U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two in connection to failed smuggling
attempts at Arizona's Port of San Luis.
Officers referred a 24-year-old woman for additional questioning as she attempted to
enter the U.S. from Mexico Saturday morning in her Chevy SUV.
A CBP canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect leading officers to discover approximately
113 pounds of meth, worth nearly $338,000; and approximately 5 pounds of heroin, worth
more than $86,000 hidden throughout the vehicle.On Friday evening, officers referred a 55-year-old
man to the vehicle inspection lot.
During the inspection, CBP officers discovered nearly 35 pounds of methamphetamine worth
almost $105,000 with the assistance of another CBP canine.
The drugs were concealed in the vehicles' seats and rear door.Officers seized the drugs
and vehicles and turned those items along with the arrested subjects over to U.S. Immigration
and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
Agents Arrest Body Carriers at Immigration Checkpoint
TUCSON, Ariz.
– Nogales Border Patrol agents arrested three commercial shuttle passengers in the
past seven days for attempting to smuggle dangerous narcotics through the Interstate
19 Immigration Checkpoint.On May 2, agents conducting immigration inspections of shuttle
passengers discovered a 19-year-old Tucson woman with almost $6,000 worth of heroin concealed
near her groin.
Friday, agents arrested a 38-year-old woman from Foley, Alabama, after finding her in
possession of close to $6,000 worth of cocaine.
Yesterday, agents found two packages of heroin, worth close to $10,000, hidden on a 14-year-old
boy from Nogales, Arizona.
All three subjects, identified as United States citizens, were arrested and charged with narcotics
smuggling.
The cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security
Investigations.CALEXICO, Calif.
– Border Patrol agents arrested a convicted sex offender near downtown Calexico suspected
of making an illegal entry into the United States on Friday.United States illegally.
Around 11 pm, agents observed the man jump over the international border fence and was
arrested shortly after.
The mas was transported to El Centro Station for identification and processing.
Record checks identified the man as Clemente Zazueta Lizarraga, a 37-year-old Mexican national.
Agents learned Zazueta had been previously arrested for Mischievous/Lewd or Lascivious
Acts with a Minor and a count of second-degree burglary in Merced County in Nov. 2005.
Ultimately, Zazueta was convicted and received 12 months in jail and 36 months probation.
Zazueta was processed for Re-Entry After Removal.
"On a daily basis, our agents continue to arrest and remove threats like this from our
communities," said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim.
In fiscal year 2018, El Centro Sector has arrested 15 sex offenders.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department
of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders
at and between the official ports of entry.
CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while
enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
