Hello and welcome back to Life's Biggest Questions, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey.
Lu-Kthu is the big mama of the Great Old Ones, acting as a sort of incubator for the eldritch
monstrosities.
But what if this disturbing entity resided not in the pages of fiction, but actually
existed?
Let's explore.
If you want more What If videos, check out our "Biggest What Ifs" playlist on the
channel.
Now get ready, it's time to ask the question: What if Lu Kthu was Real?
Unlike most of the eldritch horrors we've discussed on this channel, Lu-Kthu originates
not in the work of H.P.
Lovecraft, but rather the work of James Ambuehl, an American horror writer who helped to expand
Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.
If the name sounds familiar, you may recognize it since it's basically a mashup of Cthulhu's
name.
While there is much less literature about Lu-Kthu than some other members of the Cthulhu
mythos, the Great Old One was described in some detail in Ambuehl's 1998 short story
entitled Correlated Contents.
In the story, Lu-Kthu is described as the Birth-womb of the Great Old Ones, acting as
a sort of incubator for the powerful and horrific beasts of the Cthulhu Mythos.
It is said to resemble, quote, A titanic, planet-sized mass of entrails and internal
organs.
On closer examination it appears a wet, warty globe, covered with countless ovoid pustules
and spider-webbed with a network of long, narrow tunnels.
Each pustule bears the larva of a Great Old One.
End quote.
This means that while Lu-Kthu doesn't seem to have any powers of its own, it does seem
to give birth to Great Old Ones, who are being incubated in the creature's wart-like pustules.
So if Lu-Kthu was real, the other Great Old Ones would also be real.
And these Great Old Ones often have more power than they know what to do with, which of course,
would have huge consequences.
I've touched on some other Great Old Ones in past videos, like Cthulhu and Ghatanothoa.
If you'd like to know about the consequences of them being real, we'll link them in the
description.
But they aren't the only Great Old Ones out there.
For example, Nyarlathotep, the malign deity seen as a tall, swarthy man, wanders the earth
gathering legions of followers with the use of magical instruments.
If he was real, we might see humanity conquered by this magical pied piper of people.
Or take Shub-Niggurath, the Outer Goddess of fertility, said to spit forth monstrous
creatures that make their way into the world.
If She was real, we might see large numbers of terrifying hellspawn wandering the Earth.
Personally, I picture them like slimier versions of the Outriders from Infinity War.
https://bit.ly/2GeZbwl Of course, if any of these interest you, let us know in the comment
section and maybe we can highlight them in future videos!
But the existence of known Outer Gods isn't the only implication of Lu-Kthu's existence.
Since each of its warts seem to house a new Outer God, it could be that we would see still
further creatures bursting forth.
This would, of course, have an unpredictable effect, since we don't know what the new
Outer Gods would do, but I'll go out on a limb here and say they would not do good
things.
Because Great Old Ones tend to be at best ambivalent, and at worst, murderous, with
few exceptions.
The existence of any one of these entities could spell disaster for the people of Earth,
but with ALL of them actually being real, the Earth could turn into a terrifying battlefield,
with humans being used like pawns or killed out of convenience as the great creatures
battle for control.
It could be that eventually, peace would be made, as the Great Old Ones divvied up the
universe as they deemed fit.
In this case, it's possible that this wouldn't actually change planets unaffected by the
conflict, but since much of the mythos takes place on Earth, it seems likely that the Earth
would be a ravaged wasteland by the time the dust cleared.
Of course, most of these videos take time to discuss how we might go about defeating
the mythical entity.
But in this case, the implications of Lu-Kthu's existence would be so serious that we really
couldn't do much about it.
Even if we somehow managed to stop Lu-Kthu from spawning any new Great Old Ones, we would
still have to deal with the many already in existence, which we likely couldn't manage.
So if Lu-Kthu was, in fact, real, there wouldn't be much we could do aside from crossing our
fingers and hoping for the best.
And now we return to our question: What if Lu-Kthu was Real?
Well… we'd be in big trouble.
Since Lu-Kthu is essentially an incubator for the Great Old Ones, this would mean that
the many great Old Ones we know of, and many that have not yet been born, would also be
real.
This would likely bring about a great conflict between them as they fought for control, a
conflict that would likely wipe out all of humanity.
So let's just hope James Ambuehl made him up, as is probably the case.
Probably.
Thank you for watching Life's Biggest Questions, I hope this was interesting and informative,
and maybe even inspired you to look into it further on your own.

the best of luck, on your quest for answers.
Kthanid is actually GOOD, so maybe a list on him.
