they were Christians or even if there were no proof that they actually aided Batista.
I personally believe this to be merely false propaganda to taint the image of Che and the Cuban Revolution by extension, but to each its own.
I do not believe anyone has the true number you are looking for. Che was active on two continents, for years, and the question is too wide in scope.
I would submit to you, however, that this question is fruitless. Che Guevara worked as a guerrilla fighter in deeply chaotic conditions.
No one goes through these conditions as a Buddhist monk. Discipline must be maintained, secrecy must be maintained, there are no prisons or constant bases of operations where to trial prisoners or even keep them.
Back then, prisoners were either released or shot depending on the conditions and the severity of their transgression. Own troops were sent to punishment battalions, or shot, again depending on their transgression.
Nothing else was possible in the conditions of guerrilla warfare with a dictatorial government proven to torture and kill anyone that oppose them.
I would advise you not to paid heed to the many efforts made to dehumanize Guevara as a cold killer that murdered people just because he liked it.
If that were the case, he had plenty opportunity to do that before, during and after the Cuban Revolutionary struggle, and it does not account for his forays into the economy, his leading by example of values he held dear (such as voluntary extra work or not eating before or separate any of his men, for example), nor does it account for his efforts on understanding the situation of many American and African countries before he cristalized on his own convictions on how to attack the social problems that afflicted said nations.
A killer does not do what Che did. A revolutionary kills by necessity or conviction, not pleasure.
Keep that in mind and always check your sources regarding figures such as Guevara: many, many people has interest in you seeing him as a monster.
