10 Best Places to Live in California.
With 840 miles of coastline and 163,707 total square miles, California offers its residents
a unique way of life.
You can choose to live in one of the largest cities in the world, Los Angeles, or shut
yourself away in a small coastal town in Marin.
You can feast your eyes on the majestic Pacific Ocean, or go water skiing at Lake Tahoe.
But, as is the case everywhere, certain places in the Golden State are regarded as better
than others, and it's not always easy to decide where you might live, once you decide
to relocate.
1: Redondo Beach.
Many people want to live in California to enjoy its beautiful, sandy coastline and the
Pacific Ocean.
If you're one of these people, then Redondo Beach, located in the South Bay of Los Angeles,
is the place for you.
Redondo Beach has two distinct communities, South Redondo and North Redondo.
South Redondo snuggles next to the Pacific Ocean, and has everything you would want from
an ocean town, including a pier, great restaurants and shops.
North Redondo Beach is inland, so the average house price is less as you won't be getting
any ocean front properties, but you'll have less of a commute to work.
Overall, Redondo Beach has excellent weather, a great Performing Arts Center and an exceptional
school system that regularly produces high scores on standardized state tests.
It also has wonderful sport facilities, with over a dozen excellent public parks, that
provide running tracks, tennis and racquetball courts.
2: Orange.
This city makes the list because of its low unemployment and crime rates, great weather
and wonderful facilities.
Orange is a little over 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles, with a population less than
150,000.
The city has consistently been ranked as one of the safest places to live in California,
so it's a great place to raise a family.
It offers a wide selection of parks, lakes and nature centers, including a wildlife sanctuary.
In the center of the city is Plaza Park and the Old Towne Orange Historic District, which
serves as the home to cafes, shops and antique stores.
This historic district has so many buildings of architectural interest that it merited
the attention of the State Historic Resource Surveys.
The city also serves as the location for many films, and television series, which means
you might even get to see your favorite star while picking up your dry cleaning.
3: Temecula.
Located between Los Angeles and San Diego, Temecula is bordered by gently sloping hills,
and experiences a temperate climate.
The richness of the soil and the mild weather makes for ideal grape growing, and Temecula
prides itself on being in the center of California's South Coast wine region, which spans approximately
3,000 square miles.
The city has excellent public schools, as well as higher education institutions; it
is also considered to be a great place to start or relocate a business, being rated
as one of the least expensive places for entrepreneurial ventures in the state.
The Old Town provides residents and visitors alike with a large number of antique stores,
and restaurants; and has a variety of special yearly events, including car shows and Western
themed fairs.
You'll also be able to get fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and local crafts from
the Farmer's Market that is held every Saturday in the Old Town.
4: Irvine.
It is a bit expensive; and the weather during the summer is hot.
But, if you're looking for a safe place to live and great business opportunities,
you won't do much better than Irvine.
It has one of the lowest crime rates in the area, and is also the location for many international
and national corporate headquarters.
Because of the predominance of businesses in the area, Irvine has been consistently

Irvine also has an outstanding educational system, including public schools and exceptional

Historically, the area has been inhabited for thousands of years, but the modern city

different architectural styles, ranging from California Modern, Spanish, to Contemporary/Moroccan.
5: Mill Valley.
Nestled among the Redwoods, Mill Valley is one of the most beautiful places to live in
California.
Located 11 miles to the north of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco, the city sits
on the southeastern slopes of Mount Tamalpais, and is encompassed by hundreds of acres of
regional, state and national parks.

7: Saratoga.
This city is regarded as one of the most educated places in the country by Forbes magazine;
and given many of its residents work in Silicon Valley, this is perhaps not that surprising.
Located in Santa Clara County and just west of San Jose, Saratoga has a population hovering
around 30,000.
The average household income exceeds $230,000, making it one of the most prosperous places
to live in the country.
The city has wonderful amenities that include several outstanding, local wineries.
Most of the businesses are privately owned, which helps to create a friendly, small town
atmosphere.

8: Yorba Linda.

It has a 219 acres golf course, owned by the city, which is regarded as one of the finest
in the nation.
Whilst playing a few rounds, you are likely to get stunning views of the Newport Beach
Coast as well as Catalina Island.
9: Livermore.
You might be surprised to learn that Livermore has the oldest wineries in California.
In fact, the first California wine to win in the French exposition was from the Cresta
Blanca winery in 1884.
But, there's more to Livermore than just its wineries and beautiful vineyards.
There are great, first class golf courses; and top end restaurants, boutiques and shops
that make the historic downtown area a great place to spend the evening.
Crime rates are low, and you will be close to major freeways offering commuters easy
access to Silicon Valley, Oakland and San Francisco.
Its proximity to major interstates also means you can get to some great destinations, like
Yosemite, without too much trouble.
Importantly, house prices, though rising, are still reasonable, especially for the region.
Overall, Livermore is an affordable, pleasant place to live if you want to be in the Bay
Area but cannot afford the exorbitant prices.
10: Coronado.
If you're looking to live in a small, quiet town by the Pacific Ocean, this is the place
for you.
Coronado is just across the Big Bay, making it an ideal residence for those who work in
San Diego.
The coastline is wonderful, with its balmy weather and gentle surf; and Parents Magazine
voted it as one of the best beaches for families in the United States.
There's even whale watching at different times of the year.
The community of residents enjoy exceptional weather, historic landmarks like the Hotel
del Coronado, and a slow paced lifestyle, with a speed limit of 25mph on the island.
There is also a thriving business community, low unemployment and one of the shortest commuting
times on the West Coast.
Coronado is not a cheap place to live; but the quality of the lifestyle it offers makes
it understandable why this is regarded as "The Crown City".
