People still view fashion as something intimidating.
People ask me a lot,
"What kind of woman is BYO specifically for?"
My name is Tommy Ambiyo Tedji.
I'm the designer of the brand BYO.
I established BYO in 2010.
It combines two things that I like,
purses, accessories and science fiction.
I've been into design since college.
Because I've studied Industrial Design
for 4 years, it prioritized functionality.
So I found my niche.
When I was in college,
I realised that I was more interested in clothing.
That's how BYO was born.
Every collection was inspired by different things
and had various background stories.
Back in 2014,
we had our first collection named "Alchemy."
At first we tried to make something
that had a strong science fiction element.
That was the beginning of our partnership with the craftsmen.
Plaited in a traditional style,
with the goal of looking futuristic.
It took a year to execute the idea.
We tried to find the aesthetic elements
using industrial and unusual materials.
When I was a kid, because I watched Jurassic Park
and Independence Day.
I became obsessed with science fiction.
I searched for materials that were unconventional.
Something that wasn't common in the fashion industry.
I did a research in Glodok for industrial materials.
I tried to find something glossy.
I watched a really good interview once.
Yohji Yamamoto at his summer fashion show.
I also went through a similar phase.
A phase where I idolized someone, a specific designer.
My work was continuously influenced by him.
As time passed, I finally found my own character.
If there's a will to create something original, it will be original.
You have to have pride in your work.
Pride will never come if you keep copying someone.
My name is Banu, from Seeds Motion.
I'm the creative director
This is our office in Bandung.
Seeds Motion focuses on multimedia.
We do animation, films, and video mapping.
This month we are working on a project with JD.ID.
Making a 3D animation.
Welcome!
This is Reza, he's also a creative director.
These two are our 3D artists.
We call him Uncle 3D,
and this is Salma.
This is one of the scenes for the JD.ID project.
We're putting a Bajaj into a bag.
This is Bintang, our music director.
This is Rio, he's the producer for the JD.ID project.
These are our animators.
We have Fajar, Adi, and Genta.
The Seeds Motion logo is in the shape of electricity because
we are nothing without it.
We need electricity for everything.
-Hi, Tommy. -Hi, Banu.
How are you?
We want to know the story of how you created such a unique aesthetic.
It's a breakthrough compared to other handbags in the market.
Please tell us how you found the courage
and how did people react to seeing such a different product?
Before BYO launched, I was very nervous.
But thank God, after the launch
we sold five handbags online within the first day.
And I was like, "Ok, this is a good sign."
Two years of hardwork finally paid off.
People loved it.
And the reviews were great as well.
From this animation we hope that people can see
making something original is a good thing.
And you need to be mentally strong.
We just finished recording voice-overs.
Soon we're working on the mouth-syncing.
It's done actually, we can show the demo later.
The hair looks the same right? It's parted that way.
Once upon a time, in the craftsmen's world.
There was an interesting tale of originality.
It's kind of boring making the same thing over and over again.
"Something Original!"
Wow! What is that?
Why is that different?
Who made it?
- What is that? - Such a smarty pants.
Don't be pretentious!
You're not allowed to make this kind of thing.
Wait a second!
I'll show you that my craftmanship is high quality.
This bag can carry everything!
And I guarantee! Nothing will be damaged.
Isn't it great?
My bag is really good quality.
Always believe in yourself.
Don't be afraid of what others say.
With hard work, we can achieve everything we want.
