- On today's episode, we're talking all about

how to build a personal brand from scratch.

Let's get to it.

(upbeat rock music)

Hey there, Adam Erhart here.

Modern Marketing Strategist

and welcome to the Modern Marketing show

where we help you make marketing that matters.

So if you're interested in the latest

and greatest marketing strategies, tools, tips,

tricks and tactics to really help grow your business,

you may wanna consider subscribing.

So today we're talking about one of my most favorite

and probably one of the most important topics we can cover

which is how to build a personal brand.

This is because a personal brand

is one of the most important and valuable

and leverageable assets you could ever create.

Yes, direct marketing is important.

Yes, proper sales is important.

Yes, using great, direct response, tactics

and all the strategies and social media tools out there,

all important.

But a brand, well, a brand is what enables you

to last the test of time.

It's what enables you to charge premium prices.

It's what enables you to build an important

and powerful relationship with your audience

and it's what allows you to do what you truly wanna do

and make the impact you know you're capable of making.

So with all that said, here are five steps

to build your personal brand

even if you're just getting started.

Step number one is to assess.

What this means is taking a step back

and looking at yourself and your business and your brand

objectively and kind of from a 30,000 foot overview.

The odds are good that you probably already have

some kind of brand or some kind of style

that you maybe just haven't fully articulated.

After all, take a look through your closet,

does it all just kinda follow a similar style?

Or take a look at how you talk.

Do you tend to use the same words or phrases over and over?

Or ask some friends and family members

about how they would describe you

and what words you often use in conversation.

You see, when you take a look at your wardrobe

and your style and your patterns of speech

and your behaviors and your attitudes,

well, all of that contributes to your personal brand.

And the odds are good, it's already somewhat formed.

Sure, you may wanna make tweaks.

And you may want to adjust and change it in the future.

But taking stock of where you're at right now

is really important to kinda build that foundation

and make sure that what you build on

is authentic and is sustainable.

'Cause the last thing you wanna do

is build a personal brand around something

that just totally doesn't resonate with you.

The final tip in the assess phase

is to write down your strengths

and what makes you unique or different from other people.

You see, when building a personal brand,

the last thing we wanna do is try

and bring up our weaknesses.

Rather, we wanna take our strengths

and what makes us different and then amplify those.

Your goal with personal branding

should become about 110% of what you already are.

So take what you are and then amplify it.

Step number two in building a personal brand is to model.

Now the key here is to research and dig in

into what others that you wanna emulate

or others that you look up to

and see what they're doing and then find the things

that resonate with you and work with your brand.

So maybe make a list of some influencers

or some celebrities or even some role models in your life

and find the areas of them that you like

or that you wanna emulate.

Now the key here is we don't wanna copy them

because they're unique and they're their own person.

Rather, what we wanna do is find the points

that we admire or the parts that we aspire to

and start incorporating

some of those elements into our brand.

Again, do not copy here.

What you wanna do is use them as inspiration

to draw from, that's it.

Anytime someone copies someone else's brand

verbatim or takes in what they're doing,

well, they just come off as a knock-off

or a second rate version of that person

rather than their true unique self.

So don't do that.

The next step in building a personal brand

is to follow the rule of one.

And what this means is one theme, one offer and one channel.

So when we're talking about theme,

what we're talking about is what are you known for?

So if you're just starting a personal brand,

it's gonna be tough to be known for food

and fashion and health and maybe business.

Rather you wanna pick just one,

so as an example, what I'm known for is marketing.

Sure I've got other interests, but what I'm known for

and what my personal brand is all about is marketing.

Next, let's move on to the one offer.

You see, the odds are good if you're creating

a personal brand, it's to probably try to promote

or sell something at some point in the future.

And my advice here is to stick

with one clear and compelling offer.

So make it really clear what you do,

who you do it for and how they can buy from you.

Don't confuse and don't overwhelm

by going with too many different themes

and too many different offers.

You're just gonna lose people.

Because when you become for everyone,

you really become for no one.

And lastly, one channel.

And what this means is really doubling down

on one social media channel and mastering that

before moving on to other areas.

The last thing you wanna do when it comes to social media

is sporadically post on about a dozen different channels.

Rather you wanna find where your strengths are

and where you're unique and uniquely position

to deliver your message and then really double down there.

Once you've got that nailed.

Of course you can start leveraging other channels.

But start with one.

The next step in building your personal brand

is to publish.

You see, when it comes to building a personal brand,

people are going to need to understand what you stand for.

And the best way to do this

is to publish valuable content.

Just like I mentioned in the last step,

you wanna stick with your one theme

and your one offer and your one channel.

So really double down there

and create content specific for that.

If you can create daily content, that's fantastic.

But weekly content should be okay to get you started.

Just don't let it go too much further than that.

Creating monthly content is not a great way

to build a personal brand and certainly not quickly.

So focus on creating content that best resonates

and best communicates your message

and it'll really help to secure

and to build that foundation for your brand.

And the last and final step is consistency.

When it comes to building a personal brand,

everything matters.

What you wear, what you say and what you do,

all of this contributes to forming

your overall personal brand.

So you need to be consistent.

You need to be clear and you need to maintain it

across all of your different touchpoints.

If you don't do this, well,

anytime someone comes across your content,

they'll have to sort of relearn about what you're about

or they'll try and figure out who is this?

Is this the person that I saw before?

Or why doesn't this line up?

And they'll basically lose all of that previous

brand recognition that you've worked so hard to build.

Not only that, when you're clear and when you're consistent

across all of your branding,

well, people will start to learn what to expect

and you'll either attract or repel different parts

of your audience which is exactly what you want.

So be clear and be consistent all the time.

Because again, everything matters.

So those are my five best tips

on how to build a personal brand from scratch.

that you think might be beneficial?

Building a Trapizoid Door voiceover - Duration: 5:14.

as with most projects I start out rough cutting the boards to size and milling

them to thickness

I use my shop made tapering jig to cut the top and bottom rails to start the

trapezoid shape for the glass accents

Once I had the angle figured out I cut the middle rails to fit

I use the Domino XL with largest domino available for the joint

I lost some footage of routing out the glass panels. Basically I use a rabbeting

bit and my router to create a rabbet for the glass to rest in. Then I went back and

chiseled out the round corners to match the trapezoid angle. Then when I install

the glass that will be held in place with the Glass stop tacked in with Brad

nails

the jamb is custom sized to fit the structure of the bookcase I did plan it

out to use a 1 and 3/8 inch standard thickness door so I could use standard

sized hinges and templates. I used a porter-cable hinge template to

route out the mortises for the hinges on the jamb and the door. this jig will work

great to be sure everything lined up. there's a link below to the model I used.

the template kit came with everything I needed including a corner chisel to

square up the corners of the mortises for square hinges

To hold the door on edge so I could work on it

I used a shop made jig comprised of a 2x4 for the base and plywood triangles

screwed to the 2x4 to support the door. It was surprisingly stable

to drill the hole for the doorknob and lastly use the standard hole saw kit

which is pretty much available at just about any hardware store. There's a link

below for the exact template I use to route out the mortise for the strike

plate and door latch.

I glued and nailed in the doorstop with headless pins

When I finished the jam I build it around the door to be sure that reveals are the same on

all sides and finally it's stained with the customer's choice of stain color and

installed into the built-in bookshelf

Schneider Electric: How Microsoft Teams helped create a successful HR marketing campaign - Duration: 2:27.

>> Schneider Electric, at its core,

is Energy Management Company.

We're based in North America,

but we actually do global work.

We work with

particular business units within the company,

who we create Master Assets for the global use,

and those get localized per country,

the diversity inclusion campaign.

The basic concept was that Schneider is already

a very diverse and inclusive place

and we just really need to put a lens on that.

Actually, the studio in Hong Kong

had started a bunch of these materials,

and then things started moving

very quickly once they got the approval.

So, they reached out to us and said,

"Hey we need to put this video together."

We had to identify

everybody who was going to participate,

figure out what we wanted everyone to say,

what the story was going to be, within,

we can have we had delivered this to HR to

go live and Teams was the backbone for the whole thing.

That was the foundation

for all of that pre-production work,

for all of that communication ahead of time for

making sure that we had ever needed,

making sure we knew what

everyone was doing, what everyone was saying.

That level of communication within Teams

provided the foundation for

everything being able to go smoothly.

>> Microsoft Teams is definitely our key tool to keep

that collaboration and those contributions going.

We have a lot of different Teams, Writers Team,

our Directors, Post Production,

Production, Project Management.

Each of these groups, on top of each project,

have their own teams,

and we use those to check in daily.

>> We can share our ideas for work and we can share

our work easily between

individuals or between entire teams.

But, at the same time,

we can have a separate channel where

we're chatting with each other,

or we're making jokes and we're

just sort of breaking the ice,

and sometimes you need a diversion,

you need another way to think,

you need a way to look in another direction for a second,

and Teams is perfectly suited to

allow for both types of thinking at the same time.

>> When you make it so easy for

people to openly communicate,

you inherently get the culture that is more accepting,

that is more inclusive,

that chemistry is so vital to good creative work,

being able to just connect everyone in

more dynamic ways has absolutely

changed the way that we're able to function as a studio.

Honda engineers build a Civic Type R pickup truck, just for fun - Duration: 2:56.

The Honda Civic Type R is already a fairly practical five-door hatchback, but that apparently

wasn't good enough for a group of U.K. Honda engineers who gave a Type R the full El Camino

treatment, turning it into a pickup truck named "Project P."

Up front, Project P looks like a standard Civic Type R. But the roof aft of the front

doors was removed to make way for the pickup bed.

The stock rear spoiler was retained but modified so it could swing out of the way to allow

easier loading and unloading of the bed.

Honda's engineers clearly thought of everything.

The pickup truck uses the same engine, transmission, and suspension as a stock Civic Type R, according

to Honda.

That means a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet

of torque.

Drive is to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

Honda claims Project P will do 0 to 62 mph in under six seconds, and reach a top speed

of over 165 mph.

The Type R El Camino also retains the stock drive modes of Comfort, Sport, and +R.

Project P was built by a team of engineers at the Honda of the U.K. Manufacturing factory

in Swindon, England.

The factory builds all Civic hatchbacks sold in Europe and North America, including the

Type R. Don't expect Honda to put a Civic pickup into production though; Project P was

just a fun side project.

"We have a special projects division at the factory in Swindon and this project was

a fantastic opportunity for the team to show just what their creative minds could do,"

Alyn James, Project P team leader, said in a statement.

"The passion that our engineers have for Honda is shown in our latest creation and

we are even considering taking it to the Nürburgring to see if we can take the record for the fastest

front-wheel drive pickup truck!"

In the auto industry, it seems that everything is cooler with a pickup bed.

Engineers at BMW and Nissan have built one-off pickup versions of the M3 and Leaf, respectively,

and Photoshop renderings giving other models the El Camino treatment appear regularly online.

Which car do you think will be next?

Introducing the How To Build a Stand Out Brand Challenge - Duration: 5:04.

(bubbly music)

- Hi, friends, and welcome back to Real Talk with Ally B,

where I share quick tips to help put the real you

into your brand and website.

If you're new around here and you don't know who I am,

hi, I'm Ally.

I'm a brand and web designer for photographers,

and today I'm going to introduce to you,

and give you the lowdown,

on my How to Build a Stand-Out Brand four-day challenge.

This challenge starts next Tuesday, May 29th,

and I am so excited for everybody that signs up.

You don't have too look far to see

that people are tired of seeing the same stuff

presented in the same way.

Really?

In fact, you might only have to look as far as

this month's revenue for your business

to see that clients aren't resonating

with what you're doing online,

if you're even doing anything at all.

And as a photographer and a business owner,

you no doubt want to stand out, both online and locally,

because your business depends on it.

If potential clients aren't seeing your work

and resonating with your brand, they're not booking you.

And if they're not booking you,

you're not hitting the revenue goals

or growing your business the way that you have dreamed of.

I've heard so many photographers say things like,

"At this point, I don't whatever pays the bills."

Or maybe you've even said,

"The market is so saturated with newbies,

and I struggle getting bookings at my current prices,

and they're still way too low."

But the truth is, friends,

tons of photographers are killing it in their businesses

because they've built strong, stand-out brands

that clients and potential clients truly resonate with.

They can charge what they want

and they have the freedom to say yes or no to shoots

based on when they want to or who they want to work with.

If they want to focus on weddings, they focus on weddings.

They don't have to take on family shoots or headshot shoots,

just to pay the bills,

if that's truly not the niche that they want to be in.

If they don't want to shoot in the summer months

because their kiddos are home,

they don't shoot in the summer months, period.

If you know your brand isn't leaving it's mark

and resonating with potential clients like it should be

because you're not getting the number of inquiries you want,

or charging the prices you desire,

then I'm inviting you to sign up for my

How to Build a Stand-Out Brand challenge.

In it, you will identify your brand's authentic voice

so you can communicate clearly to your ideal clients,

and do this differently than your competitors.

You will create a true-to-you inspiration board

that ignores what others are doing in your industry

and what you think people want to see,

and it gets to the heart of who you are

and how you want your brand and business

to connect with your ideal clients.

You're going to pinpoint exactly who your ideal client is

and who you love working with and serving.

So you can niche down in your business correctly

and stop fighting for the same pool of clients

if they're truly not who you want to serve.

And then you're going to specify touchpoints

where you can add more personality

and unique style to your brand

so you can create a connection

that stays at the front of the mind

of your potential clients.

Here's exactly how that's gonna break down.

On day one, we are going to start with the right words.

On day two, we are going to gather visual inspiration.

I'm going to guide you through creating

an inspiration board using the right kind of research,

and then I'm gonna teach you how to pull it all together.

On day three, we're going to define that ideal client.

We're gonna describe in detail who your ideal client is

and make sure that it aligns with the brand

that you previously described.

And on day four, we're gonna get to the fun stuff.

I'm going to teach you where to add

more personality to your brand

to create that instant connection.

You'll receive a checklist of the most essential places

to add personality and branded elements

to your client experience.

You guys, this four-day challenge

starts next Tuesday, May 29th.

And I don't want you to miss out.

I am making this challenge so easy-peasy

because I know how crazy life can get,

and I don't want you bogged down with one more thing.

So here's what the challenge is going to look like for you.

Each day, you'll receive an email

with a video and a worksheet

for you to dig into and do the work.

That's it, nothing else.

You can save these emails

and do it when it fits into your life best.

So friends, let's put our heads down,

let's tune out that noise, and let's start building a brand

that really shows who you are.

Are you ready to build a stand-out brand?

Go to allybdesigns.com/brandchallenge to sign up.

And if you have any friends

that want to take their business to the next level,

hit that share button and spread the love.

The more the merrier.

Thanks for tuning in to this week's Real Talk with Ally B.
