Auto news on Youtube Nov 7 2017

hey guys I wanted to come to you today with a really quick tutorial about how I

take care of my deep circles before we get into this mess I want you to like

share and subscribe to this video in future videos if you like these type of

videos please let me know in the comments and tag your friends and please

give this a thumbs up so this isn't this mass only takes three ingredients aloe

vera coffee and water that's it so you want to take the aloe vera you want to

take about one to two tablespoons of olive air you can't really if you use

fresh aloe vera you can't really measure it like that but as you can see I'm just

scraping that out of the plant I don't have organic coffee but this is

the closest that I have it's pure coffee and you want to take about one heaping

tablespoon of coffee and you want to make it into like I kind of actually use

a little bit too much water but I didn't want it to be so thick so I didn't want

to use that much coffee so I just left it but you can use less water and make

it to like a chunkier paste but you want to just mix that ingre mix those three

ingredients up and then you want to take it and then you're gonna pay on your

eyes you don't you could just use your fingers but I like to use a cotton pad

and just kind of relax so you want to if you use a cotton pad you want to drench

the cotton pad into the mixture like make sure it's entirely coated and then

you want to close your eyes and put the cotton pad right over your eyes you want

to cover the dark circles all around your eyes now for me I have hereditary

dark circles and they get worse if I don't drink a lot of water if I don't do

what I'm supposed to do so this is really good for dark circles

because the caffeine has so many benefits it actually is really really

effective with neutralizing free radicals that damage your skin it helped

exfoliate and increases circulation and brightens the skin aloe vera is

considered the plant of immortality I use Aloe Vera for everything but you

will see that I'm using aloe vera for everything it's I can you can use it for

everything but once this mask is on you can actually just rub it off with a

clean towel and I don't like to wash my face after this I just like to let all

the ingredients just seep in whatever's left and then I take this serum and then

I rub this into my eyes and then that's it like it's really really simple it's

like the simplest mask ever you can actually put this all over your face but

I wouldn't suggest it until you do like a patch test somewhere on your skin

actually before you do any DIY I would suggest that you do a patch test before

you do anything like do it like on the back of your wrist or behind your ear

just so you can see if you have any any allergies or inflammation to the skin

but I want to thank you guys so much if you like this please give me a thumbs up

please share this video and subscribe tell all your friends and you want to

use this for best results at least once a week for at least 4 weeks to see

results so thank you guys so much

Dark Secrets The Cast Of Frasier Tried To Hide - Duration: 7:17.

One of the most popular and successful sitcoms in history, Frasier took its final bow in

2004, and an astounding 33 million viewers tuned in for the show's emotional finale.

With 37 Emmy wins, the scripted series held the record until HBO's Game of Thrones took

the crown in 2016.

Fans might assume the brilliant, tight-knit cast was living the dream, but painful stories

and scandals lurked just behind the scenes.

Here are some of the dark secrets the stars of Frasier tried to hide.

Grammer's family tragedies

Kelsey Grammer is best known for portraying the flawed and pompous, yet iconic and lovable

Dr. Frasier Crane for 20 consecutive years across three TV series: Cheers, Frasier, and

even one episode of Wings.

But despite his success, Grammer's personal life was plagued by tragedy.

In 1968, when Grammer was 13 years old, his estranged father was fatally shot.

Grammer later explained, "A man who was proven to be, at least in court, of questionable

sanity, I suppose, lit a ring of fire around his house and as my father came down to investigate

what was going on, he shot him…several times and...dad died."

In 1975, tragedy struck again when Grammer's 18-year-old sister, Karen, was abducted, assaulted,

and fatally stabbed by "spree killer" Freddie Glenn.

In 2009, Glenn was up for parole — which Grammer successfully opposed, by writing to

the board: "I miss her in my bones...I was her big brother.

I was supposed to protect her — I could not…It very nearly destroyed me."

Then, in 1980, Grammer's half brothers, Stephen and Billy, died in a scuba accident off St.

Thomas.

According to People, when Billy failed to surface, Stephen dove in to try to find him

but "suffered a fatal embolism during an improper ascent.

Billy's body was never recovered."

Grammer's substance abuse

In the two decades following his sister's murder, Grammer turned to drugs and alcohol

and faced trouble with the law.

As the actor admitted, his addiction was exacerbated by his newfound fame during Cheers in 1984.

He told The Post, "I was drinking too much, I was doing too much cocaine...I was in my

early 30s.

I was making enough money to do pretty much anything I really wanted to do, and I did

that."

After two arrests for DWI and possession, it was in 1996 that Grammer was allegedly

driving under the influence when he lost control of his car near his home in Malibu, rolling

his Dodge Viper.

But although Grammer's complex personal life never severely affected Frasier, his fellow

cast members were well aware of his troubles and decided to stage an intervention.

Production on Frasier shut down for a month when Grammer agreed to seek help.

Two years later, the now-sober actor won his third Emmy for best actor in a comedy, thanking

his castmates in his speech:

"To a very special, small group of people that came to me a while back in a very dark

time in my life…

I love you, and thank you."

Gilpin's rough start

Only a few days into production on Frasier, the role of Roz was suddenly recast from Friends'

Lisa Kudrow, to Peri Gilpin.

Casting Director Jeff Greenberg told Entertainment Weekly, "You could see Kelsey [as Frasier]

was going to be able to railroad [Kudrow] and do what he wanted…there was not going

to be the conflict there."

The team reportedly brought in Peri because, quote "she could go toe-to-toe with Kelsey."

As Gilpin revealed in 2016, she and Grammer struggled to collaborate early on.

She recalled working on a comedic bit in which Frasier and Roz perform a silly Monday morning

cheer.

"So, I was standing there with Kelsey and Jimmy, and Jimmy goes, 'Well, what're you

gonna do?'

And I was like, 'Well…,' and Kelsey goes, 'Ugh, I wish Kirstie was here.'"

Grammer may have been momentarily longing for his former Cheers co-star, Kirstie Alley,

but Gilpin eventually found her character — and a place in sitcom history.

Mahoney's privacy and personal struggles

John Mahoney is most known for playing Frasier and Niles' gruff ex-detective dad, Marty Crane,

who couldn't be more different from his persnickety sons.

In real life, Mahoney never quite grew as comfortable with fame as his co-stars did.

He told the Chicago Tribune in 1996, "I come from a secretive Irish family.

I cherish my privacy."

When Frasier ended, the actor left Hollywood, returning to his native Illinois and settled

in a suburb of Chicago.

He's continued to work — mainly in the city's famous Steppenwolf Theatre.

Mahoney confessed to being "a bit of a hermit," but says he's happier spending his free time

dining out, going to the movies, fishing, and playing cards.

Mahoney was born in Manchester, England and grew up during World War II, and his childhood

was fraught with hardship.

He told The Guardian, "When I was growing up there, I was playing in the air-raid shelters

and bombed-out buildings.

I associate Manchester with need and want and ration books…with dirt and smoke and

smog and fog."

Life at home was just as bleak, particularly due to his parents' unhappy marriage, which

affected Mahoney's own love life.

He said, "I was never very mature in my relationships with women.

First sign of conflict, I was gone.

Wouldn't discuss it, because I was afraid it would lead to an argument."

But his solo existence has been impacted by more than his stormy childhood.

He told TimeOut in 2008, "Twenty-three years ago I had cancer of the colon.

I had to have major surgery, and I have a colostomy.

I really couldn't have sex after that.

I'm very happy by myself and with my friends, but no, I'm definitely not involved with anybody.

Nor do I ever look to be."

Grammer's volatile marriages

After's Grammer's first marriage to Broadway dancer Doreen Alderman ended in divorce in

1990, he then married Leigh-Anne Csuhany, a former exotic dancer.

In his 1996 autobiography So Far…, Grammer wrote of Csuhany's violent temper: "She'd

spit in my face.

Slap me.

Punch me.

Kick me.

Break glasses over my head.

Break windows.

Tear up pictures of my loved ones.

Threaten to kill me, kill herself."

Grammer filed for an annulment nine months in, and then a pregnant Csuhany allegedly

attempted suicide by swallowing five bottles of Tylenol pills.

She survived, but their unborn child did not.

According to the Daily Mail, as that marriage crumbled, Grammer had an affair with make-up

artist Barrie Buckner and fathered a daughter named Greer.

Grammer met his third wife, former Playboy model Camille Donatacci, on a blind date in

1996, and they wed the following year.

They had a daughter, Mason, and a son, Jude, before Camille filed for divorce after 13

years, citing "irreconcilable differences."

The actor is currently happily married to British flight attendant Kayte Walsh, and

the pair have three children together: Faith, Kelsey, and Auden.

Темная ночь (The dark night) - Дмитрий Хворостовский (2015) - Duration: 4:15.

The night is dark, only bullets are whizzing over the steppe

Only wind rumbles in the wires, and faded stars twinkle.

I know that you don't sleep in this dark night, my lovely,

And you secretly wipe your tears by the cradle.

I love so much the depth of your gentle eyes,

I want to touch them now with my lips!

The dark night divides us, my lovely,

And severe, black steppe was pushed between me and you.

I do believe in you, my dear friend,

This faith prevented me from the bullets in the dark night...

I am glad and calm in this deadly fight,

Because I know that you will show me love, no matter what wrong happens to me.

The death is not scary, we have faced it many times on the steppe.

And even now it circles around me.

You are waiting for me and you cannot sleep by the cradle.

That's why I know: nothing wrong will happen to me!

Has Luke Skywalker Gone to the Dark Side in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Mark Hamill Weighs In - Duration: 2:29.

Has Luke Skywalker Gone to the Dark Side in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Mark Hamill Weighs In

The initial teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, released in April, ended with a shocking quote from Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill): I only know one truth: Its time for the Jedi to end. Say what?! For months, fans have been trying to decipher what that line of dialogue will mean for the character, first introduced in 1977.

Im sure this line is a great shock to the audience, so you can imagine how I felt! This is a huge change for a character who once represented optimism and hope.

Its a radical decision to drop out of everything hes ever believed in, Hamill said in the Winter 2017 edition of Disney Rewards Insider.

The entire movie is filled with these kinds of jaw-dropping surprises, but youll just have to see the film itself to discover what they are. Will Luke go the way of his father, Darth Vader? In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Luke has lost confidence in his ability to make good choices.

It haunts him to the core. But he hasnt gone to the dark side. This isnt an evil version of him. But its still an incarnation of the character I never expected, the actor said.

It has pulled me out of my comfort zone. Its a real challenge..

I dont think Lukes fundamental personality has changed, the 66-year-old said, except that he is older and his life experiences have shaped his outlook the same way they do for all of us. Prior to the events of The Force Awakens, Luke exiled himself on the remote island of Ahch-To, abandoning his sister, Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), and his comrades, including R2-D2 (Kenny Baker), C-3PO (Athony Daniels), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew).

It wasnt until the end of the movie that Rey (Daisy Ridley) finally located the isolated Jedi knight.

The biggest challenge for me was actually in the time between [1983s] Return of the Jedi and [2015s] Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I had to know what had happened to Luke during those years.

I had to glean decades of backstory from the script. And some of it I had to make up for myself, Hamill admitted to Disney Rewards Insider. I had to know what he went through during that time.

Its not important to the storyline for this film, but I did discuss some of my thoughts with [The Last Jedis writer and director] Rian Johnson to make sure I wasnt coming up with anything in my personal backstory that would affect Lukes portrayal in this film..

Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi is in theaters Dec. 15.

The Chase's Dark Destroyer KISSES contestant as game hots up - Duration: 3:29.

The Chase's Dark Destroyer KISSES contestant as game hots up

The Chaser The Dark Destroyer aka Shaun Wallace was feeling rather affectionate after taking on contestant Trudy from Lancashire.

In a nail-biting final chase, Trudy battled it out solo against the quiz master after the rest of her teammates failed to get back home.

But sadly, the 67-year-old only managed to score 15 points on her own – not enough to beat her opponent Shaun.

Just before Shaun smashed Trudys score out of the park, presenter Bradley Walsh told his player: Ive got to be honest with you Trudy, that was a brilliant performance.

15 for a single player, youve got to be happy with that. Its alright, Trudy replied.

Just a few minutes later, Brad had to remove the £3,000 Trudy had racked up in her cash builder after Shaun beat her score in plenty of time.

Bradley announced: Three attempts to push back, one executed and caught with 26 seconds remaining.

The damage was done when the chaser got rid of the other players.

"Youve been fantastic, well done" Shaun Wallace Trudy, youve been caught and for you, The Chase is over. The retired social worker congratulated her opponent – but little did she know what The Dark Destroyer was about to do next… Shaun replied: If Trudy had one more player, I would have been under serious pressure.

The result could have been completely different.

And you know what, Im not going to gloat..

Shaun then blew a kiss in Trudys direction, before adding: Youve been fantastic, well done.

The 57-year-old general knowledge guru then turned to Brad and said: I had to play well throughout that entire game because I was up against four very good players, and if they had a chance to get into the final chase, the four of them, I dont think I wouldve won.

Blimey, thats a side to Shaun we never thought wed see… Catch The Chase weekdays from 5pm on ITV.

Walking I go, slowly

Not wanting to get to the place,

where I am the shadow nobody looks at

In middle of a street, grim and without people

I start thinking

"How much important is my presence in that destination?"

I start looking everywhere I don't want to be seen

It's cold and the cats are watching me, My footsteps go "don don don"

Dragging both of my feet

I look at my shadow and start coughing

Having no motivation whatsoever I just want to go home and sleep

Dragging both of my feet

I keep moving forward and I don't know why

Getting close to my destination I wanted to return back home

Archives are entirely dependent

on mediums of remembrance, mediums of memory

and those mediums of memory have continuously been changing

over centuries and centuries.

I mean, in the Greek era, Greek Classical era,

Socrates' and Plato's and Aristotle's entire debate

would be that memory and knowledge should be embodied.

So we have audio recordings going back to the 1920s that are on wires,

all of these strange formats, and when you get into the video era in the late 60s and 70s,

there were machines that came and went in less than a year sometimes.

They would enter the market but then no-one bought them

because they were buying a different brand instead

and so then those machines go off the market

and so whenever we get a tape in some weird new format

then we commit to finding the machine somewhere.

Josh Millard - Keeping Web Communities Healthy in a Dark Timeline - DonutJS October 2017 - Duration: 17:02.

So hi!

Thanks for being here!

I do want to admit, when Matt asked me if I wanted to speak, I was like...

Donut.js?

I've heard of this.

It sounds cool.

But I don't really do much JavaScript.

I'm not a JavaScript guy.

So I wasn't really clear what thematically I had to offer.

Finally, I got the picture eventually.

I should also note that Matt suggested this perfectly good title for the public-facing

PR on the website and stuff to keep it short and not cursy.

But my original working title was actually:

On Systemic Damage to Online Communities Resulting

from Everything Being Constantly Unimaginably Fucked

It's gonna be a fun talk!

We're gonna have a good time.

Yes.

My name is Josh Millard.

Although a lot of people know me as cortex, because that's been my user name on Metafilter

for the last 16 years.

Metafilter is an online discussion driven community.

A really old one.

It's been going since literally the 20th Century, where any user can post a link to the front

page and then folks discuss it, which was really a novel idea in 1999.

We're known for being a well moderated, nontoxic place on the internet, one of the few sites

where you actually want to read the comments.

We have a team of paid moderators with someone on shift 24/7.

All of us are active community members who respond promptly to emails and discussions

on the site and help Metafilter members work out any problems that come up in realtime.

It's not perfect, but we try really hard, and that's the core reason Metafilter still

has the reputation it's maintained all these years.

So it's a special place to me and to a lot of people.

I've spent literally my whole adult life there, and I've worked there for over 10 years now

as a moderator, for the last two and a half years, I've run the site, after Matt Howie,

the site's founder, was very burned out, left and got a job at Slack which has been great for him.

And as of earlier this summer I've owned the site.

which is a complicated story, but the short version is...

Metafilter is important enough to me that I will do everything I can to make sure it

exists as long as it can.

It's a site and a community that I think is worth fighting for.

It's the kind of community that I think is vital to the web.

Not just Metafilter, but things like Metafilter.

Maybe now more than ever in the face of the toxicity and unchecked harassment that's come

to be a defining aspect of so many of our social media and discussion platforms.

We need places on the internet where people are decent to each other and care for each other.

And Metafilter is one of those places.

And I'm incredibly proud to be its steward.

This is all to give you a little context on why the next part of this talk isn't just

me running and screaming.

Because I took over managerial responsibility for Metafilter in early 2015 and I was feeling

a lot of joy and hope about the site and the web and the world.

And it was just Lisa Frank shit everywhere.

And then...

(bitter laughter)

I promise this talk isn't actually about Donald Trump.

I don't want to talk about or think about Donald Trump any more than I already have to

which is way more than I ever imagined I would.

But this talk is about...

This talk is about what happens after shit happens.

It's about trying to get back to normal, when normal doesn't really feel like an option.

It's about figuring out what to do, when you've fallen off a cliff.

Basically trying to recognize when a community you care about is under sustained, crushing

stress that you don't have the means to rectify or eliminate for them.

It's asking the question: How do you fix things anyway, in that sort of situation?

It's a really short talk.

It's impossible.

Everything is fucked.

I want to thank Matt.

I want to...

Um, Okay.

So...

Let's say this is a talk about falling off a cliff.

And then...

Looking for the cracks you can get your fingers into.

You can't unfall.

The cliff thing has happened.

It's definitely...

It's happening.

But what you can do is try to find purchase.

You can try to break your fall.

And at their best, this is what communities do.

Metafilter has always had a complicated relationship with politics.

We're a general interest community founded on the idea of finding and sharing and talking

about weird and cool and interesting stuff on the web.

And we're an international community.

We've got users in countries all over the world.

I have employees in Greece, Austria, the Netherlands.

It's not a site about politics.

It's not a site about the US.

It's definitely not a site about US politics.

And we've had a lot of arguments over the years in the community over how best to

balance interest in so-called news filter and political discussions against the more generalist,

topic-neutral aims of the site.

But the majority of our users are based in the United States.

And so every four years, there's been an uptick of interest in discussing the US presidential election.

It's a cyclical thing.

Politics gets to be this busy, can't look away topic for a while, and then things settle down

and go back to normal.

Some election cycles have been worse than others, but 2016 was a record-shattering motherfucker.

(also, content warning, I'm going to swear some)

So the GOP primaries started really early.

Is part of the thing.

So all of this has been going on in a sense since...

You know, 2015, in the summer.

But when the Democratic primaries started going, stuff got a lot worse for us on the site

Now the fighting was happening more inside the family.

It's a relatively lefty progressive-leaning site.

People got angry.

People melted down.

With a ton at stake, it was hard for people to feel like the Clintons and Sanders conflicts

weren't deeply personal.

And you could feel it not just in these fractious election threads, but spilling out everywhere

else in the site too.

It set the tone.

And then the ugly rise of Trump to nominee and the tone that set for national politics

had a lot of folks on edge too.

He was always behind, but he was there and being granted this legitimacy and it was depressing

no matter how you looked at it.

So it was an ugly, long stream of months on Metafilter.

It was hard for people on the site, hanging out.

And it was a hard time to be working there.

And I told myself and I told the community...

This will pass.

Real soon now, this will pass, like it does every four years.

I told them...

Just muddle through November.

Let's get through November together and it'll start to get back to normal.

We just need to get through November.

It's been a long November.

Thank you, the two people...

That one was a risk.

There's only so far you can go with a joke like that.

Anyway, this talk is not about...

But it is about the psychic damage that's done when the prevailing conditions are bad.

There's the damage from being faced daily with a national leadership that is openly

maliciously gleefully vicious and hateful.

The damage from a torrent of ugly and threatening unbelievable behavior that is unprecedented not just in

its amplitude but in its breakneck pace, where seemingly every day there's some new ugliness,

with no pause to catch your breath.

So let's talk about how you do normal under those circumstances, under those conditions.

So really...

It's impossible.

You can't get back to normal.

It's not like that.

Shit is not normal.

Normal isn't on the table.

Normal isn't on the horizon.

Everything really is kind of fucked.

You know?

And if you just try to pretend stuff is totally normal, you'll drive yourself crazy.

People are scared.

People are worried.

People are angry and depressed and anxious and all for really good reasons and it weighs

on them and their communities every day.

Even when it's not on the forefront, it's still there.

It's like background radiation and constant stress.

And members of the Metafilter community have been scraping up every bit of energy they

can manage to protest and advocate and fight, and they've been wrung out by the effort.

Frankly, the heightened existential threat to people of color, queer, trans, non-binary

folks, women and immigrants -- to basically every already oppressed or disadvantaged

group is staggering and it's exhausting.

It's not normal even by the standards of a world that was already rife with all kinds

of systemic injustice.

There's no fix for that.

There's no magic wand to wave, to undo what's going on.

So you can't fix it.

And if you can't fix it, well...

Fuck.

What can you do?

Basically you can find ways to keep on going.

You keep on going even when everything is fucked.

You look for the workarounds, the compromises, you try to find those bits of oasis to catch

your breath in.

I want really badly to be able to undo the stress that's been on the Metafilter community

for the last two years, but I can't.

I would love to unfuck the world, but I can't.

What I can do is try to find that purchase.

Try to help my community get their fingers into those cracks and hold on and find ways

to rest and recuperate.

Help them find some comfort and camaraderie on the cliff wall we're all currently clinging to.

So for Metafilter, that's meant a couple different things.

For one, it's meant recognizing that a lot of people in our community find value in these

ongoing political discussions, even as others desperately need a break from it.

It's meant finding a way to support both of those things at the same time.

Earlier this year we implemented a US politics toggle on our front page, which lets users

who want quick access to various ongoing political threads find them easily, even after they've

scrolled off the front page, days back into the archives, they can hit a link on the sidebar.

But it also lets users who want to just not see that stuff when they visit the front page

click one link to filter it out so that the latest horror show isn't the first thing they

see when they visit the site in the morning.

And everybody is different.

So we have users who are glad for the quick access links and users who turn the politics

toggle off immediately and never fucking look back.

And then there are folks who toggle actively to basically mediate when they are or are

not on the clock, so to speak.

My team and I listened to the community and decided to build this thing, because it give

us and our users more flexibility in managing the site.

It's not a choice between saying...

politics is just like this now.

Get used to it.

Or hey, everybody, politics is a bummer, so we're not talking about it anymore.

Instead we're trying to help people find their own balance, and everybody has a different thing they need there.

Another thing we've done is try to help people remember that there is stuff on the site outside

of the long daily politics discussions.

This graph is an approximation of the share of politics and non-politics,

just by comment count on the site.

And you can see the massive footprint daily politics threads have had on the distribution

of attention on the site.

It's hard to overstate how much you feel that in your community, when suddenly there's this

shift in just sort of what's going around.

These rolling politics threads eat up a lot of attention, which is okay, because we've

heard from a ton of people that they find comfort and reassurance and a kind of antigaslighting

armor in reading them.

It's good to see other people say: Hey, this isn't normal.

It's useful to see detailed roundups of what's going on in a nontoxic place where you know

the conversation isn't going to suddenly get super gross and ugly all the time.

For some people, the internet is the only place they can find that.

Folks who are isolated in their neighborhoods, their families, in conditions where they can't even

safely talk about the shit that's going on, they turn to Metafilter and other sites like

it to have an outlet.

Some human connection.

Some sympathy.

So these kinds of discussions are really important.

They're worth supporting.

But it's easy to get in the habit of going to the big politics threads first and staying

there until you're worn out and that's your time on Metafilter for the day and the week.

And the month.

And all of a sudden you've ended up with this tunnel vision where you're always just looking

at the awful stuff and everything feels awful and you're like...

Wait, didn't I used to like it here?

What happened?

Why is it constantly a downer?

And you reflexively reload the politics thread again.

So we tried to remind people to basically stop and smell the flowers.

You know, go look at the front page of the site instead of just the politics thread.

Find a new post or better yet make a new post about something nice or funny or weird and

let yourself sink into that a bit.

Share that with other people.

Enjoy stuff you like instead of just dutifully inhaling the stuff you feel like you're obliged

to until suddenly you're short of breath.

We've created discussion threads for people to vent in as a raw emotional outlet.

Shit is bad.

Get it out there.

But we've also created threads for people to sit around and kibbitz in.

Do weird no stakes bullshitting about non-awful stuff.

Both these things are important.

Both are useful.

It's not one or the other.

They're both part of self-care and they're ways for folks in a community to reaffirm

a sense of shared space and togetherness.

These are all little things.

None of it is a big fix.

None of it is a panacea.

But little things matter.

Sometimes all we can do is make things better in small increments.

So don't discount little things just because there are big problems.

If it can help, go for it.

Life is made up of little things and small moments.

Communities are built out of those little things.

I talked about this in terms of Metafilter, because MeFi is what I live and breathe.

It's really important and personal to me.

But I'm talking about all of this right now because all of this way of thinking applies everywhere.

There's just about nothing more important than having a sense of somewhere you can belong and relax

and be vulnerable and know that even if things are bad, you're okay right here and right now.

And there's an irony that when things are hard, it's harder to be kind to each other.

Despite that being when it's most valuable and most needed.

So it's important to me that there are online communities where people are making that effort.

It's hard work.

There's a real danger to existing communities that lose sight of that in all the turmoil

that is understandably distracting.

But that's why it's important to look for ways to foster and reinforce that capacity

for kindness and patience and empathy.

And under all of that, you need to take care of yourself, so you're there to take care

of other people.

So yes, fight and push back and accomplish the big picture stuff that you can.

But also recognize that it's not a denial or a dismissal of how not normal things are

to stop and take care of yourself or to encourage others to do the same.

Pace yourself and help others along, while you're at it.

Basically, the prevailing conditions are bad.

You know?

I can't fix that.

You can't fix that.

But you can cut yourself some slack.

Try and be kind.

Keep looking for and doing those little things that help.

And the most important thing we can do right now is help each other take care of each other.

A lot of the time, the internet seems like part of the problem, unfortunately.

But it's hugely important to me to remember that the internet can also be a good thing.

A source of refuge and genuine community strength.

Because when the prevailing conditions are bad, the answer to that is that we grab each

other by the hand and hold tight and just prevail right the fuck back.

Thank you.
