Hey It's Rachel. Today on Crack Your Bible, I wanted to talk to you more about Genesis 7.
Now I know that the last time we spoke, we talked about Genesis 7, it was a few
weeks ago. Because of course everyone knows there were the terror attacks in
Europe, so we were kind of diverted off course to talk about that. Well, last
night I got in from Dallas and what was in my mail? (which was on hold) The new
Creation magazine, not sponsored, and they had an article on what we were going to
talk about today, which is Genesis 7. We left off on verse 11, so if you want to
open your Bible to Genesis 7 verse 12, we're going to be talking about the
animals and their kind. Which, what do you know? That's what they're talking
about. Anyways. So what happened? When we left off, God wanted all the animals to
come to the ark, He wanted Noah to build the ark and this is where we're
at. (Genesis 7:12-16 on screen.) Noah and his family got into the ark and on the day that he got into the ark
it says and it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, but it also talks about the
animals that came into the ark. And it says that there were seven pairs of
clean animals - a male and its mate, and then it says that there's one pair of
unclean animals - a male and its mate. The Bible mentions all the different types
of animals that made it onto the ark. It talks about the wild animals,
so you're basic land animals. It talks about the livestock animals, so like
cows or sheep. Then you have the birds of the air, you have the crawling animals,
like bugs. But of course aquatic animals, such as dolphins or
whales, those obviously did not make it onto the ark. They had no need to. Even
though the ark was gigantic, could you really fit every single type of animal
there? And the thing is, is the Bible specifically mentions "kind" and when it
talks about "kind," for example you wouldn't have a golden retriever, a
Rottweiler, a bulldog and a poodle all on the ark and have all their kinds and
their mates and all this other stuff. No. You would have one pair that were the
main dog pair or the wolf pair, since we know that all of our dogs domesticated
dogs come from wolves who have been bred down and different traits through
recessive and dominant genes. That's how we've gotten all of our different dog
breeds so on the ark you will have all of these dog breeds. You just have that
one pair that God has put in them the recessive and dominant genes so that
their offspring will be able to make all these other types of animals. And for
example that's how we get people who look different. We're all humans. We're all
the same species but we're also the same kind, even though we have great
differences in how we look. For example me - I'm super pale. My skin is really
light and a lot of times I have to put on makeup that's way darker than my skin even
though I look pale. My sisters, who we... we all have the same parents, are much
darker than I am. So through recessive and dominant traits my parents, my
sisters, have darker skin than I do. So same parents, same DNA, but we come out
looking differently. I have blue eyes, my sisters don't have blue eyes. My husband
has dark brown eyes. There's zero chance of him having a recessive trait for blue
eyes, so if we ever have children, we'll never have blue-eyed children. So
we can kind of assume that Noah and his family probably had lighter color eyes just
they would have that recessive gene to pass down to their family members. But
God did that with all different types of animals and that's how you have not so
many animals going on the ark, but still having all the diversity that we
have today in the animal kingdom. So how would you figure out animals... if
they're of the same kind or if they're of a different kind? Well for example, the
magazine actually talks about this. It says if two animals can have babies or
interbreed, then they are part of the same created kind. For instance,
lions and tigers can have offspring, called "ligers" or "tygon." Such mixed
offspring are called "hybrids." Some animals are so different that they can't
have hybrids at all or their hybrids can't have babies of their own. These are
often called "different species." But if two different species can interbreed with
the same third species, all three are the same kind. For example, lions can't
interbreed with pumas, but both lions and pumas can interbreed
with leopards, so they are all part of the cat kind. Even though they look
different. So for example, here's one where you have birds. Hummingbirds and
ostriches cannot mate with each other. But to the best of my knowledge, there is
no animal, that is also a bird, that can mate with both a hummingbird or an
ostrich, therefore hummingbirds and ostriches are not of the same kind in
Bible terms. So you would have whatever is their generic kind would be on board
the ark. One of the other things that I wanted to talk to you about is some
people question, "how did the animals get on the ark? How do they know where to go
or what to do?" And I think we need to look at examples in nature, because again,
in this magazine, it talks about how ants use the sun to navigate where they
need to go. They're not looking at their surroundings. They're not looking at, "oh I
remember this tree or I remember this rock here, so I needed to go three paces
after this flower and then make a left." They don't do that. What they do is they
follow the sun's path. And we all know that the world used to be like Pangaea
where you have one supercontinent, so all the animals were able to make it to the
ark. It's not like, oh one is on Australia so how are they going to make it over
here? Even if even if it was all broken up, God can make a way. So if the crawling
animals, like ants, use the Sun to guide their paths. (Jeremiah 8:7 on screen) And we know that birds no
matter... no matter what, with the changing of the seasons, they can go back south to
the same spot year after year. We know that monarch butterflies can go from the
top of the United States all the way down to Mexico and into South America. We
know that fish like salmon will hatch and then when they're ready to spawn
again, they'll go back to the place that they were born, having to go up river,
upstream, to go to a specific place to breed. And God can direct the steps of (Job 12:7-10 on screen)
animals. If God wants the animals to go in a certain place, He has the ability to
do that. We see this with humans, with the Star of Bethlehem. God was able to
navigate a heavenly body to fall over a specific place, so that the Magi coming
from the east, would find exactly where the baby Jesus was. Likewise, that God
could do that with the Magi, why couldn't He do that with animals? He's already
programmed the animals to go to specific places during certain seasons.
I hope that clears up some of the questions about animal kinds, can they all
fit on the ark? Well, you don't really need that many animals on the ark because
they all have recessive and dominant traits, so you just need that one initial
pair and then their offspring will create diversity. And then, how did the
animals get to the ark? Well, God uses heavenly bodies and the seasons to
navigate animals to certain places that He wants them. So if He wanted them to all
go to a certain spot, which is where the ark was, He was able to do that. And with
Pangaea, the supercontinent, it would have been very easy for all the animals to
make it to one spot, because the land wasn't all broken apart yet. So just
something that I wanted to share with you. And I think the on Wednesday or
Friday, I haven't decided which, we're going to be talking about what happens
to pets and other animals when they die. So I hope you will join me on Wednesday
and Friday so we can talk then, but I will see you guys on Wednesday and I
would like you to like, subscribe and share and I'll talk to you later. Bye!
