GOOD and BAD POINTS OF JAPANESE FASHION AND LOLITA FASHION - Duration: 11:53.

Surprisingly...

people in their 60s and around that age

will react saying "how beautiful and cute you are" and such.

Many people will ask if they can take pictures with me.

Wow sweet, you said that was handmade? - Yes!

Hey guys and girls on Ask Japanese it's Cathy Cat

Today we have come to Brilliant Star Decorations.

Which is an event that combines fashion, music and a lot of interesting things

All the guests here are dressed up to the nines as well so this time

we will ask Japanese people what is hard about wearing Japanese fashion

and what is good about wearing Japanese fashion.

Let's go and Ask Japanese.

What is your current fashion style?

The theme is Poison Garden. This skirt is from Tripple Fortune

I added a parted wig

and matched my hair and makeup with the theme of the Poison Garden.

What's good and bad about your style?

The corset gives me a great body shape.

But in this weather a wig and such is simply so hot.

When you are outside, how do people react?

You mean strangers?

People give me a double take, and kids will just stop and stare.

I think they are quite honest.

Grown ups and people at their late teens,

will look at me a bit surprised.

But surprisingly people in and around their 60s

will react saying "how beautiful and cute you are" and such.

Today I am wearing Lolita fashion.

?

It's very heavy and hot which makes this quite hard to wear.

What do you like about wearing this style?

Well that would be...

I can accessorize how I like and I will look different from others...

I also make my original accessories for it and that is really fun.

The theme I had in my head is a Fallen Angel.

The theme of today's event is poison garden so I thought...

how would my character work in this kind of setting.

I always think of a background story.

I always do that with my style.

And what's hard are these ones. It's really hard to pick up things with them.

You need some skill. And like they said it's very hot.

This is not the best season to wear it.

Could you show it to the camera?

Hard to catch items!

It's hard to pick up things. You need to wedge things between your fingertips.

It's hard to get used to.

What would you call your current style?

I tried to wear Gothic Lolita fashion today... I usually don't wear it...

It's a flowery dress. I feel different from my normal self.

Since the theme is poison garden, the thing I thought of was black

Black and flowers. Cause a garden has flowers right.

So you matched it with the theme.

This is the theme I thought of wearing before coming.

I actually wanted to come with the clothes I normally wear.

The person who is in the show told me to come just like I want to be.

So I just came like this.

What's good and bad about your current clothes?

What I like about it is that it's different from the clothes I normally wear.

I feel like I can become a different person.

But it's a little bit hard to put on.

I usually don't wear it so it was difficult.

I like how open and frilly these sleeves are.

But the sun is strong so I am worried that I will get a suntan with this frill pattern.

What would you call your style?

I tried to match my style with the theme of the show today.

I picked poison things, like snake patterns on my clothes,

I also have strawberries on here. I matched them with snakes so

a poisonous strawberry.

I tried to include harder motifs into my style.

What's good and bad about your style?

?

It's flashy and you really stand out, that's good about it.

But the drawback to it is,

that it's pretty hot now. Can't be helped though.

When you walk around like this in Japan, how do people react?

In Tokyo, people will just look like "seen those people before"

There are many who want to take pictures with me too.

Could you explain to the camera what you are wearing today?

This dress is a full coordinate by the brand Metamorphose.

I thought of the theme of the event and decided to stick with a darker theme.

The theme this time is poison. Poison Garden.

I tried to align my style with that theme.

This flower here that blooms in Japan.

added hydrangeas and fuji flowers which also contain some poison.

That's why I added these things and also kept the Japanese traditional style in mind

That's my coordinate for today.

What's good and kind of hard about your fashion today?

Intimacy and affection...

I looked at people wearing it and felt like I really wanted to wear it too.

That got me into it.

And now that you are wearing it?

It's fun!

Is is sometimes hard?

For better or worse, I stand out.

So that can be quite hard at times.

I admired this fashion and started wearing it.

There was the magazine "Gothic and Lolita Bible"

I used to read it and admire the styles.

I thought "Wow in Harajuku are so many amazing people!"

I wanted to try wearing it too.

So I started wearing it for the last 5 years.

You can express the story you hold in your heart with it.

I think that is the great appeal and charm of this Gothic and Lolita fashion.

On the downside... These clothes use very refined fabrics.

In summer it is really hot.

Battling the heat must be tough for everyone.

Could you tell me your fashion points?

I didn't really think that much about it but...

I must confess I kept looking at your earrings...

Last week was an event called Design Festa.

This earring is one of the items I fell in love with.

Wow sweet, you said that was handmade? - Yes!

A stall owner made these by hand.

What's your fashion point today?

The topic were poisonous flowers so...

So I chose a basket with flowers and a flowery dress.

So it's all about flowers.

This outfit is actually from an existing character but if I wore it like that

it would just be cosplay.

So in order to wear it normally as well too, I arranged and made things.

What did you make? - I sewed this with my sewing machine.

Handmade?

Yes, the corset and the Obitome are things I bought but...

the jacket, shirt and all else I made myself.

Wow that's amazing. Wasn't that hard?

It was super hard and took over a week.

A week? - A lot more than a week.

Wow, why did you want to wear this fashion? What's good about it?

You can show the things you like to the outside world

Those who know the character will realize what I did. This triggers communication.

Which is a new start of making acquaintances.

So new communications - yes.

I always wanted to try and wear military style clothes

So I arranged this in an military style.

And this Gloomy Bear toy has been captured.

What's tough and good about your style today?

Well this style is very close to normal fashion so I can ride the train like this.

But what's hard about it...

You need to be styled for it. You can't just throw it on.

You need to think of your stomach and the way you move.

It has long sleeves because I am not showing my skin but it's very hot now.

Thank you so much!

What's good and bad about Lolita fashion?! Let's compare what's good

and bad about Lolita fashion abroad.

I found abroad you have those beautiful settings, those castles especially in Europe

Where you can take amazing pictures but on the downside

It's a bit harder to wear lolita fashion in public.

People will actually say rude things to you out loud

Which is a shame but hopefully you have a strong community that lifts you up.

That's another of the good points abroad, a strong fashion community.

People can come together and give each other assurance and safety in numbers.

And safety in groups. But in Japan

The good and bad ... The good thing is you can buy it VERY easily

In Tokyo and a big city you can wear it without getting into trouble.

without getting negative comments and stuff

But the bad side is, because you can wear it on your own so easily

I find there is less of a community coming together

So it's good to have events like Brilliant Star Decorations

that bring everyone together and create a community.

And that gets new people inspired.

That was it from Brilliant star decorations.

I hope you enjoyed this video and I catch you soon on Ask Japanese.

27-1022.00 - Fashion Designers - Duration: 1:22.

Do you love clothes, and sketching outfits

from your own imagination?

Fashion designers get the chance

to make their ideas a reality

in this competitive industry.

Fashion designers create designs

for garments and accessories

using pencil and paper or computer-aided design.

They start by making a detailed pattern,

then cut it into fabric or other materials

to construct a sample of their design.

These professionals travel to trade shows,

manufacturers, and fashion shows

to stay on top of changing trends

and find new materials.

From an initial sketch

to the first version of the garment,

the designer can expect long hours,

hectic deadlines, and clients

who are perfectionists.

Fashion designers are almost as likely

to be self-employed as they are

to work for large brands and labels.

They often consult with executives

and a sales team to choose a theme

for their seasonal lineup.

The fortunate—and talented—few,

ultimately win their own label,

catering to individual clients or stores.

Most aspiring designers obtain a college

or trade school education in fashion design.

A portfolio (a collection of designs

and completed projects)

is required to apply for most positions.

Making a name for yourself

as a fashion designer is difficult,

but the thought of fame waiting

at the end of the show, is a great motivator.
