President Trump is now on the third leg of his five-nation tour of Asia.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made sure Trump enjoyed his first night in Beijing with a

tour and banquet at China's historic imperial palace, the Forbidden City.

They started the second day of Trump's three-day visit,... with a welcoming ceremony... and

now they're getting down to some business.

For more, we have our Oh Jung-hee on the line...

Jung-hee, what's the latest?

Good afternoon, Daeun.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting this morning.

During the opening remarks, President Trump said the time he had with President Xi last

night was excellent,... and that they were able to talk about the North Korea issue as

well as trade.

He added that China and the U.S. have the capacity to solve global problems if they

work together.

Their bilateral talks were followed by a meeting with the two countries' business leaders.

Here, President Xi said China's investment in the U.S. is rising rapidly, creating over

140-thousand jobs for the local people.

He also confirmed that Chinese companies will sign commercial contracts worth over 250 billion

U.S. dollars,... which reflects the "win-win nature" of U.S.-China economic relations.

In case of President Trump, he did not forget to mention North Korea at this meeting.

He said, to have prosperity, security has to come first,... and that China and the U.S.

stand (quote) "much on the same plane," especially in regards to North Korea's nuclear and missile

development.

He added that China can solve this issue very easily and quickly,... and expressed appreciation

to his Chinese counterpart for restricting trade with Pyongyang and cutting off all banking

ties.

Those were the remarks from the two countries' business exchange meeting,... and more are

to come during their joint news conference, which is expected to be held in less than

30 minutes, if everything goes as scheduled.

I will make sure to come back with more updates, Daeun.

Elite US Golf Club Just Sent Nasty Message To Trump – Responds With Something Better - Duration: 5:58.

President Donald Trump is a member of the elite Winged Foot Golf Club in Westchester

New York.

It's now being reported that members have had to come out swinging because the club

is refusing to honor him by putting up an official portrait of the President.

Insiders report that the Republican members amongst the 800 total members of the exclusive

golf club which charges as much as $200,000 in initiation fees have been lobbying to put

up a portrait of President Trump inside Winged Foot's stone clubhouse.

But opponents are refusing to do so.

One insider went on to state that President Donald Trump has been a member since 1969

and there is a big push to honor him at the club.

He later also added that all members should be proud that the president of the United

States is a current member of Winged Foot, "It is prestigious to have him here."

But the senior club management thinks otherwise.

The club was contacted for an official statement on the matter but there has been no reply

as of yet.

Although there is speculation that the decision not to honor President Trump is either to

avoid driving a wedge between members, some of which include many prominent New York law

firm partners and investment bankers who are left-leaning in political views, or a financial

move so as not to offend any charities or organizations that may wish to hold events

there.

President Trump was quick to respond to the fact that he has his own golf courses that

people would prefer to go to over this one who showed disrespect to our commander in

chief.

Trump Golf Links Ferry Point

Course Overview

Trump Golf Links Ferry Point is a 222-acre parcel in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx,

located on the east side of the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, which crosses the East River and connects

the Bronx with the borough of Queens.

It's bordered by housing to the east, while the western boundary is lined by the Hutchinson

River Parkway, and the course can be easily accessed from all of New York City's boroughs.

The 7,400-yard Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, designed in consultation with Sanford

Design, will be operated by the Trump Golf team and will be a part of the global golf

portfolio of native New Yorker and avid golfer Donald Trump.

Scheduled to open to the public in 2015, with some programming—primarily junior golf—available

in the summer 2014, Ferry Point will offer spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline

from most of its 18 holes.

Ferry Point will be a nearly treeless, Irish links-style course, designed to look mature

from its early years and featuring tall, flowing native grasses and dunes with teeing grounds

that rise as high as 55 feet above grade.

"I think Ferry Point will be a tremendous golf experience," Nicklaus said.

"I've been asked to create something that is world-class, a source of pride for New

York City, and if they wanted to hold a national or international event, a course that will

be a strong golf course from the back tees.

Most important, the course needs to service the needs of those in the Metropolitan New

York area who hopefully will play Ferry Point.

"Ferry Point was created to be a unique public golf experience and it is our collective

hope that the golf course will add to New York City's global reputation, enhance New

York's reputation for quality golf, and give the proud residents of New York City

a place to play and call home.

Donald Trump has a deep-rooted love for New York City and he deserves a great deal of

credit for getting Ferry Point to the finish line and for delivering it to the golfers

and golf fans of New York."

The golf experience at Ferry Point will not only be a uniquely special one, with spectacular

views and aesthetics, its strength will be the strategy and shot values integrated by

Nicklaus, the world's preeminent course designer.

The Golden Bear, recognized as history's greatest golfer, has been involved in the

design of nearly 300 golf courses worldwide.

His renowned Nicklaus Design firm has created more than 380 golf courses in 36 countries

and 39 states.

More than 100 Nicklaus Design golf courses have hosted a combined total of more than

750 professional tournaments or significant national championships.

"If you are going to have a golf course that has the ability to host a high-profile

national or international event, you have to have some spice in it," Nicklaus added.

"Our goal as a public golf course is to have it play well on a daily basis and serve

the needs of those golfers who visit Ferry Point.

But when asked to host an event, we believe we have the ability to move to the back tees,

hide the pins, and create a test of golf fitting of any tournament or championship."

The course is part of a city-funded redevelopment project.

The park was originally built during the construction of the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge completed in

1939, and for two decades after World War II, Ferry Point was used as a landfill.

The Jack Nicklaus-designed course will be the first championship-level course in New

York City and will help meet the high demand for golf in the metropolitan area, as the

city's 13 existing municipal golf courses typically boast full tee sheets.

Are you freaking kidding me?

Now the picture of our president it offensive?

Many of us were very offended having to look at former president Barack Hussein Obama's

picture for 8 long and dark years, but we survived.

The left will survive seeing Trump's picture for 7 more years.

World War 3: US ready to STRIKE North Korea after years of NUCLEAR BLACKMAIL - Duration: 2:37.

World War 3: US ready to STRIKE North Korea after years of NUCLEAR BLACKMAIL

blackmailed the United States for decades with continuous threats of nuclear strikes on the US because of ineffective Presidents.

Mr Gorka said Pyongyang will now have to decide whether to continue to pursue its plans toward World War 3 or accept to negotiate with US President Donald Trump.

Speaking to , the former Trump adviser said: This is something that has been festering for decades, facilitated by the Clinton Administration and made even worse under Obama.

It was nuclear blackmail on a global scale but it's now got to a point where we have a new Commander-in-Chief, Donald Trump, who said 'enough is enough!' We have a secretary of Defence, General Mattis, who said 'we will destroy you' meaning the regime of the North.

So this is decision time for Pyongyang. North Korea has ignored international condemnation and continued its efforts to push forward and create a deadly arsenal of nuclear weapons.

President has labelled North Korea a "menace threatening the world with nuclear devastation" during his latest speech in Seoul.

Mr Trump attacked the regime of despot leader Kim Jong-un and called on all responsible nations to unite to halt the nuclear threat from the rogue state.

The US President warned North Korea against making a fatal miscalculation as fears of World War 3 continue to soar.

Mr Trump is expected to use his two-day visit to Bejing to convince President Xi Jinping to lend his support in restraining North Korea, a close ally to.

Experts fear Kim could make his biggest statement yet by firing the so-called "Juche bird" – a fearful H-bomb – during Mr Trump's visit to Asia.

Presidents of U.S., China hold summit talks - Duration: 2:30.

President Trump is now on the third leg of his five-nation tour of Asia.

China's Xi Jinping is making sure Trump gets the red carpet treatment,... lavishing him

with a palace treat on Wednesday evening.

But the two leaders are getting down to business today, with summit talks being held this morning.

Oh Jung-hee reports.

The summit talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping started

Thursday morning.

While specific details haven't been released as of yet,...

U.S. officials have said... Trump will press Xi to tighten the screws on Pyongyang... by

fully enforcing international sanctions... such as limits on oil exports, coal imports

and financial transactions.

(Chinese) "China is close to running out of measures

to pressure North Korea.

So, I think China may try to compromise... by somewhat stepping up the sanctions measures.

But that would be still far from what Trump expects."

In terms of trade, Trump is expected to have brought up the same issues that he had with

his South Korean and Japanese counterparts.

(English) "We've seen great growth and trade between

our two countries, but there are some concerns about having more reciprocity and reducing

the balance of payments deficit between the United States and China."

According to Bloomberg,... the White House expects to announce upwards of $250 billion

in business deals in China this week.

Many of the deals are expected be in the form of non-binding memorandums of understanding,

not contracts... and mostly concentrated in the energy sector.

Also to watch for is how the two leaders have redefined their partnership... and assured

stability in bilateral relations.

China's state-owned People's Daily reports... that Beijing aims to construct a "cooperative

and mutually profitable relationship" with Washington.

Trump landed in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon.

This is his first visit to China since taking office... as well as the first state visit

Xi has received... since the end of the 19th Chinese Party Congress.

Chinese diplomatic officials have been stressing that Trump will receive a "state-visit-plus"

treatment, with both formal and informal get-togethers arranged.

The two presidents spent their first night at China's historical imperial palace, the

Forbidden City,... drinking tea, watching traditional Peking Opera,... and enjoying

a special banquet.

World War 3: North Korea sparks attack warning siren tests in US - Duration: 4:17.

World War 3: North Korea sparks attack warning siren tests in US

The US state already has warnings for hurricanes, tsunamis and earthquakes, but is adding an "attack warning" to the list.

From 1 December a 50 second 'wavering' attack siren will be added to the natural disaster test alert.  This attack warning was last used during the Cold War in the 1980s.

If used as an actual warning, it would signal the need for residents to hide immediately.

Hawaii Emergency Management Administrator Vern Miyagi said: You cant take time to call your wife, your kids, your husband to pick them up and try to find a shelter.  There is no time for that. Officials in the paradise islands have said an attack is unlikely, but something they cannot ignore.

Mr Miyagi said: "As Hawaii prepared for this over the last couple of months, we've been getting inquiries from other states, working with Guam also, but (also), 'What are you guys doing? Why are you doing this?.

"And like I said, this is because there was an elephant in the room, and we have to address it." North Korea exploded a nuclear device on September 3 that may have yielded 250 kilotons.

The Hiroshima blast was about 15 kilotons. The Hawaii Emergency Management unveiled a sample of the 'wavering siren' at a preparedness presentation on Saturday.

Hawaii has been depicted as a target by North Korea, but Mr Miyagi thinks a strike on Hawaii is unlikely.

He said: "He has a limited amount of missiles, and there are many, many closer-in targets that he is guaranteed of hitting, such as Japan and South Korea and even the continental United States.

If he heads it that way, he'll hit something. "Hawaii is a very tiny target.

Guam is a very tiny target for him." The island is working on a comprehensive emergency plan. Pamphlets are being revamped and a further warning system for mobile phones is being created. .

Residents have also been told to have 14 days of emergency supplies in their homes, rather than the seven that can suffice in case of a hurricane or other natural disaster.

Mr Miyagi predicts Hawaii's residents will only have 15 minutes to seek shelter once Pyongyang fire a rocket.

He said: Pacific Command would take about five minutes to characterise a launch, where the missile is going, which means the population would have about 15 minutes to take shelter. Its not much time at all.

But it is enough time to give yourself a chance to survive. North Korea have tested a number of ballistic missiles over the past few years and some western experts fear that they have the range to strike both Hawaii and Alaska.  It comes as US President Donald Trump arrived in China seeking help to rein in North Korea, telling the reclusive states leader Kim Jong-un he was putting his country in grave danger by developing nuclear weapons.

World War 3: Trump official blasts North Korea's response to US attempts to open talks - Duration: 3:40.

World War 3: Trump official blasts North Korea's response to US attempts to open talks

US President Donald Trump suggested Kim Jong-un should come to the negotiating table to try to thrash out a deal on its weapons programme at a press conference during his 12-day tour of Asia.

But there is little to suggest the reclusive regime is keen on taking up the US offer of talks.

The White House official said: I think that our administration has made clear from the start that the door is open to dialogue and efforts to sort of probe have been rather discouraging.

They have shown very little sign that theyre interested in talking."   .

The idea of diplomatic talks was first floated in September when US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Washington was probing to see if Pyongyang was interested in talks on denuclearisation.

With tensions at boiling point and rhetoric between the two sides running high, Mr Trump said Mr Tillerson was wasting his time trying to instigate talks with Kim.

But the US President struck a much softer tone in Seoul on Tuesday when he reigned in the incendiary language and instead said he believed Pyongyang should make a deal on its nuclear weapons programme for its people and all of humanity.  The White House official said Mr Trump believed North Korea should first reduce the threats and end provocations before moving towards sincere steps to ultimately denuclearise.

But he added: "I think North Korea has shown that they are the ones that are putting forward preconditions.

They are the ones who have been saying theyre unwilling to talk about nuclear weapons - that thats not on the table.  "Well thats a nonstarter for us. Mr Trump, who is now in China, plans to enlist Beijings commitment to enforce economic sanctions against Pyongyang.

If successful Mr Trump will have influenced North Koreas only ally.   .

The official said: "I think that if you look at the activity across that border, certainly there is still some trade taking place. There is still some financial links that exist that should not under the Security Council resolutions.

China is doing much more than its ever done in the past but its not the time for complacency or for allowing people to slip through loopholes and for a lot of that residual activity to continue.

We know that some of that activity is continuing, and were going to work closely with the Chinese to identify that activity and end it.".

Trump has FIVE US aircraft carriers on standby ready for North Korea strike TODAY - Duration: 3:33.

Trump has FIVE US aircraft carriers on standby ready for North Korea strike TODAY

A strike group of US warships has been dispatched within strike range of North Korea amid Trump's 13-day visit to the Pacific-Asia region.

Three colossal aircraft carriers – the USS Nimitz, USS Ronald Reagan and USS Theodore Roosevelt – have been operating in the region since last month.

Another two aircraft carriers – the USS John C Stennis and USS Carl Vinson – are currently on standby off the west coast of the US.

Worldwide, seven out of 11 US aircraft carriers are being used simultaneously on military missions for the first time in years.

General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the joint chiefs, said the deployment of three of these 10,000 tonne warships show the strength of the US Navy. "These three carriers are not there specifically targeting North Korea," he said.

"This is a routine demonstration of our commitment to the region." The US President arrived in China today after sending a message to North Korea's dictator Kim Jong-un in a fiery speech in South Korea.

In a joint speech with South Korean president Moon Jae-in on Tuesday, Trump reminded Kim that the aircraft carriers and a nuclear submarine were in the region.

Speaking in Seoul, he said he hoped the military pressure would encourage Kim to "come to the table and make a deal".

North Korean state-owned media accused Trump of flying to the region to "light the fuse for a nuclear war". The communist state has tested Trump's patience since he took office by testing nuclear weapons and firing ballistic missiles.

In a second explosive speech at South Koreas National Assembly yesterday, Trump issued a direct warning to Kim. The weapons you are acquiring are not making you safer, they are putting your regime in grave danger," he said.

"Every step you take down this dark path increases the peril you face.".

In a stinging insult of his totalitarian regime, Trump described North Korea as "a hell no one deserves". Striking an unusually restrained tone, Trump refrained from calling Kim "little rocket man", but warned him "not to underestimate" the US.

Trump appeared to be more optimistic about finding a diplomatic solution to the North Korea crisis ahead of his meeting with Chinese president, Xi Jinping.

Lavrov on Putin - Trump Meeting: U.S. Congress Prevents Trump From Reaching Agreements With Russia - Duration: 3:34.

Will President of Russia Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump hold a full-scale meeting, or will they meet on the go?

As I said, we have heard what President Trump said about his plans to have a meeting with the President of Russia.

Vladimir Putin is ready for this, the Americans are aware of it, and our protocol departments are keeping in touch.

When our leaders' schedules are coordinated, you will be told about it.

Will you meet with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson?

As far as I know, he will only come here with President Trump. Therefore, we will most likely talk during the summit.

What will you talk about?

The subjects on our agendas. Our bilateral relations need major repairs after what Barack Obama's team did to sour them.

The international issues include the Korean Peninsula, the Syrian settlement, Iraq, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,

as well as Ukraine, where a US envoy seems to have become more active, allegedly planning to hold a meeting with Vladislav Surkov, Russian presidential aide, in the next few days.

There are more than enough issues for discussion.

Important statements were made at the first Putin-Trump meeting, but the American side disavowed many of them pretty quickly. Can the same happen this time again?

Not that these statements were disavowed. However, President Trump is being prevented from implementing his presidential powers, including cooperation on cybersecurity with Russia.

It is true that during their meeting in Hamburg the two presidents discussed the possibility of resuming cooperation on cybercrime.

We proposed creating a group on cybersecurity, which would also consider the sides' concerns about each other's activities.

President Trump thought this initiative held promise. It was announced that the sides had reached a preliminary agreement.

But the Congress raised a hue and cry over the White House cooperating with Russians who had interfered in this very area, that is, America's cybersecurity, the hacking of the Democratic Party's servers, and much more.

The established facts show that not a single Russian connection has been found.

All the connections that have been found are internal, including at the Democratic National Committee, where an insider interfered with the process and leaked information to the rivals.

Of course, agreements can be reached, but they immediately become an internal political struggle and turn into games aimed at complicating President Trump's life and work.

The Ukrainian authorities have decided that Russian artists must receive permits from Ukraine's security services to tour the country.

I have stopped commenting on what the Ukrainian authorities are doing. It looks as if they themselves no longer understand what they are doing.

US Navy to run rare strike drill in western Pacific as Trump threatens North Korea - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 2:22.

US Navy to run rare strike drill in western Pacific as Trump threatens North Korea

THE US Navy is set to carry out an incredibly rare drill involving three aircraft carriers

in western Pacific – right in the middle of Donald Trump's visit to the region.

The USS Ronald Reagan, USS Nimitz and the USS Theodore Roosevelt will take part in exercises

from Saturday to Tuesday.

The strike group will practice everything from air defence drills, sea surveillance

Rapid cuts to top leadership at State Department raises concern, says former ambassador - Duration: 7:18.

JUDY WOODRUFF: There is new and pointed criticism of the way the U.S. State Department is being

run in the Trump administration.

This time, it comes from a senior diplomat with three decades of experience here and

abroad.

William Brangham has the story.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: "There is simply no denying the warning signs that point to mounting threats

to our institution and to the global leadership that depends on us."

Those are the stark words of Ambassador Barbara Stephenson in a letter she wrote for "The

Foreign Service Journal."

Stephenson rails against what she says is the decapitation of senior leadership within

the State Department, and which she argues could harm America's ability to retain its

role as a global leader.

Over her long career, Barbara Stephenson was U.S. ambassador to Panama and also held senior

postings in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

She currently serves as president of the Foreign Service Association, and she joins me now.

Welcome.

BARBARA STEPHENSON, President, American Foreign Service Association: Thank you so much, William.

It's great to be with you.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Tell me, why did you put this letter out now?

BARBARA STEPHENSON: You know, it came about because a journalist asked us, what's up?

We knew cuts were coming.

That's always been clear, so I should be clear about that.

Secretary Tillerson said we would have 8 percent cuts.

He told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in June that he would cut the Foreign Service

by 4 percent, the civil service by 12 percent.

So, the idea that cuts were coming was not news.

But a journalist said to me, you know, I have been walking through Foggy Bottom.

I have been through four...

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: The State Department office.

BARBARA STEPHENSON: The State Department office.

I have been to four retirement ceremonies there in this last week of September, all

women acting assistant secretaries.

And why is everybody leaving?

Is this a story, or is this just some sort of a weird coincidence?

And so we started to really compile the numbers.

So, we knew cuts were coming, but what was really surprising when we put the numbers

together was how concentrated the cuts are at our very top ranks.

We had five four-stars at the beginning of the year.

So they are called career ambassadors.

We now have two career ambassadors left at the four-star rank.

And then we had 33 at the beginning of the year that were at the three-star rank.

We call them career ministers.

And they're down to 20.

And then we have our two-star ranks were 431 on the day after Labor Day, which is when

the promotions were added in for the year.

And they had fallen to 369, the department told us a few weeks ago.

And we are already tracking another 11 or 12 that we know will be gone by December 1.

So these are 60 percent, 40 percent, 20 percent cuts.

So the cuts are very concentrated among our very top leadership.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Big numbers.

Let me read something from -- you wrote in your letter.

You wrote: "The talent being shown the door now is not only our top talent, but also talent

that cannot be replicated overnight.

The rapid loss of so many senior officers has a serious, immediate and tangible effect

on the capacity of the United States to shape world events."

A couple of things to unpack there.

Why can't they be replicated overnight?

BARBARA STEPHENSON: The Foreign Service is, like the military, an up-or-out system.

You enter...

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: You're promoted, or you're gone.

BARBARA STEPHENSON: You get promoted, or you're gone.

So, we grow people by bringing them in as an entry-level officer.

So, I came in, in 1985 as a little junior officer.

And then, over the course of the years, I moved up through FS2 and FS1, lieutenant colonel

and colonel ranks.

That's how we actually grow senior Foreign Service officers.

And then there's a big cut when we go into getting that very first star to be a counselor

of the Foreign Service.

And only 35, 40 percent make that cut of the officers.

And then it's cut further.

And by the time you get to our three-stars, you're down to, oh, probably 1 percent.

So there's a very serious winnowing that goes on this up-or-out system.

But we grow people by bringing them in at the beginning and actually training them on

how to be diplomats.

We're not alone in this.

The military does it this way.

So does essentially every diplomatic service of every major Western country.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Help me understand why this is going on.

A journalist said to you, is this a coincidence?

You looked at the numbers.

You wrote this very pointed letter.

You clearly don't think this is a coincidence.

Why do you think this is happening?

BARBARA STEPHENSON: Well, I know that there is a stated intention to cut the Foreign Service.

And we actually, as the American Foreign Service Association, do not -- didn't rise up and

object to that in principle.

But the idea of so rapidly cutting our top leadership does, I believe, leave us -- it

leaves us a less strong institution.

And that is just not -- at odds with the stated intent of strengthening the Foreign Service.

There was a decision that was made to dramatically slash promotion numbers.

So, for that one-star or two-star jump, 61 people were moved into the two-star ranks

last year.

This year, that number was cut to 29.

So, there's a conscious decision to dramatically cut these senior promotion numbers.

And that has the effect of thinning the ranks of the senior leadership.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: We reached out to State Department to see if they would respond to

your letter.

They did.

You have seen what they had to say.

And they argue that these freezes, the hiring promotions, those are just temporary.

They say that the retirement numbers are not out of order with historical patterns.

And they argue that you're basically exaggerating the impact that this is going to have on our

ability to do foreign policy.

What do you say to that?

BARBARA STEPHENSON: Well, I don't think it would surprise you that, as a career diplomat,

I believe that what we do is actually really important for Americans from all walks of

life.

When they go overseas to adopt a child or on a mission for a church or to open a business

or to study, they count on the embassy to be home base for them.

So, it's staffed by people like me, who are real Americans.

But I also speak the local language and I know how to get things done in that country.

And I really have their back.

So, I know that I'm valuable to my fellow Americans, but I also know that we are the

keepers of that rules-based order that has made it possible for us to travel and trade

so freely over the post-World War II period.

So, I think that what we to is actually -- it's really important.

And the numbers overall are in the 4 percent range that the secretary talked about.

What I wrote about was the surprising concentration at our very top leadership levels.

That is striking to me.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Last quick question.

The national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, seemed to argue, in justifying these cuts,

that the people who are leaving are people who don't or haven't gotten on board with

the Trump administration's policy.

How true is that?

BARBARA STEPHENSON: That is -- we're career diplomats.

I was appointed ambassador to Panama by George Bush.

When I worked on the Iraq surge, I served President Obama faithfully.

I have served back and forth across my 32-year career.

This is what we're trained to do in the Foreign Service.

It's what we sign up for.

It's what we swear an oath to.

So, that is discouraging to me, and it's not the Foreign Service I know.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Ambassador Barbara Stephenson, thank you very much.

BARBARA STEPHENSON: Thank you, William.

It's great to be here.

Whose side are THEY on? China will back THIS power if US goes to war with North Korea

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un have waged a terrifying war of words this year as nuclear conflict looms over the Korean Peninsula.

Beijing is one of the biggest players in the region, being one of the world's largest economies and having a massive military at its fingertips.

Trump has been pressuring China to take action on North Korea, with the communist powerhouse being one of Kim's only traditional allies.

The US President has arrived in Beijing and due for a critical sit down meeting with President Xi Jinping.  Daily Star Online can now reveal which side China is really on should war come between North Korea and the US.

"If the US is at war with North Korea, then China is at war with the US" Dr Petrov Should the US attack North Korea you can expect China to "rescue" and side with Kim, Korea expert Dr Leonid Petrov told this website.

He said while China values regional stability, it would "immediately" step into a war to support Kim. China has been cracking down on North Korea with sanctions this year, but it has been facing constant pressure to do more from Trump.

This relationship between China and North Korea guarantees any military action on Kim by the US would "end with World War 3 – a nuclear one", Dr Petrov said.

The expert explained China remains in a friendship agreement with North Korea and would step into a war on Kim's behalf.

China sided with the North all the way back in 1950 on the dawn of the Korean War, a conflict which technically never ended and Dr Petrov warned "this could resume at any moment".

He said: "If the US is at war with North Korea, then China is at war with the US." The expert also described Kim's rogue state as a "proxy guard" for the region – warding off US military drills on behalf of both China and Russia.

Dr Petrov told Daily Star Online: "The best thing China can do now is help North Korea to be stable, that is why you can't expect from China to stifle North Korea or push them hard.

"The stability of their own north-eastern region depends on the stability of North Korea." China has reportedly closed its borders with North Korea ahead of Trump's visit in a gesture of good will.

Beijing fears a war erupting with North Korea would send floods of refugees across their eastern frontier with the rogue state.

China is North Korea's oldest ally and the two powers maintain very close ties with trade deals. President Xi reportedly personally hates Kim but has to tolerate him for the sake of the region, an ex-UK diplomat revealed.

Dr Petrov said China knows a conflict would be a "tectonic" shift in the status quo of the region – one that "nobody knows which direction it would go".

The superpower has also been squaring up the US elsewhere in the region, with conflict continuing to brew in the disputed South China Sea.

Relations between China and the US have been strained for years as the Pacific powerhouse ramps up its military power and aggressiveness.

War fears have loomed with North Korea this year as Kim tested scores of missiles capped off with the detonation of an H-bomb.

Dr Petrov said he belives North Korea is "disappointed and disenchanted" with changing US policies between different presidents – which is driving them to work for ICBMs.

He said: "North Korea believes the only that will work now is the demonstration of power." North Korea are feared to be readying the dreaded Juche Bird – a live nuclear missile fired out into the heart of the Pacific.
