The first ladies got to spend some time together on Tuesday,... having afternoon tea time and

discussing Korea's culture and history.

Lee Unshin has more on their brand of diplomacy.

On the day of U.S. President Trump's arrival in Korea, it wasn't just the bilateral summit

between the leaders of Seoul and Washington that took the spotlight.

On Tuesday, the first lady of the U.S., Melania Trump, also made local headlines by engaging

in a rather, different kind of diplomacy; involving sports and gender equality.

While her husband visited Camp Humphreys, the new home of the U.S. Eighth Army outside

Seoul,...Mrs. Trump traveled to the U.S. ambassador's residence in the capital, to attend the launch

event of "Girls Play 2," which aims to encourage girls to be more active and boost opportunities

for them to play sports.

Alongside dozens of school kids and the head of the PyeongChang 2018 organizing committee...the

first lady stressed the valuable skills children can learn through sports, and that girls,

too, love being athletic just like boys.

(English) "As we look forward to the Olympics, I call

on all of us to encourage even more girls to play sports.

Let's give girls and boys equal access to sports facilities, equipment and to cultures.

Let's remind the world girls play too."

She added that the upcoming 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics will provide a platform for

the world to come together under a shared love for sports.

Later in the day, at the presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae, Mrs. Trump sat down with

Korea's first lady, Kim Jung-sook.

The two ladies talked about Korea's culture, history and hopes for many more years of a

prosperous alliance,....over some afternoon tea.

Trump in Korea LIVE: US President demands China and Russia make a CHOICE - it's me or Kim! - Duration: 10:24.

Trump in Korea LIVE: US President demands China and Russia make a CHOICE - it's me or Kim!

President flew into South Korea, the closest he has come to the frontlines of the nuclear standoff with Kim Jong-un's secretive state, on Tuesday saying a solution must be found to the security threat posed by Pyongyang.

Raising fears of the outbreak of all-out World War 3 he said North Korea was "a threat to people of South Korea and people all across the world" and he was prepared to do whatever was necessary to prevent the North Korean dictator from threatening lives.

so needlessly.  He said: "We will together confront North Korea.  "We will be prepared to use the full range of our military capabilities if needs be." Landing at Osan Air Base outside Seoul, the president and First Lady Melania Trump stepped down from Air Force One onto a red carpet as he began a 24-hour visit that could aggravate tensions with.

In recent months, President Trump has criticised South Korea President Moon Jae-in over his support for diplomatic engagement with Pyongyang - something the US President once called appeasement - and has threatened to pull out of a free trade pact between the two countries.

The American leader said the talks would also address trade issues, including South Koreas acquisition of US defence equipment.

He then flew by helicopter to Camp Humphreys, the largest US military base in the country, and met US and South Korean troops, along with President Jae-in.

President Jae-in said he hoped his visit would be a turning point in efforts to defuse tensions over Kims nuclear programme.  The state visit in the South Korean capital was billed as an opportunity for President Trump and Jae-in to present a united front, despite differences over how to confront the depraved regimes nuclear threat, as well as the US leaders complaints over the two countries trade agreements.

Besides vowing to prevent the crackpot dictator from developing nuclear weapons and missiles that can effectively strike the mainland United States, President Trump has also threatened to pull out of a free trade pact between the two countries.

The White House says President Trumps trip is intended to demonstrate US resolve over his hardline approach to the North Korean nuclear and missile threats, but many in the region fear further bellicose presidential rhetoric could increase the potential for a devastating military conflict on the Korean peninsula.

Meeting with military commanders about the North Korea issue, he told reporters: Hopefully that will start working out, and working out so that we create a lot of jobs in the United States which is one of the reasons that Im here.

Ultimately it will all work out, it always works out, it has to work out. He did not elaborate.

President Trump praised president Moon, hailing him for great cooperation, despite their differences.  Pyongyangs recent nuclear and missile tests in defiance of UN resolutions and an exchange of insults between President Trump and Kimhave raised the stakes in the most critical international challenge of the leaders presidency.

The US President was greeted with applause and a few cheers as he and president Moon entered the mess hall at lunch hour.

He is seeking to ratchet up pressure on Pyongyang following his visit to Tokyo, where he declared that Japan would shoot North Korean missiles out of the sky if it bought the U.S.

weaponry needed to do so, suggesting the Japanese government take a stance it has avoided until now. North Korea has not conducted a missile test for 53 days, the longest such lull in testing this year.

And North Korean state media has not commented on President Trumps arrival in the South.

South Koreas spy agency said last week that North Korea may be preparing another missile test, raising speculation that such a launch could be timed for President Trumps trip to the region.

Blue House welcomes U.S. President Trump - Duration: 2:14.

Trump's trip to Korea garnered huge media attention as it is the first state visit to

the nation by an American leader in more than 2 decades.

At the top office a massive welcoming ceremony awaited the VIPs.

For details we turn to our Hwang Hojun Involving plenty of pomp and protocol,...

it was the warmest welcome South Korea can give.

The official welcoming ceremony for the first sitting U.S. President to make a state visit

to South Korea in 25 years was held with all the formalities and conventions of a state

visit, displaying the highest honor and courtesy,... and also featuring both the traditional and

modern sides of South Korea.

U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump entered the Blue House on Tuesday

afternoon, their cavalcade surrounded by traditional ceremonial guards.

A guard of honor and a military band made up of approximately 300 soldiers from South

Korean forces, a group of school children, and the first couple of South Korea greeted

the U.S. President and the First Lady.

And instead of any other ordinary march, the official Presidential Anthem of the U.S.,

"Hail to the Chief," was played in honor of President Trump as the two presidents entered

the Cheong Wa Dae grounds,... and "Mr. President," a song dedicated to President Moon, was played

upon their exit from the field after they inspected the troops as part of the welcoming

ceremony.

President Trump was not shy about expressing how much he was impressed.

The U.S. first couple left a message in the guest book that read,... quote "This is such

a great honor, thank you."

before entering the main building of the Blue House for the bilateral summit,... and even

expressed his gratitude before the meeting commenced.

(ENGLISH) "President Moon, I want to thank you so much

for that beautiful ceremony.

It doesn't get more beautiful than that.

I know the work that was put into it."

The two heads-of-state also enjoyed a promenade through the Blue House garden, and spared

some time to enjoy a cup of tea before their much anticipated joint press conference.

(STAND UP) Considering that President Trump is also the

first head of state to visit South Korea since President Moon's inauguration, and the delicate

time involving the alliance between Seoul and Washington, observers say the welcoming

ceremony was significant to herald a successful summit between the two leaders.

USA vs North Korea: This is the US military arsenal poised to WIPE OUT Kim's threat - Duration: 8:03.

USA vs North Korea: This is the US military arsenal poised to WIPE OUT Kim's threat

The US President has travelled to the region for a 12-day tour and is expected to be high on his agenda for meetings with South Koreas Moon Jae-in, Chinas Xi Jinping, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe and Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Trump vowed to totally destroy North Korea if it poses a threat to the US or its allies in a speech to the UN in September, to which the North Korean leader branded Trump mentally deranged while his foreign minister remarked that Pyongyang could consider a hydrogen bomb test of an unprecedented scale on the Pacific Ocean.

's UN ambassador Nikki Haley and the President himself have said "the time for talk is over", despite China, Russia, and other members of the US administration claiming dialogue remains the main aim.

The US military has a huge presence in the area around North Korea, particularly in Japan and increasingly close allies South Korea.

There are almost 40,000 US troops serving in Japan, more than in any other country, and earlier this year the US Air Force lined up a huge array of helicopters, tactical fighter jets and surveillance aircraft in a show of force aimed to intimidate Kim Jong-un.

Among the aircraft were HH-60 Pave Hawks, a twin-turboshaft helicopter primarily used for the insertion and rescue of special operation personnel.  The aircraft's versatility makes it incredibly useful in other operations too, including civilian rescue and disaster relief.

The F-15 Eagles, America's twin-engine, all-weather tactile fighter jets, are also stationed in the region and are among the most successful modern fighters, with over 100 victories and no losses in aerial combat.

Also headquartered in Japan is the Seventh Fleet, the largest of the US navy's deployed sea forces.

The flagship carrier is the USS Ronald Reagan, a nuclear-powered aircraft supercarrier that forms part of "the most effective and agile fighting force in the world".   .

Also in the fleet are up to 14 destroyers and cruisers at any given time, some armed with ballistic missile interceptors.

A collection of long-range Tomahawk land missiles, which made headlines earlier this year when President Trump fired 59 of them at an airbase in Syria, joins the arsenal.

As if that wasn't enough, there are also 12 nuclear-powered submarines available should war break out.

South of the demilitarised zone (DMZ), the US has 23,468 troops at 83 different sites as well as hundreds of tanks and armoured vehicles, meaning there is always a heavy military presence should North Korea decide to launch a land attack.

There is also the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system, which, despite criticism from Beijing and Pyongyang, is ready and waiting to intercept missiles and destroy the incoming projectiles while in mid-flight.

Guam, the US territory that Kim Jong-un has threatened to fire four ballistic missiles towards, is also host to a huge military presence.  Much of the island is controlled by the armed forces and the Andersen air base hosts a range of bombers, resulting in Guam being dubbed a "permanent aircraft carrier".

Among the aircraft at the base are B-1B bombers, B-52 bombers and F-35B stealth fighters, some of the US Air Force's most impressive jets.

The B-1B bomber is heralded for its survivability and although initially designed to carry nuclear arms, it was converted to carry more conventional weaponry after the Cold War.

The US is believed to have at least six B-1B bombers stationed in Guam and is best suited to a 'medium threat environment', rather than a heavily defended airspace.

Speaking about plans for a possible preemptive strike on North Korea earlier this month, retired Admiral James Stavridis told NBC News: "The B-1b has also been selected because it has the added benefit of not being able to carry nuclear weapons.  "Military planners think that will signal China, Russia, and Pyongyang that the US is not trying to escalate an already bad situation any further. The B-52 was first introduced in 1955 and was originally designed to carry nuclear weapons during the Cold War.

It remains one of the most superior aircraft in the US Air Force.  The long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber is capable of carrying more than 30 tons of weapons.

The aircraft's fearsome appearance and reputation has resulted in the nickname BUFF, which stands for Big Ugly Fat F*****. The US also maintains a smaller presence in other countries in the region, including Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines.

US military aircraft use Thai runways while the US Navy will operate four warships out of Singapore by next year.

Tensions have been stepped across the region over recent days following North Korea firing a test missile over Japan. The provocative action saw South Korea and US forces drop bombs on the border of the hermit state.

Earlier today France warned the situation was extremely serious. Foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian warned a nuclear strike on Europe was possible and said a world war could erupt in months.

He said: The situation is extremely serious. we see North Korea setting itself as an objective to have, tomorrow or the day after, missiles that can transport nuclear weapons. In a few months that will be a reality..

US troops hailed 'Pacific victors' while Trump claims North Korea just 'HAS to work out' - Duration: 4:58.

US troops hailed 'Pacific victors' while Trump claims North Korea just 'HAS to work out'

Just hours before the and his wife Melania arrived in South Korea, the threatened "" over the Republican's "foolish remarks" which he made while in Japan.

Addressing the 8th US Army in Korea – which brandished the motto Pacific Victors! – about the situation with the hermit kingdom, he added: "Ultimately, it will all work out. It always works out.

"It has to work out." Trump's South Korea visit marks the closest he has come to the frontline of the nuclear standoff with North Korea.

The firebrand Republican was joined by South Korea's President Moon Jae-in for lunch alongside US and South Korean troops at Camp Humphreys.

The US base is located near Pyeongtaek, which lies about 60 miles (100 km) from the border with reclusive North Korea.

Trump praised the US' cooperation with South Korea and said he also planned to address trade issues in discussions with President Moon. He said: "There is great cooperation.

We have a terrific meeting scheduled on trade in a little while with President Moon and his representatives.

"And hopefully that will start working out and working out so that we create a lot of jobs in the United States which is one of the reasons that Im here..

His comments come after the US Navy aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan, conducted three days of drills with a Japanese destroyer and two Indian warships in the Sea of Japan.

The exercise involving five ships, which ended Monday, came amid heightened tension in the region over North Koreas ballistic missile and nuclear tests.

Japans Maritime Self Defence Force said: "The exercise helped improve fighting skills and deepened cooperation with India." The 100,000-ton Reagan, which is based in Japan carries around 70 combat aircraft and is the US Navys most powerful warship in Asia.

US officials had earlier confirmed the Reagan will join two other carriers in the Western Pacific, the USS Nimitz and USS Theodore Roosevelt, in a potent reminder to Pyongyang of the US ability to rapidly mobilise military force.

Tweeting before he boarded Air Force One, the US President said: Getting ready to leave for South Korea and meetings with President Moon, a fine gentleman.

We will figure it all out! The White House said Trumps trip will demonstrate his hardline approach to North Korean nuclear and missile threats.

They will also discuss how to maintain the 28,500 US troops stationed in South Korea, which is said to be a costly measure despite tensions with the North.

Speaking ahead of the US President's visit, Van Jackson, a strategy fellow at the Centre for Strategic Studies at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand said more "heated rhetoric" against North Korea is expected.

He said: "Trumps visit is a huge variable. Its a great opportunity to show a unity of purpose against North Korea and reinforce the larger US commitment to Asia, but theres also a risk of provoking North Korea.

"We should brace for more heated rhetoric and some attempt to reassure South Korea. For most Presidents, those tasks would not be mutually exclusive. The problem is Trumps the wild card, not the reassurance guy..

SHOCK North Korea warning: US tells Kim Jong-un 'UNSEEN FORCES' are ready to STRIKE - Duration: 3:14.

SHOCK North Korea warning: US tells Kim Jong-un 'UNSEEN FORCES' are ready to STRIKE

have been ramping up their nuclear threats over the past few months and it has been feared the rogue state could strike during Mr Trump's trip to Asia.

The United States military has deployed defences to the region in case Kim Jong-un attempts to strike while the US President is in the region.

Speaking on , Admiral Robert Natter claimed he would not be "surprised" if the leader of the hermit kingdom decided to launch missiles during Mr Trump's Asia tour.

He said: "Well, history tells us Kim Jong-un is totally unpredictable as was his father and his grandfather. "I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't think it would be very smart."  Mr Natter said the US military was prepared if North Korea launched an offensive.  He said: "I think it is obvious that the US military has moved forces into the area.  "Some of which have been talked about and many quite frankly are going to be unseen if required.   .

"The reality is, no one within the United States leadership that I have spoken with is anxious to go and have to conduct military operations here.

"But we would not be responsible if we were not prepared to do so." President is expected to use his 12-day visit to four key Asian countries to try to develop a united front against Kim Jong-un.  Mr Trump's meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe come as North Korea has been ramping up is testing of nuclear weapons, with its most recent test being the most powerful.

The test took place on September 3 at the Punggye-ri Test Site which registered as a 5.7 magnitude earthquake by the South Korean government.  It was reported that a tunnel collapse in North Korea left 200 workers dead at the Punggye-ri testing facility at some point after the sixth test in September.

North Korea's dictator, has responded to Mr Trump's arrival in Asia with a new threat to the US, claimed the President will receive "merciless punishment." The threat comes after a senior diplomat from Pyongyang warned the United States to take the threat of a possible atmospheric nuclear test over the Pacific Ocean should be taken "literally", leading to World War 3 fears. .

The friend that will stand up against the bully of North Korea and it will also stand up to China.

"That is not a message that is commonly heard by either North Korea or China, certainly not during the eight years of the Obama administration, when most of the time we were issuing apologies and we were back-pedalling.

"This is a strategically important trip. The message is not just to the North Koreans. The message is to our friends.

China will take THIS side if Donald Trump leads the US to war with North Korea - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 4:34.

China will take THIS side if Donald Trump leads the US to war with North Korea

CHINA are the kingmaker as fears of nuclear war loom between the US and North Korea – but

whose side are they really on?

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un have waged a terrifying war of words this year as nuclear

conflict looms over the Korean Peninsula.

Beijing is one of the biggest players in the region, being one of the world's largest

economies and having a massive military at its fingertips.

Trump has been pressuring China to take action on North Korea, with the communist powerhouse

being one of Kim's only traditional allies.

The US President will now be making his way to Beijing for a sit-down meeting with the

newly empowered Chinese premier Xi Jinping.

Daily Star Online can now reveal which side China is really on should war come between

North Korea and the US.

Should the US attack North Korea you can expect China to "rescue" and side with Kim, Korea

expert Dr Leonid Petrov told this website.

He said while China values regional stability, it would "immediately" step into a war

to support Kim.

China has been cracking down on North Korea with sanctions this year, but it has been

facing constant pressure to do more from Trump.

This relationship between China and North Korea guarantees any military action on Kim

by the US would "end with World War 3 – a nuclear one", Dr Petrov said.

The expert explained China remains in a friendship agreement with North Korea and would step

into a war on Kim's behalf.

China sided with the North all the way back in 1950 on the dawn of the Korean War, a conflict

which technically never ended and Dr Petrov warned "this could resume at any moment".

He said: "If the US is at war with North Korea, then China is at war with the US."

The expert also described Kim's rogue state as a "proxy guard" for the region – warding

off US military drills on behalf of both China and Russia.

Dr Petrov told Daily Star Online: "The best thing China can do now is help North Korea

to be stable, that is why you can't expect from China to stifle North Korea or push them

hard.

"The stability of their own north-eastern region depends on the stability of North Korea."

China has reportedly closed its borders with North Korea ahead of Trump's visit in a

gesture of good will.

Beijing fears a war erupting with North Korea would send floods of refugees across their

eastern frontier with the rogue state.

China is North Korea's oldest ally and the two powers maintain very close ties with trade

deals.

President Xi reportedly personally hates Kim but has to tolerate him for the sake of the

region, an ex-UK diplomat revealed.

Dr Petrov said China knows a conflict would be a "tectonic" shift in the status quo

of the region – one that "nobody knows which direction it would go".

The superpower has also been squaring up the US elsewhere in the region, with conflict

continuing to brew in the disputed South China Sea.

Relations between China and the US have been strained for years as the Pacific powerhouse

ramps up its military power and aggressiveness.

War fears have loomed with North Korea this year as Kim tested scores of missiles capped

off with the detonation of an H-bomb.

Dr Petrov said he belives North Korea is "disappointed and disenchanted" with changing US policies

between different presidents – which is driving them to work for ICBMs.

He said: "North Korea believes the only that will work now is the demonstration of

power."

North Korea are feared to be readying the dreaded Juche Bird – a live nuclear missile

fired out into the heart of the Pacific.

U.S. President Donald Trump to make speech at S. Korea's National Assembly - Duration: 1:36.

Trump's first day is nearing an end now -- enjoying a lavish state banquet and musical performances

for the remainder of the day.

Kim Min-ji takes a look at where his itinerary takes him on his second and final day of his

visit to South Korea.

The highlight of U.S. President Donald Trump's second and final day of his state visit to

South Korea will BE his visit to the National Assembly.

The U.S. leader is scheduled to sit down for a brief talk with parliamentary speaker Chung

Sye-kyun,... as well as the floor leaders of country's ruling and opposition parties.

Trump will be accompanied by top U.S. government officials, including Secretary of State Rex

Tillerson, National Security Advisor H.R McMaster,... and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly

White.

This will then be followed by his much anticipated address.

It's the first speech by a U.S. president in 24 years,... the last being made by former

President Bill Clinton back in 1993.

Trump is known for not going by the script,... but his speech,... expected to last some 20

minutes, will most likely focus on North Korea and its ongoing provocations.

There's also speculation that the U.S. president may touch upon the South Korea-U.S. alliance,...

or pending trade issues.

Some 550 people will be present,... including South Korea's lawmakers,... foreign diplomats

and those invited by the U.S. government.

President Trump will then wrap up his visit to South Korea by paying his respects at Seoul's

In Korea, we have a custom of holding a special

celebration on one's first birthday.

So, after pondering about how to best celebrate the

first anniversary of President Trump's victory,

I decided to invite the President to Korea as a

state guest and hold a banquet.

(Applause)

Ladies and gentlemen, another big

round of applause to congratulate President Trump.

(Applause)

I would like to extend my heartfelt

welcome to President and Mrs. Trump, both of whom I

highly respect, on their first visit to Korea.

This is the first state visit by an American

President in 25 years and the first state visit for

me and my administration.

I am very pleased to get this opportunity to repay

so quickly the hospitality I received in Washington,

D.C. last June.

Over the months, I have maintained close contact

with President Trump.

But now, after spending a day with the President and

the First Lady within Cheong Wa Dae, I feel a

sense of intimacy, as if we were old friends.

Distinguished guests, last September, in his keynote

speech to the U.N. General Assembly, President Trump

recollected President Truman's great initiatives

for rebuilding the free world in the aftermath of

World War II.

Thanks to President Truman's resolute

decision, the U.S.-led U.N. forces

participated in the war that broke out

on the Korean Peninsula.

The ROK-U.S. alliance

was born out of the same red blood of

patriots spilt by Korean and American soldiers on

the battlefield.

Last June, I paid my respects at the Chosin

Reservoir Battle memorial in Quantico.

I convey my gratitude to the Korean War veterans

for their honorable sacrifices, and reflect

upon the noble values of the ROK-U.S.

alliance that has defended freedom and peace.

Even at this very moment, the peace of my country,

which was won with blood, is being threatened once again.

But the ROK-U.S.

alliance gives us the strength to stop this threat.

Camp Humphreys, where President Trump visited

today, is the largest and most advanced U.S.

military installation outside of the United

States, and it is a symbol of the enduring strength

of the ROK-U.S. alliance.

Ladies and gentlemen, war must not break out again

on the Korean Peninsula.

And in this respect, the United States has provided

enormous support.

The close coordination between Korea and the

United States, and the overwhelming superiority

of power that stems from the ROK-U.S.

alliance, will eventually make North Korea cease its

reckless provocations and make North Korea come out

to dialogue for denuclearization.

The ROK-U.S. alliance of tomorrow

will grow into a trustworthy

pillar that guarantees the lasting peace on the

Korean Peninsula and also builds peace and

prosperity in all of Northeast Asia.

Ladies and gentlemen, President Trump's election

victory one year ago is already

making America great again.

Korea faces the task of making this world a better

place through cooperation with a great America.

Korea has worked with the United States for peace

and reconstruction in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We are also working hand-in-hand with the

United States to realize the common values of

humanity, such as human rights

and the eradication of poverty.

I believe that making such joint efforts will make

the ROK-U.S.

alliance an even greater alliance as President

Trump and I have agreed to do last June, and, at the

same time, make America even greater.

Thank you.

(Applause)

Now I would like to propose a toast.

Please fill your glasses, and may I ask you

to raise your glasses.

If you are ready:

I give you my word that I will always stand by you

on our journey to make the

ROK-U.S. alliance an even greater alliance.

I congratulate President Trump on the one-year

anniversary of his election victory.

And I would like to propose a toast to the

good health of President and Mrs. Trump.

(A toast is offered)

The President: Well, thank you very much.

And this is an exciting time, and we're going to

have an exciting day tomorrow, for many reasons

that people will find out, in addition to the fact I

look forward to making a -- hopefully --

very comprehensive speech before you

and the leaders of Korea.

And that will be really something that I'm

representing the American people.

The relationship that we have is a fantastic one.

And I have to say, President Moon and First

Lady Kim, thank you very much.

I greatly appreciate your hosting Melania and myself

on our first trip to the very beautiful Republic of Korea.

We were honored to welcome you to the White House

this past summer, and now it's a tremendous honor to

visit your magnificent home -- and magnificent it

is, to see this beautiful land, and to meet the

remarkable people of South Korea.

The partnership between our two nations and our

two people is deep and enduring.

We have been proud to stand by your side for

many decades as an unwavering friend

and a loyal ally.

And you have never had a time where this ally has

been more loyal or stood by your side more

than right now.

Here in South Korea, the people built a free,

sovereign, and democratic republic.

Through their resilience and sacrifice and

determination, they became the chief architects of the future.

Today, the course of this great nation is charted

solely by the free people of South Korea.

Mr. President, your remarkable success truly

demonstrates what is possible when people are

free to follow their dreams, pursue their

passions, and hope for a better future for their children.

Tonight, we celebrate South Korea's success and

we affirm our close and abiding bonds of friendship.

Together, our nations remind the world of the

boundless potential of societies that choose

freedom over tyranny, and who set the free.

And we will free, and we will sacrifice, and we

will hope, and we will make things beautiful,

especially the aspiration of your people.

As true partners, we have remained faithful friends

through periods of challenge and opportunity.

And that's what we have now, is great opportunity.

We will continue to support each other

in the years ahead.

In that spirit, I would like to offer a toast to

President Moon and First Lady Kim, and to the

people of South Korea: May freedom and peace flourish

on this peninsula.

In our time, and for generations to come, this

will be a special evening and a special time.

May our bonds of friendship continue to

deepen, and may the cherished hopes of our

people and the people across the region soon be realized.

Mr. President, may your dreams come true.

It's an honor to be with you.

Thank you very much.

(A toast is offered)

Blue House welcomes U.S. President Trump - Duration: 2:16.

China will take THIS side if Donald Trump leads the US to war with North Korea - Duration: 5:36.

China will take THIS side if Donald Trump leads the US to war with North Korea

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un have waged a terrifying war of words this year as nuclear conflict looms over the Korean Peninsula.

Beijing is one of the biggest players in the region, being one of the world's largest economies and having a massive military at its fingertips.

Trump has been pressuring China to take action on North Korea, with the communist powerhouse being one of Kim's only traditional allies.

The US President will now be making his way to Beijing for a sit-down meeting with the newly empowered Chinese premier Xi Jinping.

Daily Star Online can now reveal which side China is really on should war come between North Korea and the US.

"If the US is at war with North Korea, then China is at war with the US" Dr Petrov Should the US attack North Korea you can expect China to "rescue" and side with Kim, Korea expert Dr Leonid Petrov told this website.

He said while China values regional stability, it would "immediately" step into a war to support Kim. China has been cracking down on North Korea with sanctions this year, but it has been facing constant pressure to do more from Trump.

This relationship between China and North Korea guarantees any military action on Kim by the US would "end with World War 3 – a nuclear one", Dr Petrov said.

The expert explained China remains in a friendship agreement with North Korea and would step into a war on Kim's behalf.

China sided with the North all the way back in 1950 on the dawn of the Korean War, a conflict which technically never ended and Dr Petrov warned "this could resume at any moment".

He said: "If the US is at war with North Korea, then China is at war with the US." The expert also described Kim's rogue state as a "proxy guard" for the region – warding off US military drills on behalf of both China and Russia.

Dr Petrov told Daily Star Online: "The best thing China can do now is help North Korea to be stable, that is why you can't expect from China to stifle North Korea or push them hard.

"The stability of their own north-eastern region depends on the stability of North Korea." China has reportedly closed its borders with North Korea ahead of Trump's visit in a gesture of good will.

Beijing fears a war erupting with North Korea would send floods of refugees across their eastern frontier with the rogue state.

China is North Korea's oldest ally and the two powers maintain very close ties with trade deals. President Xi reportedly personally hates Kim but has to tolerate him for the sake of the region, an ex-UK diplomat revealed.

Dr Petrov said China knows a conflict would be a "tectonic" shift in the status quo of the region – one that "nobody knows which direction it would go".

The superpower has also been squaring up the US elsewhere in the region, with conflict continuing to brew in the disputed South China Sea.

Relations between China and the US have been strained for years as the Pacific powerhouse ramps up its military power and aggressiveness.  Vladimir Putin: North Korea crisis should be solved through talks not threats.

War fears have loomed with North Korea this year as Kim tested scores of missiles capped off with the detonation of an H-bomb.

Dr Petrov said he belives North Korea is "disappointed and disenchanted" with changing US policies between different presidents – which is driving them to work for ICBMs.

He said: "North Korea believes the only that will work now is the demonstration of power." North Korea are feared to be readying the dreaded Juche Bird – a live nuclear missile fired out into the heart of the Pacific.

First ladies of S. Korea, U.S. on day of diplomacy - Duration: 1:46.

The first ladies got to spend some time together,... having afternoon tea time and discussing Korea's

culture and history.

Lee Unshin zooms in on their brand of diplomacy.

U.S. President Donald Trump to make speech at S. Korea's National Assembly - Duration: 1:44.

And it's the second and final day of President Trump's stay here in South Korea.

First up on his schedule today-- addressing Korea's National Assembly at around 11AM Korea

time.

It will be the first to the country's parliament by a sitting U.S. president in nearly a quarter

of a decade.

For more on that and the rest of his schedule, here's Kim Min-ji.

National Cemetery,... before embarking on the next leg of his Asia tour... that will

take him to China.
