Trump in Korea LIVE: US President demands China and Russia make a CHOICE - it's me or Kim!

President flew into South Korea, the closest he has come to the frontlines of the nuclear standoff with Kim Jong-un's secretive state, on Tuesday saying a solution must be found to the security threat posed by Pyongyang.

Raising fears of the outbreak of all-out World War 3 he said North Korea was "a threat to people of South Korea and people all across the world" and he was prepared to do whatever was necessary to prevent the North Korean dictator from threatening lives.

so needlessly.  He said: "We will together confront North Korea.  "We will be prepared to use the full range of our military capabilities if needs be." Landing at Osan Air Base outside Seoul, the president and First Lady Melania Trump stepped down from Air Force One onto a red carpet as he began a 24-hour visit that could aggravate tensions with.

In recent months, President Trump has criticised South Korea President Moon Jae-in over his support for diplomatic engagement with Pyongyang - something the US President once called appeasement - and has threatened to pull out of a free trade pact between the two countries.

The American leader said the talks would also address trade issues, including South Koreas acquisition of US defence equipment.

He then flew by helicopter to Camp Humphreys, the largest US military base in the country, and met US and South Korean troops, along with President Jae-in.

President Jae-in said he hoped his visit would be a turning point in efforts to defuse tensions over Kims nuclear programme.  The state visit in the South Korean capital was billed as an opportunity for President Trump and Jae-in to present a united front, despite differences over how to confront the depraved regimes nuclear threat, as well as the US leaders complaints over the two countries trade agreements.

Besides vowing to prevent the crackpot dictator from developing nuclear weapons and missiles that can effectively strike the mainland United States, President Trump has also threatened to pull out of a free trade pact between the two countries.

The White House says President Trumps trip is intended to demonstrate US resolve over his hardline approach to the North Korean nuclear and missile threats, but many in the region fear further bellicose presidential rhetoric could increase the potential for a devastating military conflict on the Korean peninsula.

Meeting with military commanders about the North Korea issue, he told reporters: Hopefully that will start working out, and working out so that we create a lot of jobs in the United States which is one of the reasons that Im here.

Ultimately it will all work out, it always works out, it has to work out. He did not elaborate.

President Trump praised president Moon, hailing him for great cooperation, despite their differences.  Pyongyangs recent nuclear and missile tests in defiance of UN resolutions and an exchange of insults between President Trump and Kimhave raised the stakes in the most critical international challenge of the leaders presidency.

The US President was greeted with applause and a few cheers as he and president Moon entered the mess hall at lunch hour.

He is seeking to ratchet up pressure on Pyongyang following his visit to Tokyo, where he declared that Japan would shoot North Korean missiles out of the sky if it bought the U.S.

weaponry needed to do so, suggesting the Japanese government take a stance it has avoided until now. North Korea has not conducted a missile test for 53 days, the longest such lull in testing this year.

And North Korean state media has not commented on President Trumps arrival in the South.

South Koreas spy agency said last week that North Korea may be preparing another missile test, raising speculation that such a launch could be timed for President Trumps trip to the region.

Blue House welcomes U.S. President Trump - Duration: 2:14.

Trump's trip to Korea garnered huge media attention as it is the first state visit to

the nation by an American leader in more than 2 decades.

At the top office a massive welcoming ceremony awaited the VIPs.

For details we turn to our Hwang Hojun Involving plenty of pomp and protocol,...

it was the warmest welcome South Korea can give.

The official welcoming ceremony for the first sitting U.S. President to make a state visit

to South Korea in 25 years was held with all the formalities and conventions of a state

visit, displaying the highest honor and courtesy,... and also featuring both the traditional and

modern sides of South Korea.

U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump entered the Blue House on Tuesday

afternoon, their cavalcade surrounded by traditional ceremonial guards.

A guard of honor and a military band made up of approximately 300 soldiers from South

Korean forces, a group of school children, and the first couple of South Korea greeted

the U.S. President and the First Lady.

And instead of any other ordinary march, the official Presidential Anthem of the U.S.,

"Hail to the Chief," was played in honor of President Trump as the two presidents entered

the Cheong Wa Dae grounds,... and "Mr. President," a song dedicated to President Moon, was played

upon their exit from the field after they inspected the troops as part of the welcoming

ceremony.

President Trump was not shy about expressing how much he was impressed.

The U.S. first couple left a message in the guest book that read,... quote "This is such

a great honor, thank you."

before entering the main building of the Blue House for the bilateral summit,... and even

expressed his gratitude before the meeting commenced.

(ENGLISH) "President Moon, I want to thank you so much

for that beautiful ceremony.

It doesn't get more beautiful than that.

I know the work that was put into it."

The two heads-of-state also enjoyed a promenade through the Blue House garden, and spared

some time to enjoy a cup of tea before their much anticipated joint press conference.

(STAND UP) Considering that President Trump is also the

first head of state to visit South Korea since President Moon's inauguration, and the delicate

time involving the alliance between Seoul and Washington, observers say the welcoming

ceremony was significant to herald a successful summit between the two leaders.

Head of US 'war fleet' en route to North Korea warns 'don't mess with us' - Duration: 2:22.

Head of US 'war fleet' en route to North Korea warns 'don't mess with us'

A US admiral at the head of a massive fleet on its way to the Korean peninsula has warned

that they are ready for everything.

US President Donald Trump is on a collision course with North Korea over its controversial

nuclear weapons policy.

Leader Kim Jong-un has ignored warnings from the US and continued to test ballistic and

even nuclear missiles, threatening the safety of the world.

To combat this, the US has deployed "war fleet" the USS Carl Vinson to waters near

their coast to send a chilling warning to the tubby tyrant.

But Kim previously stated that if a single missile was fired from the Vinson fleet at

his land, then he would sink it with a nuclear missile.

Now, rear admiral John Fuller has warned the tubby tyrant that his fleet is ready for anything

as it heads to the peninsula.

He told DailyMailTV: "He knows the capabilities we have.

"He needs to think very carefully on how he works with us, he needs to understand the

capabilities we have."

Trump is currently in Japan where he is meeting with allies to discuss how to deal with the

Hermit Kingdom.

And rear admiral Fuller has stated that the fleet will be able to support the President

in every way possible.

He added: "We're gonna go prepare our forces and our team to make sure that whatever

missions they call us to do, so this provides perspective, Korea is one possible contingency

plan that the aircraft carrier strike group is supposed to support."

He also said: "We don't have to ask permission to go to some other land to operate our forces,

we have the opportunity to use the seas to maneouvre freely and we have the capability

to project power from the sea as required.

"But it is also a very stabilising thing for our friends and allies that this capability

is there as needed, we have the will power to use it and we have the proficiency to use

it well."

USA vs North Korea: This is the US military arsenal poised to WIPE OUT Kim's threat - Duration: 8:03.

USA vs North Korea: This is the US military arsenal poised to WIPE OUT Kim's threat

The US President has travelled to the region for a 12-day tour and is expected to be high on his agenda for meetings with South Koreas Moon Jae-in, Chinas Xi Jinping, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe and Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Trump vowed to totally destroy North Korea if it poses a threat to the US or its allies in a speech to the UN in September, to which the North Korean leader branded Trump mentally deranged while his foreign minister remarked that Pyongyang could consider a hydrogen bomb test of an unprecedented scale on the Pacific Ocean.

's UN ambassador Nikki Haley and the President himself have said "the time for talk is over", despite China, Russia, and other members of the US administration claiming dialogue remains the main aim.

The US military has a huge presence in the area around North Korea, particularly in Japan and increasingly close allies South Korea.

There are almost 40,000 US troops serving in Japan, more than in any other country, and earlier this year the US Air Force lined up a huge array of helicopters, tactical fighter jets and surveillance aircraft in a show of force aimed to intimidate Kim Jong-un.

Among the aircraft were HH-60 Pave Hawks, a twin-turboshaft helicopter primarily used for the insertion and rescue of special operation personnel.  The aircraft's versatility makes it incredibly useful in other operations too, including civilian rescue and disaster relief.

The F-15 Eagles, America's twin-engine, all-weather tactile fighter jets, are also stationed in the region and are among the most successful modern fighters, with over 100 victories and no losses in aerial combat.

Also headquartered in Japan is the Seventh Fleet, the largest of the US navy's deployed sea forces.

The flagship carrier is the USS Ronald Reagan, a nuclear-powered aircraft supercarrier that forms part of "the most effective and agile fighting force in the world".   .

Also in the fleet are up to 14 destroyers and cruisers at any given time, some armed with ballistic missile interceptors.

A collection of long-range Tomahawk land missiles, which made headlines earlier this year when President Trump fired 59 of them at an airbase in Syria, joins the arsenal.

As if that wasn't enough, there are also 12 nuclear-powered submarines available should war break out.

South of the demilitarised zone (DMZ), the US has 23,468 troops at 83 different sites as well as hundreds of tanks and armoured vehicles, meaning there is always a heavy military presence should North Korea decide to launch a land attack.

There is also the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system, which, despite criticism from Beijing and Pyongyang, is ready and waiting to intercept missiles and destroy the incoming projectiles while in mid-flight.

Guam, the US territory that Kim Jong-un has threatened to fire four ballistic missiles towards, is also host to a huge military presence.  Much of the island is controlled by the armed forces and the Andersen air base hosts a range of bombers, resulting in Guam being dubbed a "permanent aircraft carrier".

Among the aircraft at the base are B-1B bombers, B-52 bombers and F-35B stealth fighters, some of the US Air Force's most impressive jets.

The B-1B bomber is heralded for its survivability and although initially designed to carry nuclear arms, it was converted to carry more conventional weaponry after the Cold War.

The US is believed to have at least six B-1B bombers stationed in Guam and is best suited to a 'medium threat environment', rather than a heavily defended airspace.

Speaking about plans for a possible preemptive strike on North Korea earlier this month, retired Admiral James Stavridis told NBC News: "The B-1b has also been selected because it has the added benefit of not being able to carry nuclear weapons.  "Military planners think that will signal China, Russia, and Pyongyang that the US is not trying to escalate an already bad situation any further. The B-52 was first introduced in 1955 and was originally designed to carry nuclear weapons during the Cold War.

It remains one of the most superior aircraft in the US Air Force.  The long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber is capable of carrying more than 30 tons of weapons.

The aircraft's fearsome appearance and reputation has resulted in the nickname BUFF, which stands for Big Ugly Fat F*****. The US also maintains a smaller presence in other countries in the region, including Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines.

US military aircraft use Thai runways while the US Navy will operate four warships out of Singapore by next year.

Tensions have been stepped across the region over recent days following North Korea firing a test missile over Japan. The provocative action saw South Korea and US forces drop bombs on the border of the hermit state.

Earlier today France warned the situation was extremely serious. Foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian warned a nuclear strike on Europe was possible and said a world war could erupt in months.

He said: The situation is extremely serious. we see North Korea setting itself as an objective to have, tomorrow or the day after, missiles that can transport nuclear weapons. In a few months that will be a reality..

US troops hailed 'Pacific victors' while Trump claims North Korea just 'HAS to work out' - Duration: 4:58.

US troops hailed 'Pacific victors' while Trump claims North Korea just 'HAS to work out'

Just hours before the and his wife Melania arrived in South Korea, the threatened "" over the Republican's "foolish remarks" which he made while in Japan.

Addressing the 8th US Army in Korea – which brandished the motto Pacific Victors! – about the situation with the hermit kingdom, he added: "Ultimately, it will all work out. It always works out.

"It has to work out." Trump's South Korea visit marks the closest he has come to the frontline of the nuclear standoff with North Korea.

The firebrand Republican was joined by South Korea's President Moon Jae-in for lunch alongside US and South Korean troops at Camp Humphreys.

The US base is located near Pyeongtaek, which lies about 60 miles (100 km) from the border with reclusive North Korea.

Trump praised the US' cooperation with South Korea and said he also planned to address trade issues in discussions with President Moon. He said: "There is great cooperation.

We have a terrific meeting scheduled on trade in a little while with President Moon and his representatives.

"And hopefully that will start working out and working out so that we create a lot of jobs in the United States which is one of the reasons that Im here..

His comments come after the US Navy aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan, conducted three days of drills with a Japanese destroyer and two Indian warships in the Sea of Japan.

The exercise involving five ships, which ended Monday, came amid heightened tension in the region over North Koreas ballistic missile and nuclear tests.

Japans Maritime Self Defence Force said: "The exercise helped improve fighting skills and deepened cooperation with India." The 100,000-ton Reagan, which is based in Japan carries around 70 combat aircraft and is the US Navys most powerful warship in Asia.

US officials had earlier confirmed the Reagan will join two other carriers in the Western Pacific, the USS Nimitz and USS Theodore Roosevelt, in a potent reminder to Pyongyang of the US ability to rapidly mobilise military force.

Tweeting before he boarded Air Force One, the US President said: Getting ready to leave for South Korea and meetings with President Moon, a fine gentleman.

We will figure it all out! The White House said Trumps trip will demonstrate his hardline approach to North Korean nuclear and missile threats.

They will also discuss how to maintain the 28,500 US troops stationed in South Korea, which is said to be a costly measure despite tensions with the North.

Speaking ahead of the US President's visit, Van Jackson, a strategy fellow at the Centre for Strategic Studies at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand said more "heated rhetoric" against North Korea is expected.

He said: "Trumps visit is a huge variable. Its a great opportunity to show a unity of purpose against North Korea and reinforce the larger US commitment to Asia, but theres also a risk of provoking North Korea.

"We should brace for more heated rhetoric and some attempt to reassure South Korea. For most Presidents, those tasks would not be mutually exclusive. The problem is Trumps the wild card, not the reassurance guy..

SHOCK North Korea warning: US tells Kim Jong-un 'UNSEEN FORCES' are ready to STRIKE - Duration: 3:14.

SHOCK North Korea warning: US tells Kim Jong-un 'UNSEEN FORCES' are ready to STRIKE

have been ramping up their nuclear threats over the past few months and it has been feared the rogue state could strike during Mr Trump's trip to Asia.

The United States military has deployed defences to the region in case Kim Jong-un attempts to strike while the US President is in the region.

Speaking on , Admiral Robert Natter claimed he would not be "surprised" if the leader of the hermit kingdom decided to launch missiles during Mr Trump's Asia tour.

He said: "Well, history tells us Kim Jong-un is totally unpredictable as was his father and his grandfather. "I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't think it would be very smart."  Mr Natter said the US military was prepared if North Korea launched an offensive.  He said: "I think it is obvious that the US military has moved forces into the area.  "Some of which have been talked about and many quite frankly are going to be unseen if required.   .

"The reality is, no one within the United States leadership that I have spoken with is anxious to go and have to conduct military operations here.

"But we would not be responsible if we were not prepared to do so." President is expected to use his 12-day visit to four key Asian countries to try to develop a united front against Kim Jong-un.  Mr Trump's meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe come as North Korea has been ramping up is testing of nuclear weapons, with its most recent test being the most powerful.

The test took place on September 3 at the Punggye-ri Test Site which registered as a 5.7 magnitude earthquake by the South Korean government.  It was reported that a tunnel collapse in North Korea left 200 workers dead at the Punggye-ri testing facility at some point after the sixth test in September.

North Korea's dictator, has responded to Mr Trump's arrival in Asia with a new threat to the US, claimed the President will receive "merciless punishment." The threat comes after a senior diplomat from Pyongyang warned the United States to take the threat of a possible atmospheric nuclear test over the Pacific Ocean should be taken "literally", leading to World War 3 fears. .

U.S. President Donald Trump to make speech at S. Korea's National Assembly - Duration: 1:36.

Trump's first day is nearing an end now -- enjoying a lavish state banquet and musical performances

for the remainder of the day.

Kim Min-ji takes a look at where his itinerary takes him on his second and final day of his

visit to South Korea.

The highlight of U.S. President Donald Trump's second and final day of his state visit to

South Korea will BE his visit to the National Assembly.

The U.S. leader is scheduled to sit down for a brief talk with parliamentary speaker Chung

Sye-kyun,... as well as the floor leaders of country's ruling and opposition parties.

Trump will be accompanied by top U.S. government officials, including Secretary of State Rex

Tillerson, National Security Advisor H.R McMaster,... and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly

White.

This will then be followed by his much anticipated address.

It's the first speech by a U.S. president in 24 years,... the last being made by former

President Bill Clinton back in 1993.

Trump is known for not going by the script,... but his speech,... expected to last some 20

minutes, will most likely focus on North Korea and its ongoing provocations.

There's also speculation that the U.S. president may touch upon the South Korea-U.S. alliance,...

or pending trade issues.

Some 550 people will be present,... including South Korea's lawmakers,... foreign diplomats

and those invited by the U.S. government.

President Trump will then wrap up his visit to South Korea by paying his respects at Seoul's

National Cemetery,... before embarking on the next leg of his Asia tour... that will

take him to China.

Most of Congress "Likes War" and Opposes Ending US Support for Saudi War in Yemen - Duration: 13:15.

SHARMINI PERIES: It's the Real News Network.

I'm Sharmini Peries coming to you from Baltimore.

In October, Representative Ro Khanna, Democrat from California, Thomas Massie, Republican

from Kentucky, Mark Pocan, Democrat from Wisconsin and Walter Jones, Republican from North Carolina

introduced a bipartisan resolution to stop the U.S. military assistance to Saudi Arabia

in its war against the Houthis in Yemen.

This bill has the support of 34 other lawmakers who are willing to invoke the War Powers Act,

where Congress can swiftly terminate the U.S. military assistance for Saudi Arabia's war

in Yemen.

But some congressional representatives on both sides of the House are reluctant to do

so and to end the war that the UN says is the worst humanitarian disaster of the 21st

century.

The UN is expressing concern at the Saudi led coalition's closing of two airports, seaports,

and land crossings in Yemen, warning that this may hamper the delivery of vitally needed

humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people where 14.5 million are cut off from access to clean

water and sanitation.

There are some 200,000 people suffering from cholera outbreak and over 1,300 of them have

already died where a quarter of them were children.

Who in Congress might be objecting to stopping this war and why?

Let's find out from Colonel Larry Wilkerson.

Larry is a retired U.S. colonel and former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin

Powell, now a distinguished professor at the College of William and Mary.

Larry, good to have you with us.

LARRY WILKERSON Good to be with you, Sharmini.

SHARMINI PERIES: Larry, you've been on the Hill working on this effort.

Why don't you tell us about the debates that's going on and the debate that's not going on.

From what I understand, the bill will pass on but no debate will be taking place in the

House, but mostly who is reluctant to pass this bill?

LARRY WILKERSON: I think probably Democrats and Republicans alike, so caught up in the

war machine that this country has become, are guilty, guilty as charged.

What you have with Walt Jones from North Carolina is a pariah Republican from the very start.

What you have with Ro Khanna, and with Mark Pocan and with Tom Massie from Kentucky, Republicans

and Democrats, and the co-sponsors are those within the Congress who have the moral courage

and the understanding of U.S. history and the U.S. Constitution sufficient to apply

it to what is U.S. Code Title 50, Chapter 33, sections 1541 to 48, as I recall, which

codifies the War Powers Resolution.

Now,a little history there, that's the resolution Congress passed to reassert its constitutional

powers over the war power when it grew very, very tired of the Vietnam conflict, and Richard

Nixon, in particular, conduct of that conflict towards the end of it.

They essentially told the president, "You've got to do this in order to wage war," abbreviating

the Constitution, Article one, Section eight, a bit but nonetheless reaffirming it mostly.

Nixon vetoed it, and then the Congress, very unusually, passed the legislation over Nixon's

veto.

Now they are up to the point where you can only find these iconoclastic members, these

pariah members, these members who understand the Constitution, who understand our history

and more than anything understand how dangerous is the war power to the very liberties of

this republic.

That's all you have left in the Congress who would, as you pointed out in your introduction,

bring the United States' action to support Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates

in waging this brutal, bloody war, which incidentally the Saudis and the UAE are losing.

They're losing it.

They don't, they're the only ones who want to do this and so this legislation is being

fought by hook and crook by everyone from Mark Thornberry, the Chairman of the House

Armed Services Committee who loves to have Raytheon and Lockheed Martin making lots of

money off the weapons we're selling to Saudi Arabia, to Ed Royce, the Chairman of the House

Foreign Affairs Committee who ultimately has committee jurisdiction over the bill.

They all want to stop it, because very frankly, Sharmini, they like war.

SHARMINI PERIES: They like war.

When the United Nations is putting out such warnings about the conditions of so many,

14.5 million people who are suffering from this war, the devastation is staring them

in the face, there's so many children affected by this, what are their main motivations for

not wanting to support this bill?

LARRY WILKERSON They say, in the legislation that we could cite that Steny Hoyer and others

have written as an alternative to our legislation, which is called House Continuing Resolution

81, invoking the War Powers and which should enjoy privileged status under the law and

therefore have to go to the House for a vote and not be stoppable by a committee chairman.

What they're doing is offering 599, which if you read all the whereases, and boy does

it go ad nauseam into the whereases, "Whereas this, whereas this, whereas this," if you

read it closely, what you see is, they're trying to excuse the Saudis for what they're

doing.

They know darn well that all those whereases in that other legislation, which recognize

the nature of the humanitarian disaster, recognize the nature of the UN recognition of the government

supposedly the Saudis are trying to defend, recognize the fact that Iran is participating

and so forth.

Of course, they don't point out that Iran wasn't even in Yemen until the Saudis attacked,

that Iran wasn't doing anything until the Saudis attacked.

All of this legislation that Hoyer and others have put together, and Hoyer by the way, is

a Democrat, of course, from Maryland, is just a subterfuge, an obfuscation of the true issue,

which is, the Saudis are fighting a brutal, bloody war.

They're killing lots of people.

By the indirection of their actions, they're killing potentially half a billion people

over time.

The greatest humanitarian tragedy since World War II.

They're bombing sewage and water plants.

They're bombing food sources and so forth, and all this to support a government that

I think the UN would probably like to retract its vote on in terms of being the legitimate

government of Yemen.

It is, a piece of this 599 is a piece of legislation that shows just how many ends these folks

will go to in order to justify what is truly a brutal war in which the United States is

participating.

On top of that, the U.S. participation is causing Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula,

one of the most dangerous terrorist groups with a global capability, to grow, to actually

harden and grow in its membership and in its actions.

At the same time, we're trying to stop that group under a legitimate AUMF, the one passed

after 9/11, in Yemen with Special Operating Forces.

We want to separate those two actions.

The Special Operating Forces going after Al-Qaeda in Yemen are operating under the original

Authorization for the Use of Military Force and therefore are legitimate.

This support to the Saudi-UAE effort to wage this war in Yemen, though, is not legitimate.

It's illegal.

It was started by the Obama administration and continued and emphasized by the Trump

administration.

It's illegal.

It's brutal.

It's being lost by Saudi Arabia.

You saw the architect of the war, Mohammad Bin Salman effecting something we haven't

seen since the formation of the House of Saud, recently, the last few days.

He actually got rid of 11 princes.

He's getting rid of a lot of business leaders and so forth.

I think this is a sign of the instability of the Saud regime under MBS's leadership,

and it's going to be interesting to see how this develops, because this is his war.

He started it.

There's no defense.

It's a brutal, bloody war, as I pointed out.

It's a major humanitarian disaster, and the United States has no business participating

in it.

It's that clear.

It's that simple.

SHARMINI PERIES: Right.

Larry, give us a sense of what they're telling you when you're on the Hill about this unconditional

support for Saudi Arabia's war.

LARRY WILKERSON: You'd be amazed, Sharmini.

I have gotten answers from staffers and members that range the gamut from, "Well, this is

just a niche issue."

That's a direct quote.

"This is just a niche issue."

My response, of course, was, "500,000 people dying is a niche issue?"

Well, not a lot, and get them a little off guard with that kind of response, to a response

such as this, "Well, I always go with my committee chairman."

That is, the committee of jurisdiction.

"So, if Ed Royce is going to go against this, I've got to go against it, too."

This is the war power.

This is your nation using bombs, bullets and bayonets to kill the citizens of other nations

and, oh, by the way, put its own men and women in harm's way too.

This is the war power.

This is the ultimate power, and you bow to your committee of jurisdiction?

Come on, Mr. Congressman.

You can do better than that.

To an answer like this one that I got, "Well, Iran's there."

My response, "Iran wasn't there until the Saudi-UAE coalition attacked and we supported

them."

"Well, Iran is there now, so we've got to fight them.

The Saudis are doing our dirty business for us."

Why do we have to fight Iran in Yemen?

What is it that Iran is doing in Yemen that's destabilizing, and destabilizing in a way

that threatens U.S. national security interest?

"Well, Iran always does that."

Are you kidding me, Congressman?

Can't you think more critically than that?

Can't you think more analytically than that?

Iran is not always going against U.S. interest.

Iran, in this case, is going against U.S. interest, if they are, because we are supporting

the Saudi coalition that's waging this brutal war.

You just wouldn't believe it, Sharmini.

The first reaction I have is that they don't know what they're talking about.

The second reaction I have is that they're venal, they're cruel, they're brutal.

The third reaction I have is, they're ignorant, they're just not willing to look at the issues.

And the fourth reaction I have is that they're in obeisance to the military-industrial complex,

which, if you'll look at the contribution charts, does, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Boeing

and so forth does contribute a heck of a lot of money to these people's campaigns.

And so with a little war like this, what's a little war as long as it maintains me in

power?

SHARMINI PERIES: Only the lives of hundreds of thousands of children.

LARRY WILKERSON: Yes.

Yes, and just, I mean, when you've got a situation where, for example, you bomb cranes at the

only port where you really can offload the food and clean water to save people's lives

and you, the United States, recognizing these cranes have been bombed and that the water

and the food can't be off-lifted until the cranes are replaced then provide the cranes

out of the goodness of your heart, I hope to replace them, only to have the cranes not

able to be off-loaded and reinstalled because of Saudi-UAE bombing.

Bombing which you're supporting with refueling tankers, with targeting intelligence and so

forth.

This is not just nonsense, though.

It's brutal.

Brutal nonsense.

SHARMINI PERIES: Larry, thank you for your relentless work on the Hill and I wish you

more success.

Thank you.

LARRY WILKERSON: Thank you, Sharmini.

SHARMINI PERIES: And thank you for joining us here on The Real News Network.

Head of US 'war fleet' en route to North Korea warns 'don't mess with us' - DAILY NEWS - Duration: 2:34.

"But it is also a very stabilising thing for our friends and allies that this capability

is there as needed, we have the will power to use it and we have the proficiency to use

it well."

WHY IRAN CANNOT SINK A US SUPER CARRIER ? TOP 5 FACTS - Duration: 7:56.

Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi downplayed

Washington's military buildup in the Persian Gulf, and had said the IRGC speedboats have

the needed capability to sink the US aircraft carriers.

Fadavi had said in a meeting with a delegation of Oman's National Defense College in Tehran:

"The US is not in such conditions that it can threaten us in action, yet it continues

making verbal threats,"

Lieutenant Commander of the IRGC Navy General Alireza Tangsiri said:

Iran has armed IRGC Navy's speed boats with long-range 'Qader' cruise missiles which

can destroy maritime targets including frigates and warships.

In the Noble Prophet 9 exercises conducted in the Straits of Hormuz, Iran constructed

a mock aircraft carrier and proceeded to attack it.

The attack was carried out with anti ship missiles, mines and a simulated commando raid,

which involved troops landing on the flight deck via helicopter and attacking the carrier's

superstructure.

But a test scenario is different from real life war.

In this video, Defense Updates analyzes WHY IRAN CANNOT SINK A US SUPER CARRIER ?

Iran's naval power has even been acknowledged by foes.

In a Sep. 11, 2008 report, the Washington Institute for the Near East Policy said that

in the two decades since the Iraqi imposed war on Iran, the IRGC has excelled in naval

capabilities and is able to wage unique asymmetric warfare against larger naval forces.

According to the report, the IRGC Navy has been transformed into a highly motivated,

well-equipped, and well-financed force and is effectively in control of the world's

oil lifeline, the Strait of Hormuz.

The Nimitz-class super carriers are a class of 10 nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in

service with the United States Navy, apart from that US has recently commissioned the

USS Gerald Ford.

All these have displacement of around 100000 tons, and overall length of 332.8 m (1,092feet).

To give viewers a perspective, it is about 3 football fields long.

These are nuclear powered , have practically unlimited endurance and have been used to

project power far off from US mainland.

While the threat that small boats pose to major warships has been apparent for some

time, the Pentagon's Millennium Challenge 2002 exercise brought the issue to mainstream

attention.

In that controversial exercise, small fast boats carrying suicide payloads inflicted

heavy damage on U.S. naval forces.

US Navy has updated its strategy to counter these kinds of attacks.

Most small boats lack the range to find and successfully attack aircraft carriers in the

open sea.

Any boats that did find a carrier battle group would need to navigate a formation of well-armed

helicopters and escort warships, most of which would boast actual Phalanx gun systems that

could chew small vessels to pieces.

The Qader supersonic missile developed by Iran has a range of about 185 miles or 300

km, is self-guided, and can maneuver to lock onto a moving target.

The missile is cheap, easy to launch and can be deployed in "swarms."

Together with decoys and chaff.

Theoretically it is formidable challenge for defending naval vessels but in practice , things

are different.

Here are the technical problems of using this missile :

1.

185 miles or 300 km means that anything in the Persian Gulf is within easy range of the

missile.

But outside the Persian Gulf, in the Gulf of Oman, the US Navy can romp with ease, beyond

the range of the Iranian threat, but well within the operational range of the US carriers.

The launch platforms of these missile could be neutralized from far off.

2.

Inside the Persian Gulf also, there is a problem.

The missile's maneuverability is limited because the steering fins are small, to avoid

drag during supersonic flight.

Therefore, the missile can make steering corrections of perhaps 1/2 mile in the last few miles

of approach.

This probably explains why all tests so far, have been with static targets.

US carrier on the other hand will perform evasive maneuvers.

Though massive , US aircraft carrier can move surprisingly fast with a top speed of more

than 30 knots, or about 35 miles an hour.

3.

The missile has a 200-kilogram warhead.

The warhead could potentially damage a super carrier but won't be able to sink it since

the carrier are designed with compartments and the damaged parts can be sealed off.

It also must me noted that the carriers have kevlar protection on important parts.

It must be noted that the super carriers are not alone but are protected by squadron of

at least two Raleigh Burke-class destroyers and Virginia class attack submarine.

Apart from that, multiple Boeing E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS)

support them.

Arleigh Burke-class warships are designed as multi mission destroyers capable of Anti

Aircraft Warfare (AAW), Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW), Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) and

Anti Surface warfare (ASuW).

Arleigh Burke class destroyers are among the largest destroyers in the world.

These can operate in open sea or coastal waters.

These are equipped especially to protect the super carriers.

These have Tomahawk cruise missile for Land attack, RIM-66M Standard medium range SAM

for air defense and RIM-161 Standard Ballistic missile for AEGIS ballistic missile defense

These also has 2 × Mk 141 Harpoon Missile Launcher for Anti Ship role.

2 × Mark 32 triple torpedo tubes are present for launching Mk-46 or Mk-50 torpedoes

2 MH-60R Seahawk LAMPS III helicopters are also present for Anti Submarine Warfare.

Other than these, they are equipped with long-range naval gun and multiple Close In Weapon System.

Virginia class is designed to take out enemy surface vessel, submarines as well can strike

ground targets.

It has 12 VLS (Vertical Launch System) & 4 torpedo tubes and is capable of launching

Tactical Tomahawks, Harpoon missile and Mark 48 torpedoes.

Boeing E-3 is designed to provide a holistic view of the battle space and will be able

to detect incoming missiles from long ranges.

The pulse-Doppler radar in it has a range of more than 250 mi (400 km) for low-flying

targets like the Qader missile.

The QADER missile could somehow manage to get past all the sophisticated security and

anti-missile protection on the carrier and get a lucky hit on a vulnerable spot, but

that is highly unlikely.

Even if it happens, the carrier will not sink.

Blue House welcomes U.S. President Trump - Duration: 2:16.

Blue House prepares for U.S. President Trump's state visit - Duration: 2:55.

Also busy preparing for President Trump's visit is the Presidential Office of Cheong

Wa Dae.

We now connect to our Blue House correspondent Hwang Hojun to get the latest from there.

Hojun, so we're hearing the Blue House is all geared up for President Trump's arrival?

That's right, Mark.

This is not only the first sitting U.S. President to make a state visit to South Korea in 25

years,... but also the first head of state to visit to the country since President Moon's

inauguration in May.

That plus the two countries' strong alliance,... and the reasons for all these preparations

become quite clear.

Coming into the Blue House Press Center this morning, I saw the national flags of South

Korea and the U.S. were hoisted up on the streets leading up to the Presidential Office.

Just outside the Chunchu-gwan Press Center, the area is packed with broadcast vans from

various news agencies,... and reporters from both Korea and abroad are setting up camp

here to report on this monumental event.

According to a Cheong Wa Dae official yesterday, the Blue House staff members went through

a thorough dress rehearsal to make sure they are prepared to a tee for the first State

Visit in a quarter of a century.

Hojun, we heard some details from jang-ho,... but tell us more about what we expect once

President Trump arrives at the Blue House?

Well, not much has been disclosed by the Blue House for security reasons.

But, again it's important to note that this is a state visit, meaning it involves more

pomp and protocol.

For instance, the official welcoming ceremony will take place here at the Blue House instead

of at the airport when President Trump arrives.

According to the Blue House spokesperson, the official welcoming ceremony for President

Trump will be held with all the formalities and conventions of a state visit and will

show the highest honor and courtesy.

The Blue House confirmed that a guard of honor and a military band made up of approximately

300 soldiers will greet the U.S. President.

Instead of any other ordinary march, the official Presidential Anthem of the U.S., "Hail to

the Chief", will be played in honor of President Trump, when the two leaders enter the Blue

House,... and "Mr. President," a song dedicated to President Moon, will be played

upon their exit.

The bilateral summit will then take place shortly after, both one-on-one and with an

expanded summit.

Moon will then take a short walk with his U.S. counterpart through the Blue House garden,...

and this will be followed by a joint press conference to announce the results of the

summit.

In the evening, a state banquet will take place, hosted by Korea's first couple, in

honor of the visiting president.

The banquet will include a musical performance featuring both K-pop and Korean traditional

music.

It's going to be a long day for both Presidents Moon and Trump.

We will bring you more updates as events take place during future newscasts throughout the

day.

Back to you, Mark.

Trump calls for a better Korea-U.S. free trade deal - Duration: 2:10.

The two leaders' main agendas during the summit can be largely divided to containing North

Korea and coming up with a different trade deal.

According to our Kim Hyesung the visiting American leader continued to express discontent

over the existing FTA.

Along with the North Korea nuclear issue, bilateral trade tops the agenda of the South

Korea-U.S. summit.

The KORUS Free Trade Agreement, which came into effect in 2012, has been a source of

friction between Seoul and Washington, with U.S. President Trump pressing to either renegotiate

or terminate the bilateral deal, which he has labeled a "job-killer" for the U.S.

In the years since it has been in force, South Korea's trade surplus with the U.S. doubled

from eleven-point-six billion U.S. dollars in 2011 to over 23 billion in 2016.

And at the press conference, Trump reiterated his stance on the deal.

(English) "We are looking at ways of improving our economic

relationship.

I would like to thank President Moon for instructing his trade negotiators to closely work with

us to quickly pursue a much better deal.

a deal that has frankly been quite unsuccessful, and not very good for the U.S.....

."

In response, President Moon Jae-in said Seoul and Washington will work together to come

up with a free, fair, reciprocal trade that benefits both sides.

The two countries' trade representatives, Kim Hyun-joong and Robert Lighthizer held

talks Tuesday, after their first one-on-one meeting in the U.S. last month.

(Korean) "The Moon Administration will negotiate with

the U.S. on high tech strategic weapons, including nuclear-powered submarines and reconnaissance

planes."

While details are yet to be out, many expect amendments of the KORUS FTA to include, for

the U.S., the abolition of tariffs on certain goods, such as automobile, steel and agricultural

products.

As for South Korea, experts are proposing to use this opportunity to amend provisions

related to investment.

Are you watching Kim? Three massive US warships arrive for war drill as Trump visits Korea - Duration: 3:33.

Are you watching Kim? Three massive US warships arrive for war drill as Trump visits Korea

North Koreas dictator Kim Jong-un will be watching closely as the colossal warships steam into the Korean Peninsula – each with a full strike group.

Over the next few days as the US President continues on his way the vessels will arrive accompanied by destroyers and submarines. US Navy bosses have a "mock battle" planned in the region in a massive show of force.

The three aircraft carriers – USS Nimitz, USS Ronald Reagan and USS Theodore Roosevelt – have been operating in the region since last month.

North Korea has threatened the US as Trump continues his tour of Asia – arriving in South Korea from Japan before heading to China tomorrow.

"Nobody knows when and how the war maniac Trump will ignite the wick of war" North Korean official The trio of aircraft carriers operating in the Pacific is something which has not occurred since the 90s.

North Korean officials accused Trump of attempting to trigger a war with the deployment, repots CNN. Referring to the carriers, one said: Nobody knows when and how the war maniac Trump will ignite the wick of war..

All three warships are Nimitz-class supercarriers and weight over 100,000 tons each and are over 1,000ft long. Each is bristling with missile and machine guns and have more than 5,000 sailors, troops and airmen on board.

The carriers are also stocked with up to 90 fighter jets and helicopters in their hangers and on their decks. War fears have loomed in the Korean Peninsula this year as Kim refuses to give up his quest for nuclear ICBMs.

Today, Trump will be meeting with South Korean leader Moon Jae-in as the threat from North Korea is expected to top the agenda in Seoul.

The US President also discussed Kim with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as he meet with him yesterday – claiming they are in "complete agreement" of how to tackle Kim.

Trump will head to China after he concludes his business in Seoul – just 35 miles from the border with North Korea.

Kim is feared to fire another missile in a show of force to the US while Trump is in Asia. North Korea has been eerily quiet over the past month and a half, not firing a missile since September 15.
