Auto news on Youtube Sep 4 2018

over the last several years we have really focused our efforts on readiness

for any contingency needed I'm really proud to be a part of the US Army

Pacific team it's the Army's largest service component command

it's a vast area of the Pacific. 16 time zones with 36 countries and 24 of

36 mega cities in the world are growing in the Pacific it's also interesting

seven of the ten largest armies in the world are in the Pacific

it is a vast region there is the we call it the tyranny of distance and it hasn't

changed that much when you look sometimes you think modern technology

can shrink that tyranny of distance but actually if you look at a ship in World

War II it maybe took 28 to 30 days to sail from the west coast. It takes 26 to 28

today so a couple days earlier still a long ways to go we know now aircraft can

get places quicker but we don't have as many of them so there are challenges so

it's a it's a vast region the other interesting fact in the Pacific we have

seven alliances in the world as a nation United States five of the seven are in

the Pacific. Alliance with Korea, Japan, Philippines,

Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, those alliances are key five of the

seven in the Pacific and obviously you're going to do the most with your

alliance partners and if for example if you look in my 30-plus years dealing

with the forces in Korea I've never seen us closer it's just an ironclad relationship

in the past we've had the luxury of maybe six eight months to

build up forces it's not gonna be that way in the future and they have to be

ready to fight tonight what we have and ready to go I feel very confident right

now as I said, pray for peace I hope we don't have but if we're needed I could

look those parents in the eye and we have really focused readiness that folks

are trained and ready for whatever contingency is required.

on the peninsula we've shifted over the years and that probably about the six years ago the

U.S. was totally in the lead on the peninsula and ROK Army forces would

follow and ROK military well it shifted the ROKs are in the lead and they have

a tremendous army, tremendous military that combined effort is a huge advantage

you know we're better together but when you have folks are working together

daily and then a crisis occurs guess what it's they know what to do you don't

have to form a relationship in the crisis it's too late so but well before

the crisis you're working together in a daily basis as a combined division

that's going to lead to victory should somebody be stupid enough to

challenge us.

'Crazy Rich Asians' Becomes Most Successful U.S. Studio Rom-Com in 9 Years | THR News - Duration: 1:47.

'Crazy Rich Asians' has become the most successful Hollywood studio romantic comedy

in nearly a decade at the North American box office. The Jon M. Chu directed flick

finished the Labor Day long weekend with an estimated total of $117 million, beating out

the $110.2 million earned domestically by Amy Schumer's 2015 pic 'Trainwreck.'

Since its debut in mid-August, 'Crazy Rich Asians' has continued to defy the overall

comedy slump gripping the U.S. box office for the past several years and boasts the top

showing for a rom-com since Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds' 'The Proposal'

earned $164 million in North America in 2009, not adjusted for inflation.

The $30 million movie, along with the shark pic 'The Meg' and the Tom Cruise blockbuster

'Mission: Impossible — Fallout,' also helped to give the box-office a better than expected

August, with the month being up nearly 30 percent over the same time frame in 2017.

Also over the Labor Day frame, 'Crazy Rich Asians' eclipsed the 2017 summer box office

hit 'Girls Trip' domestically to become the most successful live-action comedy in

at least two years, regardless of genre. 'Girls Trip' earned $140 million globally

while 'Crazy Rich Asians,' which is still early in its foreign run, has already grossed

$136.9 million to date at the worldwide box office.

The critically acclaimed movie - which is the first Hollywood studio film to feature an

all-Westernized Asian-American cast since 1993's 'The Joy Luck Club' - is appealing

to an ethnically diverse audience and has enjoyed a stellar hold and topped the chart

for three consecutive weekends. Warner Bros. Pictures is already looking ahead to a

sequel to the groundbreaking rom-com which stars Constance Wu,

Henry Golding, MIchelle Yeh and Awkwafina.

South Korea, U.S. disclose revised clauses of KORUS FTA - Duration: 2:31.

The revision clauses of the South Korea-U.S. free trade deal is now made public.

Now all that's left is for the National Assembly to ratify the changes, which the government

wants done by early next year.

The big question is... how will the latest result impact the local economy.

To delve deeper our Ko Roon-hee turned to an expert on the matter.

The full text of the KORUS FTA amendment that was agreed upon by Seoul and Washington in

March has been disclosed online.

South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy explained that no changes have

been made to the negotiation results that were previously revealed.

Under the revised agreement,... the U.S. will extend the length of tariffs on imports of

Korean pickup trucks by another 20 years to the year 2041.

The agreement also increases the number of vehicles that American carmakers can export

to 50-thousand vehicles per year, up from 25-thousand vehicles.

Those vehicles do not have to meet Korean safety standards as long as they meet U.S.

safety standards

An economic expert says this will not only hurt the automakers but also the overall industry...because

many firms had been preparing to enter the profitable pickup truck market.

"There are many subcontractors in the auto industry.

Some companies make components that go inside the cars.

Many will shoulder a heavy financial burden and some might even need to stop factory operations."

The two sides also agreed to make revisions to the investor-state dispute settlement system...

under which investors can sue countries for alleged discriminatory practices.

The changes will prevent the overuse of suits and protect the governments' authority.

It also includes clauses to improve the transparency of anti-dumping and countervailing duties

imposed by the U.S.

Although some believe this won't change the trade pattern between the two countries because

the revision applies to only few sectors, the expert says there are other things to

look out for.

"We should all remember that FTA does not protect South Korea from Section 232 Investigations...or

any other U.S. trade protectionist measures.

Local authorities should come up with solutions to protect local industries."

"Meanwhile..

South Korea's trade ministry said it will collect public opinion on the revised clauses

until next Monday…. before sending the revisions to parliament for approval.

Ko Roon-hee, Arirang News."

South Korea, U.S. disclose revised clauses of KORUS FTA - Duration: 1:42.

The revision clauses of the South Korea-U.S. free trade deal have been made public.

The South Korean government plans to conclude all necessary steps before submitting the

amendment to the National Assembly by early next year.

Kim Hyo-sun starts us off.

The full text of the KORUS FTA amendment that was agreed upon by Seoul and Washington in

March has been disclosed online.

South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy explained that no changes have

been made to the negotiation results that were previously revealed,... adding it will

collect public opinion on the revised clauses until next Monday,... in accordance to the

country's trade law.

Under the revised agreement,... the U.S. will extend tariffs on imports of Korean pickup

trucks by another 20 years to the year 2041.

Seoul made it clear in the amendment that safeguard measures be made to prevent potential

abuse of the arbitration procedures by multinational companies in accordance to the investor-state

dispute settlement system.

It also includes clauses to improve transparency of anti-dumping and countervailing duties

imposed by the U.S.

The ministry now aims to complete all necessary procedures to have the National Assembly ratify

the amendment by end of this year.

"We can carry out the necessary steps leading up to the signing of the amendment, but its

ratification is the National Assembly's responsibility.

Therefore, we hope lawmakers can swiftly and smoothly ratify the amendment."

It remains to be seen whether the revised trade pact can improve trade conditions with

the U.S. as promised by the South Korean government.

Mauritius wants Chagos Islands, hosting US air base, back from UK - Duration: 3:34.

Mauritius wants Chagos Islands, hosting US air base, back from UK

Mauritius wants Chagos Islands, hosting US air base, back from UK.

The legality of Britain's claim to the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean, which house a major US military base, will be considered by the International Court of Justice on Monday when it starts a week of hearings.

Britain has overseen the islands since 1814 and in 1965 detached the Chagos Islands from Mauritius, then a British colony, which became independent three years later.

Britain went on to lease the Chagos Islands' biggest island, Diego Garcia, to the United States in 1966, paving the way for construction of an air base that required the forced removal of around 1,500 people.

Mauritius has said it was unfairly pressured to cede control of the islands during the negotiations, and had agreed only to their temporary use for military purposes.

Mauritius petitioned the United Nations for an International Court of Justice opinion on the legality of Britain's possession of the islands just south of the Maldives.

Britain and the United States opposed the demand, but were voted down by the UN general assembly.

Britain is expected to argue that Mauritius is trying to improperly use the International Court of Justice or "World Court" to settle a bilateral dispute.

More than 20 interested parties, including the United States and the African Union, have asked to take part in the hearings.

"These things come together now in a combination of historical accident and intense political and popular interest in questions of colonial legacy," international law expert Geoff Gordon of the Asser Institute in The Hague said.

A combination of historical accident and intense political and popular interest in questions of colonial legacy International law expert Geoff Gordon The World Court will ultimately issue only an "advisory opinion" on the case, but opinions by the United Nations' highest court can carry significant weight in international law.

The people displaced from the Chagos Island have already lobbied to be able to return.

But in 2016, Britain's foreign ministry extended Diego Garcia's lease until 2036 and declared the expelled islanders would not be allowed to return.

The people from Chagos were originally moved to nearby Mauritius and the Seychelles and effectively barred from returning.

Many eventually settled in southern England.

Roseanne Just Announced She's Leaving The U.S. And It's Sure To Tick Off Every Liberal - Duration: 3:45.

Roseanne Just Announced She's Leaving The U.S.

And It's Sure To Tick Off Every Liberal

This past week the embattled Roseanne Barr sat down for a new podcast with Rabbi Shmuley

Boteach.

During the interview, she confirmed that she "cut a record" in Nashville and is already

well on her way working on a new script for another sitcom.

But perhaps the best part of the interview was when she was asked about the show that

is replacing the one of her namesake, "The Conners" that is debuting in the fall.

She says she will be far away in order to avoid seeing it.

And by "far away" she means in Israel.

"I have an opportunity to go to Israel for a few months and study with my favorite teachers

over there, and that's where I'm going to go and probably move somewhere there and

study with my favorite teachers," the actress said in a new podcast with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach.

This has been only the latest of many such appearances with the rabbi.

"I have saved a few pennies and I'm so lucky I can go…and study with any rabbi

that I can ask to teach me, and it's my great joy and privilege to be a Jewish woman."

Barr did say she wishes no ill will on anyone still associated with the show.

"I'm not going to curse it or bless it," she said.

"I'm staying neutral.

That's what I do.

I'm staying neutral.

I'm staying away from it.

Not wishing bad on anyone and I don't wish good for my enemies.

I don't.

I can't.

I just stay neutral.

That's what I gotta do.

I have some mental health issues of depression and stuff.

I got to stay in the middle or I'll go dark, and I don't want to go dark again.

I've done it.

After all, I was married to Tom Arnold.

Ha ha."

Barr did say she didn't want to watch the show.

Or even read or hear any commentary surrounding it because she predicts the pundits will write

that she was never good anyways and that they are glad she's gone.

This would tempt her to respond and things won't end well again.

"I'll call Elon Musk and tell himself to fuck himself or something and then I'll

go to jail.

I can't stop myself.

Once I go dark — I'd rather stay light.

I don't like Hollywood.

I'm leaving California because I'm sure it's going to fall into the sea soon,"

she added.

Later in the interview, she revealed that she actually went to Nashville to cut a record

as she confirmed that she has always dreamed of being a singer, "I'm singing and getting

better," she said.

"I'm not great, or even good, but I'm better."

As far as her the whole ordeal with the liberal ABC, her worst regret is apologizing for the

tweet.

"My friends told me at the beginning, 'Oh my god, you made a fatal mistake, and that

is you apologized to the left and once you apologize they never forgive, they just try

to beat you down until you don't exist,'" she said, adding: "It's just sad."

She continued: "I should never have said I'm sorry in their world.

In my world, I had to because I was sorry.

For crying out loud, I was sorry.

People were so angry and, I have to say, a little bit ill-informed about me that they

would put me in the same box where they have people who call for the death of all Jews

and want to enslave all black people — real racists that actually exist.

They put me in this box with them, and how do they think that's going to affect me?

They don't, and they're under mind control."

She went on: "Maybe there's some things you guys don't know because it doesn't

evoke feeling in you but it's actually fact, and facts matter.

People have got to stick to science, scientific fact, logic, data, proof, numbers — people

have got to go for that and not emotions.

This is an unprecedented period in American history.

Get the facts.

Arm yourself with them."

Several celebrities had threatened to move out of the country (but didn't) if Trump

won.

Barbra Streisand was one of them.

Does Israel Run US Foreign Policy? | MIC 16 - Duration: 4:15.

Hey there.

Today we're going to ask a very important question.

Is US Foreign Policy controlled by Israel?

This theory gets a lot of play.

I'd say at least once a day, often multiple times a day, somebody in my YouTube comments

posts some variation of this theory.

Sometimes it's advanced in a rational way, but more often it's put in belligerent anti-semitic

terms.

I get these comments so often that I've put together a Medium post on Israel and Antisemitism

that I post rather than responding to each comment individually.

I think it's very worth reading if you're interested, I'll put a link in the description

below.

To be clear, no, US foreign policy is not a Zionist plot, Netanhayu is not calling the

shots, and the US government is not doing the bidding of the sinister puppet masters

at AIPAC.

Though I see why people get this impression.

As I've said before I'm not ready to fully dive in to the issue of Israel and Palestine

just yet.

I'm conflicted and I need to do a lot more reading.

But it's blindingly obvious that Israel is a source of instability in the Middle East.

I support Israel and its continued existence, but it's clear that if it wasn't there,

the Middle East would be a much healthier place.

Every crappy Middle Eastern ruler for the past 70 years has used Israel as an excuse

to abuse their own people.

So people wonder why the United States is so committed to supporting Israel.

Doesn't it make getting MIddle East oil harder?

People see this and assume that Israel's hardline leaders must be running the show.

They're not.

It's the complete opposite in fact.

There are many, many reasons why the US supports Israel so firmly, that I hope to get into

eventually, but at the end of the day it's about money, pure and simple.

Israel's hardline leadership makes a ton of money for US investors and workers.

This is about what I call the metastasized Military Industrial Complex.

It's not about just the iron triangle between congressmen, military contractors and the

Pentagon anymore.

I recommend you watch our full series on the topic.

Put briefly, this complex has spread like a cancer over the past 75 years.

There are now tens or perhaps hundreds of thousands of people across the US and the

world whose livelihoods depend on the US defense department.

This decades old project of war socialism is the biggest jobs program in world history.

And it all depends on instability.

If you know this 75 year history, then the true role of Israel's current leadership

becomes very clear.

They are just one part of a much longer term project.

Ask yourself, what was the Zionist interest in the US destruction of South East Asia in

the 1960s and 1970s?

What was the Zionist interest in the CIA's attempt to destroy Latin American Democracy

in the 1970s and 1980s?

Where is the Zionist interest in the Pentagon's accelerating militarization of Africa today?

Where is the Zionist interest in creating a Saudi and Emirati empire in Yemen?

The answer to all these questions is that there isn't one.

The only through line to US foreign policy is feeding the Military Industrial Complex.

We need instability to feed the beast with outsize military budgets.

Israel's hardline leadership is an important part of this strategy, but they're not calling

the shots.

They're just the latest in a long line of stooges that help us do the job.

It's not Israel's interests that are being served here.

Turning Israel's neighbors into smoking ruins does not serve the long-term health

and stability of the Zionist project.

Those countries will recover eventually, just as Lebanon did, and it's not like they're

going to have Israel's best interests at heart when they do.

The current Israeli leadership works for the US government, not the other way around.

What's at stake in the U.S. midterm elections? - Duration: 3:00.

The U.S. midterm elections don't usually

get a whole lot of attention outside of

the country. But this year is different

because whatever happens in November

will be seen as a referendum on Donald

Trump. Right now, Republicans have the

majority in both the House of

Representatives and the Senate. But

control of Congress is up for grabs. If

nothing changes it means Americans like

what they have now and they want more of

it. But if Democrats take control of

either house there could be some major

changes. For starters pretty much any

Republican legislation would be dead on

arrival and expect more investigations

into allegations of corruption Russia

and Trump's businesses. So how do the

midterms work? Let's start with the House.

Members serve a two-year term, so every

seat is up for grabs. Right now

Republicans have 236 out of 435 seats.

Democrats have 193 and six are vacant.

One reason Democrats are optimistic: more

than 40 Republicans aren't running again,

including House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Flipping the house is rare. In fact in

the last 25 years, it's only happened

three times. In 1994 back when Bill

Clinton was president Democrats lost the

house. In 2006, it flipped back, partly

because of anger with then-President

George W Bush. In 2010, the Tea Party wave

handed control back to the

Republicans, and they have kept it ever

since. What do those three flips have in

common? Each favoured the party not in The

White House.

The Senate works differently. There are

100 senators, two for each state.

Republicans have control of the Senate

by a paper-thin margin. But it's pretty

likely they'll still have control come

November. Each senator serves a six-year

term and elections are staggered - they

happen every two years. So about a third

of the Senate is up for re-election.

This year, 35 seats are in play. 26 are

held by Democrats or left-leaning

independents. 9 are held by Republicans.

So the basic math favours Republicans and

10 of those Democrats are running in

states that Trump won and is still

popular. So the Senate changing hands

could be a long shot. But it's not just

Congress that could change. There are 36

governorships up for grabs and more

than 6,000 members of state

legislatures will be elected. A record

number of women are running for office,

most of them Democrats. So the results

could be historic. Another thing to watch

for in all of this is turnout.

Traditionally more Republicans show up

to vote for the midterms than Democrats.

Opposition to Donald Trump could change

that or not and then there are concerns

about Russia interfering in the election.

All of this while the tone is already

nasty on both sides and the country is

increasingly divided.
