okay so for today's video as you can see by the title and everything I'm
recreating this look from Janelle Monáe's Dirty Computer album and I'm so
excited I was able to do this I got these makeup geek power pigments just in
time to film this look and I hope you enjoy today's tutorial it's not as hard
as you might think it is I use two brushes to do all of the shadow and
anyway I hope you enjoy today's tutorial I am trying to stay very still because
since I'm closer to the camera it's easier for me to go out of focus with
the aperture and everything and as you can see I've already got one eye done so
I'm going to start on my right eye I'm first taking the color butter cupcake
from sugarpill and I'm using this Sigma E36 brush it's a small fluffy brush
I'm going to be using only two brushes for the entire look before I forget I'm
gonna first put some eyeshadow primer on
getting it underneath as well okay now for the yellow shadow I'm running this
right above my crease
and since all the colors are very smoked out that's why
I'm using a fluffy brush
I'm also bringing the yellow right up almost into my brow
next I'm taking dynamic from makeup geek these are the new power
pigments since I've played around with them a little bit they're okay but
they're not as pigmented as sugarpill shadows Jkissa did a really good
comprehensive video on all the power pigments if you want to look at that so
I'm taking the orange on the same brush and tossing this on that inner third of my eyelid
and sweeping it up into the yellow this orange is gonna go pretty
high up into the crease too and all the way into the inner corner
going back in with a little bit of yellow I'm taking the color love+ from sugarpill
which is a bright red and putting this almost like on the inner bridge of my
nose right here
when I look at the photos the red isn't like the super
accent and reads my orange okay now I'm cleaning the brush off on the back of my
hand and next I'm taking the color transform from makeup geek another one
of the power pigments I don't know why they made these square pans it's really
frustrating since all the other shadows are circles this color I am placing on
the outer third and as you can see on this eye I'm intentionally leaving the inner
part blank
and this green will blend into the yellow
and I'm winging it out slightly
bringing it into the crease a little bit just enough so it blends in
with the yellow but not all the way into the orange I think this green shadow of
the power pigments is one of my favorite of the line
cleaning my brush off again
and going in with a little bit more yellow
so on top of that green I'm going to mix in a little bit of the color tenacious
just kind of near the lash line
It will just cool down this green a little bit
on top of that I'm mixing a little bit of the color indestructible which is this kind of
almost like a purple cobalt blue to like deepen up the outer corner a little bit
that is a top lid pretty much done next I'm taking this Milani liner in the
color 05 keep on sapphire and just running this on the outer half of my
lower lash line and this will act as a base for the blue
I'm connecting it to the wing too
next I'm taking the color gonzo from the Urban Decay electric
palette on the Sigma E20 and packing this over the blue
so it makes it really pop and
then over that mixing chaos from the Urban Decay electric palette
then I'm cleaning off my brush on the inner part of my lower lash line I'm putting the
color dedicated from the power pigments
it's like a purpley red I'm now a tight lining with this black liner from Milani
to finish off the eye I'm going in with some mascara and we got this flower
beauty mascara from octoly it's pretty decent and hopefully soon I will film a
dedicated mascara video but since Janelle released her dirty computer
album I had to do this first this mascara is really spiky it's like the
plastic-y bristles and it does a really good job of separating lashes I'm
going to go in with another coat of the black liner and my lower lashline
I always do this when I try it line it so I can get it very intense
okay so I've reframed so you can see the whole face before I start my base I want
to mention two other things we got from octoly both are from first aid beauty we
got this tinted moisturizer and this coconut micellar makeup melter natasha
has used this a few times and she says it's
pretty decent it removes makeup well and I actually used their there really I'm
forgetting the name of it but I use their really popular cleanser every
day and I do really enjoy it but their shade range for complexion stuff is not
the best so skincare is pretty good complexion needs some help
for my base I'm gonna go ahead and use some NARS sheer glow Janelle definitely
has full coverage foundation on in that video but it's like will freakin hot in
New York right now so I can't do like super full coverage oh and I also remove
the fallout on my face with some micellar water I'm not sure if I
mentioned this before but I've been putting foundation kind of on my cheeks
and jaw and chin more and then using what's left over on my brush on my nose
so it's not as thick before I forget I'm gonna do my brows need to sharpen this brush my brows up
I always like how soft Janelle's brows look I'm like calling her Janelle like
it we're friends wish we were but we are not
put some brow gel on
all right now for the rest of my base I'm gonna go ahead and put some concealer
on using the NARS radiant creamy concealer I should have put together
some like Q&A thing about like why Janelle Monae is one of my favorite
artists but Natasha and I have somewhere to go after this and I am trying my best
to get this makeup tutorial done I think my favorite Janelle Monae song is cold war
I was so sad because when she was on her Electric Lady tour I was in England
studying abroad and she was playing at one theatre in London forgetting the
name of it and I wasn't able to get tickets and plan that trip out and I've
been waiting ever since for her to come out with more music because I really
really really want her to see her in concert and I did get tickets to see her
in New York I'm very excited next I'm going to set my concealer I love how in
the dirty computer visual album she did so many different like colourful looks
and all the makeup is amazing her makeup artist is so good next I'm gonna put
some bronzer on
for highlighter I'm going in with this one from Mally
I wasn't gonna put any blush on but it does look like she has a little
bit of blush on so I'm gonna put some of mellow wine from wet n' wild on I'm
using this Charlotte Tilbury brush
I'm like bringing it back to to really blend
in with my contour so I found this thing on tumblr that perfectly kind of sums up
one of the many reasons why Janelle Monae is so awesome and such a amazing artist
I'm gonna read it I'll also put it up on screen it says Janelle Monae treading
seamlessly between androgyny/gender non conformity and bold displays of
femininity showcases how many bi/pan women fluctuate between different gender
presentations as a result of how their multiple-gender attraction disrupts and
complicates their conceptualizations of gender her celebration of proudly
portraying herself with masculine or feminine aesthetics is a quintessential
highlight of the bisexual community's approach to gender and in particular is
a hallmark of bisexual music and artistry in this essay I will it's like
it's so accurate and like so perfect and Janelle Monae is amazing okay now I'm going
to finish the makeup look and do my lips I feel like I just mumbled through all
that and no one could understand what I was saying I'm gonna line my lips with this
red liner from bareMinerals in the color statement 100% I guess that's the color
it's just a red liner
to fill in the rest of my lips I'm going in with one of my favorite lipsticks
which is Frenchie from colourpop I actually wore this to graduation when I
graduated from college which happened like two days ago three years ago
which is wild but I still love this red lipstick
okay and this is the finished look wait not quite finished yet I have a jacket I
almost fucked up my hair okay here we go now I'm like almost as cool as
Janelle Monae I'll never be as cool as here now this is the finished look I
hope you enjoyed today's tutorial I had a lot of fun obviously recreating it I'm
so happy that I was able to finally do a Janelle Monae look because I clearly
love her and yeah I am thinking about doing another one of her looks from her
dirty computer album so maybe stay tuned for that and hopefully look at that
mascara video out soon
